Man Pays Traffic Ticket with 27,000 Pennies
kndu.com — Tab Burke got a traffic ticket for speeding in a school zone. That's a $271.00 fine. When he went to the cashier's office in Benton County District Court, he had a suitcase containing more than 27,000 pennies. A court administrator says Burke dumped a bag full of pennies in the window for the clerk to count.

- hismove, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4that reminds me of the story of the guy that got a photo of his license plate in the mail along with a ticket from one of those intersection cameras... instead of returning a check, he sent in a picture of a check... and they sent him back a picture of handcuffs.
- Grova, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3It's legal tender. Money is money.
- chonuts, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but pennies suck, plain and simple. You can't even use them in most situations where change would be appropriate -- vending machines, toll booths, etc. And lots of small businesses won't accept large amounts of pennies unless they're wrapped. Boooooo pennies. BOOOO!
- guillebravo6, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1This is a great story, I would have done the same damn thing!
Racial profiling is terrible in the U.S. especially for people of color! Sad to say but hopefully Obama wins presidency and makes everyone shut the f#ck up- brycelb, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1You people have no shame. No matter what the topic is you can always find a way to salp your Obama bumper sticker on it.
- mikem94590, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Cool.
I know somewone who:
Went to BankA, and withdrew $250 in pennies.
Then unwrapped the pennies from their wrappers.
Went to BankB, and made the teller count the pennies to deposit them.
This is before the bank got a electronic counter. - rumblepup, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I would have done the same thing, if they were buggin' me. I thought there was (or is) a federal statute that says that all debtees(? good engrish?) must accept cash from a debtor, and if the dept.. (oh forget it) the person you owe money to doesn't accept it, there's an argument that you no longer owe that debt, or that HAVE to accept it. (freakin repetitive ain't ?) Pennies suck, but they are still are legal tender.
