        It was designed internally at Nintendo in Japan by Masayuki Uemura. Nintendo got their start in videogames in the arcades with Donkey Kong and few others and figured this would work well in homes if the price was right.

    • yellowswan, on 07/20/2008, -0/+24If you take into account the inflation from 1985 (NA release date for the Nintendo Entertainment System) to 2008, a 100$ NES purchase in 1985 would be equivalent to a 203.36$ purchase today. That final number is an even median between the Nintendo DS (150$) and the Nintendo Wii (250$)*.

      Considering the relative power of these systems (especially but not necessarily) in comparison to the original NES and it becomes apparent that the inflation is nothing to anguish over in this regard, as Nintendo has been fairly consistent with pricing for over two decades… this can not be said for its competitors, however.

      *Calculated using Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers to measure the purchasing power of the dollar over time.
