The Best Finishes in College Sports History
fanmanual.com — From the "Miracle Minute" , fans charging the field, convinced the game was over, to a school of 900 students pulling out out a championship from 7 behind with seconds left against the team with the longest winning streak ever in DII basketball. Yes, ever.

- Pawfoots, on 05/16/2008, -7/+1Good to see some North Carolina teams in the mix (Barton and Duke), although I am myself a Carolina Fan.
- dazzlindonna, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1Great collection of spectacular sports moments.
- Alix7, on 05/16/2008, -9/+2Should be titled, "List of teams which got way too much poon tang after the game"
- lkmbrd, on 05/16/2008, -11/+19No Appalachian State vs. Michigan? Buried.
- homah, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7Eh, I'm not sure that I would classify it as one of the greatest finishes. Obviously, it should be near the top of the biggest upsets list, though.
- mecharabbit, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4...or Kordell Stewart's hail Mary to end Colorado vs. Michigan in 1994? Dammit, and I'm a Wolverines fan.
- jmpeagle, on 05/16/2008, -2/+7that was an upset not a spectacular finish
- loobis, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Didn't App State block a kick in the final seconds and run it back to secure the win?
- lkmbrd, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Yeah, they did. It was quite the "spectacular finish" as they say.
- loobis, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Didn't App State block a kick in the final seconds and run it back to secure the win?
- ShooterMcGavin, on 05/16/2008, -4/+17Nothing will ever compare to being at the Fiesta Bowl and watching my team pull that game off. Period. End of story.
http://jasonhaberman.com/index.php/2007/01/03/why- ...- dafragsta, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Thanks for vilifying my team in the Cinderella story for the ages. ;)
- ShooterMcGavin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1At least you can take solace that if you weren't "Oklahoma", that game wouldn't have been near as special. I mean, if we happened to pull that off against, say Utah State, it doesn't even make the papers.
It sucks to be on the wrong end, but at least you were involved. If that makes any sense.
- ShooterMcGavin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1At least you can take solace that if you weren't "Oklahoma", that game wouldn't have been near as special. I mean, if we happened to pull that off against, say Utah State, it doesn't even make the papers.
- candafilm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2The Fiesta Bowl was just the perfect ending to an incredible season. Boise State is just a blast to watch. It's too bad Paul J probably won't be doing the radio announcing anymore.
- dafragsta, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Thanks for vilifying my team in the Cinderella story for the ages. ;)
- peoplerstoopid, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Awesome list, glad to see BSU vs Oklahoma. I was bouncing at Tom Grainey's in Boise on the Fiesta Bowl night....watching the game at the bar and when BSU won the bar just exploded...then came the street party. You couldn't even move in the bar it was so packed and the streets were worse. One of the wildest finishes and best games I've ever seen
- bovice870, on 05/16/2008, -9/+0GO OREGON DUCKS
- godzillaWax, on 05/16/2008, -3/+19Buried for all the Duke.

- ahoyhoy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Dugg for Duke burial.
- RSS14, on 05/16/2008, -1/+11I don' think this is as big league as the games in the article, but this was an amazing basket.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMV_gvBwL1g- goeric, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1LOL that's awesome.
- SilenceGold, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Same man duplicated it few days later on local news!
- DiggLive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4I love when underdogs win. The reaction from the announcers and players is the best!

My favorite chant the following season when the Ground Squirrels would come to town = "Ho-ly Cro-ss, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap"
Never saw/heard the video until now. Sweet. I hope it haunts them forever. - HotSlag, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I was at that game, it was fantastic. Being at UND, we just wanted the Gophers to lose. But it was amazing how the underdogs essentially got a home ice crowd, and used it to their advantage to take down the top seed.
- pschommer, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1*Wisconsin hockey fan*
- Cerebron, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1So many forward passes, Cal totally lost that Big Game. :p
- sherbertbones, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Another Stanfurd fan...
- Pete1the1gamer, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1Dugg for being SUUU WEEEET
- mkterp, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3I was at the Maryland game. It's known as "Gone in 54 Seconds"... brutal. And the game was at Cole Field House - the blogger incorrectly acts as if it was at Cameron Indoor. Fans just sat there in shock after the game. The Terps did spoil Shane Battier's senior night a few weeks later, at least.
- ahoyhoy, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Yep. If Maryland is known for anything, it's our great blown loses.
- flipz4, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0But the Blue Devils did get the last laugh in the Final Four. Down 22 points and came back to win, then went on to win the Championship.
- WoWii, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5I don't see a clip of Mario Chalmers...
- homah, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Duke/MD is far too high at #3, but not a bad list.
- sandersdamnit, on 05/16/2008, -2/+18All I have to say is ***** DUKE!
- jayhawk88, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Oh come on, how can you leave out "Hail Mary", Colorado v. Michigan '96?
- homah, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1If you're going to include that, you have to include Flutie and BC against Miami in the Orange Bowl and a handful of other games as well. I would have preferred this as a top 25 list or something that included more games.
- phife2002, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3No Colorado-Michigan? It was THE CATCH!
- sinurgy, on 05/16/2008, -2/+3I can't believe they left out that Texas High School Football State championship game from about 10 years ago. In a nutshell, one team was down something ridiculous like 35 points in the 4th quarter. They scored, did an onside kick, got it and scored again. This repeated 4 times and they actually took the lead with only seconds left on the clock. AMAZING comeback!! Then they kicked off, the other team ran it all the way back to win the game after all. Yes you read that right, they came back all that way back just to lose it on kick return for a TD with time expiring.
Talk about a mind *****!- finalcut, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1that is the best ending I have ever seen - I keep the link to the video handy just becuase the announcers make me laugh:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHkABO0VwCg&eurl=
Fantastic finish - peoplerstoopid, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0I've seen that....it was so dissapointing because you were backing this team that was coming back to win from way behind then...poof, the sound of dreams being crushed.
- homah, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5This is just the best finishes in college sports.
- sinurgy, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Duh you're right, it says right there in the title. I just automatically jump to that game anytime I hear anything about best finishes in sports. I should have read more closely. Oh well, it's still an amazing finish!
@finalcut: btw...thanks for providing that link. Those announcers are hilarious but I think they were conveying what everyone else was feeling. It was almost painful to watch!

- sleeknerve, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Since when is high school college
- finalcut, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1that is the best ending I have ever seen - I keep the link to the video handy just becuase the announcers make me laugh:
- jwoelmer2, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2wish they would have given some dates for these games- I can't remember half of them
- rblancarte, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6Not bad. You could put about 30 more finishes on that list. Being a Longhorn fan, I would have to say that 2006 Rose Bowl was pretty good.
- dafragsta, on 05/16/2008, -3/+3Ugh. I don't even have to click and I know there is going to be something about Boise State beating a certain team in overtime with a statue of liberty.
Edit: I *****' knew it. - peoplerstoopid, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3What about that division AA school that had the 15 laterals to win the game....god who was that?
- dwninjungleland, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It was Trinity University in Texas. Sweet game-- kind of upset that didn't make the list.
- sleeknerve, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Agree, that was a fantastic finish
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Illinois vs. Arizona 2004 Final Four
IMO is the best comeback ever
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmrvVQFGFlY- walkingdogs, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1It was the elite 8. I was there and couldn't believe what I was watching.
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1My mistake in calling it the Final Four indeed it was an amazing game I could hardly believe it.
- theotheragentm, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2What? No love for Chris Webber's last second timeout? You know, the one the team didn't actually have to give.
- sherbertbones, on 05/16/2008, -1/+6That Cal/Stanford game still gives me chills. Go Bears!
- sleeknerve, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2HE WAS DOWN!
my aunt was on the band when it ran on the field, surely a moment she will never forget
- sleeknerve, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2HE WAS DOWN!
- joebruin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I am partial to the 2006 NCAA tournament UCLA vs. Gonzaga. Gus Johnson call on it was epic.
"After being down by 17, Heart! Break! City!"
"UCLA has climbed the mountain!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt0VUSyVIr4- Stumble02, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0I still get chills thinking about that game.
Too bad Florida had to go and ruin it....twice....
- Stumble02, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0I still get chills thinking about that game.
- jhammonds, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4I have to agree with the second comment on the page. No NC State vs. Houston (Phi Slama Jama). Buried. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNQ6JZpjdTY
- reynolds3g, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3The Duke-Maryland description is completely inaccurate. Shane Battier didn't even foul out in that game, he played the whole overtime, he can be seen numerous times in the clip. And that wasn't in Cameron Indoor(Duke's home court), that game was at Maryland. Get your facts straight. And the clip ends with no team having won, wtf? Isn't this best "finishes"? That game had 5 more minutes. Oh yeah, Duke sucks!
- tysoho, on 05/16/2008, -0/+11985 Alabama vs. Auburn: The 50th renewal of this storied rivalry is known simply as "The Kick!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2z8-i2YYQg - Ryan2845, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Had it been a game winning shot it would qualify, but they played another 5 minutes after that shot. Thus, it doesn't qualify for the best "finish" category.
- lazydrumhead, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Literally no story behind the youtube clips (year? tournament??)
Also inacurrate: Shane Battier had not fouled out - sq2shooter, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1That Oklahoma/Boise game was by far the best ending to any game I ever watched. I remember sitting there with my friends and we were all looking at each other like we couldn't believe what we just witnessed. But all those finishes on that list were epic.
- jizzypop, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4where the hell is LSU vs Kentucky (the Bluegrass Miracle) ????
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7GP2QGA3kto - fotoman, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Texas over USC for the NCAA Football title in the Rose Bowl?

http://fr.video.yahoo.com/watch/1382615 - Miamisun, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Cal v Stanford had an absolutely amazing finish. That first one is new to me. Great comeback.

Omaha Lancers vs. ?
0.1 seconds left...shot to win...GOAL! - SmellyFingers, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1This guy is obviously from NC. Two Duke games and the Barton game. Hell, I live literally 5 minutes from Barton in NC and nobody thinks it's the best college finish of all time.
- Choop, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Screw Boise State..... GO BULLDOGS!!
Fresno State Baby!!- sleeknerve, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Im a season ticket holder for the bulldogs, but you have to admit, that was a fantastic finish, in fact, i was rooting for them. Fresno State ended up getting $250,000 out of that game also.
- rayzor127, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Sorry, but this list is incomplete without Doug Flutie's amazing pass for Boston College against Miami.
It's considered one of the greatest college football games ever but whomever created this list is biased and not very knowledgable. - BobTheTaco, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1This doesn't beat #1 but 3-5 were poorly picked
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qx9rBOlubPQ
KENNY WHEATONS GONNA SCORE! - amdahlj, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Any list where The Play isn't #1 is a joke.
- Kr05eSuks, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2boise -ou....no way
Texas -USC for all the marbles..greatest game ever!! - deweyhewson, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2No BYU vs. SMU in the 1980 Holiday Bowl? Are you kidding me? That is, by far, the greatest comeback in the history of college sports. And I'm not even a fan of either team.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b55Tn_YbLK8- canasian, on 05/17/2008, -0/+0I ditto that. That blew my mind. Also, the '83 Holiday Bowl with Steve Young catching that halfback pass to win wasn't too bad either.
