Photo of what China claims to be the 'world's largest bus'
shanghaiist.com — "The Chinese manufacturer, Zhejiang Young Man Vehicle Group, introduced the 25-meter-long 'Superliner' at Shanghai's Busworld Asia 2007 convention. The bus has five doors, 40 seats, carries up to 300 passengers and, according to a driver, 'is flexible when cornering.'" Comments from Australia and Brazil claim their countries have longer buses.

- 0o0Moylan0o0, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6Thats insane, i would hate to have to drive that thing... And with the traffic in China, you would think it is impossible to change lanes/turn with that thing wouldnt you?

gonna be hard to make turns :( - MuteMathSSR, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I hate how you queers reply to this guy with nothing in relation to what he said - just to see your comments high up on the list.
+ new photo's were added to the post. - NachoBusiness, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4That bus doesn't look dramatically longer than the buses at the places I used to work. Everyone came in through the guard station and took a bus to where they worked... there were usually 3-5 buses going at any time. And they had 3 segments just like this bus and held maybe 100 or so people at peak hours. We could have technically fit more in... this chinese bus only has 40 seats. Of course this bus was driven on closed-to-the-public roads with only light non-bus traffic.
- Monolith2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3There are buses this long (if not longer) at a lot of US airports. You dont have to worry about turning radius when youre driving on a wide open tarmac.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"why do i have a feeling that it's just 3 buses that are attached to each other?"
Only the front section has an engine. Also, the axle locations are different on each section. The front section has either roof mounted A/C or higher headroom. The other sections don't have this. So basically I am saying no, they didn't just chain 3 whole buses together to make this. - edeliz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7*sigh* always compensating for something
- JoeCool1986, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When I first saw the picture I thought it kinda looked like three buses duct taped together. Now that's the REAL engineering way to do it.
- zappo1776, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're going to need bigger buses than that to move a billion people around. Anyone remember this nuclear powered bus from the movie.

- Blackmane, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Bah, Jeremy Clarksons Limo from Top Gear was still longer than that bus. You have a job on if you had to walk all the way to the front to get off, good job there is more than one set of doors.
- neiltc13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Is the submitter really this ignorant? "Photo of what China claims to be the 'world's largest bus'" implies that the country itself (ie, the Government) is making this claim. Of course, it's actually the manufacturer, not "China" that is doing it.

(Technically, it would be possible -- prolly even road legal.) - Keloran, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3doesn't the Chinese government own all the industry though, so even though its a manufacturer its still the government claiming it

- sergeantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15My grandfather was mechanic for a transit agency. The drivers weren't even allowed to backup the buses. If they ever got in a situation where they had to backup, they had to turn off the bus and wait for a mechanic come and back it up for them.

- SlowOnTheUptake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13300 passengers but only 40 seats? Is that the normal ratio for a bus? That would only work out to about 6 or 7 seats per side for each of the three sections.

- rchmura, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Here's some info on the Brazilian bus: http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ônibus_biarticulado
(looks like it carries 270 passengers, and is 27 meters long).
I really think that the Australian comment on that site was referencing transport trucks instead of buses. (but I could be wrong) Anyone from Australia have more info?- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah
Road trains are like Semi-trailers with lots and lots..and lots...lots..of trailers stuck on the end. A bitch to overtake. - echoforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Picture of the Brazilian bus:
http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com/long260.html - Zaarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes. Road trains are multi trailer, semi trailers. They are not a bus, thought their length is probably comparable (possibly longer) than that bus.
- ybisme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"World's longest road trains
In 1999 the town of Merredin, Western Australia made it into the Guinness Book of Records, when Marleys Transport made a successful attempt on the record for the world's longest road train. The record was created when 45 trailers, driven by Greg Marley, weighing 603 metric tons and measuring 610 metres were pulled by a Kenworth truck for 8 km.
In 2003, the record was surpassed near Mungindi, New South Wales, by a road train consisting of 87 trailers and a single prime mover (measuring 1235 metres in length).
The next record was 1,442 metres, set by a driver in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in a Kenworth owned by Doug Gould.
In 2006, a truck with 104 semi-trailers (at a length of 1,474.3 metres) claimed a new record at Clifton, Queensland."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_train - Zaarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well then. I was way off with their possible length. Though, I personally have only seen a couple that are more than 3 trailers long. Obviously they can only go on particular routes: http://transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Industry/Freight_and_heavy_vehicles/Heavy_vehicles/Multi_combination_vehicles/
- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah
- steviebaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12It's not the size that matters. It's where you park it.

- Poosha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Volvo makes busses like that one, the longest version is 26.8 m, I think that's the one they have in Brazil. Here's the best pic I could find (not very good) http://www.hallekis.com/arkiv/xx041021c.htm
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually it is built by a German company, Neoman.

- CyberGhost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Correction, "longest" bus, not the largest, for the "largest" claim, I'd expect something really huge, that is multi-storey and makes everything around look small.
