- eddruckman, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Seeing this, it makes me a little sad that Bill Hicks was taken from us way too young. I think he was only 40 at the time. Man, what he could have said about these years. What's even sadder is that after Bill died, there was the forgettable American Comedy Awards. The nominees for Best Comedian were Carrot Top and Hicks. Brett Butler read the winner, Carrot Top, and you could hear in her voice the disappointment. The same people who voted for this (It was determined by comedy club goers.) were like the c*nt in the audience. RIP Bill.
- grandinferno, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Let me explain why Bill Hick's carried on like this (and a lot like this). He was continually frustrated at the low intelligence of his audiences in the US, particularly because he toured a lot in the south and a lot of his jokes either didn't gel well there (due to religious and other issues) or just went over heads. He basically stopped being so 'aggresive' after he toured the UK and got the kudos he felt he deserved. If you note in his later shows in the US he was hardly as temperamental as he had been previously. I think it was just an act of desperation from a man who just wanted to get a message across. A message that seemed to fall on deaf ears at the time.
His best 'heckler smashing' was when he asked this guy who continually interupted him whether he took a guitar to Eric Clapton concerts and stopped Clapton mid-song and said 'no no Eric, listen to this one man'.
