- n3wb4y, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5i love these sort of people.
our conversations usually descend into them accusing me of having bad taste, because i don't like a band as much as they do (although i liked the band long before they did).
and usually, people like this only have a handful of bands that they have ever even heard of. - tidu, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2I think everybody has that damned shirt

- ElbowGeek, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Dude reminds me of our keyboard player. I love Zep, but this guy's a bit of a nutter - he'll randomly decide that the version of the song we're playing will be the one from their January 19th, 1973 show or something, that he's gone and learned note for note (he's actually a concert-level classical pianist).
Still love Zep though. - 36CrzyFsts, on 07/22/2008, -6/+0Jesus, Mary, And/Or Joseph!!!! Is this really digg, let alone news worthy?? I mean...

- KillsTheWeak, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8We didn't pay for music in 2001 either, we used Napster, and before that we found FTP servers via IRC, and before that we logged into a BBS, and before that we recorded songs off the radio on cassettes, and before that we recorded off the radio on to 8-tracks, and before that we would just kidnap the band.
- yellowswan, on 07/22/2008, -0/+15…And before that we simply looked at reprints of the Well-Tempered Clavier on sheets of vellum fresh off the Gutenberg Presses, imagining what it might sound like and actually devoting ourselves in the smallest of ways to the deeper enjoyment and understanding of music. Both bands are great. Please spare us the fanboy battle. - ShaggyRogers, on 07/22/2008, -3/+6Relax, Ziggy. I'm by no means a fanboy of either one. Each band was great at what they did. Two different monsters. But on the whole, the Dead were much cleaner and more experienced musicians. I was trying to point out that saying being a fan of the Dead is "worse" doesn't make sense.
I'm not one to "battle" online. This is a mere explanation. - viggenguy, on 07/22/2008, -3/+1RTFA, please
- BetterOffEd, on 07/22/2008, -3/+1Shaggy, please go smoke another *****' bowl and spare us the neo-hippy bias *****. Anyone who actually plays an instrument will tell you that John Bonham was one of the greatest rock drummers ever (NOT Mickey Hart); Jimmy Page was a borderline virtuoso; and JPJ was masterful at everything else you heard on those records: bass, piano, harmonium, etc.
But hey... Good luck on that Phish reunion tour.

Good ***** God were you born in '95? Do you really not remember any of the '90s? - KillsTheWeak, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1I was born in 80, and i live the 90's. I remember everything about the 90's. I had a portable cd player in 93. BMG and Columbia House catalog was mostly cd's by around 96, and by 2000 they didn't even offer cassettes. Those adapters were out during the 90's, and were quite useful as portable cd players were everywhere. The only other music medium i saw people use was the failed Mini Disc, and that was only for a month or 2.
- talkingwires, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3Hey, English obviously isn't his first language. Give him a break. That said, "I was born in 80, and i live the 90's" is brilliant. I ~live~ the 90's, maaaan!
MiniDiscs were around for quite some time; they came out in the early 90's, if I remember correctly. Unlike CDs, they were writable, and most recorders had a Digital input, which made copying a friend's CD so much easier than using a tape, since it automatically separated the tracks. You still had to record in "real time", though.
I had a portable MiniDisc player with a digital input, too. And, yes, I played it through my car's stereo with one of those tape adapters.
My brother made a ton of money importing blank discs from Japan and reselling them on eBay to Americans. I couldn't convince him that the new MP3 players were the wave of the future. Either way, ~somebody~ was still buying MiniDiscs at the end of the decade.

- Br3ach, on 07/22/2008, -2/+11I did this once summer with Earth, Wind and Fire. I think my friends had nightmares with "September" as background music :D
- tykwondingo, on 07/22/2008, -6/+11Whether it's zepplin, doors, floyd, stones or the dead, everyone has either had or been this friend.
Buried for age.- dn11, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5Hendrix dude, ***** Hendrix is god! Dude, he used to put LSD in his ***** eyelids and ***** man! No *****, my friends brother told me.
- cutchyacokov, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Wow and I always thought it was his guitar playing that was special. I put LSD in my eyelids, where are my adoring fans?
- DeFex, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1I had a friend who was like this but with Rush.
- dn11, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5Hendrix dude, ***** Hendrix is god! Dude, he used to put LSD in his ***** eyelids and ***** man! No *****, my friends brother told me.
- Duncster, on 07/22/2008, -7/+46Sounds like him and his friends had a little bit of a "Communication Breakdown."
- sebby2022, on 07/22/2008, -1/+9I dugg you up but.....***** you
- dn11, on 07/22/2008, -0/+14They've gotten tired of him "Rammbling On" perhaps?

...wait?!? what? - smashingmonkey, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5Sounds like he's not getting a whole lotta love.
- trentasaurus, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1Well when you really like a rock band, that's the way it's gotta be.
OK im sorry we should probably stop now. - terryfunk4life, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1i should kill my self for laughing at that
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/22/2008, -18/+8The Onion = Auto Bury
- bjornski, on 07/22/2008, -4/+2Auto-bury AND add whiny comment. Right?
- nogChoco, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1Well said, Apocalyptic0n3.
- jaybol, on 07/22/2008, -3/+55it is just an article that i thought was funny that people could relate to, and it had never been submitted to digg.
- AppleGeorge, on 07/22/2008, -2/+43It hasn't been submitted because when it was written Kevin Rose was still masturbating to the girl in front of him in 11th grade.
- kevinwiz, on 07/22/2008, -1/+13I accept your apology.
- gabellh, on 07/22/2008, -3/+21It was an OK story, nothing more special than any other Onion story.
The best part is the quote from his friend where he says "...next to Dan" and then they put in [Alberman], just in case you weren't sure which Dan it was. Classic. - Syphon8, on 07/22/2008, -5/+16Luckily, I discovered the Beatles, the Doors, Jefferson Starship, Led Zeppelin, Floyd, and Aerosmith at the same time, so I never really bugged my friends with one set of classic rock.
Although a year or so before that I was the Nirvana guy >>- kds405, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6Jefferson Starship? Airplane. Starship never happened...there was no city built on rock n roll.
- Syphon8, on 07/22/2008, -4/+1Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship, they're all the same damn thing.
- kds405, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4Anybody with ears can tell that they are not the same.
- billybobbernard, on 07/26/2008, -1/+0http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Starship
- kds405, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6Jefferson Starship? Airplane. Starship never happened...there was no city built on rock n roll.
- Danington, on 07/22/2008, -10/+2Bring Me The Horizon

God bless you Onion.- Nairebis, on 07/22/2008, -1/+3"You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today. Then you find ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun."
- TheMachine1, on 07/22/2008, -7/+7People on the autism spectrum can develop a single minded interest in a narrow field like this.
- bjornski, on 07/22/2008, -2/+5My ex-wife's daughter is autistic.
And holy *****, are you right.- TheMachine1, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3Repetitive behavior is one of the core defining characteristics of autism.
- bjornski, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1I got her hooked on Everquest to keep her busy a while back.
When she gets "in her focus", she's one of the most radical clerics I've ever seen though. I mean she's HARDCORE into her "mission" when she concentrates.
Can only focus on one task at a time, and only listens to about one CD a month (over and over and over), but when she focuses on something, she's damned good at it.
- brainwash, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1...Are you actually trying to assert that its possible for every douche like that is autistic? If not, that was ***** pointless.
- bjornski, on 07/22/2008, -2/+5My ex-wife's daughter is autistic.
- AppleGeorge, on 07/22/2008, -7/+2I guess this guy has been living inside of a closet his entire life.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -7/+5What's with the whole duplicate ANCIENT stories from The Onion posting these days?!
Are people just flat out ignoring the "this article may be a duplicate" warning when submitting? Sheesh.... - AppleGeorge, on 07/22/2008, -12/+27SEVEN ***** YEARS OLD ARTICLE.
- erichansenchao, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0yea i just noticed that especially when he mention the Lord of the Ring trailer.....lol wow thats kind of sad on my part

a lot of old storys - archaist, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5Does it matter? At least 1700 people haven't seen it before.
- Arguman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Your comment sort of reminds me of the Onion article from 2006, "Recently Unearthed E-Mail Reveals What Life Was Like In 1995"
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/48970
Of course the best part of that article is that there is a skull and some bones next to the monitor. wtf? :)
- mlbwebdesign, on 07/22/2008, -7/+16Wow that's from the Web 1.0
- robwhite1979, on 07/22/2008, -6/+6Bah, older than dirt...
- Shellbait, on 07/22/2008, -9/+3What is a Led Zeppelin?
- KevyKev, on 07/22/2008, -3/+2A lighter than air craft made of lead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead
- highps3, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1When you have really bad tacos the "LED Zeppelin" is what comes out.
- Arguman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1What's a Tim Conway?
Oh, about 120 pounds.
- KevyKev, on 07/22/2008, -3/+2A lighter than air craft made of lead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead
- matero5009, on 07/22/2008, -7/+1funny part was when he was talking about tapes hahaha
how old is that article?! - borez, on 07/22/2008, -7/+2Was that an ancient history lesson from the internet
- 1shawn, on 07/22/2008, -11/+6If I wanted to read fake news I'd just go over to FoxNews.com. Posting "articles" from The Onion on Digg is so lame.
- roxgod666, on 07/22/2008, -4/+0looks like someone just came out from under the rock
