- louiebaur, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6Yea its pretty funny that he is laughing when they giving his toe nails a scalpel trim.
- ZeeZee2k, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I had the same surgery when i was in high school. It was quick and painless, I was laying down and never bothered to watch the surgey. So this is how they do it.
- Mswldflwr, on 06/28/2008, -0/+35Not to say that that wasn't fun, it really was, but the entertainment value could have risen exponentially if a camera had been on his face as well.
- AmyVernon, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4you are totally right!

- freyaXgefn, on 06/28/2008, -0/+16i had this exact same surgery on both of my big toes. it is surprisingly painless and quick. the strange part is when they are digging around inside your toe with a giant needle.
- zorplex, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Same here. I have rather thin nails and they always became ingrown in the past. I had them "fixed" but I am still having problems with them even today. There was another option where they would treat the nail bed with chemicals to stop the nail from growing back on the sides. I didn't have this done as I thought it might make my nails look awkward when they grew back in and am now regretting it.
- geobay, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2That chemical does cause them to grow back strange, and that's if it even works at all.
I've had this done four times and once you get past the shot....it's just fine. - Stroggoth, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I've had all three kinds of surgery (scalpel trim, chemical and laser), and the best and PERMANENT solution was to use CO2 laser. It cooks the nailbed dead. They also used the chemical after to ensure that absolutely no nail would come back.
It worked, nails are great. The only downside is that during the freezing process, they crippled some nerves in my toe that make it hard to bend now. This can happen with any kind of needles near nerves, but it doesn't affect anything. For the record, I am somewhat immune to the freezing agent, and it hurt like the end of the world.
- geobay, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2That chemical does cause them to grow back strange, and that's if it even works at all.
- obliviousfool, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3How much was it? Did your insurance cover it?
- TannerPwnz, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3It's like 50$
- obliviousfool, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1No joke? I've put mine off for years.
- Pake, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Same here and mine didn't bother me a bit, even though I hate needles and everything else about the concept.
- Corr0sive, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2I do a sorta the same thing about once ever month or month and a half. i dont take out anywhere close to that much toenail, just a small sliver of nail on the left and right side of the nail on both toes. Hurts like a bitch for a day or 2 then no more hurt from the ingrown until the next time i have to cut.

- fuzzybeard, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I award you the following:
- Vzylexy, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3I had it done twice when I was in my early teens. The first time was completely painless, I actually watched the entire time like the guy in the video. The second time however, was in a different hospital and that ***** hurt like nobodies business, I told the damn person working on my toe that they didn't numb my toe sufficiently nor did they put that rubber band around the toe. *****' sadists.
- qwertydvorak, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1the difference in pain can be a difference in how infected it is. i have had this done a couple times and the second they killed the bed on the sides which stopped it from happening. if it is really infected at the time they do it, it is VERY painful because the local doen't work well.
- Tunafishjoe, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I had it done too. The most painful part was when they injected the Novocain.
- zorplex, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Same here. I have rather thin nails and they always became ingrown in the past. I had them "fixed" but I am still having problems with them even today. - rainfosys, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Wow that is funny that he is laughing alot during the surgery. That is pretty gross when they remove those parts of his toenails.
- DeathWish808, on 06/28/2008, -1/+10Remove toe. Problem solved.

- AlanFang, on 06/28/2008, -0/+16*cringe*
- TannerPwnz, on 06/28/2008, -0/+11I've had 3 of those nasty buggers on one toe. At different times, of course. They hurt like a bitch, but the operation feels like nothing but pokes and prods. They're not supposed to come back after the first operation, but I guess I'm extremely unlucky.
- Tunafishjoe, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I had two on my right and one on my left. After that they finally permanently killed that side of the toe-nail.
- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -0/+24...i shouldn't have been eating...
- 33PercentGod, on 06/28/2008, -1/+10I've had both my big toenails removed. They pulled the entire nail off and then put acid on a q-tip and stuck that in the corners of my toe so basically the exposed part of my toe had the nail on it and not the edges so it can't grow in.
One toenail grew back normally, the other is kind of hard flesh type stuff.
My favorite part is when they put the numbing agent in my toe. Used a needle so long they put it in the top of my toe and I could feel it almost poking out the back. My toe looked like a giant balloon.- Laminarcissus, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4Are you sure this was a real doctor? Were you in a lawn chair in the back of a U-Haul van?
- 33PercentGod, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2Actually,it was a foot specialist.
- fuzzybeard, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Serious question. Can the toenail be completely & permanently removed?
- 33PercentGod, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Well,mine was unintentionally. Like I said, they were only supposed to put the acid stuff in the corners of each toe UNDER the skin where's it not visible (for cosmetic purposes) so the nail couldnt grow in,but i'd still have a nail. Somehow on my right toe I guess the stuff got all on top so now it's just like hardened skin,no nail or anything.
- Laminarcissus, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4Are you sure this was a real doctor? Were you in a lawn chair in the back of a U-Haul van?
- camintmier, on 06/28/2008, -4/+1I was waiting for a "Whoops. I guess you won't have to worry about that toe nail any more, because I just cut the entire toe off."

I've had this surgery done, but this is definitely not front page material. From the description: "This is pretty damn funny if you like shots, blood and nasty toes." ok, ya, that's not me. buried - mistergraves, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2pro skateboarder. why did i get a negative 4 comment diggeration because i said i smoked with this guy a long time ago? he also has a pipe made from a deer antler. gross. nice guy though.

Hmm I'll lay back..
- koft, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3This is why I'm careful about how I cut my toenails.
- Wootstapler, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6There is no way to prepare for the pain of a numbing shot going into your toe.
- geobay, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2No kidding....I've had my nuts cut open and that was pleasant compared to the big needle in the toe.
- ep53, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Allways before i go to the dentist i smoke a joint and a couple of bowls. Im so high that he could be sawing my face off and i wouldn't feel it. I dont even feeling the needle that he uses to numb my mouth.
- geobay, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2No kidding....I've had my nuts cut open and that was pleasant compared to the big needle in the toe.
- AriaGloris, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5I've had the same thing done - It didn't hurt but god damn I hate seeing my own body cut and not feeling anything, I think thats what freeked me out the most. :S
- ancientdinko, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4what a pussy..I let my dog chew my broken toenails

Opps there it goess ...No you see it now you don't :P - bartofdahammer, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2I had my one big toe nail taken out, and it was *****, it looked "normal" from above, as in it was flush with my toe, but the amount that had grown inside made it turn it a horseshoe when it was taken out.
- lolmacs, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Hahah I remember this same thing when I had an ingrown toenail. The needle was HUGEEE but I didn't feel a thing unlike this guy who was freaking out the whole time.
- mistergraves, on 06/28/2008, -12/+8i smoked weed with this guy 15 years ago which makes me pretty cool. good skateboarder.
- PL3NTY, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1I had that done to my right big toe nail about a month ago
- dracostimpy, on 06/28/2008, -5/+5Great... now I'm gonna have shooting ghost pains in my toes. The worst part for me was the needle scraping against bone when they were shooting me up. My toes will NEVER forget that *****; it was their own mini-9/11.
- aTTicus78, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1I had something similar to this done when I was 12. My toe nails weren't that bad! But I had ingrown toe nails that were pretty sore when I walked and I couldn't cut them out myself. The local injections into the nerves hurt like a son-of-a-bitch and was the worst of the procedure by far. After I was numbed my toes felt the size of balloons as the doctor poked, stabbed, and cut like going to work in a torture chamber and I felt nothing.
I never want to go through that again. - santa7, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1You know I was considering getting my nail cut down due to a reoccurring ingrown toenail, but man that looks bad
- exhale, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I did this not too long ago, and I didn't feel a thing. Anesthesia ftw.
- goddessophia, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1The nail beds on my big toes are actually curved (like a rainbow) and that is what causes them to grow into the sides of my toes... with proper maintenance they shouldn't get embedded so deep into your toe or enough to cause infection. When I was younger and was in dance I had bigger problems because of the demands of dancing. Ballet tears your feet up pretty badly and I took hip hop dance in high school and we did point in a break dancing rehearsal once and it jammed my toe nail back so far that it popped off from my nail bed, BUT THE EDGES WERE EMBEDDED INTO THE SIDES it was so gross. I went to the doctor and he wanted to pull it out manually and I just went home and took a hot bubble bath and pulled it out alone.
Oh, yeah, hot water before cutting your nails makes the nail more pliable and the skin softer.
Believe it or not podiatry is SOOOO INCREDIBLY BLOODY! When I did my rotation in surgery I was shocked as to how much your big toe can bleed! I guess its gravity!
- Reclaim3r, on 06/28/2008, -2/+15I had the exact same surgery twice... Its a hella of a good time. Before the actual surgery though, I tried my hand at toe surgery. Here are my attempts:
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/562/0424071831o ...
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/9982/0424071817 ...
I almost blacked out while doing it because of the pain.- BananaGrabber, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5I did that too! It's not a good idea because you're only cutting off the top half so all the pressure gets transferred to the bottom half, making it dig into your flesh more.
- mrsanon, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5You sick bastard.
- ElGanyan, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Ok, I can't watch that. I had that done to my left toe many years back. Unfortunately the doctor didn't remove the cuticle so it eventually grew back just the same. Now I have to be vigilant and routinely dig my toenail out of the corner lest I have to go back and go through that all over again....
- mark076h, on 06/28/2008, -2/+2thats weak i have had the entire toe nail taken off,
- antdude, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Reminds me of Heroes' Claire cutting her toe off. :O
- jaysdude, on 06/28/2008, -7/+2Front Page??? More and more noobish digg users........... *another one bites the dust*
- Seemefearme, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4Had the same exact surgery, except my doctor didn't give me nearly enough numbing shots.
- wolfdog1, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I've had an ingrown toenail before. Got removed. I didnt handle it well lol. That friggin needle made my toe feel like it was about to explode!
What's worse is that a part of the overhead lamp thing they used crashed down onto my head.... knocking me out completely. Which I think was amazing cuz I was SO INCREDIBLY sore after.
I still get ingrown toenails to this day :'( on well. ya cant win 'em all right? - Bozzer85, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4I had to have that done before when I was about 14. Wasnt that much blood but I had a really badass ingrown nail and when you walk or kick a ball or anything like that it hurts like no other.
- Gee1004, on 06/28/2008, -3/+1Great for all the foot fetish people out there.
- sherbertbones, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Ahhh ingrown toenails, I've had it done about 7 times. The first 6 times were hell, because the podiatrist I went to is a ***** idiot. Then I went to another one and I didn't feel a thing...if you're going to have this done, find a doctor who uses the airpump thing to make your toe numb before the needles. Having 3 needles shoved in your toe without anything is basically torture.
If you keep having it happen, ask your podiatrist (when it's not infected) to give you the acid treatment, which stops the nail from going on one side. I only have one side done, and the other has routinely given me problems. I'm surprised so many have had it done.- GarrettB, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I have to get mine done :( I am scared.
- sherbertbones, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1The needles are the worst part, then just read a magazine to cover up the operation. It's painless after that. Ask your doctor if he uses an airgun of sorts...I forgot what it's called, it shoots air at your toe which feels like a rubber band snap then that part wells up, then they put the needle thru that and you don't feel it. If you're in the Bay Area, I can give you the name of my podiatrist.
- GarrettB, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I have to get mine done :( I am scared.
- Downwritemad, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Shoot it in HD, then maybe I'll think it's gross.
- dalos, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2just buy some HD Glasses
- Suzuka09, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Well, its not as bad as Tom Green and his testicular cancer surgery...
- petkata, on 06/28/2008, -1/+0what the ***** is that...
- GamerVer05, on 06/28/2008, -1/+140 seconds in, I said ***** it I cant go on. ***** that was nasty
- nedy78, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Thank you, that will $2000 dollars please.
- macbookhair, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1what are you talking about? When I had it done and have the acid applied, it only cost $10 (insurance deductible)
- nedy78, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2The charge she probably bills insurance, for the lidocaine, scalpel, sutures, wrap etc.... Not everybody has insurance. $2000 was an exaggeration, more like $800.
- macbookhair, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2no way... it is done in a small little office... not even 100 bucks without insurance... the whole operation is no more than 10 minutes...
- nedy78, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I'm an E.R doc, for my time alone I bill $200 dollars just to see me. You have the triage nurse, well that depends on the hospital or clinic, but there is a nurse that tends to you while you are there, and once again the equipment. I'm not trying to argue man, it's the truth, sad but true. I'll give you $450 to $500, but probably not much lower. The point I was trying to make is for a relatively minor outpatient procedure, the cost can be ridiculous, I know. Unless of course you have insurance which you still pay for one way or another.
- nedy78, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1This doesn't show the cost of ingrown toenail removal, but the link that google pulls up mentions it.

- macbookhair, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1what are you talking about? When I had it done and have the acid applied, it only cost $10 (insurance deductible)
- macbookhair, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I have had this done to both of my toes. First time I had it done it fixed it for a while but it happened again... so they applied the acid to my toe so it doesn't grow back.
It really doesn't make your toenail look any different... no one knows that part of my toenail is missing on the side.- goddessophia, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Everyone has a different outcome. I have lost both of my big toe nails more than once each and fortunately they have grown back normally but I have seen people who loose a toe nail and it never grows to the full or normal size and it gets thicker or coarse. We used to call one of friend's toe nail the peanut because it never grew any bigger than half the size of his nail bed and it was between 1/4 - 1/2 cm thick. He went to the nail shop and had a pedicure once and they filed it down to a more attractive width and it grew back to the unnatural thickness.
- carbbomb, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I did that on Tuesday to a pt. Termed Partial Nail Avulsion or also called an Incision and Drainage procedure. Im actually suprised there was so much blood especially with the use of the digitial tournquet. The podiatrist was either being very traumatic or Mr Patch has a really vascualrized nail bed. Probably could have avoided that much bleeding if she freed the nail from the bed with a hemostat first before cutting it. Short healing time and a pretty common procedure.
