news.bbc.co.uk — Usain Bolt captured a third gold medal and a third world record after Jamaica claimed the men's 4x100m relay gold.

- Rizoh, on 08/22/2008, -8/+51Bolt is a true competitor. He's pretty much keeping the Olympics alive post-Phelps.
- AlienMushroom, on 08/23/2008, -5/+24In other words, team USA sucks this year.
- Seidoger, on 08/23/2008, -3/+4Are you only saying this because they're not first?
As -if- they sucked... - haochi, on 08/23/2008, -4/+6They (along with the U.S. female 4x100 team) didn't even made into the finals.
Yes, they sucked. - FreddieD, on 08/23/2008, -0/+25Not being able to pass the ***** baton = yes, they suck this year
- ekdevdas, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6agreed about the u.s. relay at least. but to be fair the jamaican women's team kinda blew it too tonight.
just watched mr. bolt and team. he's awesome. - Meocross, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Ouch i saw that. the baton just flipped across the track, that was horrifically embarrassing.
- noots, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2got to love how Bolt beat another team in and he ran the 3rd leg.
- Seidoger, on 08/23/2008, -3/+4Are you only saying this because they're not first?
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/23/2008, -11/+5He's a freak just like Michael Phelps.
- Hyperinsane, on 08/23/2008, -8/+3Agreed. The Olympics should be re-named the freakolympics, becuase the only people who win medals are genetic freaks
- AchaIemoipas, on 08/23/2008, -6/+2I don't think he falls in the true competitor category.
I admire the man's physical abilities, but it's not like he started from the bottom and worked his hardest to become an athlete.
Did you watch the 200m race?
The man missed his start, looked at the camera mid-race and jogged to the finish: beat the world record.
This guy could probably compete drunk and still win. He's a genetic freak, perfect body for running.- Meocross, on 08/23/2008, -2/+1There are the Hard Workers
And then There is the Talented
the guy has talent and the talented always beat the hard workers.
The dude has the ability to use every muscle to run to the maximum while the hard worker will take longer to get there.
survival of the fastest. - fremeer, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1umm hard work+talent=greatness, talent+slackness=mediocre, no talent+hard work=mediocre.
Its not like he got up looked at himself and he had all the muscles at peak efficiency, had the perfect running style and went might as well run for my bread. It took him manys years of work to get to the level of ability he has. - AchaIemoipas, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1No! His running style is atrocious! That's the entire point.
Ask someone you know who does track.
He has terrible technique and still wins. He has an amazing natural talent and no technique. - Syphon8, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Are you kidding me? Bolt's form is magnificent. Especially for someone his height.
- AchaIemoipas, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Dude, even he admits it.
"It's been about my reaction time," Bolt said on Thursday. "We've been working on listening for the gun, being aware of the gun, with handclaps and things like that. After that, it's about my first step, and then my second step, and so on." On Saturday, Bolt reiterated the course which led him to the record. "I give a lot of thanks to my coach. My start was terrible, and he's done a lot for me."
Look at the 200 m race again.
He LOOKS AT THE CAMERA, IN THE MIDDLE OF A 200 M SPRINT.

- simplistics06, on 08/23/2008, -4/+3***** you ***** no one cares about phelps theres no need to remind us of him during bolts glory

- Nineva, on 08/22/2008, -13/+4I'd vote Usain Bolt as president, pope or the new Jesus.
- john2kx, on 08/23/2008, -1/+1President of Jamaica?

- john2kx, on 08/23/2008, -1/+1President of Jamaica?
- JoseBrazil, on 08/22/2008, -6/+4Asafa Powell was noticably muted straight after helping break a long-standing world record. Is he still pissed at his individual 100m performance, or is he a bit miffed at Bolt stealing the limelight this Games?
- ColdCut, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8I noticed the exact opposite... Powell isn't a showman and even he did a little dance after the race. No doubt he's annoyed at his performance in the 100m (it should have been an EASY second), but he's obviously good friends with Bolt. I was happy for him, he definitely had the fastest 100m in that race and I'm glad they let him run the last leg to bring home the gold.
- theWalrus, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6Asafa was noticeably happy after they finished and even did a little dance with Usain
- ImAtHome, on 08/23/2008, -11/+1After USA dropped the baton, it was inevitable.
- grazzing, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2It was insane that both the US men's and the women's teams dropped the baton.
- dpl_, on 08/23/2008, -1/+14It was inevitable when Usain Bolt was put on the team.
- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3What, like you thought you could beat the Jamaicans. That's funny.

- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2What did you expect? Did you think America was going to win?
- NorinRadd, on 08/23/2008, -7/+85And he donated $50K to charity.
Honestly, this dude's accomplishment is more impressive than what Phelps did because the 2 earlier events that he won are far more competitive than swimming. And he broke both World Records in a sport that has been raising the stakes seemingly every 2 years. And he didnt go full force in the 100m.- NorinRadd, on 08/23/2008, -1/+19And his form had a couple errors. And running the 100 is new to him. And....etc
- mabhatter, on 08/23/2008, -11/+1...And he didnt go full force in the 100m.
That is what upset the commentators more than anything else. He's a 21 year old kid new to the sport, watch TV and see basketball & football players take victory dances all the time. People were mostly upset that he won the record but didn't give his all until he crossed the finish line. He notably fixed that in his second race. But I think part of him being third in this race was to minimize showboating opportunities... the choice probably got the team the world record because they put somebody more serious on the final leg that kept their head down, full speed until well after they crossed the line... that's what people like to see in a winner.- mugeninfinity, on 08/23/2008, -0/+9usain bolt is known to be able to run very well on the curve, after all he was originally a 200m runner, so i think that's the real reason he got that position
- sggrissom, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1He saw how far ahead he was and he got excited, don't assume malice with what can more easily be explained as a mistake.
- kaleesh, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5he's like the Flash. oh wait... Bolt is waaay cooler!
- fokov, on 08/23/2008, -10/+4Phelps won 8 gold metals while breaking 7 world records and 1 Olympic record. How is that worse that just winning 3 gold metals and breaking 3 world records?
Who cares about the which country they are from? They are the best in the world! Celebrate that. As for competitiveness, more people can run than swim, but we are talking about the Olympics here, not soccer vs football. All of these people have great training and facilities to work out in. Also if you watched swimming, most of the records were set in the last few years anyway, just like running. If you watch them all, it will be like that for a long time. As people get more and more specialized, and technology increases in equipment or tools, these amazing athletes will continue to get better and faster.- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4Bolt is better than Phelps, period. Running is so much cooler.
- Wrangler76, on 08/23/2008, -3/+5It's good that Phelps won so many golds, but many of his WR are because of the new swim suits, and the super-fast Beijing pool. Running is something that is less affected by technology advancement so Bolt's WRs seem more impressive.
- kernel16, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4If running had 20 events, I'm sure Bolt can beat the 8 medals, lets just randomly invent new ways of running to up the numbers. Running while chewing gum?
- Syphon8, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4The depth of the field in running is much harder, and it is much rarer to see a 3x gold medalist in running than a 6x+ gold medalist in swimming. 3 WR is completely unheard of.
- Genecalypse, on 08/23/2008, -3/+39wait his name is BOLT?
- RobotKeaton, on 08/23/2008, -1/+14This guy's like a superhero. In 2012 he should come in spandex.
- purple, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5Indeed it is.
- FreddieD, on 08/23/2008, -1/+23It's the best fitting name for what he does since Chris Moneymaker.
- sniper241, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1What about Mr.Pennypacker?
- Meocross, on 08/23/2008, -8/+0Its his nickname, or so i heard.
- fokov, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5lightning is his nickname "Lightning" Bolt....and it fits him.
- Mootabolife, on 08/23/2008, -4/+1Almost as good as:
http://0.media.collegehumor.com/collegehumor/ch6/e ...- santaliqueur, on 08/23/2008, -2/+2That name has nothing to do with his sport. I'd say yours is not that great.
- Apokalyps2547, on 08/23/2008, -1/+37With a name like Bolt you'd expect him to be the alter ego for some speedy superhero...
...wait a minute... - zackk, on 08/23/2008, -3/+24Lightning Bolt strikes again!
- HedwigDies, on 08/23/2008, -3/+13Pretty cool if you think about it. He's the fastest human being ever to walk the earth.
- Suzpaz, on 08/23/2008, -2/+3I'm sure there's someone quicker than him on 10meter sprint... He's the fastest 100m and 200m sprinter to ever walk the earth.
And that's not even certain :)
In a cross-country competition once, there was this random guy that followed the race on his own and actually "won" before the world champion. He wasn't even in the competition and no one knew who he was. He was very good but didn't want all the attention and money. He did it for sport.
There is always the chance of someone being better than someone else. Often it's just luck who gets to be where, and sometimes people just don't want the attention, but like to train hard and beating the record "personally" lol. At least in sports where you don't have scouts and recruiters. Football is different- whorunbartertwn, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Nobody gets to top speed in 10 meters, so yeah it's a fair claim to call him the fastest man to walk the earth.
Performing at his level is a combination of natural abilities, training, nutrition, access to proper facilities, etc. so while I'm sure there are many with as much natural ability they would have zero chance of running as fast as Usain Bolt does.
- whorunbartertwn, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Nobody gets to top speed in 10 meters, so yeah it's a fair claim to call him the fastest man to walk the earth.
- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -1/+1They didn't have the Olympics 25,000 years ago. Imagine all the hunters back then that could outrun an animal out of necessity. They would go hunting everyday, which would be like training.
Also, imagine all the other athletes that gave up the sport at age 15. I was the fastest runner in my elementary shcool winning all the races but when I got to highschool I never took up the sport. I'm not saying I could have beat him or come even close, but someone alive today could have if they tried.
He definitly deserves this glory but I would not say that he is "the fastest human being ever to walk the earth" but the fastest human being alive today.- whorunbartertwn, on 08/23/2008, -1/+0Don't be silly people weren't outrunning animals 25,000 years ago.
They were bipedal and built very similarly to we are today, no way anything on two legs is relying on it's ability to run down four legged game to eat. They used their brains to catch their food with tools and hunting techniques such as encircling prey or herding into narrow areas etc.
- whorunbartertwn, on 08/23/2008, -1/+0Don't be silly people weren't outrunning animals 25,000 years ago.

- itwasstinky, on 08/23/2008, -1/+7man, this is a truly historic Olympics, we have Phelps, and Bolt in the same year- both destroying the current records I'm glad i was able to watch them!
- Peko, on 08/23/2008, -1/+3Not to diminish Phelps but Phelps' world records are also due to the new suits.
8 gold medals is the big deal with Phelps. It's very likely that I will not be alive to see somebody beat that. - Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1This is about Bolt not Phelps, shut the ***** up. Just kidding.
- Peko, on 08/23/2008, -1/+3Not to diminish Phelps but Phelps' world records are also due to the new suits.

- celticcrossfire, on 08/23/2008, -2/+24I just want know how why I keep hearing about his arrogance. He's the fastest man on earth. If he'd started showboating (which is the example I keep seeing cited) and ended up second, I would call him arrogant.
He broke 2 world records.
That doesn't make him arrogant. It makes him fast.- rheaume, on 08/23/2008, -9/+1Acting like a dink makes you.... a dink
Oh sorry, a GOLDEN dink - AZRoboto, on 08/23/2008, -11/+1He started to scream and hoot and holler before he even finished the 100m. Then he started to celebrate and dance. Maybe if he didn't showboat he could've had an even better record... just a thought.
Phelps broke...5 world records? And he always said good job to his fellow swimmers.- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+7He is the fastest man in the world. He can showboat all he wants.
- AZRoboto, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1What a role model he is.
- UntouchableC, on 08/23/2008, -0/+10AZ...a few things.
I don't think you even saw Phelps race....
Bolt already said he wasn't aiming for the world record 100m (but broke it anyway), he just wanted gold.
If being the fastest person on earth, by a sizable margin, is not a good reason to showboat....when is?
Why can't we just celebrate another historic gold medal performance, without bringing up new-found all american hero Phelps into the equation. There are other medalists in these games you know.- AresDiggs, on 08/23/2008, -7/+1"Why can't we just celebrate another historic gold medal performance, without bringing up new-found all american hero Phelps into the equation. Because if we don't have pride in our nation and its medalists... why do we have the Olympics? - Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+5I assume because he's American and he's jealous.
- AresDiggs, on 08/23/2008, -7/+1"Why can't we just celebrate another historic gold medal performance, without bringing up new-found all american hero Phelps into the equation. There are other medalists in these games you know."

video link anyone?- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2It's the second last day of the Olympics and we still haven't found out where to watch the Olympics. Digg from 4 years ago would have found it in a bolt.
- DirtyBinLV, on 08/23/2008, -2/+28This is at least as impressive as what Phelps did. A sprinter can run in 3 events, the 100, 200 and the 4x100. Bolt just set world records in 100% of them. Swimming happens to have a lot more similar events. I'm guessing there are many times more competitive runners in the world than there are swimmers. And how long have men been trying to run faster than each other? How long have they been doing the butterfly?
Both guy's accomplishments are unbelievably amazing.- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -2/+5I totally agree but why do so many people keep here keep on taking about Phelps? They are different sports. Oh Wait...I know... they are jealous and want the world stage to center upon Phelps and the usa.
- ekdevdas, on 08/23/2008, -2/+3hey did you see the british guy at the qualifiers today? what a jerk!
bolt is awesome though. he respects the competition.- rheaume, on 08/23/2008, -3/+1I think you got it inverted

- theWalrus, on 08/23/2008, -1/+7Bolt should run in the 4 x 400 relay and go for 4 Gold
- HammondOrgan, on 08/23/2008, -2/+3does that set the record for most 4's in one post?
- rheaume, on 08/23/2008, -6/+1I thought I heard he may not do it because he just wants to chill out. Nice, dont help your team or anything
- Daiken, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3Running 100 and 200m is a bit different than 400m. I'm sure with a bit of practice he would probably learn how to do that as well though.
- Syphon8, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Bolt's 400m PB at World Juniors was in the 45 range, so that actually might not be out of the question in the future.
- e2superman, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2So everyone said the pool caused all the new world records. Are people starting to complain about the track (sarcasm -- kinda).
- Peko, on 08/23/2008, -2/+1Dude. The LAZR suits caused the world records in the pool.
The running track has some "new" material which is very fast.- e2superman, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2Oh dear goodness. I heard the air has pixie dust from the refineries in China that speed up athletes as well.
- Syphon8, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Mondo is not new.
- Peko, on 08/23/2008, -2/+1Dude. The LAZR suits caused the world records in the pool.
- saqer, on 08/23/2008, -15/+2cocky bastard...if i were the president of the IOC I would've confiscated that gold. Showboatin SOB.
- arjie, on 08/23/2008, -1/+7He earned it. The Olympic races are to see who runs fastest, not who's the quietest. If you did that, you wouldn't be the president for long.
- saqer, on 08/23/2008, -8/+1The olympics are not only about who runs the fastest. It's about sportmanship and winning gracefully. Bolt has proven incompetent when it comes to winning with humility. He can't even congratulate his fellow competitors. You obviously have no clue about the olympics. The president of the IOC himself had a few comments to say about Bolt's bad behavior.
- playuhh, on 08/23/2008, -1/+6F*** YOU. IF THE USA TOOK THE GOLD YOU WOULDN'T BE SAYIN JACK ***** ABOUT THEM FLAUNTING IT.
AND AS FOR THE IOC! China--- oh BLESS YOU, CHINA! For doing a great job and for the way you treat people!
But this guy who embodies what the olympics STAND for... a true champion who is not the result of some grueling machine to churn out gold medals... and brought the honor to his country with a record shattering AMAZING performance...
and what about EVERY OTHER F***ing PERSON that won a gold medal? Get the F*** outta here.
HE EARNED THE RIGHT TO FLAUNT IT.
Sorry... people actually sayin ***** like this about Bolt got me FURIOUS...- saqer, on 08/23/2008, -3/+1you have obviously demonstrated you have no understanding of what 'class' is. This isn't about who won or who didn't. There is no 'right' to flaunt.
- arjie, on 08/23/2008, -1/+7He earned it. The Olympic races are to see who runs fastest, not who's the quietest. If you did that, you wouldn't be the president for long.
- Zapita, on 08/23/2008, -0/+26--He's pretty much keeping the Olympics alive post-Phelps.
hey, Phelps is not THE Olympics, yes it was exciting to see if he could get the 8 medals, but come on, enjoy everything else, Gymnastics, Diving, the rest of Athletics, Tae Kwon Do, Volleyball, etc- Ravatar, on 08/23/2008, -2/+15Okay look, I'm so ***** sick of everyone flipping out about a guy that can win the same race 4 times with different strokes. *****. Who gives a ***** about 8 medals when there are harder fought medal that are single medals in different events that are, to me, more of an honor.
- Daiken, on 08/23/2008, -1/+16I have to agree. Phelps is a great swimmer, no doubt, but it didn't feel that great considering how similar a lot of the events were for swimming. Running is a sport which has been around forever and is much more competitive. It's a sport which almost everyone can try for, where as swimming requires expensive facilities which people from poorer countries don't have access to. For me, Bolt has been a lot more exciting than Phelps was
- Suzpaz, on 08/23/2008, -10/+2[sarcasm]
Oh my god! He has to be a muslim terrorist! His name is Usain.... Remind you of anything *cough*hussain*cough*
I bet he's best friend with Hussein Obama too, and they plan their Muslim takeover of America and the Olympics!
[/sarcasm]- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -1/+1I know a lot of americans think that. Fu*k'n idiots.

Did he say "j/k I ran for fun, give the gold to the LOSERS HAHAHAH)
/Agrees with IOC chairmain, this guy is a little cocky- Ravatar, on 08/23/2008, -1/+7Become the fastest man in world history, then talk *****.
- playuhh, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4F*** YOU. Sound like you ***** WISH it was america... and i bet if it was YOU WOULDN'T BE SAYIN JACK ***** ABOUT HIM FLAUNTING IT.
Sorry... people actually sayin ***** like this about Bolt got me FURIOUS...- rheaume, on 08/23/2008, -2/+1Go ***** yourself, nobody gives a ***** about poor old Jamaica winning finally oh boo ***** hoo
btw, no ***** american either, I guess it makes it easier to assume anyone not sucking your wrinkled dick
is an american but hey, NEWSFLASH, people all over the world think Bolt acted like a dick. Suck it.
- rheaume, on 08/23/2008, -2/+1Go ***** yourself, nobody gives a ***** about poor old Jamaica winning finally oh boo ***** hoo
- chubbybubba, on 08/23/2008, -3/+34Phelps can be Aquaman, Bolt can be the Flash, and that weightlifter that broke his arm can be Elastic Man.
- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4you're great.
- JazJon, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2Video link please
- poorbusker, on 08/23/2008, -11/+1his on the juice. look at his times in the past year..not even close
- fearlessfx, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2Yeah... the Ganja juice
- JazJon, on 08/23/2008, -6/+1http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bolt+t ...
- Archaic1, on 08/23/2008, -9/+3Notice how they made him the 3rd runner of the 4? My theory is that the team wanted the world record, so they made sure not to place Bolt last where he might show off again before the race is over ;)
- ImperfectFreak, on 08/23/2008, -0/+11Or, since he runs the 200m even better than the 100m, one could theorize that he is very good at running curves.
- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3Notice how you're an american idiot who just wants to put down any country who might take a medal away from you.
- Archaic1, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Australian actually. I think you two might be reading a little too far into a light-hearted joke :S
- tjpoe, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3On the replay, it looked like the 2nd man crossed the outside lane pretty bad. are there no lane disqualification rules in the relay? or no outside line disqualification?
- Somedude2137, on 08/23/2008, -3/+12***** phelps... THIS is the real deal
- cabdirazzaq, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6So now they wont have to start a bobsled team?
- aliasfallen, on 08/23/2008, -0/+11Bolt kicks ass! True athlete - he donated $50K of his own money to Red Cross to help China earthquake victims. Very classy unlike the two Lopez brothers in tae-kwon-do who has no class (Mark Lopez didn't bow at the end of his match) and are sore losers (Steve Lopez filing a complaint because he didn't win gold - wah-wah).
- cdeye, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Bolt is a madman! Better video link.... http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/player.html?asset ...
- axalon, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2Thank you! I tried looking for it on NBC but it's as if they try to hide it from you.
- phatboye, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2***** NBC for not allowing me to watch it in Linux.
- Elephant789, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2I think this record will stand for a long time and hope it does.
- fremeer, on 08/23/2008, -1/+1nah be broken soon, bolt isnt even trying yet and some of the jamaicans were pretty piss poor.
- gr00vy, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/share.html?videoi ...
- sarahholmes, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1well done JA
- crowbarred, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4The man is [and will be] an absolute legend
- GaryChalmers, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6I can't believe the IOC would rather focus on how he celebrates his victories, rather than his accomplishments. Bunch of pricks.
- SeanRoss, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Add ***** the IOC to the list I guess?
- gnomead, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3I'm looking forward to the Winter Olympics. These guys will make a great Bobsled team.
- Syphon8, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2I couldn't believe how their 4x1 was organised. I would've thought they'd have 90/120/90/100 with Powell as anchor and Bolt as second. Have the fastest guy run the farthest, and make him run all the way through, and have the second fastest run it home...
- MrARPA, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Yes, that came across as strange to me as well. I can only assume that they have the times from training to back up their selection.
- theWalrus, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1it might have been becuase Bolt is so tall and it could be complicated to get a good change with Carter and Frater becuase they are short, changing with Powell would be easir because he is taller.
- MrARPA, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Yes, that came across as strange to me as well. I can only assume that they have the times from training to back up their selection.
