      As a sidenote: this guy sitting next to us was the Nerdiest MoFo I have ever seen. Kinda hefty, short sleeved white shirt, brown pants, thick glasses..check all boxes for nerdy. He knew the words to every to every song and sang his heart out! It was cool.

    In any case, I really miss Dr. Demento. As a kid in the late 70's, early 80's, I stayed up late every Sunday night, tuning in to that great show. Weird Al and many other owe their success to Dr. D.

My dad had a handful of albums on vinyl and (when I was old enough to possess anything of my own) taped the albums for me as they came out. Eventually I became old and savvy enough to get the albums and DVDs for him before he even knew they were out. When he died, my brother and I made sure there was a tasteful Weird Al song on the compilation we played at the funeral.

      Weird Al shaped my sense of humour. He is the greatest, aside from my dad of course.

I ran into two of my cousins at the show, so I traded seats with their parental unit so I could sit with the cousins. Well, during the song One More Minute, Al usually comes out in the audience and flails about with a fork and some underwear and such, and he ventured RIGHT DOWN THE GODDAMN ISLE where I WOULD HAVE been sitting had I not traded seats. I mean I could have touched him (and would have).

    Needless to say, my impressionable sixteen year old self was so disappointed I nearly cried. I'm older now, and wiser, but would still probably kill a cute animal to have Weird Al sit on my lap. (I exaggerate...only an ugly animal.)

I was disappointed, but then he performed Wanna B Ur Lovr, and made his way up the aisle and stood on the empty aisle seat in front of me. I have never wanted a 50 year old man's hips gyrating lewdly in my face, but I can't complain.

I regret not being more gung-ho about it, but even Weird Al's awesome presence can quiet the most outgoing sentiments! (wondering also if he would have recognized a reference like that to UHF)
