One of the Dumbest Phone Calls Ever Made to the Police..
news.bbc.co.uk — Police called out to a 999 call about an unexplained object in the night sky solved the mystery straight away for their operator - "it's the Moon, over." But the emergency call meant the officers were sent out to a house in the valleys area of south Wales. They were told a "bright stationary object" was spotted above the unnamed caller's home.

- BalooUrsidae, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure they had to send someone for that. The article made it sound like the control dispatcher radioed for an available officer in the field to take a look upwards, who radioed back saying that it was the moon looming over the hills.
- Pixelpaws, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2And yet, when there's an actual emergency, it takes hours to get a response. My boyfriend had someone trying to break into his house with a chainsaw and the police arrived the following morning, nearly twelve hours later.
- danharlow, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Well duh, I mean, nobody wants to mess with a crazy person wielding a chainsaw. I mean I sure as hell would not go rushing into a dark house knowing full well there was a chain saw man waiting for me somewhere in there. :)
- danharlow, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6Anyone else notice that the media player on the page has a volume control that goes to 11?
Good times.- savethejets, on 07/04/2008, -2/+0Why don’t you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?
- spiri, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Yeah, that seems to be a BBC special, their flash video players do the same.
- celticspringers, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1The guy was from Wales. The Welsh are famous for inventions like the solar-powered flashlight.
- Haecceity, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Throw in a double entendre from Captain Jack and this could be an out-take from the worst episode of Torchwood ever.

- blackjack75, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Stupidity aside this makes me wonder why we couldn't agree on a global emergency across the world.. 999 in the UK, 911 in the US, 117 in Switzerland and so on.
How is a tourist supposed to get help in a foreign country if we can't agree on something so simple ?- BalooUrsidae, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Dial 119 on your mobile. That's the universal emergency number agreed upon for mobile phone networks. Of course, the well-known emergency number for your country also works.
- spiri, on 07/08/2008, -0/+11-1-2 is the standard number in the EU and on GSM cellphones. It also works in the UK alongside 999.
