Lego Airbus A380 Is Biggest Lego Airplane in the World
gizmodo.com — Behold the biggest Lego airplane in the world, made after the largest passenger airplane in the world, the Airbus A380. Made at a 1:25 scale-9.5-foot long, 10.5-foot wingspan, 3.2-foot tall—the Lego A380 uses 220 pounds (100kg) of bricks.

- afftools, on 06/21/2008, -1/+48This is pretty awesome! They did a great job on both the life-like appearance and the scale compared to Lego people.
- mrbeagle, on 06/21/2008, -6/+1But will it fly?
- ufia, on 06/21/2008, -0/+12Oh it can fly just fine, the problem is landing it.
- themastersb, on 06/22/2008, -1/+3Screw that. Lets see if it blends.
- ufia, on 06/21/2008, -0/+12Oh it can fly just fine, the problem is landing it.
- thatsmyaibo, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4I just wish they had these for sale to the public. I bought the LEGO version of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and it's awesome.
- cawpin, on 06/21/2008, -7/+1There's only one problem with the model. Singapore Air canceled their order for A380s.
- cyberdork, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4And there's one problem with your comment. It's *****. Singapore Airlines has already received 3 A380. And has 7 more on order and an option on 15 more.
- sanman, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5But Lego Airbus is only that big because it's unfairly subsidized by plastic money from the EU.
- screamokid, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1mmhhmm im gonna pretend i understand what you said
- mrbeagle, on 06/21/2008, -6/+1But will it fly?
- irfanmp, on 06/21/2008, -2/+44I just hope the LEGO Death Star doesn't go the same route as this...
- amanilaenvelope, on 06/21/2008, -0/+33Doesn't? pretty sure you mean DOES right? Who doesn't want the ultimate power in the universe?Made from LEGO's?!! From LEGO's, i ask you!!!
- ViralMonkey, on 06/21/2008, -1/+11LEGO's what?
- Millsee, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Don't be so proud of this technological terror you've constructed...
- midriscoll09, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1omg!
- bluechipps, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1i think he means that he hopes it doesn't get the life-size ratio to the lego peoples as this plane achieved, for then it would be well, very big
- t4ll3y, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7At a 1:25 radio, that trench run will be IMPOSSIBLE. I used to bullseye womp rats in my t-16 back home, but COME ON, that's a 20 cm exhaust port.
- amanilaenvelope, on 06/21/2008, -0/+33Doesn't? pretty sure you mean DOES right? Who doesn't want the ultimate power in the universe?Made from LEGO's?!! From LEGO's, i ask you!!!
- yokozuka, on 06/21/2008, -0/+25When I saw this parked in the entrance of Legoland, I couldn't believe the scale of it. In the video it doesn't look as huge as it is. Great model.
- mentol, on 06/21/2008, -1/+45I demand to know how much does it cost to have my own :) ?
- yokozuka, on 06/21/2008, -0/+67Only in pieces you are looking at a $12,000 price tag on this. And that's just the basic ones, without taking into account the engines (which are electrically powered) and LEDs.
And on top of that, add the 600 hours of labor by a team of Lego professional builders (or a six months of your life :-)
It's out of my budget, that's for sure.- InSectWar, on 06/21/2008, -0/+29I'll take two.
- luferbu, on 06/21/2008, -5/+0You two don't know what you're talking about
- fLUx1337, on 06/22/2008, -0/+14Your going to crash them into each other, aren't you?
- sienar, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3Now that would be great fun
- fLUx1337, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2What about those cheap knockoff bricks? Is that a big saving?
- dantheman733, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4megablocks suck
- InSectWar, on 06/21/2008, -0/+29I'll take two.
- dellegazze, on 06/22/2008, -0/+8if you have to ask for the price, you can't afford it.
- yokozuka, on 06/21/2008, -0/+67Only in pieces you are looking at a $12,000 price tag on this. And that's just the basic ones, without taking into account the engines (which are electrically powered) and LEDs.
- myocnews, on 06/21/2008, -0/+11Way cool
- ToeCracker, on 06/21/2008, -1/+13I look back to when I was a kid and having lego . . . wow times have changed. The plane looks amazing.
- raidereagle13, on 06/21/2008, -0/+16i was just waitin for one of those dudes to fly through the engine! very realistic
- Terr01, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I was worried about those guys in brown too as they added the sound affects. But don't worry, odds are they'll both be fine.
We can rebuild them. We have the technology. We can make them better than they were. Better...taller...blockier.
- Terr01, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I was worried about those guys in brown too as they added the sound affects. But don't worry, odds are they'll both be fine.
- AManWithNoName, on 06/21/2008, -2/+55Gizmodo seems to concentrate more and more on Legos everyday.
- yokozuka, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5It's because I've been at their headquarters at the beginning of the week. The big features—like a video in the Lego secret vault, where all the sets ever made are stored, like new, or the Lego cathedrals, the storage areas with billions of pieces in them, managed by giant robots, Matrix-style—are all hitting next week.
- insanebrain, on 06/21/2008, -2/+1Yeah. . they are thinking about renaming themselves to Gizlego.
- koick, on 06/21/2008, -3/+1Cuz they get Lego exclusives! They are teh bombz.
http://digg.com/gadgets/3800_Piece_Death_Star_Dior ... - WildTang3nt, on 06/21/2008, -2/+2Personally, I'm all for it, LEGO is the bomb!
- gofalcons, on 06/21/2008, -12/+2Somebody had way too much time on their hands!
- DillonHinson, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7No, somebody has an awesome job!
- Sephaa, on 06/21/2008, -0/+10Makes the death star look like a peanut.
- firex726, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Thats no peanut!
- BoMEpsilon, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5It's a moon?
- screamokid, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1its the sphere O fear get it right
- firex726, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Thats no peanut!
- adam07, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Man I would have loved that when I was a little kid.
- Garlik, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I'd love it right now
- screamokid, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1yah.... i dont, i love legos now and back then but back then, idk maybe 45 hours into it and it would be like monopoly, flip the thing over and yell "SCREW YOU GRANDMA!!"
- Tolzmaniac, on 06/21/2008, -0/+82It would have been nice if there was something in the video to compare the plane's size to, other than Lego people.
- Avaseal, on 06/21/2008, -6/+2Last time I checked there was only one size of normal Lego folk; about the size of a half-dollar coin. So use that as your approximate unit of measurement
PS. The audio is damn annoying
- Avaseal, on 06/21/2008, -6/+2Last time I checked there was only one size of normal Lego folk; about the size of a half-dollar coin. So use that as your approximate unit of measurement
- trixterIreland, on 06/21/2008, -9/+3but can it fly and is it green?
- mikee1680, on 06/21/2008, -4/+3I'd like to go on that!
- adudley, on 06/21/2008, -9/+4I wish they would have provided some scale for this!
Nice set!- leonardoty, on 06/21/2008, -1/+81:25 scale
Says so right in the caption.
Stupid.- SatNav, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3not much help if you don't know the dimensions of the subject, and even if you do, probably still quite hard to visualise.
I think he meant he wished there were something else in the video to compare it to, such as a person. Which I also wished.- KMartSheriff, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I did too. 1:25 means jack ***** to me. I was hoping to see someone's hand next to it or something.
- leonardoty, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Good point. I didn't think of that.
Sorry for being so harsh.
- SatNav, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3not much help if you don't know the dimensions of the subject, and even if you do, probably still quite hard to visualise.
- leonardoty, on 06/21/2008, -1/+81:25 scale
- mwaleed86, on 06/21/2008, -9/+3If it doesnt fly,it doesnt deserve to be called a 'PLANE'!!
- hexdump, on 06/21/2008, -0/+10The ground crew is is clearly at risk of getting sucked into the engines...
- cslawren, on 06/21/2008, -3/+27incredible worksmanship, but as a Boeing shareholder, I have to interject with my obligatory "airbus piece of sh*t"
- Jonez176, on 06/21/2008, -4/+2220 lbs.. Let's see if it flies.
- mabhatter, on 06/22/2008, -1/+3has the REAL Airbus actually flown yet.. I bet the lego version got completed on time and under budget!!!!
- Spoomeister, on 06/21/2008, -1/+27And it probably flies as reliably on-schedule as the real thing.
- gplpark92, on 06/21/2008, -6/+4LOL +1
- PataGoRica, on 06/21/2008, -8/+3dugg for awesome sound
- elleeldritch, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2This is ridiculous. I was never into legos but they still amaze me nonetheless. Even the moving engines, geez.
- q1006662, on 06/21/2008, -0/+45Made 2x dorkier by adding the engine sounds
- yokozuka, on 06/21/2008, -1/+11Actually, you can hear the same jet engine sound on location, but it was too windy and the camera was getting a lot of noise. That's why I replaced the original soundtrack with a clear jet engine noise.
- Ex3poo, on 06/21/2008, -0/+6Please Mommy?
- GordonClass, on 06/21/2008, -2/+2600 hours to build, thats almost a 1/3 of a year at 40 hrs a week.
- itsthebrod, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Yeah, if one person was working on it... Which they weren't.
- azizrulez, on 06/21/2008, -2/+11this will literally make you ***** bricks,
a 100 kg bricks in total - thelastwarrior, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I would go crazy after the first 2 hours of building it.
- twishart, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1You *might* get one of the engines put together by then...
- Harabeck, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5I wanna be a professional lego builder =-(
- pjpark, on 06/21/2008, -0/+9The first model was delivered 12 days late.
- dmkirt, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3:O
- XternalHD, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4Just when I thought I saw every Lego creation possible, something new ruins my *****.
- Gsicht, on 06/21/2008, -0/+31Dear playmobil-kids:
suck it.
Sincerely,
The LEGO-kids- Verdanic, on 06/21/2008, -2/+14Who ever ADMITTED to being one of 'them'? They're the same level as mega blocks.
- KMartSheriff, on 06/21/2008, -0/+9And if you use Megablocks, you might as well be a terrorist.
- screamokid, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1or 4, either way your f*cking with everyone ruining their day
- Verdanic, on 06/21/2008, -2/+14Who ever ADMITTED to being one of 'them'? They're the same level as mega blocks.
- PabloIV, on 06/21/2008, -1/+20Dugg for using lego Millenium Falcons as a standardized reference
- audiomodder, on 06/21/2008, -2/+8HOLY CRAP THERE'S PROFESSIONAL LEGOLAND MODEL BUILDERS?!?!?!?!?! NEW DREAM JOB FTW!
- Lyght, on 06/21/2008, -0/+11No, they let small, inexperienced children build the models in Legoland.
- pigducksheep, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1ah, of course.
- Lyght, on 06/21/2008, -0/+11No, they let small, inexperienced children build the models in Legoland.
- Alyssah, on 06/21/2008, -3/+0SHWEET!
- Irrenhaus, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Wow that looks cool, I play with Lego all the time when I was a kid.
But they should increase the Anti-aisling to at least 16X to smooth the edges a bit...LOL - myhandleondigg, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I knew there was going to be some Lego rebuttal when the last article said the death star was the coolest one..
- terencec, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1so is it available for the public as a set? but it would certainly be tough hauling 220lbs of bricks home...
- JamesMatt, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3yeaaaaaaaaaaa......but does it fly?????????????????
- thespiff, on 06/21/2008, -4/+1Bah, 10 feet long? not impressed.
- zeyad, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2that's what she said.
- dsmx, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6That's the only A380 in the world that was delivered on time and on budget.
- koolgiy, on 06/21/2008, -2/+1I can just see American Airlines ordering 50 of these because they think they're fuel efficient.
And then charging $30 for a 'brick fee'. - stoikiometry, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1"professional Legoland model builder"
What a cool job. I wonder how much they get paid.- asus2000, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Cool jobs don't pay well unless they're cool in that you have to have brains...
- goodkidyo, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3those 2 guys shouldn't stand so close to the engine. :o
- Plezops, on 06/22/2008, -2/+4"OM NOM NOM NOM" - Engine
- LavaWarrior, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Breaking news, a new Airline has been introduced today, and is said to be very affordable.
- krasht, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3Dugg for the A380 and the fact that I'll be a passenger in one in only 9 days. Not the Lego one, but a real one. I'm so excited.
- asus2000, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3Way to go.. Take pics..
- shagg187, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5Photoshopped. Look at the pixels!
- danomagnum, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Just stumbled on http://factory.lego.com/
you can design your own models. Wish it was like that when i was a kid.- luferbu, on 06/21/2008, -0/+0it was like that for some people back then, believe me
- walterseward, on 06/21/2008, -0/+0Love the creativity and thinking beyond normal. What the mind can conceive - we can do!
This is a great example of having a vision and then seeing the reality of that vision.
All things are possible. - phoenixm4, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Wow. I wish I could've done that as a kid.
