Diablo 3 - Everything We Know So Far
shacknews.com — Shacknews.com sums up the information released/discovered so far about Diablo 3. More nerdgasms ensue.
- 2019 diggs
- digg it
- Iluvator, on 07/01/2008, -2/+62A very nice summary. There were even a few points that I hadn't heard yet.
- shakbhaji, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2Such as this little gem:
Blizzard is looking at Battle.net features that will increase player accountability in order to cut down on annoying jerks. - BlackFox187, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'd like to see the citation on that one though.
- shakbhaji, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2Such as this little gem:
- Elliottx, on 07/01/2008, -11/+5"Blizzard is looking at Battle.net features that will increase player accountability in order to cut down on annoying jerks."
.....Now does that mean it's gonna be less laggy. Or are Blizzard finally punishing the ***** on battle.net?- futtbucker, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5I think the implication is that they're going to find ways to kick annoying people off BNet.
- seraph582, on 07/01/2008, -0/+11it'd be cool if people had a rating, like a digg article - where you can add or subtract from it based on the way they act.
- paidhima, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Yeah, but then you could get into some kind of "rating blackmail" where entire guilds would form with the express purpose of extorting items from people or get massively rated down.
- skipdog172, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1is battle.net currently laggy or something?
I sure never had any troubles playing d2 on battle.net...- Elliottx, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Everything seems to be laggy on any Blizzard games while on a Europe realm for me.
....I live in England......BAH.
- Elliottx, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Everything seems to be laggy on any Blizzard games while on a Europe realm for me.
- AMikaboshi, on 07/01/2008, -9/+10I also learned several things from this article that I didn't know before. Good Read!!
- Retrodigg123, on 07/01/2008, -12/+121DO WANT DIABLO SEX NOW
- macbookhair, on 07/01/2008, -1/+10k I'm ready.
- isunktheship, on 07/01/2008, -2/+26woah you got 4chan in my digg!
- DarkDx, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5And you just realized that now?
- freqk, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Welcome to DiggChan.
- Samsong, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3You got digg in my 4chan!
No, wait! It's REESES!!!
- jasz, on 07/01/2008, -0/+16/me puts on his wizard hat and robe...
- futtbucker, on 07/01/2008, -2/+117ugh, this game cannot come out soon enough.
- jgzman, on 07/01/2008, -9/+2Yes it can!
There's no way my current rig will run this. I need to upgrade a few things. Like my CPU, Video Card, buy more ram, and a new Motherboard to hold it all.
Let them wait a year. Then they can release it.- EvilFerret, on 07/01/2008, -0/+8From the looks of things, it's not going to be a very demanding game. I'm guessing it could easily run on a $500 rig. Of course so could almost any game (except Crysis, closer to $1000 to run that game properly).
- Acglaphotis, on 07/01/2008, -1/+14No one, especially diablo fans, care about your underpowered computer. They would probably kill you if it meant Diablo 3 was released a day earlier.
- DragonForce4, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3I certainly would
- jgzman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4You gotta catch me first, dude.
- IndigoMoss, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Your computer is from 2001?
- KMartSheriff, on 07/01/2008, -0/+18I started playing Age of Conan recently, and after seeing gameplay demos of Diablo 3 I can't find any interest in AoC anymore.
Damn you Blizzard. Why do you make such amazing games?- Gizza, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4It took you this long to lose interesting in AoC?
- Iluvator, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2I'd be surprised to see this before Christmas of '09. We can be fairly certain that it won't release around the same time as Starcraft II, which still has no announced release date.
- Aadain, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3From the article, it seems that D3 isn't far away from being complete. It has been in development for 4-5 years, which should put it pretty close to being complete. Xmas '08 is still 5 months off, so Blizzard could shock the world and release D3 this year, and SC2 for Xmas '09.
- Iluvator, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3It's always possible. However, the first rule of prototypes and demos is that they're never as done as they look. Judging from what I've seen, they have the engines finished, but not much in the way of content - character classes, maps, adventures, stories, monsters, etc. Compare what we've been shown of these things to how much there was in Diablo II. Diablo III has more of them - there's still a _lot_ of work that would need to be done if what we've seen is all that's completed.
Would love to see is come out this Christmas, but I'm not holding my breath. :)
- fool13, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Comparing this to WoW - WoW was announced in late 2001 and had been in development for about a year if memory serves. It took an additional 4 or 5 years to be released so If it's been in development for 4-5 years I would say late 09.
- jgzman, on 07/01/2008, -9/+2Yes it can!
- seraph582, on 07/01/2008, -0/+9Great compilation. Thanks for the submission!
Here's an article talking about the engine and such: http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/0 ... - Civil44, on 07/01/2008, -5/+14I wasn't a big fan of Diablo 2 (hack and slash repetitive games get tiring) but this looks really good. I see alot of changes that I've been wanting for years and the graphics look stellar. Can't wait for this and SC2!!
- chaos7, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4i'm in total agreement
- SonnyW, on 07/01/2008, -2/+7The graphics may look good but the style is way too cartoony for a game like Diablo. It seems after Warcraft 3 and WoW Blizzard can only do cartoony atmospheres even if the game in question is supposed to be horror.
Here's to hoping that gets changed before release. I'll be surprised if the game comes out before the end of 2009 so they'll have plenty of time.- paidhima, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2I dig the visual style. It seems to be a cross between D2 and WoW, which is what they were going for. As far as release date goes, I have a feeling we'll see it in the middle of next year, at the latest. I can definitely see them releasing SC2 in December and D3 in June (to mark the "anniversary" of D2 and LoD). Otherwise, it'll be by Christmas 2009.
- SonnyW, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Sorry, Blizzard confirmed Starcraft 2 will not be out this year. So January 1 2009 for the optimistic among us ;)
- Radan, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Personally, I don't have any problems with the new art style. I say it's neither better nor worse.
I think the reason that they changed the style is because the old style didn't translate as well into real 3D. The more semi-cartoony style is a lot more distinctive among today's brown and grey so called "realistic" games.
Also, the more simplistic graphics will make it easier to navigate and find smaller items on the screen e.t.c.
The only thing that bothers me so far is that they changed the way the backpack works. I think the backpack was one of the many small things that made Diablo, Diablo - SonnyW, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3You mean the one tiny icon per item part? That bothered me too. The fact that your huge epic battleaxe of godslaying is represented by a tiny icon you need a magnifying glass to see was one of the worst things about WoW. I know it's supposed to be cartoony and unrealistic but it really cut into the immersion for me looking at my items ordered in an excel sheet.
- Radan, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1@SonnyW:
Yeah, that, and the fact that an amulet takes up as much space in your backpack as your freaking horse.
The grid system that was used in Diablo is imo the best way of handling a backpack. It's a very simple system that creates lots of new game elements. Firstly, you will have to counter the stats of the item with the amount of space in the backpack it takes up, when trying determine whether you should pick up the item or not.
Secondly, the form of the item also matters; if you don't sort the items properly, the backpack will fill up instantly.
Well, well, I guess it's just another example of how the gaming industry is getting dumbed down for today's kids with an attention span of a nanosecond. - Gizza, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2"The user interface has been kept very similar to Diablo II."
Not sure where they get this from. Apart from the Orbs nothing else whatsoever looks remotely like Diablo. Colourful skill icons rather than the etched granite type symbols. One slot per item inventory. Character equip screen which looks like WoW rather than the items being over a silhouette of your character.
Where is this similar interface they're talking about. If you were to show a screenshot of this to someone without telling them it is Diablo 3 they probably wouldn't pick it.
- antdude, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2D3 is still hack and slash. :P
- sandiegodude, on 07/01/2008, -1/+23Looks pretty hot. You can see the improvements to the Diablo I/II design influenced by WoW. Lets just hope they keep the rampant cheating which plagued the previous releases under control on battlenet.
- DragoonWraith, on 07/01/2008, -14/+14"influenced by WoW" != "improvement"
I'm all for new stuff, upgrades, and the like, but I want Diablo III, not World of DiabloCraft.
The comment about "challenging themselves to add color while maintaining the gothic atmosphere of the original" bothers me - they failed.- FredFredrickson, on 07/01/2008, -2/+13Have you seen the indoor dungeon areas in the videos / screens? There's nothing "failed" about that. They look gorgeous, and still seem dark and creepy!
- smashhell, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I agree DragoonWraith, the cartoonish Diablo 3 failed so hard. =(
- DragoonWraith, on 07/01/2008, -14/+14"influenced by WoW" != "improvement"
- phaseblue, on 07/01/2008, -2/+91All I know is that I have quite a treasure in this Horadric Cube.

- macbookhair, on 07/01/2008, -2/+58"Loot is now generated per player. You only see the loot that you can pick up, which Blizzard hopes will create a spirit of cooperation."
Damn... so no fighting off Baal Hell drops?
Also... if there is a magic find power in items like in the second... will the person who gets killing blow be the one to determine the magic find for everyone?
And... will everyone see th exact same drops... or will it be random...like one person gets to get an item and an unlucky person might see some gold or pots- GrammerPants, on 07/01/2008, -2/+6"Damn... so no fighting off Baal Hell drops?"
That's not how I read the idea, I assume there will still be drop runs just everyone gets their own loot. Rather then the scramble which was D2. - lunachique, on 07/01/2008, -0/+17I'd rather it be random and then you can decide whether you want to trade it or keep it yourself like in Guild Wars. That'll fend off the treasure whores! Sweet!
- steelclash84, on 07/01/2008, -0/+12Individual loot drops is also a feature in HG:L and Mythos. I think it's a great feature and I'm happy they're implementing it in D3. I shouldn't have to fight over random loot drops within my own party.
- GoldenPearl, on 07/01/2008, -4/+0I believe it that random loot will be dropped. Then people will only be able to see the items their character could use.
I could be completely wrong though - thirdeyeopen, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2thats how they did it in hellgate, worked fine, the drops are random per player, not split up in any way.
- wogfella, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Random per player, yes, but the problem in HGL was you kept getting heaps of cool Marksman or Eng gear drops when playing a damn Blademaster. Not bad for MP if you can farm it off to your party members and swap stuff around, but bites for single-player. All you could do was disassemble the stuff or sell it off, which when you have a few hundred parts and a few hundred thousand PL was useless (trying to level up by farming runs)
Hopefully in D3 they give some attention to the ratio of drops for each player so you only end up with a small number of "useless" gear drops for stuff that kicks some arse, or only drops that your player can use.
- wogfella, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Random per player, yes, but the problem in HGL was you kept getting heaps of cool Marksman or Eng gear drops when playing a damn Blademaster. - kontact, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1so that would mean that a 'meph run' equivalent with 8 players would give you the drop of 8 single meph runs (just split up between the players)? interesting..
- macbookhair, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1If you know some people well you could get some good ***** pretty fast.
- smashhell, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1... Look at Hellgate for Blizzard copied this system from them. =/
It work really well there but dunno about here.
- GrammerPants, on 07/01/2008, -2/+6"Damn... so no fighting off Baal Hell drops?"
- DragonForce4, on 07/01/2008, -3/+71Stay a while and listen!

- pdavda, on 07/01/2008, -0/+20No one ever listens...
- DarkDx, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1Shut up and just identify mi items!
- Demener, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4You may not care about the back story of the Pit of Doom where the Monster of Slaughter holds the Mac Guffin of Win, bit I do.

- AshamedAmerican, on 07/01/2008, -4/+42I hope they bring the Necromancer back.
- antiorblkflag9, on 07/01/2008, -8/+2I started an overlord after the ladder reset. Up to about level 27 now.
- Xcel, on 07/01/2008, -2/+39The Witch Doctor seems like the Necromancer in a Jamaican way.
- rz8472, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4I'll call my first character "LegaliZe" to celebrate the occasion.
- DarkDx, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1...also in drugs.
- ohnoitstaylor, on 07/01/2008, -3/+6Do you mean the David Bowie class?
- zspade, on 07/01/2008, -7/+1The necromancer class is dead.
- Aeonasphere, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8The necromancer class is undead.
- Badman996, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Doesn't look like they will bring it back. 5 classes and one of them is the new Witch Doctor... I'm sad to see my favorite class go away. Hopefully they will bring it back in an expansion though.
- Ninjao, on 07/01/2008, -5/+2Im very keen to find out the other classes.
I'm going to be playing a caster class this time around.. maybe the Witchdoctor.. but I'll have to see what the other classes are :) - Rossta, on 07/01/2008, -3/+21The viper amulet you hold is actually the headpiece of the horadric staff! Ah, you have an uncanny knack for finding rare and valuable artifcats...
- IEatHamburgers, on 07/01/2008, -6/+3Are artifcats like LOLcats? Or are they more like bobcats and meercats?
- solarweasel, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Is a meercat anything like a meerkat?
- IEatHamburgers, on 07/01/2008, -6/+3Are artifcats like LOLcats? Or are they more like bobcats and meercats?

- Aadain, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Personally, I want a velvet covered torpedo.
- smashhell, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Nope, last I heard, most of the money Blizzard made goes to their parent company Vivdenl. And Blizzard employees get paid *****. =/

- Aurabolt, on 07/01/2008, -12/+2Looks like WoW except prettier. Same skills bar, animations seem similar, etc. Definitely looks sexy though =]
- Pittance, on 07/01/2008, -4/+4That skills bar (a horizontal line of skill icons) has been around longer than WoW. I had it in AC for one, and that also had multiple bars which switched. Its not like any game that has that skill bar positioning is taking it from WoW. Wow took it from common-damn-sense and so has everyone else. Its compact and it works well. The animations are seen in angled-over-the-top 3rd person view, whereas in wow its usually over the shoulder or direct-on animations. So the animations could look identical, but be different, and so on. Different perspective. Also, once animations get good enough that they mimic real world physics near-perfectly (we're getting there), most animations will look the same and familiar since they are how they should be looking. There's only so many different ways a human arm can swing a sword, ya know.
- MattSFJ2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Did you ever play Diablo 2?
- Needles13, on 07/01/2008, -8/+2All I want is to be able to spam firewall at the entrance to the rogue encampment in a duel game.
- FearFactory, on 07/01/2008, -2/+8Heavy focus on encouraging cooperative play. Solo players are going to whine and say this is forced grouping.
- Pittance, on 07/01/2008, -0/+14Its still a single player game. But like in D2, if you go online, the game will get harder so you need to work together to be as efficient. Otherwise, why go online?
- iamchris, on 07/01/2008, -3/+4Can someone post a comment with some of what was said? Firewalls suck. . .
- elnerdo, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Yeah, the spell really got nerfed once they added a cooldown.
- Hanzolot, on 07/02/2008, -1/+41. General Overview
* Largely follows in the style of past Diablo games.
* Controls and camera kept simple, but depth of combat enhanced.
* The story takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo II.
* Greater emphasis has been placed on a character-driven story.
* Targeting a length similar to Diablo II, which ran four acts.
* Uses a new in-house 3D engine and the Havok physics engine.
* Has been in development for four or five years. Was rebooted after Blizzard North shut down in March 2005.
* The game is "really far along," and is "really fun to play already." (Source: GameSpot)
* Dev team now up to 50-55 employees.
* Will ship simultaneously on Mac and PC.
* No plans for a console version.
* No decisions made on financial model.
* Blizzard challenged themselves to add color to the art style while maintaining the dark, gothic feel of the previous titles.
Shackvideo users can use the HD Stream.
2. Gameplay
* Heavy focus on encouraging cooperative play.
* Higher difficulty levels.
* Mixes randomized and static maps as in Diablo II.
* Hardcore mode likely to return. "Don't see why we wouldn't do it."
* Less focus on potions in order to emphasize skill use. Monsters can drop instant health regen orbs which heal anybody nearby in your party.
* Trading will be improved over the ad-hoc Diablo II experience, but nothing like an "auction house" system has been confirmed.
* Much more vertical terrain. Bridges, ladders, etc.
* Destructible environments, that can also hurt enemies via Havok physics engine.
* Town portal system will "probably" be changed to speed up gameplay.
* Mounts not seen as necessary.
* Booby traps return.
* Helper/bodyguard NPCs are back.
3. Questing
* There will be class-based quests in addition to main storyline quests.
* A new "Adventure" system will power randomly generated scripted events. An example provided was an area the player would come across, such as an old abandoned house, that may have a story behind it and enemies to dispatch.
* A new conversation system will see fully-voiced characters interacting with each other.
* Loot is now generated per player. You only see the loot that you can pick up, which Blizzard hopes will create a spirit of cooperation.
* Color-coded items, uniques, runes, and other conventions return, in addition to identifying scrolls.
4. Interface
* The user interface has been kept very similar to Diablo II.
* The new hotbar acts like an abbreviated four-slot form of a World of Warcraft hotbar, with additional slots for scrolls.
* Players will be able to quickswap between skills using the mouse wheel or tab key.
* Isometric view that can be zoomed in, but not zoomed far out.
* Item slots: helm, shoulders, gloves, body, pants, boots, belt, two rings, amulet.
* Damage-per-second variable on items.
* Items all take up one inventory slot--no more shuffling that giant spear around.
* Hit point numbers now appear above monsters after critical hits.
* Buffs are now displayed as an icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
* Gold is now automatically picked up.
5. Multiplayer
* Drop in/drop out cooperative play over Battle.net.
* There will be a single realm/region for North America.
* The game can support about eight players in multiplayer, but currently plays better with around five. The maximum has not yet been decided upon.
* Battle.net will receive new upgrades, some of which will be seen in StarCraft II.
* Blizzard is looking at Battle.net features that will increase player accountability in order to cut down on annoying jerks.
* Blizzard is looking at integrating web community features, such as a WoW Armory-like website that would allow players to show off their characters outside of the game.
6. Classes
* Five total character classes.
* Players will be able to choose a male or female variant of each class.
* Confirmed classes:
Witch Doctor
o Hails from the Teganze, an area of the Torajan jungles.
o A self-sacrificing people that believe in an alternate reality called the Unformed Land, which the Witch Doctors are able to tap into for their powers.
o Similar to Necromancer in function, but not necessarily intended as a replacement.
o Confirmed abilities:
+ Firebomb: grenade-like AoE (Area of Effect) fire spell.
+ Horrify: AoE fear spell, causes most creatures to run away)
+ Locust Swarm: summons a swarm of insects that literally devour clusters of enemies, leaving nothing but bones.
+ Mongrel: summons a demon dog from a skeleton. Casting locust swarm on a mongrel adds disease damage to its attacks. Intentionally destroying the mongrel damages nearby enemies.
+ Mass Confusion: temporarily turns a group of enemies against each other.
+ Soul Harvest: AoE spell that kills an enemy and converts it into mana.
+ Wall of Zombies: firewall-like spell that summons a line of zombies which stand and swing at nearby enemies.
Barbarian
o The Mount Arreat area, home of the barbarians, was devastated in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The barbarian people have subsequently fallen into decline.
o Some barbarians have been turned into inhuman beasts.
o Confirmed abilities:
+ Cleave: hits multiple enemies in one swing.
+ Ground Stomp: a thundering AoE stun.
+ Leap: precision jump that destroys enemies on landing.
+ Seismic Slam: the Barbarian slams the ground, creating a directed shockwave that can hit multiple enemies in a line.
+ Whirlwind: a reckless spinning attack that takes out any enemy in the Barbarian's path.
* Other classes are still not fully decided upon by Blizzard, but obvious choices for launch or expansion are some kind of Archer and Sorceror.
7. Monsters
* Skeletons
o Will come in standard soldier form, as summoners, or as shield bearers.
o Shield bearers are slow but tough, and will absorb damage until their shield breaks, protecting casters behind them.
o Skeletons be summoned by necromancers anywhere, but will require less effort to summon in a graveyard than in the middle of a forest.
o Necromancers can summon a horde of skeletons or one single uber-skeleton for the same cost.
o Summoners will automatically replenish skeleton warriors for a necromancer, creating a self-sustaining army.
* Berserker
o Aggressive monster with a mace that charges up its attacks, becoming vulnerable if it misses.
* Khazra (goat-men)
o Similar to the goat-men in past games.
o Moon Clan Charger variant wields a large axe.
* Dark Cultists
o Weak magicians, they summon demon spawn to fight against you.
o The Dark Vessel variant transforms into powerful entities on a timer. The player must kill them before they morph or face a tough battle.
* Ghouls
o Standard ghost-like wraiths. Shown in the gameplay video leaping out from a trap.
* Grotesque
o A fat zombie. When killed, dozens of blue eels swim free of its stomach and swarm the player.
* Beast
o A large wooly beast with horns. Seems to have a charge and slam ability.
* Thousand Pounder
o A mini-boss demon shown in the Forgotten Tombs dungeon. It wields two giant maces.
* Gnarled Walkers
o Entities from another dimension that disguise themselves as massive trees, picking off men and animals when they come near.
o Employ some kind of poison attack.
* Siegebreaker Assault Beast
o A very large mini-boss resembling a dog creature with a human torso attached to it. Shown at the end of the recent gameplay demonstration.
o Picked up a player and bit his head off in a scripted animation, finishing it off in one attack.
8. Story
* Player character now interacts with characters in dialogue scenes.
* Old characters like Deckard Cain return.
* Plot:
o It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain.
(Source: Blizzard.com)
o "In the previous two games, Diablo and his two brothers, Mephisto and Baal, were the three Prime Evils of a world called Sanctuary. Where we start off in Diablo III, it's twenty years later and the brothers are gone, they've been vanquished. Essentially everyone was kind of geared for Hell to actually invade. At the end of Lord of Destruction, the Worldstone was destroyed, it left a giant crater and everyone was expecting the hordes to come pouring out of it and nothing happened. So, Deckard Cain is one of our main characters from the first two games, he's spent the last two decades trying to find out where the last two Evils are, what they're doing and why the invasion didn't happen. A lot of the rest of the story focuses on Tyrael, the Angel of Justice, and what's happened to him since that event as he was actually the angel who destroyed the world." (Source: Kotaku)
* World Locations:
o New Tristram
+ Town formed by merchants looking to make a profit off of the legends of riches found in the cathedral.

+ Located in Kehijstan.
+ Rivals Diablo II's Kurast in size.
+ Began to decay after Kurast's nobles fled their city and took up residence in Caldeum and brought with them a sense of entitlement.
+ When the unifying Emperor of Kehjistan became ill and died, the Zakarum returned and the city fell into chaos.
o Confirmed Zone: Leoric Highlands
o Confirmed Dungeon: Forgotten Tombs

The mouse controls of Diablo work really well for the type of game it is. - Thoraxes, on 07/01/2008, -0/+9Oh god no.
the clicking is FINE.
It's fantastic for diablo.
no WSAD plz. - zdiddy85, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5lol at you

- pwnerofnoobs, on 07/01/2008, -9/+1zfaggot85,
- jgzman, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1I like the mouse-play. But I see no reason they can't implement both at the same time.
- paidhima, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1WASD is a terrible idea for a game like this. If the controls are anything like D2, and from what I've seen they are, the keyboard will be needed for hotkeys and skill switches. As it is, in D2 I had the entire left side of the keyboard mapped for potions and three "tiers" of skill keys:
1234 - potions
qwer - left click
asdf - right-click damage and primary spells (tele, static, etc)
zxcv - "buffs", items and secondary clicks
D3 is supposed to offer a lot of variety in skill use, so there will be less focus on one particular skill (Whirlwind, CE, Frozen Orb, etc). If this winds up being true, then we'll need all the hotkeys we can get.

- ociris, on 07/01/2008, -2/+87Both Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 better be free in Battle.Net - If they start charging, im gonna be really pissed.
- MendozaLine, on 07/01/2008, -17/+13But you'll still pay every penny...
- log1k, on 07/01/2008, -1/+17battle net for SC2 and D3 will be kept free (as far as i know) so no monthly charges :)
- HoratioHellpop, on 07/01/2008, -4/+26Since you're the final source for the facts on Blizzard's plans ... thanks!
- Radica1Faith, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3I'm digging your comment because I want to believe you.
- pdavda, on 07/01/2008, -4/+6They will be free, they aren't MMOs and don't require payment to maintain servers or fund additional content.
- Kormiku, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Because battle.net doesnt have to maintain their servers
- Gizza, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Blizzard have always said that Battle.net will remain free. I don't see why they would change this now, that would be a huge PR blunder on their part.
- moush, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1MMO's don't require funding for servers anyways, just look at the profits Blizzard is raking in. Blizzard should be giving back to the community and reduce the monthly cost, but there's no way they'll do it because hordes of people are addicted to the game and probably would be willing to pay even 25 a month.
Additional content doesn't need funding either, that's why expansions cost money.
- vpshockwave, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2Why would they magically start charging for battle net? That wouldn't make any sense. If you think they're going to randomly start charging for battle net you're just paranoid.
- vincexs, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3yeah.. not like Blizzard would want to make more money or anything.

- cojerk, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It's anyone's guess to when it'll be released, but this (FTA) gave me hope:
# Has been in development for four or five years. Was rebooted after Blizzard North shut down in March 2005.
# The game is "really far along," and is "really fun to play already." (Source: GameSpot)
# Dev team now up to 50-55 employees.
- CapnBans, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0Doesn't gamespot say 12/31 as a release date?

- smashhell, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Gamespot is rarely right on release date. Both Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 on December of this year ?

- fakesinatra, on 07/01/2008, -6/+2The fact that things like gas and food and utilities are putting a strain on my budget makes it pretty much impossible that I'll be upgrading my computer for this (it's 4 years old now and will be maybe 5 or 6 years old before D3 comes out.)
Doesn't look like I'll be playing this unless there's a console version.- kingmanic, on 07/01/2008, -0/+18Blizzard aims low, generally. so you might get away with not upgrading and have everything set to "ugly".

- Syphon8, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1What's all this about necromancers?
"# Skeletons be summoned by necromancers anywhere, but will require less effort to summon in a graveyard than in the middle of a forest.
# Necromancers can summon a horde of skeletons or one single uber-skeleton for the same cost. "- paidhima, on 07/01/2008, -4/+1You beat me to it. I was just going to say something about that. Mention of "less effort" could just mean that necro mobs may have different tactics in forests vs graveyards. That kind of seems like a stretch though. The part about "same cost" though... that would only be relevant for a PC.
- Syphon8, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I actually mean that necromancer isn't an announced class in D3.
- v0lrath, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Is it possible they meant enemy necromancers?
- elnerdo, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1That information is from the background-story stuff. It's talking about Necromancers in general. There probably won't be a Necromancer class. That comes from the explanation behind skeletons. It was explaining that a skeleton's intelligence is directly proportional to the amount of energy used to summon it.
- moush, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1That was about Necromancer enemies you face. Use context clues please.
- paidhima, on 07/01/2008, -4/+1You beat me to it. I was just going to say something about that. ^^ If you have to pay a monthly subscription screw that. Either I buy the game and play it or I don't buy the game and pay a monthly fee to play it, not both.- milkmage, on 07/01/2008, -3/+2buy game, play solo for no extra cost
pay $ for battle.net and play co-op.
I think the only financial model decision is "are we going to charge for battle.net or not"- Syphon8, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3It's a no.
- topace3000, on 07/01/2008, -1/+8No, ***** you, that better not be how it is. Battle.net is supposed to be free.
- p0pcorns, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Well, the fact that it actually has a storyline that can most likely be finished in less than a month should at least imply how stupid it is to start charging. Blizzard obviously need to think that one through.
- DarkDx, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2If they are going to do that at least offer FREE tcp/ip "mode".
- xkorbin, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Battle.net has been free for over 10 years now, this better not change.
- moush, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1You know that if you buy expansions for the game, it's the same deal. It's about what you get out of it anyways, not the price.
- cgruber, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Wrong. I have a house mortage, 2 car payments, cell phones, utilities etc. I simply won't play it if it's a montly fee. I don't care HOW MUCH I get out of it.
- milkmage, on 07/01/2008, -3/+2buy game, play solo for no extra cost
- bigfinger, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2Okay so these are facts. D3, SCII, WOTLK are all in development, Plus you have a next gen MMO they are hiring for. What is that game based on? Blizz makes $120 million a month from WOW subscriptions, they clearly have the money to dev more then one game at a time unlike the past, but 4 games (3 if you don’t count an expansion as a game) is a lot for BLIZZ to be working on at once. My money would be on Starcraft Universe, then WOWII then Lost Vikings MMO.
- phydeaux70, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4If there is a gaming company to do it, it's Blizzard. They make other gaming companies look a tad bit ridiculous.
- shakbhaji, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3I bet they're working on a new franchise for after D3. It's time for something brand new. That's not to say I'm getting tired of the tried and true, I just think it's time.

At least with my new card purchases I'm not going to have to cut my pc case to make that behemoth fit. *go look up pics of the Voodoo 5 card if you've never seen one before.*- Radica1Faith, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3You needed to buy new video card to play diablo 2?
- hartley, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Yep, my previous was a diamond viper v330. Which had a whopping 4mb of vid ram. Enough for Starcraft and Diablo 1, but Diablo 2 ran pretty sluggish.
