Top 25 Athletes In Bewildering Uniforms
bestweekever.tv — With Brett Favre headed to the Jets less than a week after Ken Griffey Jr. joined the White Sox and Manny Ramirez packed his bags for Los Angeles, now is as good a time as any to take a look back at some images of star athletes clad in absolutely bewildering uniforms.

- mk3k, on 08/08/2008, -4/+2Can't believe jesus in the outfield went to the Yankees. A sad day that was.
- NoelGallagher, on 08/08/2008, -1/+11Get in line.
Damon was a Royal before you even knew his name.- jmas9, on 08/08/2008, -10/+3Who are you kidding? Teams like the Royals are just the farm systems for the major market teams in baseball.
- PlayingGangsta, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6And an Athletic for a season. Where he logged the lowest batting average of his career.
- jmas9, on 08/08/2008, -3/+3Looks like Jesus, Acts like Judas, Throws like Mary.....
- GorgarFanClub, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2I think Boggs beat him to it 15 years ago.
- bffoley, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Someone who always said it was his dream to play for the Yankees signed up with them when given the chance? Oh no!!!!
- fishrjv, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1The Sox had their chance to resign him. Their loss.
- PimpSetBitch, on 08/08/2008, -1/+0Damon should have known that varitek was a bigger priority than damon. Damon SHOULD have waited before that was taken cared of. Instead he just signs with the yankees out of the blue. Im not as pissed at boggs because the sox didn't win a championship yet and boggs wanted a ring before he retired which is understandable.
But Damon left on bad terms. The yanks can keep him and ***** arm - iamdan1, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Right, because without him they would have never won another world series...

- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2and we still haven't figured out RBs over the age of 30 aren't worth a damn.
- jmaxxf8191, on 08/08/2008, -2/+16Should Karl Malone be more ashamed for leaving the Jazz for the Lakers or his illegitimate children?
- Cattywampus, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8The Jazz team should be ashamed for taking that name with them when they moved to Utah. "Utah Jazz" just sounds like an oxymoron.
As does "Los Angeles Lakers" (lakes in L.A.? where?).- wit21, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Agreed. Team names should stay with the city, not with the team. Though I should say, as a Jazz fan, I'm glad they didn't get the chance to call them the "Pioneers" or "Missionaries" or some other ***** name.
- deweyhewson, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3No, you don't understand, in Utah every sports team has to have Z's in the name, it's some kind of law or something: Jazz, Grizzlies, Blaze, Buzz (for a while), Starzz, etc.
I guess we could have had the Pioneerzz, The Mizzionariez, but, please, don't give them any ideas. - Cybermaul, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Oh, please, no more 'zz' team names!
- andreaw818, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0Guess the Utah Mormonzz wasn't marketable enough for the NBA.

- NoelGallagher, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Blame the Raiders on this one. He wanted to play and they wouldn't let him. Granted there was somebody named BO there at the time.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1he left for the chiefs long after bo's hip injury.
- wit21, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3He may have played his best days with the Raiders, but he chose to go into the HOF as a Chief. Chalk it up to Al Davis. That guy can really ***** up a team (I offer The Raiders as evidence).

- Dronez, on 08/08/2008, -16/+3This is interesting... why?
- Cattywampus, on 08/08/2008, -0/+13Because it's a break from all the election spam that's usually on the Digg front page.
- dalnet22, on 08/08/2008, -0/+8Hard to explain; ya just gotta get it.
- santaliqueur, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6You chose you form your question in reverse, why?
- trer, on 08/08/2008, -3/+12Joe Montana - Chiefs
Jerry Rice - Raiders, Seahawks - Artagnan, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2Wow, I love the bonus because it's hilarious and true.
- blackinthmiddle, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1If I remember that story correctly, they're paying her four times the amount of money she would make in the states. The WNBA doesn't pay, so she took her talents overseas.
- emehrkay, on 08/08/2008, -2/+13Mike on the WIzards gets a bad rap. He was very solid at small forward. He just wasn't "Mike Jordan," but was still better than 90% of the league.
- average650, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4You have a very good point. I don't know about better than 90% but definatly good.
- dalnet22, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4This was more a testament to how bad the league was, rather than his ability level at the time.
- blackinthmiddle, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I don't think the point is to mention whether or not he was still great. However, that last shot over Russell, in many people's mind, was a freakin' story book ending to a story book career...and then he decided at 40 to play for the Wizards!
- cusoman, on 08/08/2008, -0/+8FTA - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuf-1GRhKsc
Man, that was a great commercial. "65 degrees down field"! Wow! Funny too that the jersey he ended up in when they touted the trade feature was a Jets jersey. Seems to be the place to go for washed up old QB legends :P - average650, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2Definatly have to go with Brett Farve to the Jets, and Johnny U to the chargers should have been higher, but then again, he didn't really play much there.
- airrore, on 08/08/2008, -0/+10Boomer Esiason's stint as a Jet was bewildering to a confused young Bengal fan.
[I know, you'd have to be confused to BE a Bengal fan. Those were some rough years.] - drmangrum, on 08/08/2008, -9/+2How, exactly are these uniforms bewildering? Some are ugly, but they're not confusing.
Or did you mean the athlete IN the uniform? Be specific.- FonzsXe, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6The article meant bewildering in how akward the athlete looked in it....not literally the jersey looking funny by itself you moron.
- whatisnotmyname, on 08/08/2008, -3/+0uhm, no, you moron. (a) neither the title nor anything in the article even suggests the context you read into it. (b) the concept behind "bewildering" in this context is that for the most parts, they're wearing uniforms they're not traditionally associated with. This includes teams they played with briefly, teams they "betrayed" their fans by signing with, etc.
It's like Favre wearing a Jets uniform. It is unusual because it is not what he is associated with.

On topic, Favre should have stayed retired.- johnnyblazepw, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3all these numbered lists today? Thats digg every day
- huckdizz, on 08/08/2008, -10/+3You'll always remember Jerry Rice in his prime with the Raiders??? Sorry, he was in his prime with the 49ers. After the knee injury he was good, but not in his prime.

- cawpin, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Buried for referring to "The Catch" as a routine fly ball. He held the runner at second, folks.
- xmod3, on 08/08/2008, -5/+1Manny Ramirez...... best hitter the world has ever seen in the last 30 years (including post season).
And don't give me crap about Barry Bonds, A-rod or McGuire. Manny owns all of them when it comes to post-season performance. - 2NYC3, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2"If he hadn’t switched sports, the aliens would’ve stolen his talent, we would’ve lost that intergalactic game, and the aliens would be raping our wives and daughters as we speak."

- whatisnotmyname, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1correction, Digg has turned into a ***** collection of large top 10 lists.
Just wanted to clear that up for you. I remember the day when these young Digg members were all proud of how much better the content was here than on fark, slashdot, reddit and any other similar site. Now they just put up top ten lists, which for some reason usually end up with many comments saying "I don't usually digg top ten lists, but this one was good"
- whatisnotmyname, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1correction, Digg has turned into a ***** collection of large top 10 lists.
- mynameisjonas, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3i still say Johnny Unitas as a charger is one of the weirdest sights in sports.
- mlvassallo, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1The ***** part about the Jerry Rice deal was the total caving of the Seahawk's Organization when it came to "unretireing" Steve Largent's number 80. No other player, not even Jerry Rice, should have worn the Seahawks 80 jersey.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1steve largent was asked if rice could wear his #80 and he was 100% behind it. it wasn't too weird to me because it's a different color scheme than when largent played. it would be weird if they wore throwbacks.
- mlvassallo, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3There are several interviews where he said he felt pressure to make a PR move. Largent maybe class, but the Organization should have respected one of their only truly great former players.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1i have not heard anything about that. link?
i think the current organization has done nothing but respect former players. bringing kenny easley back to raise the 12th man flag in '05 after the team doctors ***** up his kidneys was a huge step in that direction. i couldn't be happier with the organization.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1steve largent was asked if rice could wear his #80 and he was 100% behind it. it wasn't too weird to me because it's a different color scheme than when largent played. it would be weird if they wore throwbacks.
- PlayingGangsta, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4Jordan never actually played for the White Sox. Just in their organization for the Birmingham Barons.
Also... Babe Ruth played 28 games in his final season with the Boston Braves. - nick2, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5Seeing Favre in a jersey besides the Packers will be strange. I am 19 and live in Wisconsin, Favre has been starting QB since I was 3.
- GorgarFanClub, on 08/08/2008, -3/+119. LOL - You're old.
- ausfahrt, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2Another trippy one would be when Jordan wore the number 12 as a Chicago Bull because someone had stolen all his jerseys from the visitors locker room. Also that time he was wearing the 45 because his own number 23 was retired.
- ScottyDontKnow, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Jersey #23 should have been retired league wide, Not just on Chicago. Like 99 is retired in the NHL
- ausfahrt, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Totally agree with you there. Lebron is rad and I'm not taking anything away from him but it was dumb picking 23 especially being that he is good and a super star, it just looks like you are trying too hard to be something you can't be. MJ's legacy is untouchable.
- ScottyDontKnow, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Jersey #23 should have been retired league wide, Not just on Chicago. Like 99 is retired in the NHL
- theparttime, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3cool article. i grew to like jordan on the wizards. gotta give the guy props for trying.
- LoudMusic, on 08/08/2008, -2/+2A little more background info would have been nice. Only a few of them I understood why it was so bewildering.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3good list but some that were left out...
patrick ewing as a sonic
ricky henderson as a blue jay, padre, angel, met, mariner, red sox & dodger
gary payton as a buck, laker, celtic & heat- troyfoley, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2is this rickey henderson?
- Sky0001000, on 08/08/2008, -7/+4Maybe I'm just sports - illiterate; but that was the lamest *****... ever. ... wtf was that?
- SnuKs, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Totally different list but Sonics in Oklahoma?!
- bullsfan03, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1"This here Karl Malone"

I see what you did there.

- GiJoeBob, on 08/08/2008, -1/+3I'm bewildered as to why these uniforms are considered bewildering.
- blackinthmiddle, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1It's not the uniform. It's the player wearing them. For the last 15 years or so, when you thought of Green Bay Packers, you thought of Brett Favre. To see him in a uniform other than the Packers will just seem weird. That's the kind of thing they're referring to. Like the Joker working to rid Gotham City of crime. You'd think you were in Bizzaro world or something. Got it?
- GiJoeBob, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Yeah, except the title of the article is "Top 25 Athletes In Bewildering Uniforms" and not "Top 25 Bewildering Athletes In Uniforms."

- ScottyDontKnow, on 08/08/2008, -1/+3I wish the NBA retired the # 23 league wide not just for Chicago. Like the NHL retired #99 for Gretzky.
- Jeffler, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Regarding the hockey ones for people who are unaware.
- Howe was obviously not 83 when he played with the Whalers. HOWEVER, he was still the oldest player in history at 52. He would also play one shift in a semi-pro game at 69 for the Detroit Vipers.
- Gretzky to any team but Edmonton is really the WTF, but I guess St. Louis is the worst. It COULD be worse though, they could've approved this jersey for that year.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/bergmanrock ...- ngmcs8203, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Yes, obviously he was not 83, but the line was still damn funny.

Damon is a mid-level major league player, maybe slightly above average, but because his move is from Bos to NY (like players have never done that before!!!!!!) he's 11th on this list?
