- bornahokie, on 07/23/2008, -6/+3well ... you can't buy any of kid rock's stuff on itunes. so maybe he really is serious ...
- imapluralist, on 07/23/2008, -3/+3Are they Kid Rock's? If they are it's ok... He's a billionaire!
/ - pe5t1lence, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1Well Kid Rock is safe anyway. People who listen to his music don't own computers!
- HaMMeReD, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0It's funny because Microsoft easily has a bigger piracy problem then any musician, and he's like "just steal it", uh we already do?
I'm sorry kid rock but we aren't ***** you, we are ***** the record industry, you can make more doing 1 show then you can producing and distributing a cd with the maybe 5c/dollar you make. If you just distributed your music freely, and charged more for concerts, you'd probably be making more then the riaa pays you.
And when they do sue someone for stealing your music, you ever see a penny?

Thanks Kid!!!- GreyColumbus, on 07/23/2008, -2/+19I don't think anyone listens to his "music".
- hmd1987, on 07/23/2008, -6/+51ohhhh Kid Rock don't flatter your self man, your stuff really isn't even worth stealing.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -8/+2To quote a poster above - Whooooooosh! (moar o's for emphasis!)
By the way, what have you done lately that is worth stealing?- hmd1987, on 07/23/2008, -3/+51. That question is a bit of a fallacy.
It's better to not play music than to play forgettable *****.
2. I pay for my music via itunes.
3. wtf do you mean by whooosh? what poster?
Bands like Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Nine Inch Nails, they all make music that's worth
my time and money. You know, stuff that's not like Limp Bizkit. - Jektal, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3It's better to make -nothing- than something which some people enjoy? Just because it's not your style, doesn't mean it's worthless.
And your list of cool bands reinforces your anti-conformity conformity.
- hmd1987, on 07/23/2008, -3/+51. That question is a bit of a fallacy.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -8/+2To quote a poster above - Whooooooosh! (moar o's for emphasis!)
- Tom10803, on 07/23/2008, -9/+3I like the idea of paying what you want. Some bands give incentives to pay at least a little bit. and then say you pay X amount and one incentive could be that you get the actual cd. Hopefully the future will be like this.
- knut, on 07/23/2008, -5/+15If only his music didn't suck as much at it does I would take him up on his offer.
- gamben0, on 07/23/2008, -6/+8Steal it, cause no one in their right mind is going to pay actual money for your 'music'.
- ToiletGhost, on 07/23/2008, -4/+26If he's so against stealing music how come he stole Werewolves of london and sweet home alabama.
- pe5t1lence, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5Is that him? God I get so excited that Werewolves is on, and then its that crappy song.
- hugolp, on 07/23/2008, -6/+68This guy is stupid. Stealing is different from copying.
If you have an apple and I take it, you dont have an apple anymore.
If you have a song, and I copy it, you still have the song.
PS: dont even mention that every internet download is a cd that is not sold, cause that is a plain lie.- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -9/+1While I agree with your copyright vs theft argument, but by calling him 'stuid' you really missed the point of that whole video, didn't you? I'd quote the 'Whooosh' again, but you just leave me standing here with a perpetual 'Eh?' on my face.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -7/+0Can't believe I mispelled 'stupid'.
Maybe that makes me a jeenyus.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -7/+0Can't believe I mispelled 'stupid'.
- EarthBoundX5, on 07/23/2008, -7/+1he meant from retailers
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -4/+0That makes about as much sense as this guy's argument.
It's still missing the entire point.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -4/+0That makes about as much sense as this guy's argument.
- uallsuck, on 07/23/2008, -10/+4Your argument is stupid. If I'm an apple salesman and you copy my apple then I still have my apple but what I don't have is your money. Don't get me wrong, I can see that the world is a different place now and zero-cost copying of information is just the reality of the situation, but just because it's easy doesn't make it legal or right. Your argument is nothing but semantics that ignores the actual laws that apply in these scenarios.
Of course, ironically, I called this "your argument" when you actually stole (err, "copied") the argument from someone else as blissfully ignorant as yourself.- Brigadier, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6So now growing apples (nature's way of copying) is wrong because someone wants to sell them?
Copying is natural. Selling is a human concept. - hugolp, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1I live in Barcelona and here non-profit copy of culture copyright material is not ilegal. So maybe you should think twice before calling someone ignorant, while showing yourself as one.
I know someone has acomplish that the US people believe that sharing is a bad thing, and that copyright is sacred, but that is just non-sense. Sharing culture is a great thing, and people should not be pushed against it. It allways has been like this. - MagikOvenMit, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4If I take your apple, then you can't sell that apple any more. If I copy your apple, you still have an apple to sell.
- wshs, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3If I steal your apple, not only do you lose out on the sale of that apple, but you also lose out on costs with manufacturing it. If I copy your apple, you still have yours, and I bear the cost of making the copy.
- Brigadier, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6So now growing apples (nature's way of copying) is wrong because someone wants to sell them?
- aadsfasdf, on 07/23/2008, -8/+1Except you don't buy the song, you buy a right to listen to the song. Don't kid yourself, it's stealing.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1People are only complaining about music because it (and other files) are the only thing that can be copied. If we could copy EVERYTHING, then we wouldn't even need an economy, because money would be a thing of the past, just copy everything and give a copy to everyone, since it costs nothing to copy. The only issue here is that few people would bother creating new stuff and improving things, as they already have the stuff they want. However, there will always be people interested in improving things, even if they don't get paid for it, they would at least get credit for their work and they would have fun making new things. Therefore, everything is not doomed, progress continues, and everyone is happy.
As for music, it's still not stealing. It's copying. Just because I download a song for my computer, that doesn't mean that I would've gone out and bought the CD if I couldn't download it. I download it because I can get it free and listen to it to see how I like it, if it's not good then I didn't waste anything on it. If I download a few songs from an artist and I really like them, I might consider buying their CD (Yes, when I buy music, I buy CD's. They have better quality than the stuff you buy on iTunes, you get a physical hard copy of it that is immune to HDD failures and such, and you don't have that idiotic DRM stuff if you rip it to plain old MP3).
Now, where's my real-life Advanced Duplicator gun!
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -9/+1While I agree with your copyright vs theft argument, but by calling him 'stuid' you really missed the point of that whole video, didn't you? I'd quote the 'Whooosh' again, but you just leave me standing here with a perpetual 'Eh?' on my face.
- Rapax, on 07/23/2008, -2/+17We really need to get rid of this idea that downloading digital media is stealing. Stealing involves removing a physical object from its owner, so that the original owner no longer posesses it. You cannot steal something by making a copy of it. If you could make an exact copy of a car, so that afterwards you and the owner have identical cars, and you could do that free of cost...hell yeah it would be ok to copy cars.
- uallsuck, on 07/23/2008, -8/+3Maybe if you keep saying that it will become true. That's unlikely, but maybe along the way you can convince people you're right through your use of repetition and your mastery of copyright law. No, wait, scratch the last one, it's just repetition.
- uallsuck, on 07/23/2008, -8/+1I should have added that if we could all make free copies of cars then we'd all be driving Model Ts.
- trunk8, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2No, then the CIAA would be formed and would start a crusade against the copying of consumer vehicles. Then that pine-scented air freshner you bought would contain a rootkit that would prevent further copying of your vehicle.
***** THE CIAA!- stevelucky, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1ummmm, i think you mean the RIAA. right? or is there another industry association of america that i'm unaware of?
- uallsuck, on 07/23/2008, -8/+3Maybe if you keep saying that it will become true. That's unlikely, but maybe along the way you can convince people you're right through your use of repetition and your mastery of copyright law. No, wait, scratch the last one, it's just repetition.

- pamebruno, on 07/23/2008, -4/+6He is joking obviously.. just a part of his own marketing strategy of beign a "bad boy". And. guess what, marketing sells
- happytedium, on 07/23/2008, -6/+8It's always the artists whose work you don't even pirate because they're so ***** that complain. Funny that.
- Enderpanda, on 07/23/2008, -3/+0Funny that you haven't heard any of the artists that have embracing this ideal for years and using the internet to make themselves heard, very successfully. Or any of the older artists that are gaining new life thru this method. Or the fact that thanks to downloading many older artists are enjoying success that they never had before because they never had big contracts - yet people still want to hear them and download them constantly (mostly cause they're simply not at the record stores).
That's Funny. Like as in 'ha ha'.
/p.s. go listen to a few of the 'poster children' of this that have definitely not sucked with their free efforts - NIN, Radiohead, Jonathan Coulton, and about a million other artists you haven't heard yet...- hmd1987, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2panda you're looking kind of like an idiot.
Radiohead is definitely a great band, but let's not deny the fact that they were on
a major label for years. After their contract expired, Radiohead was/is still one of the biggest
and best bands in the world - this is why their pay-what-you-want model was so successful.
What if only 5 people knew about Radiohead? Okay, so 5 people pay 20 bucks each and that
would leave Radiohead about $40,000 in debt from making the damn record.
Same applies to Nine Inch Nails, Trent was on a major label and that's how Nine Inch Nails got so big. After his contract was fulfilled....he could do whatever he wanted hence a free digital album release.
Bands that you've never heard of can't make a living off of the "pay what you want" method.
..No one's heard of those bands. "Viral marketing" worked out good for Arctic Monkeys....name 20 other bands that it's worked for in the last year.
Kid Rock is simply saying that he's against illegal piracy. He's not saying he's against pay-what-you-want method or this-one's-on-me method....Kid's rock popularity has waned b/c 12 year olds are now 21 year olds and they understand that he's corny. - happytedium, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2What are you talking about? I love Radiohead and NIN. Way to completely misinterpret what I said.
- hmd1987, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1don't worry happytedium, don't waste your time on panda. i'm pretty sure he/she is not too bright.

- kylere, on 07/23/2008, -3/+8Umm Kid Rock is just a redneck racist loser, buddies with the KKK songwriter David Allan Coe. To hell with him, Metallica and that other poster boy of corporate music Prince. Buy independant music, only buy USED CD's, buy swag at concerts to help your fav bands rather than making the RIAA companies richer. Support your local bands and music scene. Reward bands like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead who UNDERSTAND the realities of life.
- gravityzero, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Racist? He's erm kind of on tour with Rev Run, has toured with Ice Cube and Too Short. He may be an asshat, but people who search out BB King to make music with generally aren't racist.

- jussipupu, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2what a douche. there are so many things that fall apart with his analogies that it's just not worth going into.
- palewook, on 07/23/2008, -3/+2CDs are 25 years old. screw the four music giants that won't embrace digital music. CDs are so 1980s not even 1990s. when was the last time you saw someone jogging with a portable CD player?
music industry has nobody but themselves to blame for the mess they are in.- CalcProgrammer1, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I think buying CD's is still better (well, seconded only by downloading for free or paid downloads to independent, non-RIAA-supporting artists) because you get better quality and a hard copy (you can use it in your car, and it is a physical backup in case your MP3 player or hard drive gets corrupted). You can also rip it to any format you want and don't have to suffer through the annoying DRM that most legal download sites use.
As for overall methods, downloading is still most convenient, though most of it is "illegal". If you just want a few songs though, no big deal, just download them.

the internet has spoken. - jstem1994, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4How many songs can one man write about doing drugs, drinking beer, and %^&* his bitches? Kid One Trick Pony knows...
- smacksaw, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1Whenever I listen to the radio (that the music companies pay the stations to play) I am stealing their music. Sure, I am not preventing anyone else from possessing it. But, hey - it's stealing, right Kid?
- Zippo, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5Considering that iTunes is the #1 seller of music in the US - beating out all physical retailers - I'd say that music sales are still booming. Piracy hasn't effected *****.
People who can afford to throw a few bucks at some music will go out and buy it. People who can't afford it are going to pirate. There's no loss in sales because they weren't going to buy the music anyways.
Myself, I listen to a lot of foreign music. Say what you like, I really like Japanese music. Short of forking out $40-50 to import a CD - I'd have no way to listen to it. So, obviously, I find torrents and the like.
Now that I have a full-time job and can afford to import a CD here and there, I've done just that. So, in the end, had I not pirated some Japanese music, I'd have never become interested in the artists enough to buy and import a CD. If piracy wasn't possible, I'd have never discovered 1/10th the music I have.
Therefore, piracy has actually created sales. - 5xSTUN, on 07/23/2008, -3/+3Wow, no-one makes a better corporate spokesman than a guy who cuts a gash in an American flag and wears it like a poncho.
- deathrobot, on 07/23/2008, -3/+2Everyone is dissing on Kid Rock! The message was clear people! Free stuff is AWESOME!

- jayyyycubtr33s, on 07/23/2008, -3/+3kid rock is a douche bag.

- jayyyycubtr33s, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1i beg to differ,
all summer long should just curl up and die.
- chemman, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2While I agree that downloading songs is stealing from the artist, I don't think the economic model between music artists and companies like Apple are anywhere near the same so the comparison doesn't quite get the message across that great. When musicians are starting out, they go around giving their music away and encouraging people to distribute it to friends, family, etc. Then when they get popular/famous, they start charging for their product (rightfully so, they are putting out a product that costs time and effort to make). You wouldn't see Apple out giving away ipods to people, then a year or two later start charging money for people to buy them or replace them. I think it is that perception of the music industry that makes people believe downloading music is somehow different then stealing an ipod (that and people have a difficult time realizing the value of a non-physical, non-tangible item)
- t4m5t3r, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3ok, so downloading a song is the same as stealing a physical object, well kid rock your lucky your good with music (im assuming you must be if your rich) because your not very clever,
Firstly a "song" on a PC is simply some lines of code, that come together, its not a physical object and can be removed with 2 clicks, it doesnt "exist" in a physical sense, a car on the other hand? yeah little different,
Car makers make their cars then sell them for profit, where as the record industry make music, they profit from, merchendise, TV, advertising, concerts, radio, other royalties, and thats us not even got to the Selling CD's bit! and then theres the fact that time and time again they have proven that downloading movies and music has NOT EFFECT on profits, its the ***** music and movies that are causing that, people arent buying it because they dowloaded it, their not buying it because its *****!!
So kidd rock you sarcy prick you may want to consider that before being a complete TOOL! - origamistars, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3He should count himself lucky if anyone even wants to steal his brain-destroying crap.
- gineraso, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7What a tool.
- charlie763, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4Copying is not stealing.
- Cyberdactyl, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2The HUGE fallacy in Kid's argument is; when you "steal" music, you're taking directly from the source.
When you STEAL merchandise from a brick and mortar, you're stealing from the franchised middleman, NOT the company who provided the merchandise.
Of course, I hardly expect stoner Kid Rock to see that logic or to make that connection. - Arasaka, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2The damage is done on my part, I can't take Kid Rock seriously ever since I think of him as Tommy Lee's sloppy seconds guy.
