Pixies say they will never record again
nme.com — lack told Uncut: "I wish it could go a bit further again and we could make a record. Not all of the band-members are willing to do that. Rather than make a big deal out of it, we've agreed to just continue to play live."

- GinsuGuy585, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Who cares? I heard Led Zeppelin might get back together.
- Cab00se, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@GinsuGuy585
Zeppelin is not getting back together, they refuse to play without bonham(who's dead), not to mention robert plant has a successful solo career. and john paul jones is trying to enjoy the rest of his life with his family. as kickass as it would be for them to get back together, they are most deffinantly not. - jollyllama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"I heard Led Zeppelin might get back together."
That's a dumb thing to say. - texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As long as they come to DC and I get to hear "Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons" live, I'll be happy. :)
- kingp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can understand the reasoning behind this. The songwriting was a major source of contention between Frank Black and Kim Deal. She wanted more of her songs to be put on the albums and he didn't want them on there. That was why they broke up in the first place. If they were to start recording again, it would just open up those old wounds.
I personally love the Pixies and would love to hear new material, but until Kim Deal and Frank Black work out their issues, I don't think it will happen. - akc77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know its a shame and I can feel your pain. However I have been listening to the pixies for 16 years now and I still find things in their songs that I haven't noticed before. Probably the most influential band of the late eighties and early nineties. Even if they would record another album, it would certainly be interesting to listen to, but I doubt that they could recreate the magic of those days.

- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22What, did that first comment not have quite enough O's in it?
- skabber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9NO :)
Digg's awsome comment system didn't give any success that the comment was posted. And the comment wasn't on the page. So I figured the comment didn't take, and tried again.
OOOOOOOOOOOOPS

- invader, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6NOOOOOOOOOO (this time for getting buried...)
- tk4two1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6By the Pixies saying they will never record again means that they will record again eventually. This kind of ***** always happens. Ozzy retired a couple of time too remember? Give it time and they will record again. Doesn't mater either way to me though because I never really could understand what the bid deal whit the Pixies was anyways.
- weneedsound, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I agree. If they continue playing together, sooner or later they will record something
- jollyllama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"I agree. If they continue playing together, sooner or later they will record something"
That's a silly thing to say. You've obviously never been in a band. - Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bet the OP is right. But i'm not sure that a Pixies record would have the same degree of awsome if recorded now than it did back in the best days of indie. Then again, with the crap that's out now, a Pixies record might be the album of the millinium.
- texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I agree. If they continue playing together, sooner or later they will record something"
Can anyone say, "Live Album"? - solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"I never really could understand what the bid deal whit the Pixies was anyways."
College music. Nuff said.
- Webchump, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4That sucks.
- EssPii, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Best news I've heard all day.
- jeru48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5How sad...... just a reminder they do have one new song since they got back together (Bam Thwok, available on iTunes)
- 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dont waste your time on Bam Thwok, go out and get a listen of Black Letter Days, then, continue following Frank Blacks (and sometimes the catholics) post-pixies-rockage. Im sad we wont be getting any new pixies tunes, but as long as Charles keeps crankin out great music, I'll be plenty happy.
- smedstadc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What a shame. When I heard Bam Thwok it got me all excited about new music in the future! :(
- Itamae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I honestly don't like Frank Black's solo stuff. Maybe it's just me, but I liked the Pixies/Breeders better. Kim rocks.
- briken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Frank Black seems to be getting bigger by the day.
- bengarland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you mean that literally or figuratively?
Heh. - briken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Literally

- everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2wHO?
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Exactly who?
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Man that sucks. The Pixies have influenced a lot of bands in the past, and I was hoping they would continue, because honestly, I'm getting tired of this rap/pop *****.
- ogmandino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Frank Black has put out at least a dozen great albums since the pixies. The Breeders have done some good stuff too. Its better for the world that they continue to work separately.
- klyxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why couldn't they work together and separately at the same time? Are the two mutually exclusive? The first Breeder album "Pod" came out in 1990 according to Allmusic.com which would be between the Pixie releases "Bossanova" (1990) and "Trompe le Monde" (1991). All three releases were reviewed quite favorably across the board. Frank Black released "Honeycomb" in 2005 while on tour with the Pixies, and that also got good reviews, with a metacritic.com score of 70.
I not trying to be mean, but I don't understand how it would be bad if Black, Deal, or whomever in the band pursued other projects while still producing good music in the Pixies. If they decide not to, like the article says, due to whatever reasons, then that's that. Just don't say that it's better since they can't do more than one music project at a time.

- crapple, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just rocked out to 'Hey' on my way into work. I'd rather see them live anyday...
I just hope they come Atlanta's way next time. - tkroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Notice how he says, "rather than make a big deal out of it." Wonder if that is a Kim Deal dig?
I'm glad they will still be playing live. Bands need to show the kids that a concert is about musicians, not some dude playing records. - KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Frank Black said previously that he couldn't capture the same magic with recent attempts at writing Pixies-esque songs. I'd appreciate it if they left a good thing alone.
- Nightfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They will make their money off of touring and that is a good thing. That is how I support the bands I like. If you haven't seen the Pixies before, I highly recommend them! :)
- ctrlfreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Better they end now rather than ruin it by with a string of crappy albums because their hearts aren't in it
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Who the hell are they in the first place? Ive never even heard of them
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Pixies and Nirvana are probably the two most important Alternative/Indy Rock bands from the early 90s. Bono of U2 called them the best band that ever came out of America. Kurt Cobain called their album Bossanova his favorite album of the 80s. Think you haven't heard them? Remember the song that plays at the end of Fight Club when the buildings come tumbling down? That's them. They rock.
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Kurt Cobain called their album Bossanova his favorite album of the 80s." Moreover, IIRC, he has been said to be inspired by the Pixies :-D
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
- arcrox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2It's better this way. The Pixies are too old, too rich, and too happy to capture the same magic their music did back in the late 80s and early 90s. It was already a miracle they reunited for Coachella. Bam Thwok was pretty bad, and I imagine trying to capitalize anymore on their comeback by recording new albums would tarnish their already solid place in the history of music and in the memories of fans.
- Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're not very rich. The reason they came back in the first place was to make some money.
- 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2-haventheardofem's Download Surfer Rosa by any means necessary and listen to it on repeat until you crave more. I'm sure you have heard Cobains' famous quote referring to Smells like Teen Spirit "I was basically trying to write a Pixies song"
- Flynn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If you haven't heard of the Pixies do a search rather than flaunting your ignorance.
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yes, if you don't know who they are, why exactly are you telling us?
- xoundmind, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1They hadn't made a good record since Surfer Rosa. Not a big deal. Besides, the ferocity of the LP (yes, I'm old and bought it when it came on as a RECORD) was largely due to the production work of Steve Albini.
- swirvi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Surfer Rosa is great, (my favorite too) but so are Doolittle and Trompe le Monde. Maybe it's time to pick up a compact disc player.
- kenz0r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3STOP WITH THE GOD DAMN "NOOOOOO" COMMENTS
- bullines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When they released "Bam Thwok" on iTunes, I was optimistic. So much for that now :(
- Choppinski, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0This Monkey gone to Heaven.
- lofidan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2That's good! Unnecessary capitalisation, lack of possessive apostrophe and "s" after "Monkey" and only an hour after the first person posted the lyric!
- Jeduthun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0"I heard Led Zeppelin might get back together".
Sure. The Beatles will get back together, too.
With Yoko Ono as the lead singer. - jamms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1frank black's just testing the waters. he was the pixies to begin with. i still suspect they will make more new music. the last time i was them, last summer, they played a few new songs. bottom line of the story is at least they do not plan to go away, which is fantastic news to good music lovers.
- tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Good news, that big comeback concert a year or two ago was a testament to old ass people that still think they are hip (the crowd and the band). Just a tip to you 30+ hipsters, if you got kids its probably time to stop going to concerts unless its like raffi or some crap.
Just let it die , at least you can keep the better memories alive without the surely doomed "comeback record" to taint them.- helike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4If we've learned anything here, the Pixies were never talented musicians; nor influential. Their popularity is based on good looks and snappy clothes; and all music has a five (?) year shelf-life -- after which it loses all value. Is this correct professor? FYI: not over 25. Not a hipster. Just appreciate and respect influential artists.
- rbvmusic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2how the hell did the pixies have snappy clothes?
- boredofthesane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yikes, the sarcasm was lost on you man.
- miscreant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Just wait until all of the original members run out of money. We'll see a new record in no time. Along with peppy versions of "Monkey Gone To Heaven" for McDonalds or some other crap.
- rsplatpc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2On a Wave of Happy French Fries.....
- HouseofEl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Um anyone that is a fan of their music would know that this isn't news at all. I'm not saying anything about the story. Just that they have always been this way. They tend to play well together. But get them into the studio and it's too many problems. Saw them 4 times last year and they seemed to be having a great time. As long as they continue to tour I have no problem with this.
- brok3nti3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't think they should record another album. All of the previous ones were amazing, why try and do something new and then potentially screw it up? For all the people who say that as long as they keep playing shows together they will eventually record again, you need to reexamine your logic. The Sex Pistols only have one full length record recorded and they have been playing together for quite some time. Just because a band continues to go on tour does not mean they have to record new material. I consider this really good news.
- JakeWalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Of course they have recorded almost all their shows, which are available at www.pixiesdiscs.com.
- ROBERTCAT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bad news. I think Black said earlier (around the time they got back together) that they were planning on recording another album. Oh well
- vitorleite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The tension between them is what makes it all work. If you ever been to one of their concerts you can definitely see the tension between black and deal - guitar and bass. It definitely makes it all work together, and this interview is so funny, he seems so... clueless? maybe? Anyways, great concerts, wouldn't be surprised if they did record again, but they are right in "not making a big deal out of it"
- LaminatorX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd rather have no more studio records from the Pixies than a mediocre one. If the muse grabs them and they change their minds, awesome. As it is, I respect their integrity.
- HisDudness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Possibly one of the best bands of all time well certainly one of my favorites, such a shame, but I suppose inevitable in the end. After all you cant keep writing amazing music forever.
- dontuseautofire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They haven't recorded since 1991 anyway.
