- virginian9000, on 06/30/2008, -6/+23That's crazy! I wonder how the ship survived.
- chrisfnet, on 07/01/2008, -2/+6That shot whenever they're so far out of the water you can see the keel really makes you wonder.
Have to give the captain props for that trip back. - nafa228, on 07/01/2008, -4/+2Will power...
- senfo, on 07/01/2008, -2/+14It's definitely crazier with the smaller ships. Here's a similar video that I posted last week. It's crazy how powerful the environment can be.
http://digg.com/environment/Ship_in_a_Huge_Storm- WhatInThe42o, on 07/01/2008, -13/+2Interesting, if silent, video. But, I don't digg people who shamelessly plug their own ***** in other posts.
- AlienHairball, on 07/01/2008, -1/+9It's related so I dug him up. Nothing wrong with linking to related material IMO.
- noahhoward, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7I think you'll find ships routinely go through worse.
- Luizzle, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Woah! that looked like awesome fun!

- Envenom, on 06/30/2008, -11/+3So that's dangerous.
- CCoe, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1Yes, space traveller, this is what we call "dangerous" here on Earth.

- MrColdheart, on 07/01/2008, -1/+21Just imagine everyone inside as that ship flew about 50 feet up while riding that wave. Kinda like when your friend drives to fast over that hill only your head hits the roof a lot harder.
- Bologner, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2DO A BARREL ROLL!
- Kappa00, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Use the boost to get through!
- Bologner, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2DO A BARREL ROLL!
- foxtrot3, on 07/01/2008, -4/+59So who or what made that film? And how? Were they on another ship? A helicopter? What? And did the ship go on the rocks? It looked like it was going to, but the film stopped. Many questions here.
- phorty40, on 07/01/2008, -2/+25This is clearly Cloverfield 2 , as filmed by the creature.
- Mononuclear, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6Looks like another boat. There is no way a helicopter could be flying in that storm that low. No way a helicopter would be flying that low even if there wasn't a storm.
- zrcochran, on 07/01/2008, -0/+19It looks like they were filming from a lighthouse or something--about 32 seconds in you can see the rail of the boat in the bottom right hand corner. And you can see rocks and the coast at 52 seconds in.
- mtwoar, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5You're gonna need a bigger boat...
- ovistomih, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2The person who made the film was probably on a bigger boat.
I was a 3rd mate on a 60.000dwt Bulk Carrier and I've been through a few storms like that myself but it never affected us that bad - PhrosTT, on 07/01/2008, -0/+8dugg for no ***** music or annoying talking
- biznatch11, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Maybe it was someone on shore, and the boat was heading in to an inlet or something to get out of the big waves? The water looked a bit calmer at the end as they were approacing the rocks.
- sghost, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I've seen similar videos filmed by the Coast Guard before on their boat or another larger boat.
- rccarter, on 07/01/2008, -13/+8Seen much worst on deadliest catch. :P
- fr3ddie, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3yea no kidding... Ive seen worse WHILE they are actually working.
- MajorOutage, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3Was thinking the same thing.
Yawn. - rompom7, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3You and the other 4 million viewers that watch the show must be very worldly and have great experience on the sea.
- LaurenElder, on 07/01/2008, -0/+7I cannot even begin to imagine what it was like to be on the boat during all of that.
- punkcat, on 07/01/2008, -4/+4watch the video, it will give you an idea.
- crobarian, on 07/01/2008, -3/+3That looks like one of the crabbing ships from the Deadliest Catch area. Wonder if that was during the hurricane they had to face this past season.
- ColorBlind, on 07/01/2008, -5/+42What's so unbelievable about that? Just a bad storm. Looks like the captain knew exactly how to handle it....
- whiterabbitobj, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Indeed. Those were pretty big waves, but not all that big. It was the lee shore that was the real danger there, not the waves themselves.
- Born4Surf, on 07/01/2008, -5/+7Cool! Deadliest Catch is a programme you want to watch for nice stormy seas
- AlexWiggy, on 07/01/2008, -5/+3All we need now is a few guys sat on the front with those chess boards that have pieces stuck down.
Looks about force 8 to me?- Hello1024, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1dugg up for a well placed xkcd reference.

- republicker, on 07/01/2008, -3/+1If it was a bad storm there would be no ship.
- tweetsa, on 07/01/2008, -6/+106i've been on seas 10 times as rough. Our ship was actually ripped apart, no one survived.

Maybe I should just /wrist and then I can use the internet without all that trouble of bodily functions.Hmm wait. Are there video games in the afterlife? Thats another thing to linger for.
- ILoveBoobies, on 07/01/2008, -1/+0Except you!

- Komodork, on 07/01/2008, -2/+20they have internet access in hell/heaven?
- Thrilltone, on 07/01/2008, -0/+27That is a net boat. See the roller on the stern?
The video was taken from shore.
If the waves are that big near shore, they may have been 10-20 feet higher, offshore.
I was on a 10 day Shrimping trip and we worked in 10 footers for 4 days.
I've gone out on crab boats where the traps were flying off the boat in rough seas.
(little traps, not those Bering Sea traps)- Duositex, on 07/01/2008, -6/+1The camera was moving and the waves were headed OUT to sea. That wasn't shore.
- Emery, on 07/01/2008, -4/+1It's probably not taken from shore. Look at when the camera pans to the left and right... you can see boat rigging. The person filming is very close to the ship... this was not shot with any kinda of extreme telephoto lens. The bigger ship seems to be guiding the smaller ship to protection and keeping a watchful eye in case anything goes wrong.
- svensksvamp, on 07/01/2008, -3/+4let's go for a swim
- Robopath, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6I believe the person making the film is on some kind of platform or drilling rig. You can here the vibrations of the sea swells rocking whatever it is and making something that is hanging clack on the structure. As for the other ship surviving, it appears to be handling those waves quite well actually. I have been in 7' seas on a 22' boat, it was much less in control than this boat is... its all about relative size. That is a massive boat.
- Emery, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1There is no oil rig parked next to rocks like that. The person filming was definitely on a ship and then were definitely next to a land mass.
- Spartyon, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1neither of you have any idea about the locations of oil rigs or how a huge ship like that handles in heavy seas. and robopath, here? talk about totally discrediting anything you said after that.
- Premier, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4The boat isn't in serious trouble, it's made for traversing rough seas, they just have to cut their speed down and stay their course, I just hope their cargo is tied down.
- nogami, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I would think the biggest danger would be if they lost the engine for some reason with all of that shaking around - as long as they can keep the bow pointed into the waves, there's no problem, but if they were to get caught sideways, they'd have an interesting time.
- CherrySmith123, on 07/01/2008, -4/+2holy crap!
- over9k, on 07/01/2008, -6/+2The perfect storm was worse.
- Duositex, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2I'm pretty sure he's referring to the actual perfect storm, and not the movie based on the storm. Yes it was worse. hurricane force winds.. 40+ foot waves. Three days of that.
- Moisgreat, on 07/01/2008, -9/+4That Storm was so fake. Look at the shadows. Terrible editing.
- jthhtj, on 07/01/2008, -7/+1It's amazing what they can do with computer graphics nowadays.
- Emery, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1It's really hard to tell from the video but it looks as though it was being filmed from a much larger ship. Both seem to be headed for some sort of caldera for protection. The rock formations look eerily familiar to Deception island off the coast of the Antarctic peninsula. I was caught in a similar storm down in the southern ocean and the center of the caldera provides protection.
- WhatInThe42o, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2I've never heard of a harbor referred to as a caldera, which is a crater left by a volcanic eruption, or underground magma pool. I'd hate to see the volcano that would leave a caldera that could be used to find shelter in a storm. Do you know the location, so I could find this on Google maps?
- TheRealM3D, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deception_Island
- TheRealM3D, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Go here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-62.95,-60.6&spn=0. ...
Zoom in a bit until there are images for that location. Then go south, following the coastline. You will see the ocean-flooded crater jutting up from the south side of the island. Pretty impressive stuff.
- Emery, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1That's my point... I don't think this is a harbor. Land masses (islands, calderas, etc) have been used for protection from storms at sea for centuries.

- JackGrinnan, on 07/01/2008, -5/+0So, this was filmed in a helicopter? I'd say that's more insane.
- zavats, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2.... very believable storm.
- emptyo, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2That would scare the living sh!t out of me if I were on that boat. No thanks....
- MemoDelLocos, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7Earth = Awesome
- mag4mag, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1If the cameraman is on a ship near by, why isn't his camera shaking?
- HanSolo69, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1Ehhh....I'd believe it.
- galvo, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1That was so believable.

- jakdracula, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2Wow. Those ads across the bottom are totally annoying.
I'm going to boycott Meta Cafe from now on... at least until those ads go away.
In other news:
These questions may of you are asking: How did they film that? If it was from a boat, why isn't the boat moving? Was it a helicopter?
I watched the video once, and was able to deduce that:
1. The camera was on a tripod or affixed to something stationary, something on land.
2. The camera was on 'zoom', not that close to the boat.
3. The metal object that becomes visible on the right is a buoy. - candafilm, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1A three hour tour...
- Orrent, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3This is what happens when old Greg rides his moped across the ocean floor, crushing crabs in his wake as he roars along at thirty.

- agarwaengrc, on 07/01/2008, -2/+5based on the following video that seems to be filmed in the same location (watch the rocks near the end of the video, I didn't really take a close look, it might even be the same boat in the same storm)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPBaqh3dcVM
I think the following comment sheds some light on the situation:
"It is in Vestmannaeyjar, that ship is coming to port in vestmannayjeyjar"
So it's a fishing ship in iceland, and it's soon coming to port, that's why it's near land.- DrDigg, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Looks like same video.
- transmothra, on 07/01/2008, -7/+2totally fake, you can see the shower curtain at 1:37. FAIL.
