Olympics a ‘billion-dollar research lab’ for NBC
msnbc.msn.com — NBC is using the Olympics as a "billion-dollar research lab" to get a sense of how people are using different media platforms to experience the Beijing Games that begin Aug. 8.

- MadNuke, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5What?
- crackerjack20, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3Your momma touched me across all kinds of platforms last night, too.
- rationalbeats, on 07/07/2008, -8/+12Imagine if they spent that much to research the evidence for the Iraq war?
- zapperdude60, on 07/07/2008, -5/+3Imagine if they spent that on making sure digg comments are relevant.
- minorthreat, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1then you would not be posting comments
- zapperdude60, on 07/07/2008, -5/+3Imagine if they spent that on making sure digg comments are relevant.
- tangledinwire, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6We can rebuild NBC — we have the technology
- dagamer34, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Try to include less DRM and support more operating systems. k thanks!
- ohmahgawd, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7I'll use digg, and bury NBC links.
- shawntempesta, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3Imagine if they spent that much to do audience testing on some of their shows?
//"The Real Wedding Crashers" FTL- PopcornDave, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Or how about some writers before their awful dreck even gets to a screening. How many times can you rehash the same old sitcom ideas?
- YodaJones, on 07/07/2008, -12/+4***** the Olympics. Buried.
- crackerjack20, on 07/07/2008, -5/+3That's a good idea. They can use their billion dollar test lab to find out that most people I know don't give a rats ass about the Olympics.
- inverted7001, on 07/07/2008, -5/+3That much money spent to analyze an Olympics no one wants to watch... right.
- ivand67, on 07/07/2008, -7/+3They can hype it as much as they want. The Olympics will always suck. Nobody cares about ***** like that when we got the best sports leagues of all the best team sports right here in the US. (Except for soccer).
- dezholling, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Our basketball team got owned in the Olympics last time around.
- senatorpjt, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3I could tell you how people are "using different media platforms to experience the Olympics", and I won't even charge you a billion dollars: They're using different media platforms to not watch the Olympics the same way they do with TV.
- cappiello, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Powered by Silverlight and I don't see a fullscreen option. Boo!
- eSentrik, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I hate this thread.
- dmourati, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Olympics rule. I don't know what you naysayers are talking about.
- PopcornDave, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Given NBC's past performance, you're going to be able to use all sorts of media to watch the back stories of the athletes and very little of the actual games.
With the problems that Victoria's Secret had with their show streaming attempts is NBC going to limit their streaming to just the US or are they going to try for worldwide? And yes I do realize that more people want to watch women parade around in their underwear than watch a bunch of people running around competing in events, but I'm still curious if NBC has taken possible worldwide viewership in to account. - YodaJones, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Does anybody in here actually know someone who cares about the Olympics?
- zippy757, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2they should research why they just wasted $1 billion on the games that no one is going to watch....other than potentially to see people coughing and wheezing
- artzylady, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Obviously NBC has figured it out. Good for them! The question is will the other major networks follow suit? Let's hope they will in our lifetime!
- ChayesFSS, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1funny, they won't see me using a proxy and surfing over the the ***** BBC because silverlight ***** sucks ass
