I said "wow" to myself just as a knee jerk reaction to some of those pictures. Especially the guards, the twisting building and... well you get the idea.- jayenator, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3You DO know what I'm saying!

- Shoebox639, on 07/21/2008, -2/+14because I assume you are a guy and I assume you find women prettier than men. You trying to tell us something?

- Funpolice2050, on 07/21/2008, -2/+9Anybody else see the ninjas among the policemen in the 12th picture, or is it just me?
- mediaspree, on 07/21/2008, -2/+21You can't see a ninja.
- 801NvizioN, on 07/21/2008, -1/+7Let him think what he wants.

- dracostimpy, on 07/21/2008, -10/+1Yeah; it's just too bad that Heath Ledger isn't around to see it. I'm sure he'd appreciate how amazing it is far more than you or I, pciulla, because he's just a whole lot deeper than you or I.
- dracostimpy, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1Fine, go ahead and bury me if you must, Nicholson fans. Just keep in mind that you'll never again be able to digg up a truly unique talent like Heath Ledger! YOU ARE ALL BUTTHOLES.

http://cache.boston.com/universal/site_graphics/bl ...- kingmanic, on 07/21/2008, -5/+8It's probably just a Tibetan.
(I'm Canadian Chinese, and proud of how far china has come, but sometimes the ***** they get into just isn't worth it.)- antonycao, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Tibet is where Yanzte and Yellow river (two largest fresh water sources for China) originate. They'll do every crap there is to protect that...
- ABadPerson, on 07/21/2008, -0/+6Whatever it is that was hit, the driver raised his fist triumphantly.
- kingmanic, on 07/21/2008, -5/+8It's probably just a Tibetan.
- kidrocky7, on 07/21/2008, -2/+10sad picture of the father with the son. still to me, shows how much his son means to him and that there's still hope even in the dark times
- ChuckieBallz, on 07/21/2008, -0/+7Actually he's one of the men that destroyed the building. It just happened to be "bring your baby to work day." The photo has a completely different meaning when it's in context.
- neko, on 07/21/2008, -0/+11Actually, the baby destroyed the building. The man is yelling 你做了什么?!
- antonycao, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1One of my relatives in Beijing got compensated up to 1.2 million RMB for losing a crappy house like that. there is no way for me to feel sorry for him!
- ChuckieBallz, on 07/21/2008, -0/+7Actually he's one of the men that destroyed the building. It just happened to be "bring your baby to work day." The photo has a completely different meaning when it's in context.
- QsheiK, on 07/21/2008, -1/+17Everything is so damn shiny. Almost looks like a PS3/360 game.
- jackwk, on 07/21/2008, -0/+8http://cache.boston.com/universal/site_graphics/bl ... Reminded me of Halo
- Bkaufman, on 07/21/2008, -1/+4I know what you mean. It almost looks fake. The water stadium is really amazing though. I hope that opening their country up to the world will encourage the Chinese to take the welfare of their people into account more.
- lattin1, on 07/21/2008, -2/+25They're not banning cars. What they've done is designated who can drive on what days by allowing cars with even numbered licensed plates to drive one day and odd numbers the next day. Not a bad idea.
- kingmanic, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Many major Asian cities already do this. In Manila a similar system exists.
- make7upyours06, on 07/21/2008, -1/+3mexico city has been doing this for ages. hasn't helped pollution much but oh, well...
- kingmanic, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Many major Asian cities already do this. In Manila a similar system exists.
- hoisonsauce, on 07/21/2008, -9/+1Sticks. With all of the provisions being taken for these Olympic Games, the best the Chinese could come up with in terms of anti-terrorism measures is sticks?
- kenrayd, on 07/21/2008, -11/+1What a bunch of hyped-up ultra-vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2 (paraphrase)
- Vesuvias, on 07/21/2008, -4/+1Agreed. They are putting on a giant facade... think of the money that could have been spent on something other then more gigantic buildings that I no doubt will see in ruins in 10 years... or at least REALLY dirty from the pollution...
- TracerMan, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1If your country is hosting the olympics, I'm sure it would also prepare to impress.
- Vesuvias, on 07/21/2008, -1/+0Of course, I understand that, but to be honest its just interesting to see all the crazy things they are brushing under the table to make themselves LOOK like things are decent...
- mysn239, on 07/21/2008, -2/+41The police are actually NINJAS!

- Providence, on 07/21/2008, -2/+25This is BIG stuff guys. The 2008 Beijing Olympics are a tool for China to showcase that they intend to be serious economic, technological, and cultural contenders in the 21st Century. The level of detail and effort they are pouring into these Games triumphs over any previous effort by any other country, by far. China is doing so in order to send a message to the rest of the world and the United States. Let's just hope that we get the message.
- 0biKwiet, on 07/21/2008, -4/+4Why? They're the ones who care.
- Providence, on 07/21/2008, -0/+8What do you mean?
Are you implying that the United States will not care about the message they're trying to send us? The common man won't, of course, but anyone in any serious competitive industry (engineering, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, almost any manufacturing industry, intangible industries like service, etc...) should and will. The 21st Century is the Century of the Dragon.- hiPpymIck, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3..go Wales

- DanielAzarc, on 07/21/2008, -0/+10Wow, those are great pictures. I love seeing everything that they're doing, and without too much story. Sometimes just the pictures do wonders. I look forward to seeing how the pollution is handled, though.
- NathanCH, on 07/21/2008, -0/+5Beautiful buildings. Nothing like that is being built here in Vancouver for the 2010 olympics ;(
- TheBuzzKiller, on 07/21/2008, -1/+4It is a city with over 15M people and it's only about 600K in Van., if that's any measure of funds/scale (4%).
- DeFex, on 07/21/2008, -2/+4Its only winter olympics. they even let countries like canada have them.

- siggyfawn, on 07/21/2008, -4/+7until you actually look at them. dear god. ship them some makeup.
- Ravenlark, on 07/21/2008, -2/+2They've done a great job with all of this, I'll admit. However, I still think that the "Water Cube" looks rediculous.
- gplpark92, on 07/21/2008, -6/+1i'm gonna go there and wear my free tibet shirt. i have a bulletproof vest underneath.
and those cop outfits look sick, all its missing is the mask of the immortals from 300 - Quicksilver4648, on 07/21/2008, -0/+27Remember a few months ago when everyone was chanting "boycott the Olympics"?

- antonycao, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1It seems that, to somebody, China just can't do anything right.
- moobies, on 07/21/2008, -1/+6Someone ought to tell China that no sex shops is going to cause a terrorist attack.

(bring your own dildos) - yovia, on 07/21/2008, -5/+0have you seen these chinese signs - they call it 'Engrish':
http://www.petergreenberg.com/2007/09/10/signs-in- ...- AeroZeppelin, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4Congratulations, you found teh internets!
- mictron3030, on 07/21/2008, -9/+2This event is a big crock of *****. China is temporarily not seeming like the polluted, anti-human rights wasteland it is on account of all these pretty buildings-they serve as a great distraction. They are forcing commuters to not drive their cars and making polluting companies cut production during the games. They are making some big steps forward, but they all seem temporary. After the games its back to the old-fashioned nation of red China.
- Providence, on 07/21/2008, -1/+2You have no idea, do you?
This event is a display of China's economic power. If China wants something done, it gets something done, regardless of the moral implications. There's a saying that goes something like this...
A Chinese General has just lost 100,000 men in a war with America, which cost us 10,000 men. The Americans will cry over the great losses it has endured. The Chinese General will scoff, and claim victory.
It isn't about how it's done in China. It's just that it GETS DONE, and that will lead them to great economic success. - mictron3030, on 07/21/2008, -2/+0What happened to thinking critically about this situation? Did the Olympic boycott trend fade out? First everyone was totally against China hosting the games, now all the construction is done and everybody is awestruck. China sure can produce and sport a well-made facad.
- hwy9nightkid, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1I never supported the boycott, I think now people who were silently NOT-boycotting have something to talk about now.
No ones changed their minds, it's just some people are becoming more vocal about the games itself and the venue.
- hwy9nightkid, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1I never supported the boycott, I think now people who were silently NOT-boycotting have something to talk about now.
- AeroZeppelin, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4There is such thing as Western propaganda, ya know?
- Providence, on 07/21/2008, -1/+2You have no idea, do you?
- theskyisblue, on 07/21/2008, -4/+3this is sick in a twisted way
- Bkaufman, on 07/21/2008, -1/+7I guess the 100,000 Ninjas are needed to protect the Olympians from the 100,000 pirates (and 2 athletes) that Somalia is bringing.

- kinigg, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0Money. No forced labor used for these buildings, I don't think.
- novemberwhiskey, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Cool pictures. That restored city looks really cool. It does look a little Disneyland-ish, but I kinda like it.
- PGPirate, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1Does anyone else not like this "fake china"? hell, no sex shops, no thank you
