      A pirate has pretty loosely defined characteristics too. You can be a big fat raping drunk pirate (the main diggers choice)
      or you could be one of those stealthy ghey wirey pirates that crawls up your leg with a knife in their teeth.

      Ninjas are about honour and *****, a pirate is about living a life of excess, and who these days doesn't see that as a worthwhile pursuit. Being a ninja is like afrosamurai... remember that? do you want people coming after you for a stupid headband, or do you wanna party with your buddies on a big crazy boat, going from land to land, drinkin, smokin, piliging and lets not forget the rapings... lol

Don't gotta wash up, eat right or exercise and while ninjas can put people to sleep or kill em and then have sex with them (or just impress girls with their fit bodies). As a pirate, eventually everyone is going to have gay sex. And gay sex rules. Especially when it's like 50 men all living together with lots of sexual tension and the only way they get a woman is if they kidnap her in the high seas, so for like 2 years there are no women and eventually everyone gets a little drunk and starts thinking.. 'a mouth is a mouth' and 'it's called a poop deck for a reason' and 'let the wannabe pirates who decided to become a pirate on some random questionnaire website before they thought it all through clean up the messy details.' In conclusion, for lots of sweaty gay sex with hairy, unwashed, and overfed pirates, choose pirates! YARRR WHO USED THE LAST OF THE PREPARATION H. Oh and don't forget what happens when the British Navy captures your ship... what do you think they mean by 'walk the plank.'

      Nope, you're just not thinking in an abstract enough way. The reward in that case is the entertainment, and the idea that their vote influenced the outcome of the competition. There's also the reward of the winner and the runners-up releasing CDs. American Idol actually offers a lot in return to the voter base.

      Not to mention the professor's specific statement was that it had to be an internet poll.

I don't drink, I don't particularly enjoy being out at sea, and the prospect of hanging out with big fat hairy guys for most of my waking hours doesn't appeal to me. Some of the pillaging I might enjoy though.
