- War3Zone, on 07/02/2008, -6/+53that's a bit lame but happens to all of us.. Kirk still rocks
- jmreid, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8Ya, i don't see how this is "Hilarius". Even the pros are human and get frustrated.
- aamittle, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6***** it! We'll do it live!!!
- jordanlgta, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1That's what she said.
- icelebpics, on 07/02/2008, -11/+4OmG! I can't believe he's doing that...but hey can anybody tell me what song is that...the Drum Loop is SO FREAKING Cool!
- justice7, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4some kind of monster.
- Mac_Dre, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Some kind of failure
- umarboy, on 07/02/2008, -3/+7Exactly...Did you look at his face?
"It's the one's in between that are ****ing with me".- destron, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3ones*
There is no apostrophe in a plural...
/punctuation nazi
- destron, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3ones*
- abdul16, on 07/02/2008, -14/+3er.. OH MY GOD!! hahah my friend looked at the video and he played the whole thing in like 5 mins!!
- justice7, on 07/02/2008, -2/+46Kirk is just like .. "whats this st anger *****? this sucks, i cant play it!"
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9I actually got that impression at the beginning, because it looked like he was being weirded out by how loose the strings are. For those who don't know St. Anger is played in Drop D down a whole note, so the tuning is :
C G C F A D
The sixth string, the thickest heaviest one the low E, is especially loose. You can drag the ***** around with your finger. - sergiodlopes, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Actually it's easy to play that... I thought he was a better guitarist.
- justice7, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1there is no question that he's an AMAZING guitarist. The problem he was having clearly wasn't the ability of playing, but rather the sequence of notes. There is a big difference.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9I actually got that impression at the beginning, because it looked like he was being weirded out by how loose the strings are. For those who don't know St. Anger is played in Drop D down a whole note, so the tuning is :
- AmyVernon, on 07/02/2008, -1/+19nice to know that even the pros can f*** up, too.
- unravelled, on 07/02/2008, -17/+8The lack of talent disturbs my napster memories.
- fasda, on 07/02/2008, -2/+10listen to Master of Puppets or And justice for All and try to say no talent with a straight.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6A straight? Why's he have to be playing poker when he listens to it.
- wes00mertes, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Get off his case. He meant to say a straight man.
- fasda, on 07/02/2008, -2/+10listen to Master of Puppets or And justice for All and try to say no talent with a straight.
- anothrnbdy, on 07/02/2008, -13/+5In before "Metallica sucks."
- JigsawX, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6Your about 20 years late!!!!!
- fasda, on 07/03/2008, -2/+5Wait wait wait And Justice for All and Black album are less then 20 years old you must be confused with some other band.
- JigsawX, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant

- Crossmenjeff, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1wrong website, take it back to 4chan, this is Digg.
- badjoke, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1What's the difference?
- JigsawX, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6Your about 20 years late!!!!!
- umarboy, on 07/02/2008, -13/+6I wouldn;t agree if you tell us that Metallica sucsk! they freaking ROCK bro
- chrispchiken, on 07/02/2008, -4/+9Yea i've been drunk/high/effedup and have forgotten my own song too.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Nah, the problem isn't that they're ***** up, it's that they're sober now.
- aukxsona, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1What I was thinking LOL.
- tcasey22, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4They're sober now...
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Nah, the problem isn't that they're ***** up, it's that they're sober now.
- eastclintwood, on 07/03/2008, -5/+22Not too bad really, sometime it's tough to nail a tricky part -- even when you're Kirk.
Great footage, I wouldn't be embarrassed :)- ExSlashdotter, on 07/03/2008, -8/+5The thing is, thats not tricky at all. Not even for the second-year guitar students that I teach.
"it starts on this one, and then it goes to this one and this one"
Jesus christ.- urrea, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1yeah its fake... that whole tvshow was lame...
- ExSlashdotter, on 07/03/2008, -8/+5The thing is, thats not tricky at all. Not even for the second-year guitar students that I teach.
- bleutuna, on 07/03/2008, -6/+12I'm no Metallica fan, but in his defense, can you do it? I can't :p
- Sakumi, on 07/03/2008, -3/+4i can.. it's honestly very basic guitar.. VERY basic.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1That song is incredibly easy. It's basically the same type of pattern Iron Man and Smoke on the Water follow.
- xchrisxsays, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Yeah Smoke on the Water in Drop-D and double picked. But still pretty easy nonetheless.
- oblique63, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I think it's being a bit exaggerated as to how easy it is, I mean, sure it's easy as breathing for most of us experienced (metal) guitar players, but I could see somebody getting caught up on a fast 16th note 'E-beating'/alternate-picking pattern, its not the simplest thing to go from 8th notes to 16th notes and back again, while keeping time perfectly, in such a short interval... so I wouldn't say it's exactly 'Iron Man' simple, seeing as how it wouldn't be that easy for a beginner to pull off properly anyway...
and besides, I could totally see that sort of thing happening to anyone just learning a new riff for the first time, it's usually the timing that gets people, not so much the technical skill required to play it...
- asdfer, on 07/03/2008, -7/+7That's from "Some Kind Of Monster" movie. And why is this getting at least 50 diggs?
- thrillhouse900, on 07/03/2008, -20/+7"the riff goes here, and then to here, and then up here"
Jesus they've been playing guitar for how long? Even I know where notes are on a guitar.
What a joke.- Typhoon2009, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3Long enough to make them *****' rich, and long enough to have released some of the best thrash albums.
- aukxsona, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It's called memory block. He has been playing guitar for SO LONG he can't remember WHICH riff he is playing, and is having a hard time learning a NEW riff. It happens to people past say 29 to 35. It gets worse as the years go on, but it's a NORMAL thing.
- thrillhouse900, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Money = good music
Rich people = the best people
- Typhoon2009, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3Long enough to make them *****' rich, and long enough to have released some of the best thrash albums.
- Ex3poo, on 07/03/2008, -17/+6Metallica Sucks
- alex7575, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2Post grunge Metallica sucks
- BSeffrood, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1You're kidding right? GRUNGE. You have no ***** clue what grunge is. Nirvana is grunge, Metallica was THRASH METAL.
- alex7575, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1lol, I was listening to Metallica before you were even born, and you're right, I don't have a ***** clue what grunge is, and don't care to know either.
After the black album, they released "Load" the last piece of music from Metallica I ever paid for, "Load" was what I call the "grunge" switch over, if you call that THRASH METAL (and use all capitals to emphasize your point) then you have no ***** clue what trash metal is. - BSeffrood, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I was referring to everything before Metallica (Album), and if you didn't notice I used "was,' was being that they once were thrash metal.
- BSeffrood, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1You're kidding right? GRUNGE. You have no ***** clue what grunge is. Nirvana is grunge, Metallica was THRASH METAL.
- alex7575, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2Post grunge Metallica sucks
- Wezlanator, on 07/03/2008, -5/+9He had trouble playing it cause he knew this album was going to be sub par.
- PullingTeeth, on 07/03/2008, -3/+23Anyone that pisses off Lars is cool in my books
- jmoh, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3THIS MONSTER LIVES!!!!!!
- c0mpletec0ntrol, on 07/03/2008, -11/+10The only embarrassing thing I see here is that they're still playing together after the black album.
- antiorblkflag9, on 07/03/2008, -11/+2Besides his existence and every song Metallica put out?
- daftfunk1, on 07/03/2008, -1/+13http://youtube.com/watch?v=j11SQkiA2IY
- DrDigg, on 07/03/2008, -2/+4Can anyone translate this for non-guitar players?
- Elliuotatar, on 07/03/2008, -3/+11Yeah I can.
BORING. Buried. - n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2There's nothing to translate, he was screwing up. The thing is that it's interesting to see such an amazing player to screw up, if you say that he sucks or has no talent, let's see you do it. Personally i would rank him in my top ten best guitarists alive.
- Purin, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Kirk Hammet is hardly amazing.
Sloppy pentatonics masked by a wah pedal isn't impressive.
- Purin, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Kirk Hammet is hardly amazing.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4He's basically getting pissed off because he's ***** up a simple riff. Looks like he was having a really off day.
- YoctoYotta, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3yeah, a long day in the studio can make the simplest things pretty trialing. i bet after a good night's sleep and he was all over that riff the next morning.
p.s. - i hate metallica's music, but all due respect to them as capable musicians
- YoctoYotta, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3yeah, a long day in the studio can make the simplest things pretty trialing. i bet after a good night's sleep and he was all over that riff the next morning.
- toekneebullard, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Saying "lets see you do it" doesn't count for much here. It's not a very complicated riff, he just couldn't get his head around it at the time.
I think many musicians can understand this. Sometimes an odd timing can just throw you off, then you over-think it, and it just messes with your head. - calenlas, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1These sorts of sessions are common when none of the musicians involved knows how to talk about music. They can't communicate to each other what the problem is so they can't solve it. Frustration ensues.
Okay, so if you can't intelligently verbalize the problem you're having, the alternative is to slow down and play it clearly and precisely. Except in this case, when he slows down to demonstrate he loses all sense of rhythm and just confuses matters more.
- Elliuotatar, on 07/03/2008, -3/+11Yeah I can.
- Tyrghast, on 07/03/2008, -17/+5Metallica: you are old and dried up. go away. unlike The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Rush, Queen, or any other good band, no one will be playing your music 30 years from now.
- Typhoon2009, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3LOL WUT
Their shows sell out all the time dude. They were amazing back in the 80s (wish I was alive back then), the stuff from their earlier years is classic thrash.- Wartyboskfapped, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1by that logic, Michael Bay is the greatest director ever.
- Typhoon2009, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I never said ticket sales = talent. The guy says they're old and dried up, yet they still sell out huge shows. If they still play generic 80s pop songs on the radio, then stuff like Metallica will be on the radio for a while as well. I think Tyrghast is just cranky because they didn't pre-chew his food at the senior home enough today.
- BSeffrood, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Yes they will
- fasda, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2You don't think think people will not be playing masterpieces like For Whom the Bell Tolls, Master Of Puppets, One, Sanitarium, And Justice For All, and that Enter Sandman will not be heard on rock stations around the world. Metallica is a band that has been and will continue to sell out entire stadiums in hours for what 25 years and you don't think they will be remembered as one of the best heavy metal bands in history?
- Typhoon2009, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3LOL WUT
- HotDogBun, on 07/03/2008, -1/+30NEEDS MORE COWBELL
- NightRiderkami, on 07/03/2008, -2/+12Any guitar player will tell you there are some riffs that are hard to conceptualize, even though they are super easy for other people of the same skill.
- AzureRise, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3This is a pretty simple riff. A really simple one. He just screwed up. People with half his skill can play it. He was just having a ***** day probably and couldn't concentrate.
- 423anonymous, on 07/03/2008, -8/+1this is really sad. he was once my hero then the newest album came out.... now this... i guess everyone has some kind of bad phase..
- michaellane, on 07/03/2008, -13/+4dave mustaine could have that figured in about 30 seconds. but would never write something so worthless.
- Sarumiso, on 07/03/2008, -5/+14I don't understand what I just watched. Can someone explain it in Guitar Hero terms?
- ErrorLoading, on 07/03/2008, -0/+15Red, Red, Blue, Red, GREEN, then Blue.
- TheGreatBelow, on 07/03/2008, -2/+12http://youtube.com/watch?v=okL9E9u2m2w
Kirk is a guitar God. Everyone has their embarrassing moments.- ShaggyRogers, on 07/03/2008, -4/+1He WAS. Not anymore.
- sx66gns, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Don't be a fag , dude.
- ShaggyRogers, on 07/03/2008, -4/+1He WAS. Not anymore.
- SuperMoses, on 07/03/2008, -6/+8***** LARS!
- eliot2000, on 07/03/2008, -3/+7Why were all the Google ads on the video for cat-related things? Cat furniture- cat meow ringtone- free kitten classifieds. Is someone at Google calling Metallica pussies?
- BananaGrabber, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4I have trouble memorizing and playing almost anything well no matter how easy it is until the next day. Muscle memory is a bitch to build up in a short span of time, especially on the spot like in the video.
- ShaggyRogers, on 07/03/2008, -14/+8This is why REAL musicians use sheet music.
- pagit, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1yea but can he read sheet music?
- Jasonstech, on 07/03/2008, -1/+41***** it, We’ll do it live.
- username7410, on 07/03/2008, -12/+5Really not that big of a deal. Metallica still sucks though! ***** you Lars, your pie-faced cry baby.
- peestandingup, on 07/03/2008, -6/+3Kirk, with all due respect, its obviously time to let the hair go. Its looking pretty scullet-like.
- YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 07/03/2008, -5/+5Metallica banned me from napster back in 99
and im pretty sure the error message was
"You have been banned by Metallica" when i tried to login through napster - jimbowf, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5welcome to 4 years ago
- stfucupcake, on 07/03/2008, -0/+21I don't get how this is embarrassing. I mean, practicing is practicing no matter who you are.
Buried as inaccurate.- mugicha, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Seriously, I kept waiting for the "embarrassing blunder". I thought he was going to ***** himself or something.
- ufia, on 07/03/2008, -2/+20***** SONG SUCKS! WE'LL DO IT LIVE!
- nemo001, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6Napster bad!
- lithera, on 07/03/2008, -0/+22So.......where's the blunder? All I see is are musicians learning a new song. Buried.
- ousthouse, on 07/03/2008, -3/+8Somewhat off topic, but I gotta get this off my chest;
Load and ReLoad kicked ass.
My inner music snob has kept me from admitting it for over 10 years. - godmode, on 07/03/2008, -10/+1hes a drummer right? so wheres the blunder? wtf is this *****.
- godmode, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1disregard that im a moron
- CuntryBoner, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1And the fail sinks in...
- capnhapnscratch, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Definitely a guitarist...
- CuntryBoner, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Wow, you just failed so hard I don't even think you realize it yet...
- godmode, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1disregard that im a moron
- cschnitz, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Geez. It's not like he's Larz or anything.
- ocellnuri, on 07/03/2008, -1/+15Looks like a typical writing/recording session to me... and simple parts can get really tricky when they change in small ways. What's embarrassing about this?
- Kingster, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Revver site isn't working for me... Found on Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=546KjKMB9kw
- haulboss, on 07/03/2008, -0/+9It just shows that on stage they make it look easy but when there learning it, it can be just as hard as being a beginner
- aimhelix, on 07/03/2008, -13/+2eww Metallica.
- kentwidman, on 07/03/2008, -5/+1Well you can tell that Kirk Hammet never played drums.
