My life for Auir!- Birdoftruth, on 06/29/2008, -18/+8Yes, a real warcraft IV RTS.
- zomglolcats, on 06/29/2008, -3/+7They had Warcraft 3. That was the last real game Blizz made before WoW. Would be ridiculous if they started work on a 4th one already. There would be plenty of pissed off people if they did that.
- seraph582, on 06/30/2008, -4/+2hai guzy - i h8 WoW. can I beez s00par kewl lyke youz?
- AeonsAdvocate, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I seriously doubt for a WC4. WoW isnt going to have an ending storyline as an MMO so theres no way WC4 can be make along side WoW's story unless WC4 is a prelude or such to WC1.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 06/29/2008, -2/+72Does it get any worse than having to deal with the torture of waiting? Why do they announce these games years in advance, it only makes it more painful. :(
- BillMoocho, on 06/29/2008, -1/+11I would much rather know that they are working on Diablo 3 now (it seems like they have done an excellent job so far) and even it might not be released until I'm 25 (I'm 20 right now), it will a game that has 5+ years of solid work behind it.
- Omek, on 06/29/2008, -3/+5Indeed...
- pennstatephil, on 06/29/2008, -0/+67I know! I'd rather the announcement go like this:
"WE BRING YOU... STARCRAFT 2 (or diablo 3, enter any game here)"
*crowd erupts*
"Oh, and by the way? It comes out Monday."
*crowd dies* - Bara, on 06/29/2008, -2/+6@pennstatephil... this isn't Apple, and if I've learned anything from Max Payne 2, is that you cant announce a game and release it less than 6 months later without losing a ton of hype.
- RomanThommassen, on 06/29/2008, -1/+3diablo is already in the making for 4 years, blizzard finishes games in 5-5.5 so i would say summer 2009 or fall.
- Dracusis, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4The IGN Interview (defiantly worth a full read) with some random blizz exec said they typically "Announce" a game about 1 to 1.5 years before they ~think~ it'll be ready. It took 3 years from announcement to retail with WoW but that was their first MMO, a fairly huge task.
SCII is due this year so *finger crossed* most of the engine work and Battle.net stuff they do will flow over into Diablo III and if we're lucky blizz will hit that 1 to 1.5 year estimate, if not, oh well, it'll still be awesome. - Shadow503, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2Yes, it's too bad they don't release products like Apple does, where they are officially announced only a month in advance.
- below413, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4Yeah but you know they aren't going to release it just to make a deadline. They keep products back till they are sure they are finished. I'd rather they do that than release half a game and patch it later (i.e. hellgate london).
- roguent, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1See what the game looks like here " http://www.jackpicks.com/2008/06/starcraft-ii-info ... "
Blizzard doesn't release anything without "hardening" it first, Starcraft was the same way, Diablo, Diablo II, etc. I don't mind waiting at all for a company with a track record of releasing a solid product.....now if only they made it a point n' click install in Ubuntu!
- Technohamster, on 06/29/2008, -6/+31What about starcraft ghost?

- stonklit, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0I wonder why you got dugg down for that.
People act as if WoW is a bad game or something.
I'm willing to bet half the people here never played it, because it's really just an online Diablo with a Warcraft theme and 3D graphics applied.
Where do you think the talent system and half the inspiration for classes and gear came from?
- stonklit, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0I wonder why you got dugg down for that.
- iofthestorm, on 06/29/2008, -10/+14Warcraft 4 please, no more WoW *****.
- sn0wright, on 06/29/2008, -3/+32You know WOW is pretty much the reason why Blizz can fund all these new games that will come out (eventually), perhaps even Warcraft 4.
- whyufail, on 06/29/2008, -2/+8Unfortuantely we'll never see it thanks to Blizzard selling out on WoW and completely ***** up the lore. Kinda hard to continue a storyline when one of your premier characters is now being farmed for loot by random groups of unknown heroes.
- latova, on 06/29/2008, -4/+9I wasn't a fan of Warcraft III with all that hero and emphasis on micromanagement (units with like 300 hp but do 15 damage, games take forever).
- Dracusis, on 06/30/2008, -4/+7I could never really get into Warcraft III. The heroes in it annoyed me.
- seraph582, on 06/30/2008, -7/+3"Unfortuantely we'll never see it thanks to Blizzard selling out on WoW" go hang yourself. You just failed. WoW is responsible for so much more than your feeble mind can wrap itself around. I don't care for it anymore, myself, but open your ***** eyes. Look at how much it appeared in the news, for example. The game is doing more for gaming than anything before it - and it's a loathsome genre on top of that.
- rentmitchum, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Why need Warcraft 4 when Starcraft 2 is coming? I've always been of the opinion that Starcraft was superior to Warcraft 1 or 2 in every way, even once it had Bnet. You'd think with me having a sci-fi aversion of sorts and being a D&D player the fantasy genre would win me over, but no, Starcraft was just better!

Starcraft 2 and
WoW: Wraith of the lich king are all due to be released on the 12/30/08.- jamesLankford, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2one week AFTER christmas ?
- Zaneris, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2You know, if someone were to try and have Christmas pushed back a week, that combo might be the only thing capable of doing it.
- 1randomguyO8, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Thats the dates the which were posted on the site. But highly doubt that they will all be released on that date.. if any.
- Brownds, on 06/30/2008, -0/+0WotLK is late November according to what is circulating in Alpha Test. They want to start Beta in late July early August. There is talk about try to release in October.
- jamesLankford, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2one week AFTER christmas ?
- PATSCRU, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2with D3 and SC2, i'd hate to be stuck on a console right now.
- Dauntless1, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0The only advantage is that a console would be gauranteed to run them, anyone seem sys specs on these games yet? Might be new graphics card time:)
P.S. Like I've ever needed an excuse for a new card:) - rentmitchum, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Then you have people like me who have never upgraded their onboard graphics card. I know mine runs WoW and City of Heroes, but I'm gonna doubt it will win SC2 or D3. :(
It's not ever because I just don't want to, like some people. I just never seem to have 80 dollars or however much more than that laying around to spend extra to play one game. - CiDaemon, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't worry about needing a new top-of-the-line PC to run either SC2 or D3. Blizzard's games tend to target a large spectrum of players, so their system requirements usually start out very low to be playable even on very old or low-end PCs while still maintaining a strong visual look for those who can handle it. Just look at Warcraft 3; it ran on my sub-500mhz iMac G3 (albeit slowly at times), but even with my 3-month-old gaming PC it still doesn't look too dated due to available higher graphics settings. Unlike developers like Epic or Crytek, they don't make their minimum requirements excessively high to weed out low-end PCs which could still potentially run the game using simplified settings or lower resolutions; this is one of the reasons that their games take so long to develop, as they have extensively-backwards-compatible graphics engines and wildly varying quality levels, both in modeling and rendering.
- Dauntless1, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0The only advantage is that a console would be gauranteed to run them, anyone seem sys specs on these games yet? Might be new graphics card time:)

- Birdoftruth, on 06/29/2008, -18/+8Yes, a real warcraft IV RTS.
- soupdawg30, on 06/29/2008, -3/+26Damn I hope they keep the Blackhole ability. It looked pretty freakin cool. Maybe overpowering though.
- InternetUser08, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12Sadly it has been removed.
Right after the original Protoss video was shown people began spamming Blizzard forums saying the Black hole was over powered. So it was taken out and instead you can build more than one Mothership at a time now.
Personally i'm with you in thinking the ability was really cool. Oh well.- soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2While I agree the Mothership seemed very overpowered I really wish they would do something to even it out and be able to keep the blackhole.
The video was just to awesome to take the ability out.
- soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2While I agree the Mothership seemed very overpowered I really wish they would do something to even it out and be able to keep the blackhole.
- GTanaka, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2Perhaps as a hackable extra, like basic SC units in WC3 :D
- Jeremyz0r, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1Nurf confusion!! ... *****, wrong article.
- goeric, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1Q: Is the black hole still planned for the Protoss?
A: It used to be on the Mothership, but was taken away when the Mothership became a defense unit in the development of the game. It may come back later in a different way in the development process but no promises.
- InternetUser08, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12Sadly it has been removed.
- Koush, on 06/29/2008, -6/+161Finally, a real use for the overlord.
Does this sound familiar? create 25 overlords, send them to the extreme corner of the map.- mentallyinhell, on 06/29/2008, -0/+22And then keep creating them once you've reached your limit so you hit the map max.
- D14BL0, on 06/29/2008, -1/+36I'd actually make use of my Overlords. I'd take one to scout out the enemy and find his base and keep it there while he built up, and then use another to find the farthest empty space and build a second base, and a third if I had the time.
They're actually pretty damn useful.- AMACTASTIC, on 06/29/2008, -1/+27Sounded like a good use for about...5 overlords
- HolyChimp, on 06/29/2008, -0/+14The first few are useful, but when you have 10 or 15 most of them just sit in a clump and get in the way when you want to click stuff.
- exomni, on 06/30/2008, -4/+6Farthest empty space? Talk about a terrible strategy. If you're going to fast expand with Zerg, you want a space that will actually give you a strategic advantage with launching attacks. Building "farthest space away" is the noobest move imaginable.
- below413, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6If you set them up on patrols you can have vision of the whole map all the time.
- soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4If I had max units I would just make as many overlords as possible and send them with ground units as distractions.
- mantzdapantz, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12then i send in 20 scourge
- ligyron, on 06/29/2008, -1/+60Noob. Overlords detect invisible players, are good for scouting areas, and can also carry units. They are often central to a zerg's winning strategy
- ironrex, on 06/29/2008, -9/+5They can't carry units anymore.
- Cerius, on 06/29/2008, -0/+92Psh..you've never tried the blackout method?
Destroy enemy's air defenses and then totally cover their base with overlords. They can't see their base and they can't build.- Vodd9, on 06/29/2008, -1/+54Stupid money maps...
- Loxias, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5but it only works on a player with their wits about them once, after that when they see that many overlords coming in they hotkey some buildings, a builder, set waypoints etc etc.
- exomni, on 06/30/2008, -0/+12If you've completely destroyed their air defenses, you should have already won the game... unless you're playing some serious noob.
- biffen, on 06/29/2008, -0/+10Players usually have a big bunch of them in the back of their base. I love to build a nydus canal underneath them. They can't see it, even on the minimap. Then, just pour in hordes of hydralisks into their base.
- ThreeDee912, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Just send in some corsairs or something, and then the player cant build anything.
- pprovo1, on 06/29/2008, -1/+7Now they can produce creep...thats just gonna be ***** insane.
- JVIikel, on 06/30/2008, -0/+7Overlords are so useful it's not even funny how little you know. They act as detectors, they basically give the zerg player a full view of the entire map if you spread them out properly, they can be used for mass dropping the opponent's main or dropping their mineral line for a lurker harass. Not to mention selecting 11 mutas and 1 overlord allows you to stack your mutas allowing you to have some insane micro... Btw, the muta stack is a HUGE deal.

Sadly, the only ones I seem to remember now and the dreams where I was betrayed by a friend, then I wake up and I still feel like they've betrayed me even though it was just a dream, freaks me out. - ezcheezbandit, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I hear heroin is a lot of fun.

- funktimus, on 06/29/2008, -2/+43What do you think he means that Battle.net will become a premiere online gaming service when SC2 is released. I'd be really disappointed if you have to start paying to play on BNET.
- pprovo1, on 06/29/2008, -8/+1Why? I like Battle.net
- listereo, on 06/29/2008, -6/+0I think he's teasing people that bnet will magically overtake Steam and XBox Live in terms of popularity and functionality. It's just a lot of huff and puff until they show us how they plan to blow those houses down.
- Syphon8, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9Battle.net was never overtaken by Steam or XBox Live. It's like, twice as popular as both put together.
- Pake, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4Fender, you couldn't be more wrong. CS was popular, but CSS is not even close to the numbers CS had back in CS' prime and CS was still way off StarCraft's numbers.
- LoudMusic, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6Maybe he just means they'll use higher resolution.
;) - soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5I read somthing awhile back when SC2 was first announced that said they have no plans to ever charge for Bnet.
- Deatheragenator, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1Me to
- DalamarArgent, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I can't believe asking about pay for b.net wasn't in the Q&A, instead they talk about stuff already explained. Retarded...
- NaziHatinChimp, on 06/29/2008, -14/+1I liked the heroes. I wish SC2 took advantage of that although I understand it is not as fitting to SC gameplay as it is WC's.
- zomglolcats, on 06/29/2008, -2/+18I personally hated the heroes in Warcraft 3. I realize leveling up the heroes was a part of "strategy", but it was damned annoying. You shouldn't be able to have a near invincible hero that destroys everything just because he's a few levels higher. Maybe some consider that "strategy". To me, its called "overpowered".
- Omek, on 06/29/2008, -1/+7I agree. I hated the hero system in WC3...
- paidhima, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5Heroes worked in WC3 because the emphasis was on unit micromanagement. Smaller forces of versatile units forced the player to heavily manage those units' abilities. In that sense, heroes were useful. Starcraft's emphasis has always been more war-like. The emphasis was on properly working the tech tree, maintaining base defenses, expanding to gain map advantage and resource management.
I liked WC3, but found Starcraft's more strategic combat more interesting. - bizkit00, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2WC is about few powerful leaders leading a squad to victory, SC is about balancing macro and micro management, fighting for and keeping resource advantage. Also, SC is about mobbing your enemy with hundreds of units because you developed a better economy. That's why you'll never see 'World of Starcraft'.
- zomglolcats, on 06/29/2008, -2/+18I personally hated the heroes in Warcraft 3. I realize leveling up the heroes was a part of "strategy", but it was damned annoying. - TheGrog, on 06/29/2008, -9/+4WE NEED HEROS FOR STARCRAFT DOTA!!!!!!!!!!1
- TonyTheTerrible, on 06/30/2008, -3/+2why are you ***** digging them down? we need hero units for UMS plain and simple. have them in the game data for the map creator so we can have some decent user map settings games! - tower defense and UPGRADE THIS ONE UNIT'S ATTACK TO 255 just dont cut it.
- TheGrog, on 06/29/2008, -9/+4WE NEED HEROS FOR STARCRAFT DOTA!!!!!!!!!!1
- Fedaykin311, on 06/29/2008, -13/+3Pfth, still lame 2d terrain (lets play defend the mesa!), flying units that actually just hover in a lame fashion, small unit limits, no truly long range units, and puny group sizes. That's so pre 1997 RTS.
- HolyChimp, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Do I detect a man that likes his Total Annihilation?
- Fedaykin311, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Indeed =)
- 1randomguyO8, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Well I hope that they dont have the 12 unit max for a group size :/ like they did on the original starcraft.
- HolyChimp, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Do I detect a man that likes his Total Annihilation?
- hadak, on 06/29/2008, -7/+54It sounds like they fixed my biggest gripe about Warcraft 3: heroes.
- seraph582, on 06/30/2008, -4/+6i dugg you up because the hero system from WC3 indeed sucked ass - but they didn't fix anything - it's a different franchise that evolved differently from Starcraft. It's meant to have them, SC is not. Nothing needs "fixing."
- soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -2/+4Heroes in WC3 is why I never bought the game. I loved WC2 and couldn't wait to play WC3. Played at a friends and immediately went back to SC.
I like armies. Not 1 hero and 20 units. - justastatistic, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6I actually like the hero concept in WC3. I like the idea that you play with one to three heroes and they keep getting stronger as the game progresses. But Blizzard has made the right decision in keeping Starcraft's pure RTS model where as Warcraft 3 combines RTS and some elements of RPG.
- hadak, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5I humbly respect your opinion, however I disagree. It's a ratcheting effect between the franchises. They found that certain things worked in one game, and carried it over to the next iteration of another, and likewise found that other things may not work so well, and scratched them all together. I'm sure they will keep the hero system in Warcraft (from what they've said, and how I see it) but something tells me, they will tone it down. I can see a less powerful hero, and a larger army, in the next Warcraft.
- soupdawg30, on 06/30/2008, -2/+4Heroes in WC3 is why I never bought the game. I loved WC2 and couldn't wait to play WC3. Played at a friends and immediately went back to SC.
- yohnstoppable, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I agree that heroes in Warcraft 3 suck. Sending out heroes to grind mobs before facing your enemy in an rts is such a stupid concept that I just don't see how Blizzard thought it was a good idea.
If they want to implement hero type units, take a page out of dawn of war's book. I'd be fine with adding upgrades to them like normal units, but grinding mobs for xp is just dumb.
- seraph582, on 06/30/2008, -4/+6i dugg you up because the hero system from WC3 indeed sucked ass - but they didn't fix anything - it's a different franchise that evolved differently from Starcraft. It's meant to have them, SC is not. Nothing needs "fixing."
- UltraDavid, on 06/29/2008, -0/+50"They didn't want the game to too heavily emphasize micromanaging units. They want players to have time to deal with the macro issues of resources, expansion and strategy. So they designed most units to be simple movers and shooters, not like the more complex units of Warcraft 3."
I love the strategy of a good rts game, but I don't like the usual emphasis on micromanagement, so this is awesome news for me.- paidhima, on 06/29/2008, -1/+41My feelings exactly. What I enjoyed most about Starcraft was that I felt like a battlefield commander rather than a unit babysitter. I like the tech and resource management aspect, and the map advantage strategy. But when it comes to combat, I like my little buddies to pull their own weight without me wiping their chins and making sure they're wearing mittens and a warm jacket at all times.
- kappuru, on 06/29/2008, -0/+18Yeah, I'm all for not having my goliaths dancing around like idiots, but I still hope there's micro for some units in the game. Taking out 20 zealots with 2 vultures was always fun.

- control98408, on 06/29/2008, -1/+7Wow, lots of changes from when they first came out with news. I thought they were mostly done, but if they're still adding and removing units and abilities, it might still be some time until it gets released.

- winampman2, on 06/29/2008, -2/+17So, reading about the Zerg in that article... looks like they got some huge advantage boosts. I hope they kept everything balanced with the other races.
I hope this screenshot isn't like 8 minutes into the game.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/medi ...- nerdherder, on 06/29/2008, -0/+22Of course they will keep it balanced. They are not retarded. This is Blizzard we are talking about.

- clayasaurus, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7Teleport to them, not teleport them
- Trichomonas, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6Even then it's just the Queen that can do that (and you only get 1 Queen at a time).
- rentmitchum, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1So the Queen is like the Mothership now. What are the Terran getting for their one-at-a-time unit?
I love that dynamic, one really powerful unit that's horribly expensive but extremely powerful. I wonder how long it'd take a chorus of Yamoto's or a swarm of Carrier Interceptors to take one down now. The Mothership looked like it had a lot of HP.
- SirTheGuy, on 06/30/2008, -0/+8No, that screenshot is 2 minutes into the game
- wburglett, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3The Terrans already have siege tanks?
- exomni, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4Judging from the physics lab, they're in for the long haul.
- rentmitchum, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I like the Swarm infestation ability of the ***** Queen. So let me get this straight, the Queen can now infest it's own ***** BUILDINGS to make attack units?! I wonder if it will be one specific unit or if it will be specific to what kind of zerg building you swarm, like a Hive with those big ***** pincer looking things on top, that'd make a badass monster. Then maybe a creep colony could be like.. something mediocre.
Baneling ground attack only? Probably, they have the Scourge for the air attackers.
- BonersMilloy, on 06/29/2008, -11/+3That gave me a BONER

- wburglett, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3The entire game just started out as a Soviet battle plan. It was bad translation to Korean that caused its creation.
- dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1Wow, I just noticed my pun.
- KingGorilla, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7I knew starcraft was old but I didn't know it was that old!
- bencho, on 06/29/2008, -2/+31"No Hero for you!"
YES! I am greatly relieved with that segment! I never got into WarcraftIII because of the damn heroes. It was just too annoying to have to take care of one unit. I would have been devastated if they did that to SCII but I am so happy that that part of gameplay will remain unchanged!- lgh0s7l, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4yeah thats definetly good news. s/c is a strict science. the gameplay is, in my eyes, perfect...from the looks of things they may remain that =]
- welliwonder, on 06/29/2008, -13/+2Does it have the WoW color cheme like in diablo 3? Yup! LOL CHEAP *****
- seraph582, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3go hang yourself
- dmcbride6, on 06/29/2008, -2/+12I like how the first picture in the SC2 gallery they have there is actually WoW.
- specialbuddy1, on 06/29/2008, -6/+1They talk about the Nydus as if it's something new. It was in the old game.
- kappuru, on 06/29/2008, -3/+2nydus worms are movable units and don't have to be built on creep.
- baldr, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4kappuru is wrong: nydus worms are only usable on creep. but they are much different than in sc 1. There is now a nydus network, so units can move freely (in and out) throughout the network, and aren't destroy if one point of the network is destroyed during transport.
- kappuru, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2whoops, you're right. thanks for the correction.
- drbadass, on 06/29/2008, -2/+15jesus, i can't wait to break out the mountain dew and doritos and relive the starcraft lan party glory of the past when this comes out

- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 06/29/2008, -15/+2Um I LOVED Starcraft, but did anyone else expect this to look better? This looks like someone took screenshots in Starcraft I, put them in photoshop and hit "Sharpen image"
- ninja0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Are you blind?
- ace429k, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1i believe he is. i looks alot better. more crisp and clean. easier to see whats what on screen.
- starkruzr, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The difference is that it doesn't look crowded and over-complicated, which I always felt WC3 suffered from a bit.
This game will probably play well on a wide range of machines. Good on Blizzard for focusing on gameplay rather than shiny *****.
- 1randomguyO8, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I kind of agree with you there. These graphics kind of look a bit cartoony and chunky. Especially when you compare them with command and conquer 3's sexy graphics. But who knows I still think they are a atleast 9 months off the final release.
- ninja0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Are you blind?
- sgvprelude, on 06/29/2008, -0/+26So when the ***** is this suppose to be released? I've been waiting for like 10 damn years.
- Setreal, on 06/29/2008, -0/+30Well it was only three years between the announcement of WOW and its release. Diablo 2 was about the same lag between announcement and release. That puts us at...right about June 2010. *kills self*
- 1randomguyO8, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1By then I would no long be a PC gamer :/
- Syphon8, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2They've been working on it for 4, so probably sometime in 2009 or 10.
- xNIBx, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Autumn 2009 is my guestimate.
- Syphon8, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2My guestimate is that it will ship on April 1st of next year, or the year after. No other time of year.
- dionysius89, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1People demand quick release dates, and then promptly complain when they realize they've forked over $50 to beta test a game.
Take your time, Blizzard.- stonklit, on 06/30/2008, -2/+1Stop kissing ass.
Plenty of great games are released in under 2-3 years dev time.
The reality of the situation is their taking their sweet ass time for the sole purpose of building up hype to increase sales... as if they need it.
I used to work for a company that would pull that crap where a game would be close to release, then they'd urge the team to go back and find something better to add to the system to avoid either competing games being released at the same time, or because they felt there wasn't enough buzz surrounding the game.
They're doing the same thing here when they don't need to be. - stonklit, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0Oh, a good example of someone who did this was Rockstar with GTA4.
Too many people would be held up playing Halo 3/CoD4 online, but along with the estimated release of Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, they ended up sliding it to April.
So they can claim it was new features or that something wasn't done, but the thing is these games don't start production until the overall scope of the game has been fleshed out. It's not like they're developing these things and randomly going, "You know what'd be a good idea?!" - no, that part has been done with.
- stonklit, on 06/30/2008, -2/+1Stop kissing ass.
- LaughingDjinn, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1I saw on X-play earlier this week that all the big box stores have the release date at Dec 3 2008, then of course when they asked blizzard for conformation they said "when its done." So take it as you will.
- Setreal, on 06/29/2008, -0/+30Well it was only three years between the announcement of WOW and its release. Diablo 2 was about the same lag between announcement and release. That puts us at...right about June 2010. *kills self*
- Vodd9, on 06/29/2008, -2/+5I'm really happy that they've decided make the micro-management part easier. I think that the biggest strategy part resides on the macro-management part. Besides, my micro has alway sucked.
- hokie47, on 06/29/2008, -0/+103I just started to play starcraft again. Still a great game. The funny thing is when I was 14 my mom would nag me to stop playing, but now it is my wife. I can't win.

- Dymphna, on 06/29/2008, -5/+6I do hope that they continue to allow heros for custom maps, as all of the ___Craft games thrive in the longterm based on their custom maps. Without heros and item holding abilities ala WC3 heros, you won't be able to make the same experience for SC2 customs (Dota, AoS, EotS, Enfo's, Skibi's, etc.)
I know Bliz said they'd keep that sort of functionality in the editor, which is all I am really asking for, don't need it in the campaign.- zenthax, on 06/30/2008, -2/+0who the hell wants freaking DoTA in SC2!?

RELEASE DATES. GIVE THEM.
This was announced *last year* and we still don't know dick on when it's coming out. And all we get are infrequent updates to the site about new units. Yeah, great.
Same crap is gonna happen with Diablo 3. Hey, maybe by October we'll get to see a new class. Probably won't see light of day on that until 2010.
Already been 10 years since the original SC, and creeping up on 8 for Diablo 2.
Yet they can crank out 2 WoW expansions. WoW's a great game, and they managed to do everything they've done with it so far in only 3.5 years. Why can't they give their other games as much attention?
I seriously don't wanna hear another word out of Blizzard until it's a release date for either game.- zenthax, on 06/30/2008, -1/+0just because
- TheInimitable, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2OK. Unplug the internets. We'll let you know via e-mail when it's safe to come back.
- BoSuu, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3I for one enjoy hearing about the progress of blizzards upcoming games. The blizzcon/WWI events are tons of fun to watch and blizzard gives out a ton of information. Blizzards interaction with their fans is amazing and they go far beyond what any other game studio out there does and always have.
Be happy and welcome your Blizzard overlords. - Enigmocracy, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Ever heard of a game called SSBB?
They delayed the game 1 year and 4 months past the original release date. And people were pissed. Release dates do nothing but make people pissed when they aren't met.- Protoss, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Thanks for reminding me. At least if they don't give out arbitrary release dates, no one (i.e. me) gets their hopes up, then has those hopes dashed months, weeks or even DAYS before that supposed release date.
- glutamate, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Bliz should just give out a release date of 2020, just to shut you impatients up.
- exomni, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2It will come out when it's out. Why care? Seriously, I'm actually dreading the release as right now I have no time to play.

- slime73, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1They will release a release date when they are sure that they can keep it. If you didn't have your head stuck in the ground you'd be keeping up with the weekly Q and A's with a blizzard rep on their forums. There have been over 30 so far, I think.
- sleepwalkers, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Making an expansion pack to a game where the existing infrastructure and game is already solid and working is far easier than creating a completely new game.
- dogarms, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1not to mention WoW makes Blizzard $120M a MONTH in subscription fees. If you were CEO of Blizzard, where do you think you would want the company to focus on?
