41-year-old Dara Torres wins, headed to 5th Olympics
startribune.com — Forty-one-year-old Dara Torres completed her improbable Olympic comeback, making the U.S. team for the fifth time by winning the 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic trials. Wearing goggles older than some of her competitors, Torres got off to a blazing start and guarded her lead on the furious return lap to win in 54.78 seconds.

It's also unfortunate that some of the third place and below finishers in individual events (who probably will not get to swim at the Olympics) are very much podium metal contenders at the games itself.

- dienaked, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Somebody find that article that shows how older mothers get 'rejuvenated' or 'made younger' by the stem cells released by the growing fetus into the bloodstream. The stem cells from the fetus repair damaged tissues in the mother or something.
Quite a few women athletes have become much better performers after having children. That is what prompted the study.
