5 Social Networking Sites Of The Wealthy

- benholmes, on 05/14/2008, -2/+58I really dislike the forbes.com model of feeding you "content list" after content list after content list if you keep your browser on their page. For this reason, I don't recommend them.
- reflex768, on 05/14/2008, -5/+5Yeah, it's a real pain alright. But it's doubly so because I always like their lists. If they sucked it wouldn't be so irritating.
- greatgatsbyII, on 05/14/2008, -0/+16I don't like how it changes the page automatically. I'm looking at the pic and reading what it says and it's changing on me.
- dn11, on 05/14/2008, -0/+19Forbes.com: crappy multi page lists (inexplicably displayed as slide shows), for the wealthy.
- charlietuna, on 05/14/2008, -3/+2It seems to be a hallmark of the extra thick and zesty brand of capitalism. The same type that brought us pay toilets.
- jondo85, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5Agreed, can everyone stop linking to these things and link to the real articles? (same goes on other sites)

- Envark, on 05/14/2008, -8/+8LOL Rich People.
- dmb012, on 05/14/2008, -11/+3A little to high class for me!!! I like the social website www.humzoo.com. It is socialization for the average worker. Good times and easy to use.
- reisrocks, on 05/14/2008, -11/+5what you really mean is "too high class". See the difference between to and too. http://www.englishrules.com/writing/2005/to-and-to ...
- Stradenko, on 05/14/2008, -2/+8English is two complicated.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1pedantic, you even make jerks look bad.
- reisrocks, on 05/14/2008, -11/+5what you really mean is "too high class". See the difference between to and too. http://www.englishrules.com/writing/2005/to-and-to ...
- hayzeus, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9Clearly a target list for the next big defacement campaign.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Im writing porn spamming macros right now, I just need volunteers to help pay for the pay sites.
- MrFurious2k, on 05/14/2008, -3/+19Interesting, but does anyone here actually care? There are plenty of "clubs" and "organizations" that the wealthy, socialites have that us commoners can't belong to - but honestly, am I really going to be debating the best place to have my yacht repaired? I'm still stung by the high price of gas, I doubt I have virtually anything in common with them.
- violentvinyl, on 05/14/2008, -0/+8I agree, to an extent. From a sociological standpoint I find it fascinating, but depressing. It's bad for society the way inbreeding is for genetics.
HOWEVER, and I'm not rich by any definition of the word, I did actually find myself (recently) wondering what a good place for lunch in Monaco would be, as well as a nice hotel in Barcelona (because I'll be in the Mediterranean in July, not because I often randomly wonder about cafes in European countries). That's not something I can ask my "friends" on MySpace. So I'd venture to say there are more like me who are not "wealthy socialites" that are interested in this kind of information.
All that said, I watched a few of the nightlife videos on SQUA.RE and it's the same grimy, drunk, old douchebags hitting on wanna-be supermodel white chicks that can't dance that you see in ANY other club around the world.- ptemple, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2For lunch in Monaco there are a couple of good spots. If you go to Casino Square in Monte Carlo, there is a good Italian (forget the name) that is reasonable overlooking the square next to the gardens. Otherwise head down that road, go past the Fairmont hotel, and turn left at the bottom of the road just before Avenue Princess Grace. There are a couple of nice restaurants there. If you want 'trendy' then go just a little further to the Grimaldi Forum and go to Zebra on the top floor. Food is not bad and there is a great terrace and view. I know pretty much every bar and club in Monaco, and so if you need any nightlife advice then email me phillip at yahoo dot co dot uk.
These clubs and organisations are exclusive but are a mix of old and new money. There are plenty of people who have started from nothing and got there through guts, determination, drive and vision. However, commoner is a mind-set and not a genetic trait. Fortune favours the brave, and if you are single-minded enough you can certainly work your way into any social strata that you feel best suits you.
The first thing the wealthy person wants is a safe environment for their family. Secondly a place to protect them from people (or government) leeching excessively off them. Third a good social networking place. MrFurious2k is correct in that due to different needs many of the forums will be quite boring. Eg where can I find a reliable cleaner in x area, or does anyone know a good interior designer for y type of property. Sure you can find out where the best parties in St Tropez are going to be, but unless you are prepared to fork out up to 20,000e per bottle of Champagne there isn't much point going.
If you want to be happy don't keep comparing yourself to other people. Find out what makes YOU happy and follow your dreams!
Phillip.

- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -2/+23I was going to write some witty comment insulting snobby rich people, but I'm so exasperated with society that I don't even want to bother.
- BurnTees, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1did that count?
- Tyviris, on 05/14/2008, -5/+1Neat bit of info, didn't expect the memberships to be so big yet small at some of these sites.
- reisrocks, on 05/14/2008, -2/+14Hah, I got to an ultra expensive and posh Gym.. they're all self centered, grumpy, and very boring people. So these sites probably suck, too!
- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3...why do you go there? The best gyms are like dungeons, nothing but rusty metal and cold walls.
- reisrocks, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1OOOhhh Kaayyy... I only got a 1 day free pass to an ultra expensive posh gym... and it sucked. Good point you make about rusty metal dungeon gyms being the best.
- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3...why do you go there? The best gyms are like dungeons, nothing but rusty metal and cold walls.
- Totz83, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8***** off! Come join the breadline on bebo! lol
- NecroDigg, on 05/14/2008, -0/+31I didnt bother reading it, because of the horrible layout. Can't these sites keep lists on ONE PAGE?!
- MrZaiko, on 05/14/2008, -9/+2The layout this, the layout that bla bla bla
You can make good money in revolutionizing the content layout world!
*****... you might end up a member in one of these sites.
Let me know your progress =)- pakke, on 05/14/2008, -2/+8I know you're trying to be sarcastic (and failing at that), but you do have a point. Some people actually make a living creating usable layouts. Unfortunately none of those people seem to have been involved in the making of Forbes.com.
- MrZaiko, on 05/14/2008, -9/+2The layout this, the layout that bla bla bla
- dn11, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3i thought that's what facebook and twitter were already for
- eugee, on 05/14/2008, -1/+45Forbes needs to ***** hire web usability specialists.
- Lindquist, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1You made me click just to see how bad it was.
- Asvetic, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6I wonder what happened to that email service for the filthy rich? The one where you paid like $100,000 just to open the account.
- taradisiac, on 05/14/2008, -2/+39Who cares what stupid elitists yuppies / juniors do? If they think money is a filter for better human beings, let them be happy in their ignorance. Buried.
- orangetiki, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5+1 from me for that one
- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Money is a filter for better human beings, just generally reversed of what you are thinking.
- thingnumber2, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8I would almost digg this, but I find it difficult to get through Forbes' obnoxious slideshow.
- flair1, on 05/14/2008, -0/+11these sites are perfect to find suckers that are dumb enough to buy 2k bottles of vodka at a club
- diggerachi, on 05/14/2008, -0/+23I can't stand forbes. Their website design sucks. I only see 4 social sites listed unless I'm crazy. Here's the list for those who hate slide shows.
Taken From Forbes :
Executives and other affluent types now have their own space to connect, rather than logging on MySpace. To get in the door, though, you have to fit the profile. Even if you do, though, some circles are easier to break into than others.
aSmallWorld.net :
Members: 320,000
Perks: Chit chat with the ultra-rich on the site's forum about the best hotels in Monaco, buy a yacht from a member on the Market Guide, scour the luxury travel guide or browse the social calendar. This is by far the most active and well-known exclusive social networking site on the web … but competition is biting its heels.
Getting in: Members, who pay no fee, induct newcomers on the basis of education, profession and their network of contacts. If you don't know a member with invite powers, you're out of luck.
Diamondlounge.com :
Members: 150
Perks: Modeled on real-world club Studio 54, the site is moving away from its initial emphasis on social and business networking and focusing more on dating and fun, according to owner Arya Marafie.
Getting in: Potential club members can apply online and will be accepted or declined based on what they do and whom they know. A $50 monthly fee is expected to keep out the riffraff.
Squa.re :
Members: 600; 10,000 page views a month
Perks: Want to see behind the velvet ropes at the hottest club in London or who attended the Marc Jacobs post-show party in New York? Or do you want to show off which A-listers you mingled with last night? Squa.re features community-generated Internet TV focusing on nightlife, style, high living and luxury travel. Each video or photograph uploaded by members has to be approved by the Squa.re staff for quality and class.
Getting in: E-mail Squa.re and request an invite if you're a trend-setter in (or even remotely connected to) one of the network's four channels, but getting your user-generated content featured is more challenging.
LuxuryRatings.com (launching in May) :
Perks: Unlike other exclusive networking sites, this one won't be "chatty," according to the Luxury Institute's CEO Milton Pedraza. It will be a network of member-generated ratings for brands and the people behind them. So if you're looking for an art dealer, financial adviser or wealth broker with a recommendation from like-minded wealthy peers, this could be the place to go.
Getting in: $250 annual fee.- jabela, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Thanks, I have to admit I went to the comments rather than the Forbes page... It is just such a nuisance.
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -8/+3ah :)

peace,- Bilabrin, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I also noticed you had a copy of photoshop open there :)
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1yes to make my screenshot and use the red pencil .... :)
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -5/+2what's your name, i'll add you as a friend ;)
- matschig, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3YEAH I'M ON THOSE SITES TOO!
- alamala, on 05/14/2008, -0/+7Anyone else find it amusing that none of them could afford a decent domain name?
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -3/+3asmallworld is accessible through asw.com :)
- matschig, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Dude, no one ***** believes you have a profile there. Shut up
- crapmatic, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1asmallworld is pretty darn good, but it's ironic that they couldn't even "buy out" the holder of the dot com version.
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -3/+3asmallworld is accessible through asw.com :)
- normalkid0615, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2anyone else find it amusing that rather than driving around ferraris and having yacht parties they are on "social networking sites". I don't even have a myspace and my facebook is all but interesting.
- freezeout, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8(adjusts monocle) hmmm, yees.. finally I can socialize online without having to worry about all the peasants. champaign anyone?
- novemberdream07, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4(adjusts opera binoculars) you mean champagne?
- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Mmmmm. Indubiously.
- novemberdream07, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4(adjusts opera binoculars) you mean champagne?
- username484767, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1sounds good to me
- Codylan, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1Ah - the inevitable class war.
- lordmetroid, on 05/14/2008, -2/+2Bahh, Club 54 in New York wasn't anything much special.
- chkdg8, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1***** that site!
- gezgin, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4The slide show is annoying
- raublekick, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2The only difference between these sites and country clubs is that country clubs have nice golf courses.
- TSCheredar, on 05/14/2008, -1/+2Surprised no one has suggested infiltrating yet.
- thomasprebble, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3Seriously. ***** em! I'm already tired enough of snobbery in real life.
- raada, on 05/14/2008, -1/+4I don't want to talk to people who wants to claim their main quality is being rich. As little as I want to talk to people whose main quality is being poor. Richness is how much money you have in the bank, not how interesting person you are.
- shadowfoxmi, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3like Paris Hilton!
- simplesue, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Lame list for wealthy snobs. Who cares?
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1you don't have to be rich
just to know the right person who will invite you
then you will tell me to know these kind of people you need to hang out in rich social circles, but not really. - NateTheApe21, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1i hate the sites and everything they stand for,
mainly because i can't get in them - zerhynn, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1These people don't know the meaning of exclusive. They've probably never even HEARD of luelinks. That's because it doesn't exist.
- ryazwinski, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1*yawn*
- akatsuki, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Douchebaggery... .just because people are rich doesn't mean they have much in the way of taste. All one has to do is go out in the meatpacking district of NYC to see that.
- BurnTees, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1i don't associate rich with meatpacking district. meatpacking district = bridge and tunnel.
- zymosis, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1Finally, somewhere I can fit in...lol
- JoshuaLowe, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Don't they mean '5 social networking sites where people pretend to be wealthy on the Interweb'?
- cbarning, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Rich Social Networking Sites = Tea Parties
- visarya, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2there are only 4 site
- InorganicMatter, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1College kids used to have something cool like this too...it filtered out the stupid and emo kiddies from MySpace. But then Facebook had to go and sell out.
- CHAD3814, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1I see these "it's not all-on-one-page" complaints all the time on digg. Do you think that they never thought of that? Every site that breaks content up to multiple pages does so to increase their ad delivery rate. There is this notion that the more ads delivered, the more click-throughs.
Guess what, it's true. If they would make more money by showing all the content on one page, then they would switch to serving that way as fast as they can. So please, if you have nothing constructive to add, stfu.- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2I'm terribly sorry. I won't get frustrated at getting force fed as many ads as they can shove at me next time. I'll go back to watching the 15 second ads before my 30 second video clips now. Thanks.
- ScorpioDragon, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1Wonder how long it'll take before some hackers decide to have fun with those sites?
- crapmatic, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Years. The hackers are too busy playing around with phpBB exploits and writing lame viruses to bother with socially and economically relevant websites. Well, with the exception of whoever did the thing on the RIAA site.
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3i think i do, message me through a shout and i'll look you up.
look at this screenshot :)

peace,- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2That looks terribly, terribly suspicious...
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1it's not ... i swear
where would you find a screenshot of the CURRENT page of a forum inside asw ?
- jackieokennedy, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1it's not ... i swear
- Scottamus, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1sounds like fun.
- ghostfaceDX, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2That looks terribly, terribly suspicious...
- Alexx3k, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1A friend invited me to asmallworld - it's like a really oldschool facebook without the feeds or ... friends. I only found one person i knew :( I'm so not high-class lol
- liquisoft, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3If you're rich and pay $250 to join a social network, then you shouldn't be rich.
- elfuego, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2As long as their daughters keep using myspace and facebook, I'm not too worried.
- CCricers, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Classmates.com is the Facebook for people with expendable cash.
- sgtpppr, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4Stop digging these 'slideshows' masquerading as 'articles'.
- robthom, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Buried for wannabe *****.
You fanboys just cant let a day go by without drooling over something on a pedestal.
