wftv.com — Eight were arrested, including six teen girls, after they recorded themselves beating the crap out of a 16-year-old girl so they could post the video on YouTube and MySpace.

If you're attacked, you fight.

            Having said that, I feel really bad for the girl. With some luck the kids that did this to her will pay for it for the rest of their lives, one way or another.

        I highly doubt that inside this teens house, where one says "Don't break the shelf!", they are going to gang up on this girl and beat her senseless, they were more or less just playing with her. A stick to the face would make them all think twice.

          My guess is that the superiority of the attackers over the victim was established slowly and methodically for a long time before this incident, and that the girl just automatically capitulated and was unable to find any strength inside herself, as sad as that is...

          I honestly can't think of a more fitting quote than that from Seinfeld (paraphrased here I'm sure..):
          "Girls don't give wedgies, we just tease someone until they develop an eating disorder."

          And now they've kicked it up a notch.

The only thing that kept me from becoming a bloody mess (like some of my friends) was my ability to return their punches twice as hard. Do that once or twice and they go pick on someone else. Unfortunately, at least once that "someone else" got stuffed inside a garbage can and rolled 500' down a hill, into a ravine. Seriously, defend yourself before it goes too far. And punish those that perpetrate violence -- it may seem hypocritical or something, but it is at the same time extremely effective (in my experience).

Looking at the average 17 year old (or 16, or 15, etc.) and comparing them to what my friends and I - and people in general - did just 4 years ago, the amount of respect that they hold for their peers and authority has plummeted, and what they feel they deserve has skyrocketed. I really wonder what the cause of this is....
