- willynilly, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2And holy *****, he spelled "'70s" right, and some dumb-ass modded that down!
Digg: once a tech-news site, now a hangout for the aggressively illiterate. - HotDogBun, on 07/17/2008, -3/+3WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IT'S A ***** HORRIBLE LIST!
- Surferess, on 07/16/2008, -11/+6Dugg for Hotel California, my favorite!
- ngmcs8203, on 07/17/2008, -5/+4Jesus Christ, grow a pair. The only good thing to ever come out of the Eagles is Joe Walsh.
- AndrewKC6, on 07/16/2008, -5/+4Iggy Pop :S
- Obey666, on 07/16/2008, -9/+39where the hell is FREEBIRD???
- thegreenspanput, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1no frigging *****.
- skored, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1good call. it definitely should have been on the list....
i was actually pleasantly surprised that they included 'comfortably numb' but really puzzled with the 'free bird' omission. - tim710, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Isn't Freebird a duet/duel?
Even if it is though, it should still be up there. - Serphyas, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Freebird's soloist was also part of the Outlaws, wasn't he?
(fingers along to "Green Grass and High Tides" massive monster mamma-jam)- ngmcs8203, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Allen Collins? No he wasn't.
- mooseofshadows, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1The soloist for The Outlaws was later a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, but not when they first were performing freebird.
- benjorino, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5Freebird bores me a little. it just goes on and on for ages, and its mainly just a sequence of similar repeated phrases... its still a great solo, just not really as creative as most of the others in that list in my opinion.
- vexingmodstwo, on 07/16/2008, -5/+34Comfortably Numb. Hands down the best guitar solo ever. Not because of any extraordinary skill needed to play it, but because somehow the notes are harmonically tuned to the human body and you literally feel like your taking a ride along with the subject of the story who is bombed off his gourd.
- punx, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3Yeah, that's a great one. I listen to that song when I am in the dentist's chair. Well I listen to all of The Wall, but that one seems especially significant at the time.
- willynilly, on 07/17/2008, -4/+1"your taking a ride"
What? - im2emo4myshrt, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I am sorry Stairway to Heaven is the best in my eyes. It is short, but absolutely perfect. The entire song builds to that one note in the solo where it just explodes in a heavenly eruption of bliss.
I think I just creamed a little. - WhoDoneIt, on 07/17/2008, -1/+0Can't deny the Floyd, you are right.
While not "technically" a solo, I think the merger of the Sax, Guitar and Vocals in the Gunner's Dream is one of the most powerful combo's to date!
ShiVAARS! - DetpackJump, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1Well, that "tuned to the body" pseudoscience is nonsense, but it is still a damn good song.
- stockjones, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1speed or emotion. I'll take emotion.
- juliaperesypko, on 07/16/2008, -7/+6The Eagles: Hotel California.. i like it ... it's classic.
- RRJackson, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2The Dude: Jesus, man, can you change the station?

- RRJackson, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2The Dude: Jesus, man, can you change the station?
- tke100, on 07/16/2008, -9/+1I agree with Obey666 Freebird should be on that list!
- thegreenspanput, on 07/16/2008, -10/+1Trey's solos are better than all those
- seamark21, on 07/16/2008, -3/+12This list is right on, all these songs kick it in there own unique way. Listen to 14 Best Guitar Solos of the 70s the playlist is streaming and free so check it....
http://www.nutsie.com/playlist/14%20Best%20Guitar% ...- jonfredric, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2NICE~!!!!!
- SOMETIMESmovie, on 07/16/2008, -6/+1WOW! Nice list...sans Freebird of course.
- kellfinder, on 07/17/2008, -4/+5Hotel California for me!
- Radanator, on 07/17/2008, -5/+10Godzilla?
- Serphyas, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5If ***** "I Wanna Be Sedated" makes the list, I would at least expect some BOC love.
- SonnyJoeFoxx, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Granted, BOC has fantastic solos in their deeper cuts but not even the middle of "Reaper" makes this list.
*shrugs*
- SonnyJoeFoxx, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Granted, BOC has fantastic solos in their deeper cuts but not even the middle of "Reaper" makes this list.

- RegalGSX, on 07/17/2008, -3/+24Make no mistake, Han Solo was the best.
- bermudianguy, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1I see what you did there .
- DrewG7, on 07/17/2008, -4/+5Awesome list, especially "Sultans of Swing" and "Search and Destroy". Actually, especially for "Search and Destroy". There are few guitar solos like that where you can just feel the raw energy of the band; the distortion, the shred, Iggy screaming, its careful progression, its explosion into chaos at the tail end. A perfect "punk" song with a perfect guitar solo.
- madcaps1980, on 07/17/2008, -6/+1Dugg for Comfy Numb being on the list!!
- Serphyas, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1"Comfy Numb?!" I spit on your shoes, sir!
- Olfster, on 07/17/2008, -3/+17Eruption
- Tyrghast, on 07/17/2008, -4/+9Killer Queen, by Queen, takes the cake. Everything Queen did was amazing, including the Highlander soundtrack!!!!
- Trots, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2EVERYTHING Queen did?
- hamdogger, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Pretty much. Oh, and don't forget Flash!
- Loxias, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Thats right, EVERYTHING, including the Flash Gordon soundtrack.
Sarcasm aside, Queen ***** rocks. - dsmx, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1Queen rocks yet only 1 song has ever made it onto any game soundtrack.
- eawgoalie, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I want to ride my bicycle
- Trots, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2EVERYTHING Queen did?
- KyjL, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2aaaaand some of these were in Guitar Hero or are currently in Rock Band.
- moo113, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5Can't disagree with Queen or Floyd, normally I hate these things. Dugg.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 07/17/2008, -2/+9No "Like a Hurricane" by Neil Young?
- tumatakuru, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Cortez the Killer slaughters everyone else on the list.
- remo2012, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1The Swung Guitar by far!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBuxzPj-8NA&e - supernuke, on 07/17/2008, -0/+8How about some Funkadelic? Maggot Brain? One Nation Under a Groove? Come on.
- gaqua, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Everyone forgets about George Clinton when they talk about influential musicians - but all you have to do is realize that every #1 hit Will Smith ever had was laid down on a Parliament/Funkadelic bass line that was sampled. Hell, a lot of great hip-hop, rap, and soul songs have influence from George Clinton. And what's more, some of the solos in those songs are amazing.
- daflo, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I agree, the solo in Maggot Brain is truly epic, especially in the live version featured as a bonus on One Nation Under A Groove.
Nevertheless, let's not forget that the lead guitar on Maggot Brain is actually played by Eddie Hazel, not George Clinton (But I do agree that Clinton deserves much more praise than he gets)

- kingjoey52a, on 07/17/2008, -3/+4Play Freebird!
- dsmx, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1They're just mocking you, they don't really want you to play it.
- BelatedHero, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5One glaring omission: Duane Allman's solo on Little Wing from the Derek and The Dominos album Layla.
- jugglingjon, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2You just made that up, didn't you?
- LowRentDiggs, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I was prepared to be self-righteous but it's a pretty good list. I would probably put the Clapton/Allman dual solo at the end of Layla at 15. I haven't listened to Slipknot/Help on the Way in a long time. Gonna have to find a good version on archive.org.
- Puisapres, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Um, where's "Layla"? (Which also had a great *piano* solo, too.)
- BillDoor, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2You mean where is ever track on the album !!!
- schavira, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5'Marquee Moon' needs to be number 1, that or 'Like a Hurricane' by Neil Young, which isn't even on the list. 'Hey Hey, My My' merits mention too. Jimmy Page pulled off way better solos than Stairway. 'Since I've Been Loving You', anyone? And I love the Ramones, just they don't deserve to be here.
- Stonekeeper, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I agree!
The Song Remains the Same is amazing and the creativity of the guitar throught the song is jaw dropping. Any aspiring guitarists should watch this and see what's possible (and proving that good bands are better live than they are recorded):

WARNING: Awesomeness Alert.- schavira, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Might as well post this too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89yw7wqoaio - Stonekeeper, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I prefer the one off the video better. That version is slightly different.
- schavira, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Might as well post this too.
- Stonekeeper, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I agree!
- hiPpymIck, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4something from Robin Trower Live
..some ppl think hes a Hendrix clone but - if you listen - he isnt - vinceislegend, on 07/17/2008, -3/+3Buried as inaccurate.
You can't make this list and just not include Free Bird. - LanceStallion, on 07/17/2008, -4/+2Not a bad list..."Over The River And Far Away" by Led Zeppelin should get an Honorable Mention.
- heat0, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4You mean "Over The Hills and Far Away", right?
- superman787, on 07/17/2008, -2/+2rofl, fail at a comment, it's "Over The Hills and Far Away" smarts
- LanceStallion, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Sweet Jesus I don't believe I did that...I'm brain dead...
- Hieronymus1, on 07/17/2008, -2/+8It's not a complete '70s guitar solo list without "Layla" or "Freebird" - period!
I won't argue with what *is* on the list, but those are *glaring* omissions. - LorcanFaol, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5This is a bad list. There are some good picks on there, but few of these are the best, most impressive, most memorable or most finely crafted solos of the 70's. And the ***** Ramones? Come on. I love the Ramones, but I'm sorry, The Ramones never played one of the best solos of the 1970's (you can't call them solos, anyway), nor did they write any of the best riffs of the 1970's. Any solos list that has The Ramones on it is not to be taken seriously. A lot of great ones were left off which could have replaced the ones that don't belong there.
- userperson, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3Got to love the quintessential Punk statement by the Ramones. "You want a solo? well here's your solo."
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - Grummond, on 07/17/2008, -2/+1http://youtube.com/watch?v=ylr2D4Pwn58
Belongs on the list (skip to 2:17 for the solo)
At least put ONE Steely Dan tune on the list, for gods sake. - Mjeacoma, on 07/17/2008, -2/+2No Black Diamond? ugh - Guitar Hero and whatnot is ruining the true love and interest of learning music - sorry to sound bitter - I love my MOH4 but this isn't my bag.....
- Mikhail101, on 07/17/2008, -1/+13Wow what a stupid list, just taking big classic rock songs. Ever heard the solo by Steve Howe in Starshiptrooper on Yes's yes song albums, Steve Hacket's solo on Fly on a Windshield with Genesis. Wheres the Deep Purple, Rush???
Buried!!!!- bubba9999, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Wow - Hacket and Howe in the same paragraph. You've outed yourself on digg, grandpa!
(p.s. - they rule!) - mooseofshadows, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I was seriously upset with the lack of "Lazy" or "Highway star." Ritchie Blackmore had talent.
- bubba9999, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Wow - Hacket and Howe in the same paragraph. You've outed yourself on digg, grandpa!
- mikeevegas, on 07/17/2008, -1/+17No Clapton or Santana on the list. nice try.
- fenix61, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3Was the second page really necessary?
- NotOptium, on 07/17/2008, -2/+4Mahavishnu Orchestra's first seven albums were released in the 70s.
Zappa released 20 albums in the 70s.
Carlos Santana released 11.
(I could go on)
And they couldn't find a single song in any of these releases with a better guitar solo than Hotel California or The Ramones?
***** this list. - mrogi, on 07/17/2008, -5/+1The Top 10 on the list should be Jimi Hendrix solos. The other 4 don't really matter.
- PedleZelnip, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Given that Hendrix died in 1970 and his best work was in the 60's I don't think he counts for the list.
- dsmx, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2That's far to much logic and reason for the internet.
- PedleZelnip, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Given that Hendrix died in 1970 and his best work was in the 60's I don't think he counts for the list.
- lcrocker, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5Where's Steely Dan's "Reeling in the Years"?
- cutchyacokov, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1As much as I don't like Steely Dan, that solo belongs on this list.
- HotDogBun, on 07/17/2008, -3/+6What the ***** is wrong with people. Not even half the songs are on this list are good, and only 3 of them have any business being listed amongst the best guitar solos of an entire decade. Their are probably about 150,000 other guitar solos from that decade that would knock anything from the ramones or...television... who the ***** are they... right out of the water... and Frank Zappa would be responsible for several hundred of them.
the ramones suck
the ramones suck
the ramones suck - superman787, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2dugg for stairway to heaven solo...gives me a stiffy everytime i hear it
- bone625, on 07/17/2008, -2/+3"25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago should really be on there...
- NinjaNato, on 07/17/2008, -2/+3What!? Where's Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love? That lead break is legendary. 3:00 into http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN-_up5dSW0
- slash2314, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2The last Comfortably Numb solo always sends chills down my body. I especially love the Pulse live version of the solo. It definitely has to be my favorite.
- Loxias, on 07/17/2008, -4/+4Where's Little Wing on that list, ***** it where's *insert hendrix song of choice*?
- wyrdness, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Little Wing was 60's not 70's.
- esus4, on 07/17/2008, -0/+0Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn's version. It should be on the list.
- wyrdness, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Little Wing was 60's not 70's.
- magusat999, on 07/17/2008, -3/+1Where the hell was Jimi Hendrix? You can't have a top anything list of guitar solos of the 70's without Jimi!
- daflo, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Jimi died in 1970. And almost all of his well-known songs were from 1967-1968.
- WhoDoneIt, on 07/17/2008, -5/+0*****' right!
I'm not intelligent nor can I write proper sentence structures to make you think how stoked I am at the Zeppelin include. So bury me. - WhoDoneIt, on 07/17/2008, -2/+2Gary Moore should have made it.
