That's why you fight the same enemies in different colors all the time too -- like the various colors of skeletons in the Golden Axe series. They only had so much memory to store sprites in, but you could get extra mileage out of a sprite by "palette shifting" it -- using the same sprite with different colors.

I know that their beginnings were rooted in disdain for homosexuals but it's reached a point where the words can become placeholders. If I tell my friend to "stop being gay", he's probably doing nothing associated with homosexuality and the thought of literal gays doesn't cross my mind. Again, I know it seems insulting to allow a label to replace other terms like annoying or weird but the intention is still outside of the humans who are homosexual. In a way it's based in confusion. I respect gay men, get married, do whatever I don't care, it's not affecting mine or anyone elses life, but it's still weird to me. Honestly it's gross, yet I have the human right to contain my emotion without displacing it on others. It has nothing to do with anyone else. If you friend calls you at 3 in the morning and needs you to get him out of jail, you do it because they're your friend, but it still sucks. Nobody wants to wake up and deal with that, but it's ok to be upset with the situation without connecting that anger to your friend. We can choose to separate our feelings and projections.

          I know that this is no solace to homosexuals who are offended by certain terms. We must understand that this is partly how language works. Words, concrete symbols, creates an illusion of consistency. Remember when gay culturally meant happy? How many current Christmas carols would use the word gay?

          You can choose not to be offended by the direct, or indirect, connection to hatred without it excusing their actions. They're just words.

And color palettes don't work that way... what I mean is that after you drawn a cloud, if you switch the palette every other sprite sharing the same colors would have them changed. So you could only have bushes and clouds simultaneously. Necessarily these are 2 different sprites, using different colors.

Whenever you draw it, you translate it to the correct colors depending on what you are drawing. So you only switch the color translation table, not the sprite it self.
