- drewedman, on 08/28/2008, -3/+1whatever digg me down. I don't really have any interest in this fight at all.. I won't be paying attention to it.
- idiotech, on 08/28/2008, -4/+7Are you kidding? De La Hoya does not need the money... he's trying to leave his legacy with a convincing finishing blow.
- DeadPain, on 08/28/2008, -1/+21Heh, except that Pacquiao is gonna beat the crap out of De La Hoya
- thatsmyaibo, on 08/28/2008, -1/+2I hope so. I can't stand Oscar. He looks like an old man in the ring and if he hasn't been knocked out in his last few fights, he won by favoring judges. I hope Pacman lays him out so it can't be disputed.
- damack, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2I hope your right the only reason De La Hoya is even taking this fight is because he thinks Pacman will be an easy fight for him since he's a hell of a lot smaller and DLH is a pretty big dude in any respect.
- idiotech, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1Well, I hear what you're saying (Pacquaio currently being the boxer in his prime, so he should beat de la hoya) but we can't overlook the weight factor.
So many greats have moved up and lost to totally under-qualified opponents in the higher weight class. Now, the fact that Oscar is even remotely talented (actually, he is very talented, and still very quick too) means this fight could be serious trouble for Pacquaio - or, at the very least: this is going to be a very interesting bout!
- impokinya, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6de la hoya is a punk. of course he is doing it for the money & because he thinks pacquiao will be an easy fight. if de la hoya really wanted to make his mark he would fight margarito, who has already called him out. but de la hoya won't fight margarito because of the ass whoopin he gave cotto. nobody wants to fight margarito.
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Who wants to fight margarito?
- Blandyman, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Nobody.
- idiotech, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1How is he a punk?
It's not for the money, any boxing expert will tell you that. It hasn't really been about money for Oscar for quite some time. If he beat Floyd, there's a good chance he'd be retired now.
I mean, this is simple stuff, that any real boxing fan knows...
He's among the super rich, man. It's hard to call 20-30 million insignificant, but relatively to other boxers, the money doesn't mean as much to Oscar. He could make a ***** load of money fighting anyone... he played a few games, by publicy asking others to fight... but really he just wanted to get Floyd or Manny to accept the challenge, because they are the best. He wants to beat the best, and leave. Duh.
Why do you think he wanted to fight Floyd in a rematch? Because it's "easier" and "for the money"??? You think Margarito is tougher than Floyd? Was he dodging Antonio then too? lol.
- PolishLogic, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5Judging by those photos, I'm sure he's quite adept at blowing.
- DeadPain, on 08/28/2008, -1/+21Heh, except that Pacquiao is gonna beat the crap out of De La Hoya
- kurupttek, on 08/28/2008, -17/+10Pacquiao is going to beat De La Hoya Ass again!
- faceless323, on 08/28/2008, -0/+17Again? They have never fought.
- thedogfatherx, on 08/28/2008, -21/+4People still watch boxing? Regardless, De La Hoya is always fun to watch. I won't be paying to watch it though.
- xxl3w, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6uhh, you watch de la hoya, so someone must still watch boxing.
- swrostmore, on 08/28/2008, -18/+4Nobody who's young enough to know how to use digg cares about boxing, this must be paid advertising.
- chihpih, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6im 29 and i care about boxing!
this is gonna be one hell of a fight, it will be manny's biggest pay day ever. i think the most he got for his previous fight was like 5 milz.
de la hoya will earn $60-70 million as a fighter then probably another 50-100 as a promoter (he owns his own promotion company).
he has plenty of money ;)- swrostmore, on 08/28/2008, -3/+3If the most exciting aspect of the sport is how much money the athletes make, you know you are in trouble. Boxing is weak and on its way out.

- BookmasterIce, on 08/28/2008, -3/+2You're skill in vocabulary has decreased -10
- aschepis, on 08/28/2008, -1/+13This is great! Whether you like Oscar or not, you really can't say that he hasn't always tried to take on the best fighters and take on the biggest fights. Manny is the #1 boxer in the world pound-for-pound right now.
Now the bad news for Oscar.... His career is full of great fights against great fighters where he always came up a little bit short. I have a feeling that this fight against Pacquiao will end in similar manner. I predict a victory for Pacquiao on points. Probably unanimous.- ColonelJessup, on 08/28/2008, -4/+0I think it's great too, but I think that Mayweather is the number 1 p4p right now.
Anyways, I agree that Pacman will take this one on points. I have always liked DLH and it should be a great fight, but Pacman is just too fast for DLH. You saw him against Floyd, he looked slow and old. Against Manny he will look the same.
I wish Oscar would just stop fighting, it's not like he needs money or anything.- AmadelaJake, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6Mayweather is retired so Manny took that spot as the #1 pound-for-pound.
- aschepis, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2i would agree on mayweather if not for his "retirement"
- socalftw, on 08/28/2008, -1/+7Pacquiao will knock Oscar the ***** out. It won't come down to points.
- gweller, on 08/28/2008, -1/+1Extremely unlikely. Oscar has a rock solid chin and Manny doesn't hit nearly as hard as some of the people Oscar has faced.
- MasterPain, on 08/28/2008, -1/+1Pacquiao is a great fighter but he has come up alot in weight. I think it will be a good fight but I think Oscar will knock him out.
- koanage, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6Uhh, no. Oscar is fighting Pacman because casual fans don't understand that it's a joke of a fight. Pac has to move up TWO weights, after only being at the weight he is now for one fight against an average fighter. His last fight before moving up in weight ended in controversy, where most thought he lost or at best got a draw against Marquez. Once Oscar wins, which he should, he will imply that he is a top pound for pound fighter and the uninformed will believe it. Pac isn't on the same planet as far as Floyd in terms of skillfully boxing, avoiding punches, etc. His whole thing is overwhelming dudes that are his size with speed, power and tenacity. Oscar, who has shown an iron chin against guys up to 160lbs won't care much about that. Pac has to fight the perfect fight to have a chance.
If Digg were a boxing focused site, Oscar's reputation would be very similar to GWB.
- ColonelJessup, on 08/28/2008, -4/+0I think it's great too, but I think that Mayweather is the number 1 p4p right now.
- faceless323, on 08/28/2008, -0/+9This will be a good fight. But I was looking for De La Hoya vs Margarito, especially after Margarito beat Cotto.
- ColonelJessup, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3That would be a great fight. I agree.
- RobertJoseph17, on 08/28/2008, -0/+7Oscar's not gonna fight another Mexican for his last match. This is the biggest fight he could have made, and I've already taken the weekend off to go to Vegas to watch it.
- otto989, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5Pacquiao's toppled 3 Mexican champions. No way there could be a better sendoff for De La Hoya. if he wins.
go Manny! i'll be watching with lumpia in hand.
- otto989, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5Pacquiao's toppled 3 Mexican champions. No way there could be a better sendoff for De La Hoya. if he wins.
- impokinya, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3thank you, finally someone who knows a thing or two about boxing.
- browe07, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Margarito would punish De La Hoya. I can't blame De La Hoya for not fighting him, especially when you can make more money on a much smaller fighter.
- TeflonFong, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1De La Hoya is DUCKING. Margarito would have been the perfect fight- pass the torch to a fellow Mexican and walk away proud.
- AchaIemoipas, on 08/28/2008, -12/+7Boxing = MMA/8.

- thatsmyaibo, on 08/28/2008, -3/+1MMA is not actually MMA. It's street brawling at best.
- Attol, on 08/28/2008, -2/+11Go wear an Affliction shirt.
- damndj, on 08/28/2008, -2/+24Whoah. Oscar is going to get torn apart.
- TomGfromCanada, on 08/28/2008, -10/+1Oscar De La Hoya wins, no KO
- mavranos, on 08/28/2008, -2/+7Pacquiao is looking at his Hatton fight as a tune-up for De La Hoya? Hmmm. Pacquiao gets hit A LOT. Wonder how he will deal with the extra pop at welterweight? Guess we'll see. Not like he is undefeated, and a fight with Oscar would be a big payday. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!
- FrizzleyFry, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5What are you talking about? Pacquiao is not fighting Hatton. Hatton is fighting Malignaggi It doesn't even mention Hatton in the article.
- mavranos, on 08/28/2008, -1/+4No it doesn't mention it- but there was talk around boxing sites of Pacquiao- Hatton in November- which I suppose would be off if the De La Hoya fight is signed.
Which would mean Pacquiao stepping up to welterweight right into De La Hoya.
- mavranos, on 08/28/2008, -1/+4No it doesn't mention it- but there was talk around boxing sites of Pacquiao- Hatton in November- which I suppose would be off if the De La Hoya fight is signed.
- SDM187, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3I think its de la hoya who should be concerned about the extra pop from manny's weight. every time manny has stepped up in class he's been just as strong, if not stronger than the class before. also, his 2 losses were from like 10 years ago when he was still fighting in the philipines, had no real training and was caught on counter punches while coming in. lucky shots. no way oscar can swing that left hook out fast enough to catch manny off balance like that now. no way. did anyone even see his last fight? de la hoya struggles to beat anyone these days. when's the last big de la hoya fight that he actually won?? vargas was 7 years ago...
- FrizzleyFry, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5What are you talking about? Pacquiao is not fighting Hatton. Hatton is fighting Malignaggi It doesn't even mention Hatton in the article.
- chubbybubba, on 08/28/2008, -1/+17Alot of people are complaining that De La Hoya should fight Margarito, but who wants to see Margarito beat up on a great but fading Golden boy.
Alot of people are complaining that Pac is way too small, but pac has never fought someone stronger than him. It's time to see what pacquiao can do when he's a true physical underdog.
Alot of people are complaining that Oscar is just in it for the money. If its his last fight why shouldn't it be?
This fight makes alot of sense for both fighters. For De la hoya (even as the favorite) it can cap his career with a win and a paycheck. For Pac a win would legitimize his p4p status and garner him the money he deserves for future fights.
I say, Lets get ready to rumble. And everyone else... quit your whining.- impokinya, on 08/28/2008, -1/+2i want to see margarito kick the ***** out of de la hoya, he's a punk.
- Danzinger, on 08/28/2008, -4/+5As long as it's more exciting than De La Hoya vs Mayweather, that was the most boring fight I`ve ever seene. For the most part I am an MMA fan but I fell into the hype and went to a bar to go watch it. Not impressed at all.
- BookmasterIce, on 08/28/2008, -3/+4I was picking the lint off my socks during that fight. Yawn.
- gweller, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Can't blame DLH for that fight. Mayweather is just too good at running away.

- trer, on 08/28/2008, -2/+2Excellent! On big fight nights, casinos must keep double the cash reserves they usually have in their vaults. If someone can supply a pinch, I guarantee riches for all who join with me! Huzzah!

- TheDarkTemplar, on 08/28/2008, -1/+12Good move to Skip the olympics by Manny. The Phillipines would have paid him $250K for winning gold, but he stands to make millions from a fight against De La Hoya! This should be a good fight since both fighters have lightning speed and hard punches, it won't be a boring heavy weight fight.
- commitone, on 08/28/2008, -1/+3Boxing pros aren't allowed to fight in the olympics.

- cantaclaro, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5Man that last De La Hoya fight was like watching two millionaires shadow box each other for 12 rounds. Complete waste of time and money. Every shot he threw slid right the off the other guy and vice versa. I don't think either one of them ever connected.
We need to get back to the days of Heavyweight blood matches man. Riddick Bo, Holyfield, Foreman, Tyson, Spinx.
What happened to boxing and why does anyone care to watch another one of these ***** fights.- Waiting2awake, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4There are still awesome fights out there, but you aren't going to get them from the old multimillionaires. There is no hunger there anymore.
But ya, back in the 90's there was some serious HW talent.

Anyway pretty good choice by De La Hoya. He's got a decent shot to pull it off and it will seem like quite the achievement if he does. - cowboy77061, on 08/28/2008, -9/+2is Pacquiao some kind of Chinese/Mexican mix?

- drez24, on 08/28/2008, -2/+3De La Hoya is lame. Pernell Whittaker gave Oscar a shot at the end of his career, and Sweet Pea was fighting at 147 at the time. Julio Ceasar Chavez gave Oscar a shot at the end of his career (the first time), and he was Oscar's size at the time. Oscar has said recently that he wants to be in a war, a real battle. Well, why not give Margarito a shot? He would definitely get the was he's looking for. Go Manny!

http://www.ahba2b.com - Mattwdj, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1This is going to be a GREAT fight. Im a huge fan of both, but im still a bigger ODLH fan. The reason ive got think ODLH can pull this off is becuase he generally does well against brawlers. but Manny is a special bread, hes extremely fast, has a solid chin and insane power. well see how manny does moving up in wieght. I CANT NOT WAIT!!!
- gweller, on 08/28/2008, -0/+0Styles make fights and Pacquiao is the perfect style for DLH. DLH has always had an easy time beating offensive sluggers like Pacquiao, and it's going to be even easier given that Pacquiao will be much smaller
- petaganayr, on 08/28/2008, -1/+1Pac-Man all the way!! Filipino all the way!!
- yammy1688, on 08/28/2008, -0/+0De La Hoya is the man. To move between weight classes is hard enough, but to do so and fight the best fighters from each one is worthy of praise, regardless of the outcome. Most people don't realize how much heart, dedication, and courage it takes to be a fighter.
- ErickStevenson, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Yah I guess Pacman is just a nobody... Both are great fighters so anything can go, but I have to admit DLH has some advantages over Pacman, but Pacman always surprises me in his fights...
- snoobies, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Great, Another fight where Oscar parades around the ring like a ballerina scoring points by only throwing jabs. He's just uses his reach. DLH is boring to watch. I haven't seen DLH do a good combo since. ***** since, Ceasar.
