- spyrochaete, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Religions don't deserve money and neither do the people who expose them. Freedom of religion is a literal term. Thank Anon by spreading the word.

- ligyron, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1If Anonymous is smart enough to hack into a computer system and leak these sacred documents, they're probably also smart enough to infect these files. I would be careful. How do you think they have the power to DDoS a server? Botnets containing thousands of infected computers
- tonaros, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4lol, you don't get it...
- spyrochaete, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I've downloaded all the files from yesterday and today. No viruses, and my firewall didn't complain about Adobe Reader or Word trying to connect to the internet. The files are safe, and they probably weren't even obtained by Anon. If you view the properties many of the files (not the contents but the files themselves) are over 10 years old. Most of this stuff is probably decades out of date.

- glasgowm, on 01/24/2008, -1/+14Yes, you're the only one.
Scientology has cost many people their lives. They constantly violate our free speech and charge their followers up to $400,000 over their life.
I don't see many things you could put up higher on the agenda than that. - chromerium, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3its exactly that attitude that has allowed the church to grow.

Happy End of Hubbard Day!!- OttawaMarcin, on 01/24/2008, -4/+1I read some of the documents last night and they are really good. Some of their axioms deserve more study. What is the purpose of revealing these documents -- to convert me to Scientology? Cause it's working.
- spyrochaete, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Keep reading and keep an open mind. I was very interested in yesterdays documents and read a good chunk of them. However, I read the content as much as the context. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I never knew what a cult was until I read some of this Scientology stuff yesterday. Self-affirming circular logic that is prolific for the sake of submerging needy, simple people in false dogma.
Scientology is a cult. They want your money and your obedience. They train their converts to deal with confrontation and to resist attempts to argue the logic of the beliefs. They hide their ridiculous tales from the public eye because they crumble under scrutiny.
I'm not about to tell another free person what and whom to believe, but I will encourage you to read between the lines. Remember, these are documents that Scientology doesn't want outsiders to read. Ask yourself, if this knowledge has the potential to improve people's lives what incentive do they have to keep them hidden?

- ChaosIncarnate, on 01/24/2008, -0/+16Not likely. Since they can't actually back up anything they say when faced with the fact the founder of their "religion" was in fact arrested for fraud and stole millions from the "church" they'll just do what they always do when they're stuck, sue everyone till people stop pointing out the obvious.
- mahlazor, on 01/24/2008, -0/+68Its been exposed for ages, so far only germany have banned scientology
germany is pretty hip to that cult stuff, something to do with what happened during the 1940s I think- ours, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12French government doesn't look kindly at cults either. But Germany hasn't banned Scientolog (and that's too bad). They actually inaugurated a huge brainwashing... hum I mean a "cultural center" in Berlin last year. In the UK, the London police chief actually made a welcoming speech at their inauguration of a new center couple of years ago... Talk about infiltration. Oh, lets not forget Hubbard's wife was part of the biggest infiltration of the US government in history. Getting in the IRS sure secured a sweet deal for them, like paying no taxes and digging dirt on enemies.
Keep it up Anon and stay safe.- MacParrot, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately it doesn't take much to be declared a religion and be free of paying taxes as an organization. Scientology as a basis for belief does not interest me at all and most of the people who take it up seem weak in certain areas of their lives. It will eventually blow up of its own accord like every other pyramid scam.
- Gutterpunk, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0"Unfortunately it doesn't take much to be declared a religion and be free of paying taxes as an organization". You might want to take another look on how the Scientologist church did it...

- lys3rgic, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Since the CoS is a registered religion, they get tax exempt status whenever they "donate" to the church. Maybe some of the members also do it for the tax laws? Can someone with legal knowledge please elaborate on this?

- MASTERPL, on 01/24/2008, -13/+6Why are you guys digging him down. If you had the slightest clue about what they believe, you'd hit that green thumb.
- yetAnotherCroc, on 01/24/2008, -7/+16well If you want to know what we believe you just have to ask. We dont keep stuff secret. Mind you a lot of the stuff on the net is not exactly true.
- asauterChicago, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6In fact they'll come to your house, knock on your door, and spend, plenty, plenty of time talking about the Mormon Church. :-P
- Shananra, on 01/24/2008, -2/+16Mormonism and Scientology are almost exact opposites. I've seen Mormons bring food and hot cocoa out to protestors in front of their events because the weather is cold. They are generally courteous, friendly, and honest regardless of your beliefs or attitude. True, not all of them practice what they preach, but try finding any of those virtues in a Scientologist.
The only people who would have any logical motivation to attack mormonism are people from other religions who are losing congregations. - unpolloloco, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8while mormons may have wacky beliefs, they dont try to hide their beliefs nor do they force people to pay in order to learn about them
- spyrochaete, on 01/24/2008, -4/+1.

- booshack, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1You put them on a scale from least rediculous to most, ie:

- booshack, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1You put them on a scale from least rediculous to most, ie:
- cyberdogg, on 01/24/2008, -11/+9Joseph Smith Junior and L Ron Hubbard are the brothers...approximately a century apart.
Both were professional ***** who invented religions to exploit the gullible to get rich. Hey, there's the Vatican in on the scam, too. - Tearlock, on 01/24/2008, -1/+22Mormon's don't try ask you to sign over your life savings, lock you up in dorms, or threaten and antagonize critics. If you disagree with our doctrines, then fine. But our methods are harmless. Also our humanitarian efforts are expansive and well organized. We do a lot of good for the less fortunate.
- babar77, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7That depends. I have cousins that are Mormon, and they are totally cool. We even joke about spiking the punch with caffeine at Mormon parties.
Then I know people that had Mormons track them down and constantly harass them for leaving the church using much of the same tactics of Scientology. So there are definitely sects within the Mormon community that are loony. I assume this is true with most religions.
The main difference with most religions and the non-religion organized crime ring of Scientology is that those illegal tactics are the exception within most religions, like the one bad apple in a barrel. Scientology is a whole barrel full of bad apples - *really* bad apples. We're all going to have people in this world that want to brainwash us and extort us and they are going to be in every group that is ever created by humans, but Scientology is a magnet for these types of loonies. - NYCTulanian, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3MORMONS, NOT MORMON'S
- babar77, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7That depends. I have cousins that are Mormon, and they are totally cool. We even joke about spiking the punch with caffeine at Mormon parties.
- asauterChicago, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10Oh, I've been around lots of Mormon's in my lifetime, I been to Mormon church for baptisms, for Christmas parties, just regular Sunday church plenty of times. Even though what they believe is well, a little crazy, the main difference is I've never been asked for money once. I've only been asked a few times about joining the Mormon church, and I've respectively declined and that was it. That's not the case in Scientology, you HAVE to pay to go to their church, and you HAVE to be member. It costs something like $500,000 to become a full member of the CoS. Plus they have dangerous beliefs like, if you criticize the church you can be killed, main stream medicine and psychologist are evil, not allowed to talk to people outside of the CoS etc. Mormons, eh, granted they Believe in the Book of Mormon, which reads like comedic satire (good for a chuckle, look it up), but you can go do the doctor, talk to other people outside the Mormon religion, live where you want to, you know, live a normal life. This is not the case with Scientology.

- spyrochaete, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3Scientologists aren't (or shouldn't be) punished for what they believe, but for what they do. No one should be persecuted for their beliefs. That's bigotry. - roflcopterdown, on 01/24/2008, -0/+24It isn't. Unless it's mandatory. There's a world of difference between voluntary donations and extortion.
- diggdiggerid, on 01/24/2008, -1/+0...but it's not mandatory. I'm not donating to the Church of Scientology because I choose not to be a member. If you voluntarily decide to join it, then it's not mandatory.
- roflcopterdown, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3They're not extorting money from US, they're extorting money from their members. Members do not have the option to not donate, and once you're a member you can't choose not to be without them turning every single incriminating and embarassing detail of your life that they've been recording against you. You can go ahead and choose not to donate, but if you don't you're fair game.

Well, granted, Church of C'thulhu is trying to get more space aliens TO earth, but that's not really comparable. - swaddict, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5It's not the donation which is disconcerting, it is the idea of bringing a planetary clearing. If you clear an area of land, it usually implies removing or destroying whatever is currently there.
- basselope, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1IMHO is isn't a whole lot different on the surface. As long as folks treat others with some common decency I don't really give a rat's backside what they believe. It's when I start seeing the same tired old events that lead to Jonestown, Waco, Spanish Inquisition, etc, etc... that's when I get my dander up.

- EricAnderton, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14Ya see, it's the "planetary clearing and a new civilization" part that really worries me.
Combine that with brainwashing and deep pockets and the possibilities defy the imagination. - kutateli, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Wow, sounds good. Where do I send my money?

- tonycomputerguy, on 01/24/2008, -13/+5How about the Jehovah's Witnesses next... pl0x? I know they are prolly not as evil as Scientology... but then again... Scientologists don't knock on my ***** door on Saturday at 9:00am either...
Oh yeah... ***** YOU TOM CRUISE!- grenden, on 01/24/2008, -9/+2Simple solution: do you own a gun? If so, the next time you're woken up by a knock on the door, bring your gun along, act fairly aggressive/paranoid, and try to intimidate the JWs. They will likely apologize, and say they had the wrong house, and then walk quickly away. They will not come back (if they have any brains), and will likely spread the word amongst their group that you are not to be ***** with.
If you don't own a gun, you can still act aggressive and paranoid, and tell them to get the ***** off your property or you'll go get your gun and teach them a lesson about knocking on your door. Tell them to watch out for landmines on their way back to the road, too.- fmaxwell, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10You cannot threaten someone's life with a gun just because you don't want to hear about their wacky religion. Well, actually you can -- but you'll probably end up in jail. I think that it's called "assault with a deadly weapon."
I'm sure that many wanna-be crimanal attorneys on here will be happy to pipe up with their own interpretations of what's legal and what's not, but I'd recommend, strongly, that anyone considering waving a gun with the intent to cause fear talk to a real attorney in advance.
If you want to upset the JWs, answer your door stark naked and invite them in to chat. Make no attempt to get dressed or cover up and tell them that you're a naturalist, so you'll just remain "unencumbered by clothing." Now that's probably legal since it's not indecent exposure if it's in your own home.- XIUgraag, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Awesome! Have to remember that one :D
- grenden, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Actually, it is indecent exposure to open your door (which I imagine is facing the street or your neighbors' windows) naked, and worse, many JWs bring their kids along with them--so you've just exposed yourself to minors, which adds a criminal sexual conduct involving a minor charge. Have fun being on the sex offenders registry.
However, it IS legal for you to have your own gun on your person in your own home, for instance, tucked in your belt. You can act aggressively without waving a gun around. For instance, people who may have no problem mouthing off to an unarmed security guard are less likely to do so to a guard with a gun on his belt.
But, how about just the old fashioned "get the ***** off my property", that usually works too.- fmaxwell, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1You are incorrect. Almost all "indecent exposure" laws refer to the person exposing themselves for sexual gratification in a public place. A person's home is not a public place and your neighbor catching a glimpse of you naked does not constitute indecent exposure. Nor are there laws making it illegal for someone to expose themselves to minors unless it is for sexual purposes. If there were such laws, women throughout the country would have been imprisoned for breastfeeding their children. Naturalists would be in prison as they, and their children, are often at gatherings where all people are nude, including beaches, retreats, etc.
If you answer the door with a gun in your belt and "act aggressively," then it is likely that a judge or jury would decide that the gun was there to intimidate -- especially when they talked to neighbors, pizza delivery people, drivers for UPS, FedEx, and the Postal Service, all of whom would say that you never answered their knock with a gun in tucked into your belt.
"Get the ***** off of my property" works great.

- Gutterpunk, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6I've been raised as a JW, (I left 10 years ago, never looked back) and what you describe there is the most asinine suggestion ever. The JW have a "do not disturb" list, as many city mendate it for door to door "salesman", and even if their city doesn't have one they will be more than happy not to bother you if you only ask them.
They are assigned whole territory to canvas, and usually have to finish it before going to another one (even if it takes more than one day), they will be more than happy to skip a house or two.
I didn't have the visit from the JW for 8 years now, and I only had to act like an human being and ask, not like a neanderthal with a gun.
And btw, the whole "The evil JW bring kids with them" issue is ridiculous. Kids actually likes it, and a little walking and fresh air is better than what most kids their age do with their saturday mornings. - roflcopterdown, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Keep a bowl of candy by your door. When the Jehovah's Witnesses knock, open the door, and give them pieces of candy. Wish them a Happy Halloween and close your door. Problem solved.

- protogenxl, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Don't Bring you gun door. That can get you charged with terroristic threats. What you should do is invite them in and ask if them mind if you do some routine cleaning while they talk, Then proceed to completely service your gun in front of them.
- Tearlock, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2If you want the JW's to leave you alone then stick a black thumbtack in the outside of your front door frame. They often leave thumbtacks of different colors on the outside of people's houses to color code them. I believe black means "stay away".
- amirman, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3when the mormon elders came to my place, i invited them in, offered them coca cola, we sat down and had a nice chat, while they showed me pictures of jesus and the native americans. they kept trying to convert me then and there, when they asked something to the effect of "so do you believe in this?" i just said "nope" and they eventually left. i told them to be careful and have a nice day.
- fmaxwell, on 01/27/2008, -0/+2So how did you get a Mormon to drink a beverage with caffeine in it?
- roflcopterdown, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3The JWs are similar to the Scientologists in a lot of ways, but these tactics aren't going to hurt the Watchtower Society. For the most part, they ignore the internet, save for their own official website and a few sites that expose them. The pulled a CoS move and shut down a site that held a database of embarassing quotes from old WTS publications claiming copyright infringement. Outside of that, they haven't really responded to most of the websites exposing their wrongdoing. Apostate JWs are free to roam on the internet, but JWs in good standing are warned to stay away from it.
To their credit, the JW's have stopped charging their members for the publications, and now run on a voluntary system. However, their newer model is just as bad. They demonize the education system and secular work force. Members are encouraged to work just enough to support themselves, but spend in some cases more than 40 hours a week going door to door. Rather than get money from their members by force, they guilt trip members into serfdom as they seek voluntary donations from people who accept magazines. Many are not strong enough to say no.

- lopla, on 01/24/2008, -33/+13Why all the hate towards 'scientology' and not towards 'christianity'? They are both total ***** cults yet it's so cool to hate on scientology. I'm Atheist and from my perspective scientology ain't got nuthin on xtianity NOTHIN!
- yetAnotherCroc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+20You must be new here. Hating on christians is a daily thing here so it doesnt get as much attention. Scientology on the other hand. It hasent been hated on as much historically but now digg is making up for lost time. Besides, most christian churces dont have handbooks detailing mind controll methods, and dont charge thousands of dollars for advancement in their religion. Compare the scientologists way of doing things to having to get the bible in installments that become increasingly expecive amid threats that the uninitiated might be harmed by reading the later, as yet not paid for, parts of it. Basically most churches are full of BS but scientology is one of those rare ones that abuse it to the extreme in order to extract exorbitant amounts of money from their followers, who then go into dept and are forced to work for the CoS, having to sign billion year contreacts and stuff.
- iainc, on 01/24/2008, -3/+7/sarcasm: Yeah, good luck with that mate. Nice to see you keeping it real!
Christianity is not a cancer; $cientology IS. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. - DNABeast, on 01/24/2008, -13/+3Ha! If you think the crimes of the Christian church don't measure up compared to Scientology let me instroduce you to a thing called the 14th centure, then the 15th 16th 17th, then the spanish inquizition, the crusades,. etc etc,. etc,.
- viruz, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3... and the 10th 11th and so on .. My ancestors were tortured and forced to convert or else.
- piesforyou, on 01/24/2008, -3/+9That's great!
Um, if only we lived in those times, we'd have a reason to hate them. - neverlookback75, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Don't worry, when Scientology is dead, we're heading right over to the Spanish Inquisition's website (www.whosyourgod.com) and tearing it down.
- llamagorama, on 01/24/2008, -3/+10Christianity may be *****, but it's free ***** that lets you talk to other people and decide for your self wether or not you want to be a part of the *****, instead of isolating you, brainwashing you and suing the pants off of everyone who says differently.
- viruz, on 01/24/2008, -7/+2I'm a heathen myself. spreading word of the cancer that christianity is will get you dugg down, I suspect there's a high chrisitian population on digg. So in conclusion, there's no point in trying to do it here.
- mangasm, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Read the other responses above you. There, now you know why people dig down people comparing Christianity to Scientology -- not just bashing Christianity on its own.
- ftx437, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1sooooo based on your thinking, every religion is a cult then..
- DCJoeDogaswell, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2pretty much
- lamuella, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7oh Jesus, not this ***** again.
the BIG DIFFERENCE is this:
The abuses in Christianity are a result of members of the christian church fundamentally acting in a non-christian way.
The abuses in the church of Scientology are a result of cytologists applying the scriptures of Scientology CORRECTLY.
- da_bradler, on 01/24/2008, -8/+3I'll Digg it but that's it, I'm not messing with those crazy bastards. I'd rather go up against the government then have scientology on my ass.
