e-Frontier Justice: Car forum posters go after joyriding valet web braggart
autoblog.com — Bragging in a car forum about how you joyride in the cars you valet park is dumb. It's even dumber when you say what city you work in. And it really sucks when the forum members start narrowing down the possibilities of where you work, in the hopes of reporting you and getting you canned.

The jetta has a valet key that just fails to start the car.- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yes, because they aren't made by the same company, oh wait.

- CedEx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Maybe his wife is still in it???
- KniteWulf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The A3 has the same thing. I think pretty much all Audi vehicles have that
- bloodypython, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4I think its the lack of an engine not the key that limits the rpm's.

- MadDoggie, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23So these guys call (at least) one place that they THINK a new member to their forum MIGHT work as a valet and give a general report of "I saw some of your valets driving expensive cars off the lot." So not only could the thread creator be, oh, I dunno, lying about the whole thing, now actual employees that probably didn't even have anything to do with the situation are going to be bitched at or even penalized.
Great Internet justice.- atomicshocker, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Sounds like you were served a plate of Internet justice and still have that sour taste in your mouth. LOSER!!
- grubbnation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0From the content of you comment, it is obvious that your comprehension of the thread (if you even read the entire thread) and inductive reasoning are lacking. Also, nobody would be "penalized" if they have done nothing wrong.

- spootmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4HA..funny story. I live in Charlotte where this took place...This had to have happened in Uptown and there are only so many places that have valet..Charlotte is pretty small. My guess it was ether Zink's or that really big seafood place on S. Tryon. Anyway funny story.
- FallenWings, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1According to the thread, it took place at the Hilton downtown.
- webmasterjoe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Valet idiots like that are why I don't get a more expensive car. I'm just interested in my car being comfortable, reliable, and big enough to haul my gear (and no bigger). And stick shift.
I do hope this kid gets fired though, and I hope the internet vigilantes don't take this too far. It's not like the kid stole their camera or something!- Winters, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2+ For making stick a requirement.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6- For the claim that valet fear is what stops you from buying a more expensive car.
- TechCoder, on 10/10/2007, -5/+43.2.1 and the forum is crashed. Its great when people post links to sites that cant handle the load. digg needs a mirroring mechanism. this is stupid.
- harksaw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's still running just fine for me.
- digrboi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1...down goes the forum server
- Izikoo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Oh, this makes me so happy. The GTO forum is my main hangout on the internet, and the tone of every post on the board is "Respect Other Peoples Property". We are very careful when it comes to mechanics, or door dings, or any other situation where someone else could damage your property. This kid was just asking for trouble when he posted about taking the car out for a spin without permisson.
We get pissed when someone takes our lowly $35k GTOs without permission, I can't imagine what the Lambo owners would do to this kid! - calpaully, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If they really wanted to find the guy, they should just post on Craigslist or put an ad in the local paper describing the situation and asking anyone who knows a Gallardo owner to see if it rings a bell. How many Gallardos could possibly be cruising around in Charlotte? Otherwise they are just taking shots in the dark.
- skankme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"How many Gallardos could possibly be cruising around in Charlotte?"
There are probably even less Gallardo owners that browse the personal adds on CraigsList.
- skankme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"How many Gallardos could possibly be cruising around in Charlotte?"
- chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1He didnt crash it. Much ado about nothing.
- 0ddity, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Ahh. GTA is only wrong if you crash or get caught. Thanks for the info.
- Jasio, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2You people are pathetic. He drove it around the block, who cares. The guy probably can't even spell the name of his car, and if anything happened he could probably get a new one without a dent in his wallet. If you're worried about valet's, park your own ***** car.
- webmasterjoe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8That's right! Yeah! Stupid rich people with all their money that we assume they didn't earn by working hard! They should be able to replace their expensive stuff easily because they are rich (which we still hate them for), and despite having access to paid services that we wouldn't personally pay for, they shouldn't pay for those fancy luxury services! They deserve to lose their stuff because they can afford stuff!
- an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3um.. "you people?" ... last I checked it was a car forum, not Digg, that was doing all this. Why didn't you post this there?
- Treoinmypocket, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3As someone who practically paid his way thru college by being a valet in hotels and casinos this happens everyday in everyplace there is a valet. Back when mobile phones were hardwired into the cars, calling CHINA was a fun thing to do as well.
Also, racing the car to the 1st back wall of the garage to see which car type was fastest - and had the shortest stopping distance - was great fun.- CaviMike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Maybe you should jump off the bridge with the monkey.
- Izikoo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Forum is farked, but here is the original post, and a few of the posts that set the tone for the rest of the thread.

Well i was working my job today as a valet in charlotte and a lamborghini Gallardo pulls up. He said he was just coming and leaving so i talked to him a bit and asked him to show me what the car had when he left and he just slammed it and took off like crazy.
He came back later that night to valet his car and around 12:30 am i decided to take it out for a spin because it had been sitting up front right in front my valet stand all day just taunting me and rubbing itself in my face. I get in it and rev it up and take off and holy cow full of *****.. amazing in every way..
i come back with the car and about 15 minutes later the guy comes down and starts feeling the engine and stuff to see if it was driven. He goes inside and come right back out and asks me if anyone drove it and i said "Yes, i took it up to the car lot and back" and he goes back inside looking pissed as hell and come right back out again and says "thanks for being honest" and i went ahead and gave him complimentary valet parking ($22 per night).. but damn i was nervous for a hot second.
...next car on my buy list... Gallardooooo

If I had seen you go for a fun run in my car, I'd probably have beaten your ass, then had you fired.
GTO48
oh and it doesn't sound like you were "honest".
You took it out for 15 minutes and drove it like you stole it. Not just up to the lot and back.
skory15
I have plenty but he signed up for valet so if you leave a freakin lamborghini with 2 kids (20 yrs old) running Valet then you have to expect them to drive it cuz thats what we are being payed to do.. and he showed me how to drive it and what to do and what not to do...so whateva
..and i just took it around the block .. in the first post i said 15 minutes after i got back he came down...

So your excuse is: "I'm young, dumb, and full of cum"???

20 yrs old is old enough to know not to beat on other's property... But, oh I guess since he's rich it's ok. - GabrielS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I used to park cars for a private golf club. The guy that ran the valet had carwash and gas fill up service options. We did get to drive the cars to the gas station. All I can say is that driving a Ferrari F50 is ***** awesome!
We got so many phone numbers just filling up the gas tanks. It was unreal. Whatever it is, the fast car is a chick magnet.- GabrielS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I guess this isn't the same as the posted story. We didn't drive anywhere other than the nearest route to and from the gas station and the golf club.
- lokai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Chicks giving you their numbers because they saw you driving in a nice car? Damn, people have misplaced priorities.
- GabrielS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They only briefly saw us driving the cars. Usually they just approach you when you're filling up the gas tank. It's like if in medievil times you were riding a white unicorn. You probably got laid all the time.
- 0ddity, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Ahh. So there is a reason there is that little "Valet" button in the glove-box of my Jaguar. I thought it just cripples my car for fun...
- orvtech, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I will NEVER let my Subaru STi be driven by a valet parking guy. ... im sure most of them are Evo lovers

- breaker01, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The guy who posted the thread about the joy ride is gay. But so are the internet detectives trying to get him fired.
- 0ddity, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2What does where they stick their penis have anything to do with anything?
- dorianh49, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2forum link is down ( http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177558 ), but try http://www.ls7gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177558
- snoolyagain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0He deserves it.
- deutscheBag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1sounds like he valets at a hotel - "working my job today as a valet in charlotte and a lamborghini...pulls up. He said he was just coming and leaving...He came back later that night to valet his car and around 12:30 am...."
- bridow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i call total bs. that was his first post and second i LIVE in uptown charlotte. there is no place thats 22/night for parking.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Everyone keeps saying he drove the car for 15 minutes which is not true. Read it!
"i come back with the car and about 15 minutes later the guy comes down and starts feeling the engine..."
The driver came back 15 minutes after his very short "joy ride".(Probably 2 minutes as he said he went around the block)
Not to mention I don't know what they mean by the description. No one in the post tried to find out where the guy lived and half the posts are about cars and have nothing to do with the valet. On top of that not one post talked about tracking down where the kid works and getting him fired. And most of these guys are just pompous assholes talking about their expensive cars that they don't want anyone to drive because everyone in the world is dumb but them. But that thread proves they are the idiots. It's all "WAH WAH I CAN NEVER USE VALET WAH WAH"- CobolNoFun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3he works at the Hilton. They link to another post were he talks about where he works.
- grubbnation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If you were as observant as you think you are, you would have noticed the original poster edited his post to add the "later" in his post. That is were the confusion came from. Also, as the above reply pointed out, you missed the link to a post made by the original poster that stated where he worked. Thirdly, someone did call his work place and reported the incident. How about you take your own advice and "Read it!" before YOU call others idiots.
- hildeaux, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1(posting on my GF's account because I'm just a lame lurker)
It's guys like this that give the rest of us valets a bad name. I've been valet parking for two years, and the most I'll ever do is step on the gas a bit on the two-block long route to the parking garage to feel the midrange acceleration. I've never taken anything, even a Ferrari over 45 or so.
Knowing quite a few people in the industry, I can confidently say this person is in the minority. Most of us just want to do our job quickly and safely so we can get good tips and avoid accidents. - Flare, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Here's the link to the thread:
http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177558 - youjettisonme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I managed a valet company for 3 years in my 20s. I would never valet my car. Our workforce consisted of 120 employees, 99% of which were out to scam the company as well as the customer. We had been having problems at one particular account with theft. We rented a car, rigged it with video and sound, hired a friend to go to dinner, and put money in the ashtray and the glove comparment box. Then we waited... By the end of the night we had a beautiful tape of an employee doing exactly what we figured most of our employees were doing... ripping people off. The best part of the video is that he narrated every thought in his mind as he was stealing the money. "Well, well... what do we have here? 5 dollars?! Stupid *****. What kind of stupid ***** would just leave money in a car? These people deserve to get ripped off." Classic video.
- alienpunk778, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Post that video..I would digg it.
- topperge, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Working with the admin to get the site stable...
- kirillcool, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Who needs detectives? At [1] he says that he works in downtown Charlotte Hilton and that he's 19. And at [2] he says that he owns a 2001 BMW Z3.

[2] http://www.ls7gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162417 - futureteg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0someone did this on a honda board I visit a while back
Here is what happened: dude worked as valet, a chick brought in a turbo civic and went to eat...he went joy riding...then started bragging about it
Turns out the chick's boyfriend posted on the forum. It didn't take long to put the guy's location and the post together to find that this was exactly the kids car. Then someone looked through the guy's post history and found the place where he worked. Turned out...the owner of that place was a friend of the boyfriend, bam kid got canned - jamauss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe Brad Burns from "Zio Systems" moved to Charlotte and started valet parking cars?
- geocator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just spit my drink out. That was great, thank god everyone else is gone for the day.
- badfish0116, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Dude those "detectives" are obnoxious up tight conceded bastards. They are preaching about the morality of driving some dudes $170,000 car. Then they condecendinly laugh at the kid about him being a valet and how he is poor and how owning a GTO somw how makes them superior to this kid. Really the new GTO's are pieces of *****! They are a knock off of an Australian Pontiac that didnt sell well in the outback so they just slapped GTO on it and upped the price by like 30g's. Leave the dude alone all he did was drive some rich boners car around for a second, If he would have wrecked it dented it or hurt it in anyway then bash the ***** out of him but damn I really dont see what the big deal is. most valeys drive the ***** out of cars. IM ranting but those people are egotistical dooshies.
- Jade10145, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Honestly, I would prob take it out as well...Yes I know its wrong, but its a lambo
What I would not do is brag about it on a message board, thats just plain stupid - TorqueLord, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You are ignorant as it gets. The 04-06 Pontiac GTO is based on the Australian Holden Monaro, not an "Australian Pontiac". They cost approximately 33,000 dollars new, so I guess by your math of "jacking it up 30K" it must have cost only 3 grand down in Oz. It's a fantastic car too for anyone who has actually driven it. I'm sure you haven't, you probably lack the opposable thumbs to open the doors anyway. Your post reeks of jealousy and envy. Grow up. Anyone who thinks this moron was OK in doing what they did has no respect for other peoples property and probably little for themselves. Take your ignorant hate elsewhere.
- badfish0116, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Holden, officially GM Holden Ltd
i meant 3g's. Sorry. TorqueLord. haha . You sound like a dude that got ripped off by buying a crappy Daewoo look-a-like. Dont get all pissy because you spent 40 grand on a crappy Australian knock off. If this car was so badass then why did the Australians scrap it. Well they knew that in America idiots such as yourself would buy it just bc it has GTO on the side of it. I dont have to drive this car. I can tell that they turned a beautiful, history filled automobile in to a generic modular looking piece of plastic. Y dont you take your new GTO and put it head to head against an old 65 goat and see who eats the dust. So in conclusion
2005+ GTO= Total peice of Australian JuNK- TorqueLord, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Once again you prove how utterly stupid you are. If I took my GTO up against a 65 GTO I would leave it in the dust you retard. Early Goats would run low 14's in the quarter stock, maybe high 13's. Mine ran mid 13's right out of the box and now is in the high 12's. Not to mention I can take it into corners and brake as well. So STFU as you obviously no nothing about current or past GTO's. I also paid about 31K at the time which was right at invoice price you moron, and it's worth every penny. I'm guessing a queer douchebag such as yourself probably drives some ragged out 4 banger POS Toyota. You are a total idiot and a royal asshat. I'm guessing you were probably molested/abused as a child too with all the latent hate you have. Good luck with all that anger and ignorance, it will only lead you to an early grave. Yeah and sure you meant 3g's. Idiot.

- Marmot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1One night, I was eating dinner near the valet parking lot at a local mall.
I thought it was really funny watching these kids driving the cars in and out of the valet parking lot. Funny because I didn't valet park :)
When parking the cars, the valet drivers would go tearing in like a bat out of hell. This is because the car owners would drop off the car and disappear into the mall--most likely, they wouldn't stick around to see some punk kid go tearing off in their new car. That, or the kids would wait until they were well away from the valet dropoff before opening 'er up.
When it came time to pick up the car, the valet drivers would always drive them back with the most sedate grandmotherly driving style you could imagine. No doubt, this is because the customer would be waiting, and would see exactly how their car was being treated... - toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Big ***** deal... with all the mass murder we read about here, we care about this *****?
- backwoodsbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If the story is true, since when is stupidity news?
