Diablo III First Look
gamespot.com — Blizzard shows off the first trailer and gameplay of its latest dungeon crawler, and we've got the first look. The Barbarian sees, and the Barbarian smashes. The Witch Doctor sees, and usually let's something else do his dirty work. The two character classes shown off during today’s announcement of Diablo III....

- Frozenfuryblade, on 06/30/2008, -3/+23Whoa... That last boss... was just a run of the mill mob? This game is really exciting me now.
- drimsun, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6If you want to see the live Diablo 3 announcement with all the nerdgasms check this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEqO0AjbGsU - kerosion, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3It's a mini-boss at the end of the gameplay video. This is referenced in "Everything we know so far": http://digg.com/pc_games/Diablo_3_Everything_We_Kn ... , originally coming from one of the design interviews offered at WWI.
- Lanlost, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Look at the forest areas of this game. In the screenshots they look almost hand painted. At first I thought the game was still 2d until I saw more screenshots.
I've played a lot of 3d games, and I generally like them, but I must say that this is one of the first 3d games that I have ever thought looks gorgeous in the way I've always wanted 3d games to look.
I guess I don't really think of 2D being outdated. Everyone seems to think that next-gen games HAVE to be 3D. Imagine what we could put out on the next-gen systems using super high resolution hand painted graphics.
I mean, I guess people think of 2D being like black and white movies and 3D being color. To me it seems like a distinct style that at one point just happened to be basically the only one available. Have you ever seen the ending to Super Metroid where the baby from the previous Metroid saves your ass? .. That wouldn't be nearly as effective in 3d. Prime is also a great series in it's own right. Both can be done.
In conclusion:
I NEED 1080P 2D.
Thanks.

- tcpip4lyfe, on 06/30/2008, -15/+3Get this on the front page! What is wrong with digg now days?
- alexismyhomeboi, on 06/30/2008, -12/+3Ok... how is this not on the front page? It's like the announcement story made all the hardcore fans explode. Digg this story up!
- atreusk, on 07/01/2008, -5/+40no! some others have been dugged. This is merely a duplicate.
- Pake, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7Exactly with what I was thinking. This article is about 4 articles too late on what it talks about.
- breezytrees, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I know, dammit, and still I digg! I can't help it. :-(*
I want to, like, sex it.. or something. I don't know. I'm confused/ - staffell, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1who cares?
- scififan9009, on 07/01/2008, -4/+13I've never played Diablo. Is it good?
;)- hektur, on 07/02/2008, -5/+10You never played Diablo? You poor soul!
- bejayel, on 07/02/2008, -2/+4I know lots of peolpe that dont like it, but more who love it. If you like hack and slash games with a more active gameplay system than that of WoW, Diablo is amazing. WoW is probably good to, but i found the combat slow and boring when compared to that of diablo.
- IpwnZnoobs, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2its a pretty unique game, its one of the most addicting too.
- SpookyPig, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12Think sex... but with both hands this time.
- DenTPuzz, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I liked Diablo + Diablo 2, even though it was pillaged by cheaters!
- Servebot, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1cheating was awesome... without godly dupes i probably wouldnt have played the game
- burnin8r28, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1but diablo II had cow world
- isunktheship, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3it's kinda like The Sims, but with more references to the Quattrocento period.
- bigp3rm, on 07/01/2008, -3/+11I want to play it now! I have been talking about this game for years. Blizzard had dropped a few small hints. People laughed at me and threw rotten tomatoes at me. But I was right!
Check out this vid with Rob Parto. http://www.gamespot.com/video/930659/6193139/diabl ...
He says they started over 3 times to get the right direction. That's why it took so long for the announcement.
I bet they are revealed now that it's out in the open.- bejayel, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Didnt they lose most of the diablo team at one point as well? Everyone thought diablo was done for
- Chan815, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3yeah when blizzard north left
- Weirdblastoise, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3"Over 3 times"
I'm willing to bet the number was 4.

- ocharry, on 07/01/2008, -1/+66Whiny developers like Crytek and Epic should be more like Valve and Blizzard and just make great games.
- destron, on 07/02/2008, -1/+11I think Crytek's whining over piracy is just a cover-up for a sub-average game. No, it's not a terrible game IMO - it's just a bit ahead of it's time in terms of performance and has some design issues, but I think the Stardock guys behind Sins of a Solar Empire put it best... (paraphrase) "Stop whining about piracy and focus on paying customers."
Also, Valve is amazing, I don't feel Blizzard as much as some people but they still make great games. More PC game developers need to learn from them.- chongli, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1I think the whole performance issue of Crysis was a marketing one.
If they had marketed the lower specs as being high and the higher specs as being "extremely high" then the game would not have been perceived as such a hog.
- chongli, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1I think the whole performance issue of Crysis was a marketing one.
- juicyjames, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Very true. Take a look at this article for instance.
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/36952/The-Orange ...
Valve's The Orange Box was on both PC and consoles, but sold "at least a two-digit percentage" better on PC. Sure, you have to factor in retail, downloads, individual game sales, and a slight delayed release on PS3, but if piracy was the sole reason for PC games not selling well these days this should not have been the case. It really sounds like some companies want a scapegoat for poor sales.- Uaedaien, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I thought even if you bought the box you had to use steam to verify your serial key etc pretty much eliminating piracy. Anyway it is good that pc games are still making the money though, I always use my pc for solo games and consoles with friends.
- YourDoom123, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2LOL the steam dependency was cracked in like a week...
- ortucis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1A week? More like a month with any real solutions.
- Chicken, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6To be honest, if a game as great as Diablo III is advertised. Pirating does not even come into my mind. My first thought is to buy it.. I don't know why but it just seems more normal to buy epic games.
- ortucis, on 07/02/2008, -4/+1I can read Chicken. What Chicken is saying is that he will pirate it anyway but that doesn't mean he can't hunt for more diggs pretending he will buy it.
So the average Digger who bitches about rising prices and claims to never have enough money to even afford an Indie game will actually pay for Diablo 3, of all the games out there.. SHOCKING! - ridercologne, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Well you gotta pay for it if you plan to populate TEH BATTLE.NET!
- ortucis, on 07/02/2008, -4/+1I can read Chicken. What Chicken is saying is that he will pirate it anyway but that doesn't mean he can't hunt for more diggs pretending he will buy it.
- GassyTurd, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0I love the art/graphics in Blizzard games. They have a "painting" look instead of the photo-realistic look. It's much more vibrant IMO.
- destron, on 07/02/2008, -1/+11I think Crytek's whining over piracy is just a cover-up for a sub-average game. - Elliottx, on 07/01/2008, -1/+11I'm so glad that Blizzard are taking the time and effort to make this game. I hope we find out more about the lore too, like what happened to Tyrael (Who I think is now possessed by Baal/Diablo/Whoever) and how the flying ***** Deckard Cain is STILL alive. -_-
- nc60659, on 07/01/2008, -1/+16SPOILERS: Deckard Cain is secretly the prime evil of the prime evils. Think about it: he's immortal, no one can lay a finger on him, and he can make anyone stay a while and listen. There will be no secret cow level in Diablo III; there will be your character facing off against Deckard Cain.
- Elliottx, on 07/01/2008, -2/+25Secret Deckard Cain level. Thousands of Deckard Cains holding halberds saying "Stay a while, and listen" when you hit them.
- bosssmiley, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Blizzard, hire this man!
- Badman996, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Maybe its the fact that its 5 AM here and I haven't gone to bed yet but, Elliottx's comment was one of the funniest ones iv read in awhile.
- Rhendal, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Deckard Cain, Lord of Identification?
- cheeseplease, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Dugg for stay a while and listen :)
- DerFlash, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3my friends and i always thought deckard cain would be one of the final bosses. he would grow huge and chase you while shouting all his catch-phrases with little death-things added on the end. i.e. "stay a while, and listen...while i KILL YOU!" "Good day...for YOU TO DIE!!!!" etc etc

- WanderingGuru, on 07/02/2008, -7/+40Buried for a Gamespot article. I refuse to help send any more users to their site to pay for advertising so those advertisers can then pay for good reviews.
In short... ***** Gamespot!- OpCzar, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I thought Digg was supposed to be boycotting gamespot.
Unfortunately, people forget quickly and business will be back as usual.

- Lanlost, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I started a paid subscription to Gamespot in .. geez, like 2000, and got rid of the card less than two years later. Somehow, I still get all of the paid features even though no card information exists or anything. Regardless, I get every feature and I'm not paying for it and I've checked with the bank and NO ONE has the number I used, at all.
Oh and .. I won't be revealing my user name on Gamespot for obvious reasons (It's not Lanlost)

ca is about the only English version of Youtube left that will make it past Web Marshal, a pesky web filter that stands between me and unrestricted Internet access.

- justice7, on 07/02/2008, -4/+5The diablo storyline has always been better than most RPG titles in the last several years. Simple, Dark and interesting. Bring on Diablo3!
- DforSpiD, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Particularly if you get all of the history from Diablo 1
- ortucis, on 07/02/2008, -5/+1"The diablo storyline has always been better than most RPG titles in the last several years."
I wouldn't know, I quit playing D2 in that desert level where you hunt mummies (played a long time ago). Repititive gameplay, ***** story and unintresting generic player character. Hype is fun.
- proficient, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2In before nerdgasm.
- Jeepy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+14Dugg but....this is the same exact footage that two other stories had that were both FP'd. Just Saying.

- wrathofg0d, on 07/02/2008, -15/+9***** gamespot, ***** you submitter for submitting ***** we have already seen
"Later, when asked about specific new enemies that the character would encounter, Boyarsky dropped the tantalizing hint that there are seven lords of Hell in the Diablo universe... Assuming the player has killed three already in the previous game, could we meet the final four in Diablo III? Time will tell..."
lol whoever wrote this is a ***** retard who never even played the other games, you already met two more for five total: duriel and andariel
buried- videotape, on 07/02/2008, -4/+5Duriel and Andariel were lesser evils.
buried- bejayel, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1I think you are right and all of the lords of hell will have an accompanying soulstone, of which both duriel and andariel did not have. But i could be wrong. Although when you say the "prime evils" 3 really does stick to mind, so who knows.

And yeah, this game is going to ruin my relationship - DiggityDugged, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5lol, gamespot failed on being expedient, as did digg front page. there were dozens of high res video diggs long before gamespot's.
- chkdg8, on 07/02/2008, -4/+1I never really got into pc games with the exception of Star Wars Galaxies but this looks absolutely gorgeous. Please port over to consoles.
- Titan615, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5It'll never happen, Blizzard is purely a PC game manufacturer, and they have announced that they have no intentions of porting their games to console. Sorry mate. Go buy a PC.
- paidhima, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Well, that's not entirely true. Both Starcraft and the original Diablo were ported to consoles: Starcraft to N64 and Diablo to PS1. Diablo was a more successful port, in terms of game quality, but Starcraft was surprisingly playable.
I do agree though; don't expect a console port of D3.

- bejayel, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5THIS GAME IS GOING TO ***** RULE. I am going to have to bank a few sick days and save vaciation time i think!
- metaboman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7http://blizzard.com/diablo3 has a very long gameplay video and it's straight from the source.
- chaos7, on 07/02/2008, -2/+6i would digg this if it wasn't at gamespot. their reviews can't be trusted.
- kerosion, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Back when Diablo II was in development one of the features planned was Guild Support on Battle.Net. This was to include Guild Houses with Storage features that could be accessed by guild members by logging into a specific type of game. While we're many years past the scrapping of this idea, given that number of players in a game is taking the back seat to how many players is best for gameplay, I'd love to see the Guild Support idea come back for D3.
- paidhima, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Blizzard has announced a fairly exhaustive overhaul of the Battle.net system for Diablo 3. Guild house/storage support would be a bit prickly to deal with, and be almost ready-made to exploit for duping purposes given Battle.net's instanced game system. They could maintain guild house instances a la the EverQuest Guild Hall (instanced for each guild, closes when all leave, but all guild members zone into the same instance), which could have some potential.
- PosedMagnet, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Ugh, who are the idiots who write this *****?
"You can choose your gender and class, but that's it. This game is all about smashing "tons and tons of monsters.""
Really? Why even type a caption if THAT is the end result?
I also like how they pretend to have seen footage we haven't. - fani, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Gonna buy this game. Its certain. But I recently picked up TitanQuest and was blown away by how good that game is. If you've never played TitanQuest, pick it up and be amazed. To me, thats what Diablo3 is.
Awesome concept of combining masteries keeps the game fresh and alive.
Of course, its a clone of the venerable Diablo, so credit to Diablo as well for inspiring TitanQuest and its expansion pack. - NickSpinner, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1WELL ITS ABOUT ***** TIME
- hulez, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3So heres this Giant Enemy Barbarian, we're gonna hit its weak point FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE!!!!

- bejayel, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3From the diablo 3 faq.
When will Diablo III be released?
It's too early to estimate Diablo III's release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. We intend to take as much time developing Diablo III as is necessary to ensure the game meets our own high expectations and those of our players.
This is how all games should be. So many games would benefit if they just stopped making such stupid release dates- foukas, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0With that in mind:
If Duke Nukem Forever isn't the best game ever created, I'm gonna cry.

Burying. - Lockhart, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I've never played Diablo before, but I'd certainly give it a try, considering all the hype the third one is getting and how popular the previous ones were. One thing though, is that I don't really like the scroller style of the game...
The gameplay trailer looks like fun though. - denizen42, on 07/02/2008, -3/+2The animations look cartoonish
- camwilson, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, but ever since they released Jeff Gerstmann, I stopped going to Gamespot. They have lost all of their talent.
- Tyrghast, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4 "The Witch Doctor is not all about walls of zombies, honest."
FIXED: The Witch Doctor is all about walls of zombies, duh.
with that said, this game is going to be so much fun, ***** all you 'cartoonish blah blah blah' people. Have a little understanding and faith, Blizzard knows what they do well and this game is going to be anything but sub-par. - mergedwarrior, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1wow, aren't they like.... period late?
- quail20, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Diablo II was such an addictive game. My only wish is that the new game allows for some solitary game play that doesn't require the internet. Diablo II had that. Because there's times when you don't want to deal with the snarky world of other players and bad internet connections. You just want to unwind by bashing up some demons.
- ansatsu29, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1diablo 3 rules....***** gamespot! lol
