Not even a flood can stop this guy from mowing (pic)
images.onset.freedom.com — No man is an island, but his house can be. Kenny Leitner mows what little grass he has that ’s not under water Monday in the 1300 block of West Main Street in Grafton as the Illinois River rises out of its banks.

- Arkz, on 05/05/2008, -12/+51notice how theres no shadow for the lawnmower? ;)
Adobe®- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -9/+31Indeed. Quite an obvious photoshop. So obvious, in fact, that you've earned the rank of Captain.
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -7/+35so heres a thought for you... lets just estimate that man is 6 foot tall.... yet his shadow is very very short... and the house is very tall (say 40-50 feet) yet its shadow is very short too... now we come to the lawn mower which IS ON THE GROUND and only about 1.5 feet tall.... see where Im going with this??? maybe JUST MAYBE there is a shadow there but its cast on the lower part of the mower itself (round circular cover above blade) so you are having trouble seeing it with your obviously super human eyes and YOU DONT KNOW ***** ABOUT ANYTHING....
I bet if a piece of paper were lying flat on the ground at High noon you would still bitch about it being shopped due to no shadow... so PLEASE shut the ***** up already and realize you should leave the thinking to people capable of such a feat....- tientruong, on 05/05/2008, -3/+19did you even look at the pixels?
- Arkz, on 05/05/2008, -11/+5*sigh* with all your intelligence you'd think you'd see the handle coming off the thing.. and NOT casting a shadow...
- crossmr, on 05/05/2008, -6/+2Anyone who actually mowed in that environment would choke the mower. The grass is probably very wet, as the ground is saturated and its not going to dry out easy. Do you see any clumps of wet grass from mowing? The mower is 1.5 feet but the handle is about 3 feet tall. Hell you can see the shadow where his hand is. Do you see anything attached to it? No. The angle of the shadow doesn't magically change from his hand to the mower handle.
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -2/+10ok Arks... since your such a bad ass expert at disproving the worlds photoshops can you tell me what happens when you take an image and lower its resolution, from multi mega pixal to VGA (actually 672 * 480) and then compress it in JPEG? and compress it SO MUCH that its now only 86 k? so since your so awesome and know everything why dont you open photoshop right now and make an image that size... even use the photo in question and go to save it without reducing the quality slider... 945 k before compression 215 k afte .... so to drop it to even less you know what would have to happen??? loss of detail... like say a set of 3 centimeter wide metal bars shaddow at a exteme angle (same as the house and mans angle) while also being diffused by blades of grass on the ground sticking up or, so much loss in detail you can barely even see the slots on the window coverings... (did ya notice that super sleuth?)
see that vent on the roof? shouldn't that have a casted shadow by your "bulletproof logic" too? or did someone take the time to photoshop that out for absolutely NO REASON
heres an idea get out of you moms basement go grab a stick the same width as the bars at noon and hold it at that angle in a area with long grass, you will find your photoshop skills dont translate to REAL WORLD (TM)
seriously guys think about it... its real.... thats why the photo was taken in the first place. so get over it already.- Arkz, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1even in low res with compression artefacts you'd still be able to see the shadow, the handle isnt that small, also i the water looks photoshoped in too, could be wrong but look at where it meets the grass, LOOK AT THE PIXELS... goodnight Mr superior intelligence, and congratulations on being like every other American with your "mom's basement" comment... alas over here in England wedont have retarded washed up 40 year old punks who still think their rock band can make it and live in mommy and daddy's basement
- Gigs, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5So the photoshopper said "forget the handle shadow, but let me go ahead and add a slight reflection of the top of the mower in the water"??
Dropping the sarcasm: The mower has a reflection. - AngelBunny, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1gaw! now i don't know what to think about this picture.
- BobOki, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2I can tell this is fake from the pixels around the water, and having seen quite a few shops' in my time.

- ichbeineinrcg, on 05/05/2008, -15/+67He's focused on superficial appearances that will do nothing to alleviate the real problem, and he's burning gas while he does it. Definitely a GOP member.
- rjwusa, on 05/05/2008, -40/+6You'd rather see him let his lawn grow out like a liberal womyn's legs and armpits? If that man can afford gas, who are you to begrudge him an attractive lawn? That's the problem with you leftist malcontents. You simply cannot mind your own business.

- smashingmonkey, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3Thanks for burying my comment - you're inept if you think this picture is real. The man's shadow would be more to the right if it were consistent with the shadow of the house. The grass seems to end where the water starts - there would be a color change there. The man's shadow would be more to the right if it were consistent with the shadow of the house. The grass seems to end where the water starts - there would be a color change there. And not to mention: there's a perfect tree line at the other side of this LAKE! Oh, and the sky is completely overcast but the grass seems to be lit by direct sunlight. And then there's the sand under the water... ***** diggtards.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/05/2008, -3/+20What? The house has a very small shadow. It's close to mid-day, and the mower is a very low profile item. How would it show up in the picture?
Also, that probably is quite a bit of sand under the water. That's what happens in a flood.- datagod, on 05/05/2008, -7/+4Maybe....but given the fact that only a complete idiot would mow his lawn in a flood, I still think it is a fake. By the way, does he keep his lawnmower in his house?
- Aslander, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9Ever heard of a garage? Maybe he keeps it there?
- crossmr, on 05/05/2008, -4/+2Look at his shadow though. You can see his hand behind..but there doesn't appear to be anything attached to it.
- Harabeck, on 05/05/2008, -3/+1Its hidden by grass sticking up, look at how the shadow from his body has rough edges.
- datagod, on 05/05/2008, -7/+4Maybe....but given the fact that only a complete idiot would mow his lawn in a flood, I still think it is a fake. By the way, does he keep his lawnmower in his house?
- Rusched, on 05/05/2008, -5/+5Oh yeah, because unless something has a 4 foot long shadow, it's probably photoshopped. I know you're only kidding (right?), but still I'm sure there are people on here agreeing with you wholeheartedly sans the sarcasm.
- wutimatang, on 05/05/2008, -3/+4It seems like the sky is pretty overcast and during overcast days there is a lack of any sort of directional sun light which can contribute to the lack of any sort of prominent shadows.
- Harabeck, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Why do you say its overcast? The color of the sky is just washed out.
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -14/+7so heres a thought for you... lets just estimate that man is 6 foot tall.... yet his shadow is very very short... and the house is very tall (say 40-50 feet) yet its shadow is very short too... now we come to the lawn mower which IS ON THE GROUND and only about 1.5 feet tall.... see where Im going with this??? maybe JUST MAYBE there is a shadow there but its cast on the lower part of the mower itself (round circular cover above blade) so you are having trouble seeing it with your obviously super human eyes and YOU DONT KNOW ***** ABOUT ANYTHING....
I bet if a piece of paper were lying flat on the ground at High noon you would still bitch about it being shopped due to no shadow... so PLEASE shut the ***** up already and realize you should leave the thinking to people capable of such a feat....- drummy41, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6haha wow, eeeeeasy there bud.
- DomoDigital, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2yaaaa.....someone takes the comments thread a liiiitle personally..
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -3/+1no Im just tired of people calling shopped all the ***** time like their some kind of expert on ANYTHING let alone photo forensics
seriously its a 68k 640 x480 jpeg made to sit as part of a story... you cant call shopped because pixels zoom in and the bars them self are nothing but jaggies so what can you expect with shadows?
http://www.thetelegraph.com/news/feet_13535___arti ... - IllBeBack, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2I am fully capable of thinking for myself, and to me, the angle of the shadow of the man is at a right angle to where he is standing. How could the shadow of the handles of the lawn mower, which reach to the height of the man's left hand, the shadow of which can clearly be seen, end up unseen? The handle shadow would certainly not fall back on the body of the lawn mower itself; it would also be at a right angle.
You can take your high and mighty insults and shove them up your ass. - recruz, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0where's the shadow of the bars and handle of the lawnmower? there's a shadow of the man's arms, but it just dies off from there
- itsripitsrip, on 05/05/2008, -1/+6um, they could have shopped a house on a hill into a lake.
all of you act like the only way to shop it is to add a lawnmower.
between this, the stupid ass cat shadow, and the woman with the supposedly mis-spelled sign, digg is making me want to shoot myself.- teekay87, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3umm actually i dont think anyone was implying that the lawnmower was the item that was photoshopped... if they did, then they are dumb as *****! because in all seriousness adding a lawnmower to that situation really doesnt make it that much funnier...
- BTraina, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3the reflection of the house in the water looks accurate to me.
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1actually TONS of people are saying that....
- mojoface, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1the Apocalypse is near! Ron Paul 08!
- teekay87, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3umm actually i dont think anyone was implying that the lawnmower was the item that was photoshopped... if they did, then they are dumb as *****! because in all seriousness adding a lawnmower to that situation really doesnt make it that much funnier...
- TheCoreh, on 05/05/2008, -3/+1the reflections are all wrong
- Nickdotnet, on 05/05/2008, -3/+1He's probably right, since adding a shadow in photoshop is impossible...
- ThreeDee912, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Camera exposure is off. And if someone says that you could just edit it in Photoshop or something, that's the whole point.
- yellowfish04, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1I have a lot of experiance with photoshops I can tell by the pixles this is a phtoshop
< /pleasedonttakemeseriously>
- idavidtang, on 05/05/2008, -5/+159He has one of those shadowless lawnmowers.
- desuexmachina, on 05/05/2008, -4/+41That is a remarkably ugly house. Although, I do like how he colour co-ordinated the siding with the flood water.
- Frostek, on 05/05/2008, -5/+1Two thirds of the ground floor is a garage as well... Talk about getting your priorities wrong. Might as well just build one huge garage and live in the corner.
- mousky, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4Is he getting his priorities wrong? Oh, I don't know, but my gut tells me that the house is located in a flood plain, so it would make sense to have as much living space on the second floor.
- MattDell, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3As a car nut, he definitely got his priorities straight!
- scott182, on 05/05/2008, -2/+0Illinois is not really known for its beauty.
- Frostek, on 05/05/2008, -5/+1Two thirds of the ground floor is a garage as well... Talk about getting your priorities wrong. Might as well just build one huge garage and live in the corner.
- mark076h, on 05/05/2008, -4/+4thats a very strange looking house
- chrissku, on 05/05/2008, -10/+5This shot was staged.
- blackmoth, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Yeah, by a vengeful god.
- bigboyman2, on 05/05/2008, -11/+66Reminds me of a story I heard on the radio. There was a flood in a fairly small town while Jeff was visiting. He had to climb a roof to get away from the flood, which happened to be occupied by the homeowners wife. The two just sat there and made small talk while they watched the debris float by. There was a hat floating by that was that had a peculiar rhythm to it. It would go from all the way left of where the yard was supposed to end, and then go all the way to the right. Jeff brought it up to the Wife's attention, and she replied, "Oh, that's just Mike. He had been putting off mowing the lawn for a good coupla' weeks. He finally said yesterday, 'Come hell or high water, I'm mowing that lawn!'."
- 7come11, on 05/05/2008, -5/+24How did you get +27 diggs?? Is this readers digest? Am i 70??

- GrammarNazi3000, on 05/05/2008, -0/+8I so thought there was a sex joke in there.
- isaactwito, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I'm glad some people on digg make jokes that aren't just _bad_ puns or references to nerdy *****.
- 7come11, on 05/05/2008, -5/+24How did you get +27 diggs?? Is this readers digest? Am i 70??
- Punjabdasher, on 05/05/2008, -17/+3I'm not even some 1337 photoshop god like some of you guys out there, but even I can tell that this is shopp3d.
- MetalCharms, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1lies
- wickensworth, on 05/05/2008, -6/+58Are we sure he's actually mowing? Maybe he's just retrieving the mower from where he accidentally left it during the flooding.
- Beevo, on 05/05/2008, -2/+15That was my first thought too. He's dragging it not really pushing it as you would if he were mowing.
- Intamin, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3While that's true, I've pulled my mower a thousand times, and if it isn't an auto-drive type, it's a viable way of getting the job done if you're tired of pushing.
- tandy400, on 05/05/2008, -1/+17And the Buzz Killington award goes to...
- TheArabian, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2thinking the same thing
- hitdrumhard, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Wrong direction, and no bag for clippings on the mower... poor guy gonna look like the earth's worst enemy for trying to keep his mower from getting rusted.
- Beevo, on 05/05/2008, -2/+15That was my first thought too. He's dragging it not really pushing it as you would if he were mowing.
- charm803, on 05/05/2008, -17/+1The photoshop on this is terrible. The angles on the lawnmower and the lack of shadow are wrong, but good try! Funny nonetheless...
- DigitAl56K, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3Not everything out of the ordinary is 'shopped.
Some people must believe that everyone in the world leads thoroughly uneventful lives because the moment someone posts a bizarre photo they rush to cry "PHOTOSHOP!".- alittleroy101, on 05/05/2008, -3/+3Sorry buddy, but this one is shopped.
- Coolmatt49, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1I'm not your buddy, guy.
- Skod, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5I'm not your guy, friend!
- godseyeview, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2I'm not your friend, man
- charm803, on 05/05/2008, -3/+2As the queen of photoshopp, you can just tell. Only gullible people not familiar with photoshop would think this is real. BTW-Santa says what's up...
- alittleroy101, on 05/05/2008, -3/+3Sorry buddy, but this one is shopped.
- Killtacular, on 05/05/2008, -2/+2For the love of god, this is not a photoshop. I've seen this with empirical evidence from my 5 senses that this is real. I live right next to this town. This happens nearly every year.
- charm803, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1No one is saying that the TOWN & FLOOD were photoshopped. Just the lawnmower.
- TheSuperunknown, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3What is it with the internet superheroes who think they can spot photoshops but almost always wind up pinning un-doctored material?
- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -3/+3Im putting this as a reply to all the comments its shopped....

Can I have a four story house too?- SolitarySoviet, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1have you ever done any house painting? I would wager NO since you dont seem to see how high it is from the TIP of the roofs highest point to the ground... just try and paint that with a 8 foot ladder bud.... I know your trying to be funny but ....FAIL
- IllBeBack, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Maybe you could post the exact same comment 3 or 4 more times.

- EpicSelekta, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9Probably Professor Chaos... he already tried this with a hose.
You... you didn't hear about that? - stuffblock, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Damn Cialis
- EpicSelekta, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9Probably Professor Chaos... he already tried this with a hose.
- R75700, on 05/05/2008, -1/+13oh hes not mowing the grass. Hes just chopping up the fish that make their way onto the grass. He's got to eat something since he can't make it to the store
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3I'll guess he's without power, so he probably doesn't have much else to do...
- acroyear2, on 05/05/2008, -4/+3He likes to mow.
- EpicSelekta, on 05/05/2008, -3/+4What will suck is when the floodwaters recede and all the waterlogged grass dies.
- Moose_Head, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2See, proof that water kills plants, it's electrolytes they crave!
- SwedishNinja, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1You can't feed plants with toilet water! Idiot!

- coolmanmax2000, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Not if he has a basement
- superkendall, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1All that water just makes the hated grass grow faster, thus the need for mowing more...
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Standing water tends to drown grass, just FYI.
- KingGorilla, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2If he's mowing his lawn then he's doing to wrong
- DrummerAndrew, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1I.. uh... nevermind.
- andreeee, on 05/05/2008, -2/+9It would appear as if his lawn needs to be mowed regardless of the body of water surrounding his house.
- Killtacular, on 05/05/2008, -3/+2I was thinking that looked like a house in Grafton. I was thinking that was going to happen the last time I drove through Grafton. I live in Golden Eagle which is in a neighboring county to Jersey county. That is so hilarious. I didn't bother to read the captions until I looked at the picture. That cracks me up. Never would I though such a small town of 600 people near my home town would be on Digg. Oh and to SillyRabbits, he still has power. His house is right off the coast of the Illinois river.
- Zenham, on 05/05/2008, -3/+42Let's hope he doesn't overmow as bad as he overwatered.
- Hangly, on 05/05/2008, -5/+3You can't overwet, same as you can't overdry. Once it's wet, it's wet.
- dajernts, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4You can't overwet but you can overwater.
- MrMacMan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Um, how about you test that theory on some of your own plants.
- UnixSkunk, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Well known fact. Overwatering will kill plants...probably quicker than NO water.

- Hangly, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4Agreed. No one mows one handed and backwards.
- tandy400, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1It's really unfortunate you were born with such a lack of imagination and sense of humor.
- TheCheckist, on 05/05/2008, -4/+10Why is everyone assuming he's mowing the grass? What an idiotic idea. He's simply moving the mower away from the water.
- damnitdaniel, on 05/05/2008, -2/+8Jesus. It's a joke. I'm sure we're all aware that the last thing on this guys mind is mowing the grass.
