Spore [PIC]
environmentalgraffiti.com — No, it ’s not photoshopped - while out for a stroll in the UK’s Peak District, Mark Manders discovered this happy-looking dragonfly and quickly snapped some shots.“It looks like a Pixar character,” said the 34-year-old.

- WendyThomas, on 09/19/2008, -6/+80Don't say that too loud or it WILL be a Pixar character before you know it. Because there aren't enough bug related animated movies out there...

Your head - LordVance, on 09/20/2008, -5/+4@vivaladisney - no, he got that it was sarcasm. He was pointing out that there really *arent* that many animated bug movies.
@LucasVB - if you really think that's a lot compared to movies with animal characters your parent's didn't love you enough to let you watch Disney films, did they? - finaldrumgod, on 09/20/2008, -3/+4@LordVance- LucasVB was saying that it's NOT a lot compared to movies with actual animals.
And now we can let the thread come to a close. - meleemaster500, on 09/20/2008, -4/+1yeah, i kinda got the obvious sarcasm, i just pointed out that there are in fact few animated bug movies compared to other ones.
- pigfister, on 09/20/2008, -2/+2I saw this and thought of EA and spore!
What is the first sale doctrine or guilt by omission?
http://files.xboxic.com/general/anti-drm.jpg - pigfister, on 09/20/2008, -3/+4Don't pay to rent spore, as the EULA takes away your rights to ownership thanks to Sony DRM SecuROM, that also fails to uninstall when the games are removed causing incompatibilities.
And its not just spore, the new command and conquer and Crysis Warhead also uses this anti-consumer DRM
http://reclaimyourgame.com/- 10scott10, on 09/20/2008, -1/+2you know what.
I really don't give a ***** about the DRM.
yes some people might find it annoying, i haven't had any trouble with it. and the vague concept of the game having DRM hasn't made it any less enjoyable.
seriously, you are acting like they are killing puppies or eating babies. - pigfister, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1@ 10scott10
you might be happy to have your rights trampled over but i disagree.
if i purchase a bit of software i would like to be able to play it in 10 years time if i feel like it, or if i think the title is below par i would like to trade it in.
the DRM on Spore and other titles makes the second hand value of this game £$0
here is an extract from spore's EULA

- TheCamino, on 09/20/2008, -1/+14
As a pro photographer, I'm seriously doubting that statement from the lens characteristics alone.
If the lens is small, like on a camera phone, then that flare in the background would destroy the contrast in that photo.- pondlife, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3Could it just be a fluke as many great photographs are? I've asked the following questions on the blog - which camera phone? Does it have a macro setting?
It truely is a very good photograph :) - GawtMilk, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2There is not enough depth of field for it to be a camera phone picture. Even at macro ranges, because the sensors are so small, there wouldn't be as much blur as there is in the picture. It could very well be a point and shoot, though - but it isn't a camera phone.
- GawtMilk, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2Well, I could be wrong. The Telegraph has the same photograph, at their website. They also say it was taken on a camera phone.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howabou ...
The photo on that website has an even tighter crop than the one shown in this article.
EDIT: I'm amazed. Look at the "eyes" of the dragonfly. You can clearly make out the reflection of the phone. Whatever phone it is, it has a larger sensor than my piece of crap free Nokia. - wafflepiano, on 09/20/2008, -1/+2@GawtMilk
I think you mean too much depth of field.
A lot of depth of field = everything in focus.
Less/shallower depth of field = selective 'ranges' in focus.

sony ericsson K800i :) - 88chrisb, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2I have a K800i and the camera is pretty decent. Not sure if it is THAT good though.
- sab0tage, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2It can produce bigger pictures than that, I reckon he had the image stabiliser on and flash off whilst in macro mode.

- paulishuku, on 09/20/2008, -4/+79UK's cell phones are far more advanced than USA's.
- kelowna4life, on 09/20/2008, -0/+12You can get this phone in America the k790
- chroko, on 09/20/2008, -3/+3No they aren't more advanced. You have different brands - and probably a different consumer focus. Arguably the most advanced cellphone in the world is American (the iPhone) - most of the rest are Japanese / Asian brands anyway ('cept Nokia).
But you can't talk "advanced" in a country that has no concept of local calls - and charges an additional fee for calling a cellphone from a landline! eg: $0.13 per minute. This is crazy!
Unlike the US, where all local area calls (ie: within your state) are free - even to a cell phone number.- paulishuku, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3Have you ever been to a UK cell phone site? Just about every phone over there has higher specs than any phone in the US. The N95 just keeps up with the UK phones.
As far as the iphone being the most advanced phone in the world.. Are you serious? The N95 alone smokes the iphone out of the water. Granted I have an iphone, but there are phones that can heavily out-perform it. Hence the successful launch of the iphone 3G in japan. =/ - sab0tage, on 09/20/2008, -0/+1What? We have local and national call charges, sure they're not free but they're not vastly expensive either, besides, I can make free evening and weekend calls anyway.
As paulishuku pointed out, the N95 far outclasses the iPhone spec wise, sure it's not as big and shiny but it's far more powerful.
If I understand this correctly, in the USA, mobile phone users pay to receive calls, which is quite honestly a concept I find really bizarre. - chroko, on 09/21/2008, -1/+2Will you please shut up about the N95:
1. It has been available in North American Nokia stores for over a year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N95
2. It looks like a clunky piece of *****. Ick.
3. What specs? I'd seriously like to know why you believe the N95 is the second coming of Jesus. Okay, it has a 5MP camera - but what's the point? The optics are terrible - and who will email a 5MP picture from a phone?

- Madryan, on 09/20/2008, -1/+1Does anyone here honestly give a flying horse ***** ***** about what 5 megapixel phone camera this was taken on. No.
This was obviously shot on a Cannon, which everyone knows is just one step up from a camera phone. - kinggimped, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Wow, you guys are unbelievably paranoid.
I honestly thought this looked like a pic taken on an N95. I happen to own one so know how they tend to look. The article mentioned they didn't know what cameraphone it was, so I thought I'd guess. Jeez. Don't pretend that is any more nerdy than laughing at XKCD or the unbelievably stupid wannabe-4chan Digg memes.
If I'd said 'this was taken on the iPhone' you guys would all have gotten instant erections. Gimps.

It does look real, but I don't believe that a camera phone can focus so closely and have such shallow depth of field.- kylef, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1DSLR? Give me a break, the quality would be far better than the photo. It was taken with an Ericsson k800i as stated above:
