Iraqi Guy Walks Off Huge IED Explosion watch!
break.com — An IED basically explodes right in front of some Iraqi dude and amazingly he just walks it off. My middle school gym coach would be proud of him.
- 1726 diggs
- digg it
- DeathWish808, on 05/24/2008, -61/+131Just wondering why you submitted this 2 hours after I did and you are on my friends list? NICE!
- badwithcomputer, on 05/24/2008, -29/+44dupe check didn't pick it up- my bad. it's weird because it looks like we both dugg the exact same page. i clicked your submission and it took me to this video where there was a digg badge that links back to this submission...curiouser and curiouser.
- isewise, on 05/24/2008, -3/+29Hmmm I don't believe you
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=j4 ...- badwithcomputer, on 05/25/2008, -7/+4honestly, i submitted that image when i saw it on reddit that day and totally forgot about it ever being on the front of digg. even if i know something has seen daylight before on digg, as long as it's not EXTREMELY recent, i don't feel bad about re-submitting it as long as i'm seeing it again in a new place like a blog or a forum. personally speaking i enjoy seeing stuff a second time around because my attention span is so short and my memory is shot to hell. also, i understand that a lot of diggers arent on the site every day and miss a lot of great content and that doesnt mean it should NEVER be submitted again. that said, i understand why it's important to keep the front page full of fresh content for embarrassingly addicted users like myself.
in this particular case, deathwish and i weren't mutual friends so i couldn't see his submissions. dupe check didn't pick it up and it oddly enough looks like we both submitted the same page through some glitch in break. i don't see what the huge deal is and hope we can all move on with our lives. i try to be a good digg user treat others the way i would want to be treated- that definitely includes not having my submissions yanked out from under me in the early stages of upcoming. now let's hug it out and move on with our e-lives. just added deathwish as a friend so maybe now this won't happen again.

- isewise, on 05/24/2008, -3/+29Hmmm I don't believe you
- DeathWish808, on 05/24/2008, -5/+22Yeah, that's because once a video makes homepage then it's connected to the original video from the poster. Basically, when you click on the original posted video from the posters page it is forwarded to the homepaged video. It's cool. Take it easy!
- b4db0y, on 05/24/2008, -11/+50Who the ***** cares?

- Toffeeapple, on 05/24/2008, -3/+25I care, when people argue it makes me cry, real tears.

- Archer007, on 05/24/2008, -0/+6Can you digg a digg?
- Dantemustdie94, on 05/25/2008, -7/+0Just wondering why you care to get something on the front page so much you're will to complain about someone stealing your diggs.
- Petrarch1603, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1you know, it doesn't seem like that often that the first comment has exactly one digg. its like the universe is in balance
- FatherG, on 05/25/2008, -3/+1That's why you only put people on your friends list that are, ya know, friends? Anytime I get a request I check what they've done on digg. If they added a couple HUNDRED friends in a short time then I ignore their ass. Time you should do the same?

- smpx, on 05/24/2008, -4/+19Your mom's a huge IED. jk!
Seriously though, that video is nuts. Looks like CGI - J3EBS, on 05/24/2008, -2/+42That's not a huge IED, that's a small atom bomb.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/24/2008, -0/+25Aw crap I didn't notice the video has some sort of crap soundtrack on it (I posted it when I was at work last night). Hit mute before viewing.
- amphoterous, on 05/24/2008, -1/+104What the hell is that music... I thought my speakers were broken for a second.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/24/2008, -1/+12Yeah sorry about that. I did a quick search on youtube last night and the first result was the video I was looking for, unfortunately I was at my work pc (which doesn't have sound) when I posted it and didn't know the submitter added some sort of ***** soundtrack on it until now. The original video has no sound, which should be typical of a surveillance camera.
- roket21, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5It sounds like Nellyville by Nelly on the radio with a helicopter hovering above.

- WolverineBlue, on 05/24/2008, -1/+48Yeah, if that guy got hit by that, he might've had to sit down and take a breather.
- BoonTobias, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3boooo, he was using juggernaut
- JasonCox, on 05/24/2008, -8/+2Dugg down for the annoying music.
- MasterGrief, on 05/24/2008, -0/+7Holy lord! Whaddya suppose was at the heart of this particular improvisation? An actual aircraft bomb?
- shaelen, on 05/24/2008, -2/+7I believe the first part of your comment is correct regarding this initial digg post.. "That's no IED." How come nobody has noticed the red flare at the bottom right corner of the video a fraction of a second before the explosion happens? Play it back a few times, you'll see it.
It looks more like he was shot at by the vehicle with the camera than an IED explosion. Why would the vehicle roll right up to him instead of going around?- Jan33, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2noticed it, i think thats just the convoys way of saying "please back off when we come through". He was standing a bit too close for comfort.
- ndesantis, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3did anyone else see him raise his left arm right when the truck was driving by. He was standing there suspiciously and it looks as if he knew it was coming
- shaelen, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Maybe he was wondering why the vehicle was rolling right at him.. maybe he was going to wave or put up a "stop" hand signal? There are too many variables going on here to conclude it was an IED.
- worldchanger, on 05/24/2008, -0/+6"that's not a knife... THAT'S a knife."
- unleashedlive, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2"that's not a knife... THIS IS a knife!"

- txtphile, on 05/24/2008, -8/+3I think that was Saddam's WMD.
But seriously, that's like a 500 pound bomb. We dropped a ***** of those in residential neighborhoods and we're just shocked, shocked that civilians died.

- xrisnothing, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5I don't know why everyone is digging you down. It's fairly obvious that he set it off himself and he killed 0 people and caused no damage to anything other than deafening himself.
- luke16, on 05/24/2008, -3/+39Terminator lives!

- Snokage, on 05/24/2008, -16/+3lol @ him stuggling to stand up after that *****. my head would be ringing so ***** loud.
- mrgreenjeans, on 05/24/2008, -1/+9I wonder...would you have eardrums after that? Could you hear ringing with no eardrums?
- Snokage, on 05/24/2008, -0/+9being the victim of a ruptured ear drum, the answer to that is no.
- Evolutuon, on 05/24/2008, -0/+4Hes probably so used to IEDs going off that he has already lost his eardrums.
- rotorius.kool, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5lol?
He had to experience an explosion that nearly killed him. That's not funny. - DlGG, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1That's just sooo funny.
/sarcasm
- mrgreenjeans, on 05/24/2008, -1/+9I wonder...would you have eardrums after that? Could you hear ringing with no eardrums?
- unconfirmed, on 05/24/2008, -10/+186It looks like it's him that sets it off when he raises his arm.
If he wanted to kill himself you'd think he'd stand a bit closer. If he didn't want to kill himself you'd think he'd stand out of the blast radius. Silly Billy.- BillMoocho, on 05/24/2008, -2/+7It looked like he was close enough to be killed by that blast.
- Kinnkster, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2No ***** sherlock. Thats the whole point of the article.

- peticsu, on 05/24/2008, -11/+5dont you think the soldiers checked him after the blast?
I feel sorry for anyone who cant think outside of the length of the video...- ElGanyan, on 05/24/2008, -4/+11And who exactly are you arguing with/replying to? I feel sorry for anyone looking to insult or attack what isn't there...
- isunktheship, on 05/24/2008, -6/+1ElGanyan, more like ElGroucho kek
- FatLoser, on 05/24/2008, -1/+5Didn't sound like they were too concerned... he walked right away before the bradley showed up, and none of those guys seemed to notice or be aware.
- ortucis, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3I have to agree with Ganyan, who are you talking about exactly?
- 0ceanic, on 05/24/2008, -0/+4i would assume one of the priorities would be to check that guy out or kill him, maybe he had unexploded munitions on him, or hes innocent and hes wounded, or hes a terrorist and he should be identified. if some guy just tried to kill me and failed, i would want him dealt with asap before rescuers made themselvs vulnerable.
- ElGanyan, on 05/24/2008, -4/+11And who exactly are you arguing with/replying to? I feel sorry for anyone looking to insult or attack what isn't there...
- dabura, on 05/24/2008, -14/+8Why the ***** would he set off the bomb when he's 2 feets away? I mean, Islamic are known for being extreme, but not retarded. I feel bad for the guy when he trying to walk away from the blast. Sorry for not having conspiracy CIA-trained like yours, but sir, that's a dumb inhumane way of describing some one who were just inches away from death.
- Bazillions, on 05/24/2008, -3/+17Umm Yeahh. What kind of bizarro world do you people live in where Islamic people kill themselves while trying to kill others?
This guy was just waitin for the ***** bus. In the middle of the street. With very large heavily armed vehicles approaching. - Mothrog, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5Yeah. Muslims have never ever been known to strap on a bomb and blow themselves apart. Wherever did this guy get such a crazy idea?
- TokenWhiteGuy, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2I blame the Internet.
- Bazillions, on 05/24/2008, -3/+17Umm Yeahh. What kind of bizarro world do you people live in where Islamic people kill themselves while trying to kill others?
- WolverineBlue, on 05/24/2008, -4/+12Oh god, the terrorists are using emo-kids as 'attempted suicide but really just a cry for help'-bombers.
- Breticus07, on 05/24/2008, -11/+2I dugg you down for using the words "Silly Billy" lol
- KennMac, on 05/25/2008, -2/+2I dugg you down for saying "lol" unnecessarily.
- Breticus07, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1its what you put when you "laugh out loud" so unless I didn't laugh after that then it was necessary.
- KennMac, on 05/25/2008, -2/+2I dugg you down for saying "lol" unnecessarily.
- Thor, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3The explosion started under the right wheel of the vehicle. He was probably waving to the soldiers.
- Rammy912, on 05/25/2008, -1/+2so obviously it wasn't him that did it smartass.
- BillMoocho, on 05/24/2008, -2/+7It looked like he was close enough to be killed by that blast.
- chompysweat, on 05/24/2008, -4/+160If you listen closely you can hear the army guys talking about picking up chicks in Iraq before the explosion.
- ligyron, on 05/24/2008, -0/+55If you you listen closely? That conversation was the only thing holding my attention while I waited for the explosion I was promised

that being said, sounds like a normal conversation for back here at home >.- Kinnkster, on 05/25/2008, -3/+3Really? I never talk about Iraqi girls myself.
- mllawso, on 05/24/2008, -2/+27"I was lookin’ for bitches but they had that carpet ***** all over them and I couldn’t see what they look like. - TheGooseyOne, on 05/24/2008, -0/+6that conversation was actually the high point of the video. and no listening closely needed
- ligyron, on 05/24/2008, -0/+55If you you listen closely? That conversation was the only thing holding my attention while I waited for the explosion I was promised
- ultraJesus, on 05/24/2008, -3/+110And then he dies the next day from massive internal injuries.
- BevansDesign, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Jeez, yea. Probably. I'm sure he seemed fine until he got home and realized that every organ in his body had been shaken to pieces.
- fugazied, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Yeah I was just thinking that... 3 meter proximity with an explosion of that size would at least have 10-50 shrapnel wounds on him (cuts and ebrasions) but the internal damage from the shockwave would have pulverised his organs.
- Tennouheika, on 05/24/2008, -0/+7My first cat was completely run over one time when I was little. Despite being crushed by the car, the cat ran into the bushes. We found her and she was still alive but died in the next few minutes.
That is probably what happened to this dude. He's in some sort of shock or something but he's probably doomed. - davemak, on 05/25/2008, -0/+7Fire up that arc reactor before the shrapnel gets into his heart!
- atarijedi, on 05/24/2008, -10/+5I'm ok, I'm ok, My bad!
- ChunkyGork, on 05/24/2008, -1/+20What set off the bomb? The guy? The vehicle?
- indoracer, on 05/24/2008, -5/+34The guy raises his arm right before the blast. It's probably him.
- afterlife23, on 05/24/2008, -10/+1why the ***** would he blow himself up if he could have easily hid behind something, you dont go to heaven if its a suicide
- D14BL0, on 05/24/2008, -5/+4No, just 72 virgins.
- sw33tsarin, on 05/24/2008, -2/+7No but you do if you're a martyr.
- adventflux, on 05/24/2008, -1/+6He has a point. Terrorists have no tendency whatsoever of strapping bombs on themselves or hijacking planes.
- afterlife23, on 05/24/2008, -1/+1all im saying is if he didnt have to kil himself why would he
- Thor, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3Its actually 72 Virginians.
- afterlife23, on 05/24/2008, -10/+1why the ***** would he blow himself up if he could have easily hid behind something, you dont go to heaven if its a suicide
- cerealjynx, on 05/24/2008, -2/+5We get signal
- sykotik, on 05/24/2008, -0/+6The people that set them off hide a little way off, then detonate by remote. You can find their propaganda videos all over liveleak.com - they sit and watch then detonate as the unassuming soliders get close to it.
They usually get smoked out and wasted right afterwards too. There are certainly videos of that happening on liveleak as well. - swrostmore, on 05/24/2008, -1/+6Haji usually sets them off with cell phones or garage door openers. He's probably hiding in a nearby building waiting for the convoy to pass by. The soldiers getting out of the APC are probably going to do a house-to-house to try and find him.
- DarkDx, on 05/25/2008, -1/+2That APC looks bad ass.
- mgagne, on 05/24/2008, -0/+9It's probably someone next to the camera, look at the bottom right of the video when it explodes.
- shaelen, on 05/24/2008, -2/+10It looks to me like the vehicle with the camera shot at him.. what else explains the red flash at the lower right corner of the video a fraction of a second before the explosion?
Also, why would the truck roll right up to him instead of going around like the other trucks in front?- MortalynFlux, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2Yup, there's a purplish looking flash on the bottom right of the video right before the blast. They either missed or were trying to give him a good scare. He kinda creeped me out standing like that in the middle of the street, so I don't really blame them.
- bweltondav, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3You don't blame them? You mean to say that standing in/by a public road is a crime with being killed over? I hope to god you're not a police officer.
- MortalynFlux, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1I need to see your driver's license and insurance, sir. It appears you have a broken taillight. What? No broken taillight? Oh, ooops, you do now! Step out of the car, please.
- ckedge, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2There's no way in they shot at him and we don't hear the gunshot on the video. What it probably is is the initial super bright flash from the explosion. The super brightness of the very first moment of explosions often do strange things to cameras, overload their sensors for a fraction of a second, etc.
Anyone have a link to the full video? It'd be interesting to see if they figured it out before they left the area, and detained him. Also be nice to know if everyone in the vehicle was okay.
I'm guessing that this was an explosively formed projectile, and the guy was there to *precisely* time when itshould go off. EFPs are thin jets of molten copper, and if you want to kill someone you need to aim carefully. Otherwise all it might do is disable the vehicle. So I'm guessing that's why he's needed. Only an EFP would penetrate a MRAP like that - hence the Bradley guys coming to check them out. I hope it "missed" and they're okay.
The MRAPs are earning their weight in gold. Shame they weren't bought years earlier.- shaelen, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1You, my friend, need help.
- MortalynFlux, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2Yup, there's a purplish looking flash on the bottom right of the video right before the blast. They either missed or were trying to give him a good scare. He kinda creeped me out standing like that in the middle of the street, so I don't really blame them.

There... feel the urge to bury this stupid question? - mal1964, on 05/24/2008, -4/+15Basic low self esteem responses
When we feel bad, we try to make ourselves feel better by blaming anything and everything around us, but that can often just make us feel worse. The worse we feel the more we feel a need to attack something, anything just to unload these negative feelings. The problem is, however, that this does not really offer a long term solution even if it provides immediate relief. You need, instead, to look at what you can do to change how you perceive things in the first place. This means finding a more positive way of viewing yourself and your situation.

- tommyredcoat, on 05/24/2008, -2/+16Who the hell blows a bomb up with one of their fellow countrymen standing right in the path? Messed up world we live in.
- mark076h, on 05/24/2008, -5/+7most IED's in Iraq these days are pressure activated
- tommyredcoat, on 05/24/2008, -0/+11I am not so sure that was pressure activated. That looked like an attempt at an explosively formed penetrator, which isn't a great candidate for pressure activation. It was probably a cable or line of site IR activated IED buried in that previous bomb crater in the curb.
Pressure activated weapons are typically buried under the roads surface, ie anti-tank mines or a stack of Chinese 155mm howitzer rounds tied to a pressure plate. Plus two armored vehicles rumbled over that same patch of turf right before that vehicle .
Anyway, just my two cents as a fellow Internet EOD/IED/Insurgent tactics expert.
Either way... Who puts a pressure activated weapon on a road traveled by their fellow countrymen? All it would take is a dump truck driving by with a load of concrete to set the thing off.- mark076h, on 05/24/2008, -1/+5you would be surprised how good these guy are at planting IED's the IED could have been planted days before, then somebody on the lookout hooked up the pressure switch just moments before the convoy came through
- tommyredcoat, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3I am not surprised actually. The proof is in our casualty numbers. They are good. They do a very good job of killing and maiming our troops and civilians.
And pressure activated weapons are a very viable weapon and they are used alot. No doubt about that. It's just that when you plant a pressure activated weapon its typically done with the "fire and forget" mentality, which is plant the damn thing and then don't involve yourself in its operation after that.
With the conical blast shape from that bomb, they are obviously trying to aim the thing directly at a vehicle and if I am an insurgent I am just going to manually activate it for the greatest accuracy.
Enough comparing ePeens. It was nice sharing points. I just feel glad that I am not going to be IED'd driving from this coffee shop back to my house. Thank goodness for Memorial Day and what it means for myself as a U.S. citizen.
- lbdinh, on 05/25/2008, -1/+1If it was pressure activated, it would be called a land mine, not an IED.
- mark076h, on 05/25/2008, -1/+1no it would not have land mines are different than pressure activated IED's which use a home crafted pressure plate to detonate, you don't know what you are talking about.

- kappuru, on 05/24/2008, -2/+4Like the poster above me said, most IEDs are pressure activated, so a small personal vehicle wouldn't activate them, but a HMMV or APC would.
They used to mostly be mobile activated but a lot of vehicles have GSM jammers now.- lbdinh, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1That would be called an anti-tank land mine. Anti-personnel mines would detonate when people step over it. Most IEDs are radio/cell phone activated or hardwired to a switch and the wires are buried in sand/underground. Now if that land mine was modified by your local bomb-maker to be detonated, then it would be called an IED.
I used to be part of a security team for Navy EOD guys and I got thoroughly briefed on this.
- lbdinh, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1That would be called an anti-tank land mine. Anti-personnel mines would detonate when people step over it. - leahcim, on 05/24/2008, -2/+3Not to mention most IEDs target Iraqi civilians.
- lbdinh, on 05/25/2008, -1/+1Most IEDs are targeted against US troops. Terrorists don't really care which civilians are in the vicinity when they blow it up. They just consider them involuntary martyrs. US considers them collateral damage.
- DigDugDigger, on 05/24/2008, -2/+7Possible it was foreign fighters. They don't give a ***** about Iraqis and are happy to kill anyone as long as they get their infidel. If it was unable to kill a unprotected man standing just feet from it, it appears they failed... miserably.

- Muraka, on 05/24/2008, -7/+1I always wonder why they can't make explosives look this this in videogames.
If they can make extremely realistic physics engines, how are explosions so hard?- D14BL0, on 05/24/2008, -0/+4Because ten minutes of firey hell is a lot cooler than a single blast.
- MasterGrief, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Physics engines generally work on large objects, things ranging in size from a baseball to a beach ball. There are exceptions, of course, like Half Life 2 Episode 2 had physics working on whole trestle bridges, but mostly physics engines manipulate things you could actually pick up (or at least move) because, well, that's the most common place you'd expect to see movement. Objects such as those are far easier to simulate than blast particles, presumably because blast particles are something like the size and weight of a grain of sand and can therefore move in many more different ways than a simple bottle or rock.

- mark076h, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2for people thinking he dropped dead or took shrapnel , well he could have easily survived alot of IED's in iraq these days are made with home made explosives and they just put them in containers so they don't have alot of shrapnel, for it being on the side of the road like that where the vehicle would not drive over it the IED may have been something else but it is hard to say, it could have been an EFP( explosively formed projectile) once again not sending out alot of shrapnel.
- welliamwallace, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2you could hear the shrapnel raining down on the camera vehicle, 10 times farther away then the guy. There was plenty of shrapnel
