8 Good Examples Of What Happens When Geeks Have Children
photobasement.com — It’s inevitable that as children of the 80 ’s (and of the video game era, and the computer era, etc.) grow up they will start having children. It’s also inevitable that many will use those children to express their personalities, often with pretty amusing results.

- VinceNoir, on 02/13/2008, -17/+5No... this is the result of trend humping morons jumping onto the "geek" bandwagon and completely negating anything that is actually unique and interesting about them. Then they foist their insecurities on their children. This whole "geek" thing has GOT TO STOP. It's sad and disgusting. Perfectly normal people are trying to adopt "geek" as an image and they've taken away any meaning from that state of being. A real geek doesn't follow trends. A real geek isn't a gadget freak. A real geek usually isn't successful in their career. And if you've made it to management level and/or parent before the age of 30, you were NEVER a geek. You're simply an idiot in search of an image. In ten years, you'll look back at this whole geek thing like people looked at disco in the 80s. Stop acting like tools and be yourselves. You might actually become interesting.
- enclaved, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5Talk about nonsensical rants
- VinceNoir, on 02/13/2008, -6/+2So you like being a lame sheeple? How's that working out for your self esteem? Anyone care to explain why so-called "geeks" are so defensive?
- enclaved, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2No! Go away! Leave me alone! /hides
- VinceNoir, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1There there... it's OK. Here's some feather oil to smooth those ruffles.

- VinceNoir, on 02/13/2008, -6/+2So you like being a lame sheeple? How's that working out for your self esteem? Anyone care to explain why so-called "geeks" are so defensive?
- Namingway, on 02/13/2008, -1/+6I agree with vince...It was a nonsensical rant, however I was still able to catch the pitch.. I dugg this story down for being ***** stupid. What person is known as a geek for having an ipod....wtf
- blueangel5383, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5the requirement for being a "real geek" is not necessarily being a real loser. A real geek certainly doesn't follow trends, it just so happened that geeks started the trend and now they are part of it... chill out yo.
- Draked, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3I don't know, I thought being called a geek through the 4 years of (hell) high school automatically granted me geek status. As an expecting Dad, I cannot wait to dress up the little squirt as Princess Leia or a ninja (which would depend on said child's gender, which is unknown at this time.)
- hierophantus, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Your comment reminds me of that episode of Simpsons where everyone started acting like Bart and it bummed him out. "Be like the boy!"
It also reminds me of indie douches who can't handle it when their treasured bands get slightly popular.
It's something you get over when you gain a little self-confidence and no longer tie your worth as a being to your public identity.- VinceNoir, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1GASP! Really Doctor Phil! I had NO IDEA! Heh... that was one of my favorite episodes. Poor Bart. The rest of the ***** in town needed to find their own way instead of copping a feel off of his preferred way of life. Come to think of it, you do too.
- halleyscomet, on 02/13/2008, -1/+1So you define a "geek" as an antisocial loser who is also a failure at work? I'll bet you're just a high school jock trying to rag on "those dam nerds" because their intelligence and superior earing potential threatens you.
- VinceNoir, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Wrong on all counts. I suffered through high school like any self-respecting geek. But, I also had lots of non-geek interests. Here's my geek "cred":
1. Started an electronics hobby at age six
2. Got my first soldering iron at age ten
3. Was reading electronic schematics at age eight
4. Built my first computer at age ten, including soldering all the ICs to the motherboard (Sinclair ZX80 FTW!)
5. Started making my first electronic modifications to radios, televisions, and other audio gear by age nine
6. Got into GUI stuff at age 16 (1986) with my Atari ST
7. Moved onto the PC platform (grudgingly) in 1994
8. Linux, then Unix experience in the 90s (my late 20s and early 30s)
The point is that all this stuff came easy to me. And on top of that, I'm a science fiction (in book form mostly since most films these days are just action movies set in the future) fan. So I'd say that most people would assume I'm a geek. But here are the reasons I'm not a geek by the standard modern definition:
1. I had my first girlfriend at age 15, although it was shortlived because she was a complete nutball who claimed to be from another planet and wrote poetry about how much she didn't really care about me at all.
2. I had a girlfriend in high school by age 15 and dated her for two and a half years until she left for college
3. I had a girlfriend in college that I dated for about four years until we split up
4. I had a girlfriend after college that I dated for thirteen years until I married her
5. Between the ages of twelve and twenty something, I changed gears and became a musician because I knew that was something that I liked as well as the fact that it made me more interesting to the opposite sex. I have musical talent as well as electronic ability so it wasn't that hard to become a synth pop master in the 80s.
6. I also really got into cooking and interior design/architecture for a bit because I liked it and, again it would make me more interesting to the opposite sex.
7. I got quite good at rehabbing which is where I learned skills like: plastering, re-wiring an entire old house for modern electricity, general repair around the house, painting like a pro, design and construction of original modifications to the house. All skills that impressed my adult female relations. Smart women want men who know how things work and are able to fix them. Not men who pay too much for someone else to do the work...
8. There aren't too many women who can resist a man who knows how to cook and cook well. Learning a few fancy dishes can go a long way to making a great impression when you're seeking a long term relationship (or a simple screw).
9. Photography
10. New age man shoulder to lean on...
So, I'm not the typical "geek" nor would I want to be one. They're so one dimensional: "Look at this great new gadget that I bought (but don't understand)"! or "Snerk! Bwahaha... I understand this stupidly complex joke that is related to something geeky. Stand in awe before my mastery of this mojo"! or "I wear stupid looking and ugly glasses even though I could wear contacts because I like to wear my geek pride on my sleeve". Sorry, but that's all lame, and that's all I see when I meet supposed "geeks". However, when I put them to the test, they always fail...
- VinceNoir, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Wrong on all counts. I suffered through high school like any self-respecting geek. But, I also had lots of non-geek interests. Here's my geek "cred":

- Grimdotdotdot, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Yeah, because we don't have enough top ten charts.
- bliz, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Because he does not subscribe to the rather arbitrary convention of top x list, where x is a multiple of 10. I bet he would make a top 14 list if he had 14 of them.
- halleyscomet, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1It's a joke about Base 8 math and binary systems. I suspect most computer programmers will get it.

Granted, I think they are geeks because they waste their money on a brand name mp3 player instead of just buying a cheap one.
buried this story... digg me down I don't care it's stupid & so are you if you call the owners of these children geeks... these are just people that think they are cool or funny for putting their child in some stupid D & D *****. Then made even more stupid by someone calling this 8 Good Examples of what happens when geeks have children... then it spiraled into the farthest reaches of stupid when people started digging this up to front page instead of burying it or leaving it alone.
go ahead, dig me down & make digg worse for it.- Glenn711A, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2SOMEONE got an E on the penis chart...
- Light0, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Wish granted.
- meez, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1iPod's ARE cheap these days, the classics at least...
There are a lot of better players out there, but I went iPod because it's cheap, and is somewhat well supported in linux now, thanks to gtkpod. - halleyscomet, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1That was a nice effort at trolling, but you failed to convey anything beyond general surliness and animosity. If you really want a good response you need to be more specified in your attacks. So far you've just fallen back on jibes others have already made and come off as a surly jackass who just wants to insult people.
If you want people to take your trolling seriously then you need to put some thought into what will get people riled up, and not just act like the kind of half witted unevolved moron most Geeks learned to ignore in high school.
Are you trying to evoke a dumb unthinking High School bully? If so, it won't trigger traumatic memories in most Geeks. It will just get you slotted to the "This baboon can be ignored" category where you'll be ignored.

- kittyfarts, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5Ha! My kid's not the only one! He alternates between a kick ass Obi Wan costume and Jango Fett depending on the mood, and has almost talked me into making him a jet pack for Jango Fett because "it's not right" without it. That's what I get for marrying a geek and knowing how to sew.
- xptoast, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4Build him a jet pack then. Pringles cans and some paper mache or something.
