      But seriously. Giving poor people food + no education on how to help themselves = increased populations and increased mouths to feed. Therefore, just giving them food would make the problem worse.

      I would like you to make that case not from the keyboard in your bedroom, which is probably not far from your full refrigerator, but instead standing with a bag of oranges in front of a family in, say, Darfur, whose child was near death from starvation. Education? Good. Reorganizing populations and food distribution systems? Good. New farming techniques and high-yield crops? Good. Off-the-cuff pronouncements about not giving a man a fish until he learns to fish? Bad, especially when that man is about to die from starvation.
