Some guy confronts two Hollywood cops parked illegally watch!
liveleak.com — Some guy confronts a couple of cops on their parking habits....he thinks they have parked illegally. You couldn't make this stuff up.

- MrLazySmurf, on 12/18/2007, -584/+13Had no sound. But if the camerman was confronting them about them being 6 inches in the red zone then he needs to get his ass kicked.
- freyaXgefn, on 12/18/2007, -1/+208there was sound for the entire video. quite funny actually. the cameraman was confronting the police for illegally parking against the flow of traffic on the wrong side of the street. any other citizen would be fined for the incident. you should pay more attention to the information that you consume.
- diggingaround, on 12/18/2007, -23/+3Let's see... if they get a ticket - we (tax payers) pay for it?
- G-RaZoR, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2No, the officer pays for it. The police won't pay the ticket. The police didn't park illegally, the officer did.
- nosferatu, on 12/19/2007, -3/+3 the cop pays the ticket out of his salary
we pay this salary with our taxes
ergo
we pay the ticket. - maabus, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Just because taxes pay his salary doesn't mean we pay his ticket...when he pays a ticket, HE loses the money that he could have otherwise spent on clothes, food, etc.
I work for a public University, but it doesn't mean the public pays my tickets. When I have to pay a ticket it sucks for me, not the public.
Ergo, you don't know how to use ergo.

- garbanzo, on 12/18/2007, -2/+140Parking opposite to the flow of traffic is kind of a big deal. A meter maid would pee their trousers with excitement if they caught you doing it. I think these two cops could use a days suspension to read the DMV handbook.
- xkorbin, on 12/18/2007, -8/+3Dugg for "pee their trousers"
- DocHoliday22, on 12/18/2007, -1/+64Making the first comment, not having all the correct information, then making a wrong comment - not the smartest of moves was it MrLazySmurf?

- Cupantae, on 12/18/2007, -0/+73Maybe your speakers aren't turned on
- SinisterBunni, on 12/18/2007, -3/+17Yes, left is generally lower volume or off and right is generally higher volume. try that next time before you insert your foolishness here.
- richthomas, on 12/18/2007, -8/+7oh my you're a dumbarse! firstly turn your speakers on or learn how to use a computer. second the car was parked on the wrong side of the road. i live in australia and drive on the LHS and i still picked that up.
- harajukukei, on 12/18/2007, -3/+9lol are you from UK??? in America we drive on the right side of the road.
- m0tbaillie, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1He just said he was from Australia. There are several countries (UK, Australia, India, Singapore, etc.) that drive on the right-hand side of the road, too.
- diggingaround, on 12/18/2007, -9/+7There is a POWER button on your speakers ... push it.
- wibambau, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Thank you for living up to your name, sir.
- MrLazySmurf, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Jeez.. I should've watched this at home with sound. I was at work.. Never thought i'd get so many negatives. But at least i have a record for something.

- tj501, on 12/18/2007, -2/+476It has sound. He confronted them because they parked the WRONG way on the street. The red zone had nothing to do with it. It was a non emergency. They were getting lunch.
- garbanzo, on 12/18/2007, -3/+135The red zone was just the icing on the gravy.

- petercooper, on 12/18/2007, -15/+12Is parking against the flow of traffic actually illegal / against driving regulations in the US? Or just in California? I've not heard of it being illegal anywhere else I've driven, mostly Europe though, but I've driven in CA for several months ignorant of this law, I'll admit.
- TGMD, on 12/18/2007, -2/+11Most things depend on state, the federal government doesn't involve itself in stuff like that
- guntario, on 12/18/2007, -9/+26Yet...
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/18/2007, -7/+5Actually, it does seem a bit silly that you'd have to familiarize yourself with 20 sets of driving laws when traveling cross country.
- Tilon, on 12/18/2007, -7/+9Yes, so let's just put a Federal framework in place that will standardize everything. Surely this will result in the best for everyone in every state!
- Otto, on 12/18/2007, -1/+15The driving laws are basically the same everywhere, except for minor things like what the speed limits are in specific zones. Differences like that are always posted.
Now, parking laws vary wildly from city to city, not just state to state. However, it's almost always illegal to park against the flow of traffic in all sets of city ordinances that I know of. - skankyBacon, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3@Tilon
It's not like standards are inherently bad. In fact, for the most part, the way traffic works seems like a prime candidate for something to be standardized. I know I wouldn't want people from other states driving recklessly in my state because they are used to different rules, and I wouldn't want to be fined because I did something that was normal in my state but against the law somewhere else.
- DarkNemesis618, on 12/18/2007, -0/+14In Philiadelphia comes with like a $50 ticket...and the parking authority is everywhere and incredibly strict
- louiedog, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5I worked for a nonprofit in Philly refurbishing computers. While unloading some computers, we had our van double parked on a street that probably only saw about 5 cars an hour. We were there for less than five minutes and the parking authority ticketed us. I wouldn't have thought it was a big deal if the parking authority people didn't double park there once a week, every week, for the two years I worked there.
- garbanzo, on 12/18/2007, -0/+72Yes, it's illegal to park against the flow of traffic in California. Just look at what happens when the cops try to leave, that's why.
- gotlogic, on 12/18/2007, -12/+5The only reason they left like that is because that guy was filming, had he not been there they would have flashed the lights and cut across or flipped a U. Gotta give them a little credit. As for the guy filming he sounds like an idiot, I'd like to see evidence all the "cops hes put in jail", sounds like a blathering moron and honestly doesn't deserve the diggs.
- mediaphile, on 12/18/2007, -1/+12Yeah, because using the lights on a police vehicle in a non-emergency situation to cut across traffic after you pick up a sandwich from the deli is perfectly cool too. Face it, the cops did it because they're not going to get a ticket for doing so. I don't care who the guy doing the video is or how smart he is, this is still a blatant misuse of authority. Cops are not above the law. What exactly do I have to give them credit for? You name implies you're a logical guy, but I fail to see any evidence of that.
- gotlogic, on 12/18/2007, -12/+5The only reason they left like that is because that guy was filming, had he not been there they would have flashed the lights and cut across or flipped a U. - buckrogers1965, on 12/18/2007, -5/+37It is illegal to park the wrong way on a one way street everyplace in the world, because you had to have driven against the flow of traffic to get in there, and you will kill someone trying to pull out and get back into the flow of traffic. Watch as the cops try to pull out in the video, they are driving the wrong way down the street for about 75 feet.
- cawpin, on 12/18/2007, -13/+6It doesn't have anything to do with a one-way street, which they were NOT on. It is illegal to park against the flow of traffic in all, as far as I know, states in the US.
- Otto, on 12/18/2007, -4/+4State law does not concern itself with parking regulations. That's nearly always the domain of the individual cities.
- NSMike, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3@Otto
It's still illegal to DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, which they would have to do to park like that.
- cawpin, on 12/18/2007, -13/+6It doesn't have anything to do with a one-way street, which they were NOT on. It is illegal to park against the flow of traffic in all, as far as I know, states in the US.

- ICSU, on 12/18/2007, -0/+15"I've not heard of it being illegal anywhere else I've driven, mostly Europe though"
Even if parking wasn't illegal per se, you can't do it without driving against the flow, which is illegal so..- joeydoo, on 12/18/2007, -4/+5Nah.. here in the UK it doesn't matter which side of the road you park on... unless,as has been said, it's a one way street.
With a road as busy and wide as the one in the video, you probably wouldn't be allowed to park on it anyway.
On normal roads with parking, if you see a space on the other side.. you can park there.. I do it all the time. When you leave the space you just have cross the lane.. but you have to cross on coming traffic all the time when you drive.
- joeydoo, on 12/18/2007, -4/+5Nah.. here in the UK it doesn't matter which side of the road you park on... unless,as has been said, it's a one way street.
- BenKenobi88, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1It varies city by city. On a two-way street, if you park the opposite direction of the lane you're nearest...sometimes it's legal, sometimes it's not. It almost never matters in residential areas.
- DarkRabbit, on 12/18/2007, -4/+1Well it's certainly illegal in Ireland. And SHOULD be illegal everywhere.
- BenKenobi88, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1There's residential streets, like by my house, where there's cars parked on both sides of the street, and really only room for one car to get through at a time. So why would it matter which way cars park? They can go either way, and there's really only one lane that can go either way.
- bmunichman, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1My dad got a ticket for parking like this once, and the citation was "Parking more than 18 inches from the curb"
- Jethris, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I got the same parking ticket in Denver, CO. The ticket was: Right tire more than 12 inches from right curb. It took a few minutes to figure that one out, and it was in a residential neighborhood.

- MiDri, on 12/18/2007, -0/+60You don't get to enforce the rules, if you don't play by the rules as well. Hypocrites...
- joebaloney, on 12/18/2007, -1/+25Try being a citizen who trives through a "town" on a highway where the speed limit mysteriously drops by 30mph and get pulled over by a cop for doing 41 in a 35 and getting a ticket for 100 bucks and having your car insurance go up on you.
Now tell me, does the citizen deserve that punishment for his egregious crime of doing 41 in a 35 on a highway?- zedzedtop, on 12/18/2007, -33/+5Obviously you felt that the speed limit was too low for that zone, and you demonstrated that by breaking the law. Unfortunately you were caught and had to deal with the consequences. Sounds to me like your issues lie with the lawmakers and insurance companies, not the police.
- Tilon, on 12/18/2007, -9/+20We have an authoritarian ***** here, folks. Step back.
- joeydoo, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8That's the kind of 'rule following' that rebuilt Germany in the late 1930's.....

- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/18/2007, -0/+24You call driving the wrong way in the parking shoulder "classy"?

Welcome to America, where being a police officer is a CHOICE. If it sucked and paid ***** than people wouldn't do it. Even the government has to remain competitive on jobs or they won't be filled.
Nice try though, I feel no remorse for people choosing a career path. Personal responsibility and all that. - solistus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6"Remained classy?" He wouldn't answer questions, wouldn't state his name, objected when the guy mentioned a documentary and basically blew him off entirely, despite clearly being in the wrong. What, the standard now is that cops can break the law with impunity and it's cool so long as they don't shoot you for pointing it out? Because being a cop is hard? I wish I could park illegally to run in for a coffee while I was on the clock at MY job. I'd get my ass fired.
- sporg, on 12/18/2007, -1/+33Parking against the flow of traffic on any street is illegal in almost all states for good reason.
- Acolyte357, on 12/18/2007, -9/+3Was the Reply button broke for you or....?
- lowerlogic, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2looks like your train of thought just crashed mid-sentence.
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/18/2007, -23/+2Cops and fire fighters park illegally all the time. Usually it makes for a faster get away if there's an emergency while they're grabbing food
- VPurpmalkV, on 12/18/2007, -0/+20Unfortunately I don't that applies in this situation. If there was an emergency they had to leave quickly for: A) they would have spilled their drinks and lunch all over that they illegally parked to get. B) They would have had to rush out against the flow of traffic to respond to said emergency, most likely causing another emergency that more Ambulances or Police would have to respond to.
- BrewBeau, on 12/18/2007, -1/+18parking against the flow of traffic, though, impedes their fast getaway as shown when they try to leave.
- rarson, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6You've got that backwards. They park like that to so they can grab their food faster without having to be bothered to park correctly. There's obviously no advantage to parking on the wrong side of the street, other than convenience.
- rarson, on 12/18/2007, -3/+16In Detroit, the cops turn on their lights and run red lights, and then turn them back off again. Hell, sometimes they don't even turn on their lights. And it's really dangerous. I know, cops do that just about everywhere, but in Detroit, ALL cops do it ALL the time. Detroit cops suck.
The sad thing is, I've been given a ticket before for "driving too fast for conditions." Now my entire problem with speed limits is that it assumes every driver in every car in every situation has the exact same driving ability, which is clearly not true when you watch other drivers on the road. These cops, who often can't even be bothered to follow or even know the law, are deciding how good of a driver I am? That's ridiculous. I guarantee I'm a better driver than most cops. They get into accidents all the time (and it's no wonder).- cmwotring, on 12/18/2007, -12/+5A too fast for conditions ticket is to get your dumb ass to slow down when clearly everyone else has reduced their speed because it may be raining or snowing. It doesn't matter how good of a driver you are. You are not the only person on the road. There will be one day when your "superior" driving luck will catch up to you and your car ends up in the divider on I-94 downtown. Hopefully you won't hurt yourself or anyone else. Drive on
- foned, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12you just assume he was wrong. maybe he was going 5 under the speed limit when it started trickling, and maybe some over zealous cop saw a bumper sticker he didnt like..don't judge a person too quickly just because a cop said he was guilty.
- rarson, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1My dumb ass pays a lot more attention to the road, my car, the conditions, and the other cars around me a lot more than most other drivers that I see. I know this because I pay attention to them and I see them doing a lot of stupid *****.
Like driving 30 in a 70 in the left lane because of a little bit of snow. I don't have any problem with people driving slowly in bad weather, I usually do if the weather is bad enough, but if you're going to be driving 30 in a 70, you need to be in the right ***** lane (scratch that, you need to be in the right lane regardless, because the left lane is the passing lane... another concept drivers fail to understand).
Also, you must not have ever used snow tires, because they get a lot of traction in the snow, and even on ice. Most people don't even use snow tires. My car is definitely more capable with snow tires on it than most cars without. You still haven't given me a reason why I should be penalized by going slower when both my car and my driving ability are better equipped to handle a faster speed, especially when there is zero traffic on the road.
As for the ticket, it was given to me by a wonderful South Carolina cop who, like all cops in the area, hated Navy people and saw the sticker on my car. He also gave me an "improper lane change" ticket, despite the fact that I did use my blinker (I always do, but the cop told me I didn't). He gave me these two tickets because he saw my sticker and thought I was speeding but didn't have a shred of proof. So the cop didn't even know if he was right or wrong, he just decided to use a catch-all to ***** me over.
- koick, on 12/18/2007, -0/+9Detroit? Dude, you need to get outta there.
- rarson, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1I don't live there, but I have a friend that lives relatively close, so go to clubs in Detroit pretty often.
- Jethris, on 12/18/2007, -1/+0It is possible for them to get a call and run hot (lights/sirens), get through the intersection and another car calls in as being closer. But not as much as not wanting to sit at the red light.
- Ozymandias42, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4It is more possible that they are on a call but are proceeding at a good enough speed in light enough traffic to not require lights and sirens. Sirens annoy people, especially people who live near police stations. If you're in a hurry but not in THAT much of a hurry, it's completely understandable that you'd only turn the siren on when you needed to get through a red light.
- rarson, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Detroit cops don't really hurry to get anywhere. I always see at least 4 of them parked in the middle of the street for some reason, or just sitting around somewhere. One time, when we were coming back from the Magic Stick, the street we were parked on had every car's window busted out (including a friend's car). They ended up calling the cops and waiting around for about an hour for nothing.
Not to mention, like I said, these cops do it all the time. They're not doing it to take a call. Sometimes they don't even bother to turn their lights on.
***** Detroit cops.
- cmwotring, on 12/18/2007, -12/+5A too fast for conditions ticket is to get your dumb ass to slow down when clearly everyone else has reduced their speed because it may be raining or snowing. - Hickeroar, on 12/18/2007, -7/+2And any citizen parked the same way would have been ignored by the cops. This guy is just an idiot with too much free time on his hands and an annoying voice.

But yea, I kind of wish he would have gotten tasered too, he seemed to think he was safe but hes just lucky he didn't do that to some cops that are real assholes. He probably would have learned a thing or two.
- vtron, on 12/18/2007, -1/+30Learned a thing or two? Cops are public servants, They uphold the law and are not above it. He should have called the cops out. If that was not a patrol car he would have gotten fined.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/18/2007, -4/+10Cops are "not above the law"? What dreamy suburbia do you live in?
- foned, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7I think what he meant was, they are not supposed to be above the law, although obviously this video clearly shows they are, or they think they are... you decide.
- akphidelt, on 12/18/2007, -9/+1Yep, 1 video of 2 cops parked on the wrong side out of millions across the country prove that cops are above the law. You guys are idiots. You're probably one of those that bitch about cops but then cry when a cop doesn't come help you out fast enough.
- PURPLEDRINK, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1So, you think that there has never been an incident where a cop harassed an individual while on duty because of a confrontation, such as this one? Nice.

- Arapho, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1A cop could get an emergency call at any time and needs to respond as quickly as possible, so parking at the nearest location possible is important i means saving them 30 secs to 1 min in response time.

If you don't take action to lets cops know that they are not above the law, then you have very little credibility when you complain about how the break the laws. Cops don't hold other cops accountable. Judges don't hold cops accountable. Politicians don't hold cops accountable. If the people who pay the police (every day tax payers like you and me) don't hold them accountable, then no one is going to.

i'm not too fond of cops, but these guys don't need to be hassled.- Lyph5, on 12/18/2007, -3/+1Unless the fire is very serious, fire fighters are usually supposed to wait until a police officer shows up to the fire to start putting it out.
- Havoc737903, on 12/19/2007, -0/+0As a firefighter, I know that no one has to wait for any cops to be called to put out a fire. That's just dumb logic "oh...fire. Better wait for the cops to show up." Wrong. Wrong. Fail.
By calling 911, or having emergency services called to your residence for a working fire the fire department has full control of the scene. At least here in Montgomery County MD, until the last firefighter leaves the scene, the fire department has control, and needs no warrant to enter the property.
However, if all fire personnel leave the scene, and further investigation is required, the fire marshal would then need a search warrant to enter the property again.
State laws may vary and this is by no means the end all beat all for everywhere. However, in general, most fire companies follow similar Standard Operating Procedures.

- octophobic, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5I doubt that is what exempt on their plate means. Can you link to the info?
- buddyfarr, on 12/18/2007, -0/+10yeah, right....idiot. they cannot park wherever the hell they want unless it is an emergency. a hamburger and a coke is not an emergency.
- Dakart, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Driving the wrong way on the road IS a problem, though...
- TonyLocNE, on 12/18/2007, -1/+2actually the "exemption" is for tax purposes. Their vehicles are "EXEMPT" from the taxes we pay to have our cars licensed.
- Havoc737903, on 12/19/2007, -0/+0Exempt for tax and probably emissions testing as well. Not sure though.
- Lyph5, on 12/18/2007, -3/+1Unless the fire is very serious, fire fighters are usually supposed to wait until a police officer shows up to the fire to start putting it out.
- Frostman3D, on 12/18/2007, -4/+191I wish more people would confront cops when they break the law. The other day I saw a cop floor it on a road by my house, there were kids there, and when he got to where he was going, he got coffee.
- Lyph5, on 12/18/2007, -23/+4Do you know for a fact that he got a coffee or are you just being an *****?
I've been passed while doing 90 by Cops outside Albany, and been passed going the speed limit by cops on smaller roads. No lights no siren. I asked someone I know who is engaged to a local cop why that happens and the answer is that there are some situations where lights and sirens are discouraged (such as residential areas in the late night/early morning) or on some other 'special' calls.
I do know that, in my state (MA), there are laws that say that if they need to break traffic laws to get to a call they have to have lights and sirens going (except, like I said above, in a residential area at night) but when the cops are all responding to a call, who's going to ticket THEM?- octophobic, on 12/18/2007, -0/+18Who would ticket the cops in general? I'm sure it's strongly discouraged to hand out citations to your co-workers.
- Frostman3D, on 12/18/2007, -1/+21Yes, I know he got coffee, because I went to the same place he went. I don't just pull ***** out of my ass to sound like I'm cool.
- samzklub, on 12/18/2007, -13/+1Either way, you'll never be cool. Sorry.
- thelimopit, on 12/18/2007, -12/+5Too much caffeine will kill you, so really he was just doing his job. I bet that latte ended up getting life in coffee prison.
- buddyfarr, on 12/18/2007, -1/+36responding to a call is fine. when they are just trying to get somewhere to meet up and have lunch then NO. I don't know about his story but when I was driving in St. Joseph Michigan I had two cops fly by me with lights on, they got about 1/4 mile down the road, turned off their lights and pulled into Duncan Donuts. and no this is not made up. there are bad cops out there. and they need to be confronted.
- Giovannizero, on 12/18/2007, -3/+16It's possible that they got a call and they started to go and then they got a call that they weren't needed anymore. Then again, it's also possible they were just having fun.
Last time I chased a cop who ran a red light (and then turned his lights off) I found him in a neighborhood with 3-4 other cops armed with shotguns and one with an M-16 looking for a suspect. I don't chase cops anymore :) - samzklub, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12Perhaps their was a crime being committed at the Dunkin' Donuts?

- stretch611, on 12/18/2007, -1/+13Unfortunately, people that stand up against the cops usually end up being harrassed by them. Its a no win situation. Look at this story: http://www.shadowmonkey.net/news/latest/officer-ri ...
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/18/2007, -1/+25It was an emergency. He needed coffee to dunk his donuts into. Have you ever tried to eat stale donuts without coffee?
- gregstrander, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8No lie, last week I had gone through a green light and about 10 seconds after I do, I looked in the rear view mirror, it was yellow and there was a cop flying through with his lights on. As soon as he was through it he turned them off. It was straight out of Superbad. I couldn't believe it.
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/18/2007, -2/+1It generally safer to leave the emergency lights off even if it is an emergency, once the lights do you no good.
- samzklub, on 12/18/2007, -1/+1No lie, dawg! No lie!
- sturdiusmaximus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Seinfeld did it first.
- nunofgs, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1That's easier said than done. Had you confronted them in that situation, what law would you accuse them of breaking? speeding? good luck with that.
- bbqsalad, on 12/18/2007, -0/+9Best thing is to keep a video camera in your car at all times. If you see a cop blatantly breaking the law like that, record it. Take it to the local new agencys and to the police chief and show them. Police the Police.
- randomerratum, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8I watched a couple of cops outside my office talking to a homeless guy, one of the cops kept spitting on the sidewalk outide our window - Speeding, parking, trafic violations... legal grey areas for sure - but spitting? That's just a dick thing to do.
- allanpat, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1like it or not, police vehicles have special plates that allow them to park in red zones, loading zones, backwards, sideways - whatever they want. it doesn't have to be an emergency. when they're on duty, they're allowed to park pretty much whereever they want.
for example, if they parked illegally while responding to a burglary, you're going to tow their car??
there are a lot worse police abuses than this.
- Lyph5, on 12/18/2007, -23/+4Do you know for a fact that he got a coffee or are you just being an *****?
- Lyph5, on 12/18/2007, -22/+3Last time I checked it wasn't against the law to park against the flow of traffic, but if you get hit (even if you're parked) you're at fault. Maybe that's just MA, though.

Seriously, though, that was clearly a squad car and two uniformed police officers. Either they were off duty and filming themselves recklessly using a cop car and misrepresenting themselves as on duty (which has GOT to be illegal), or it's real.

- Dolomite, on 12/18/2007, -14/+9Its a shame the camera man sounded like such a douche, not saying it's right, but everyone takes advantage of things that their jobs allow them to. I am not shocked or appalled by this at all.
- cawpin, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7I'm not shocked or appalled but it doesn't make it right. They guy was right to confront them, they had to endanger others to get out of the situation.

- sugarkang, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1when did he oppose gay marriage? you need to check your facts. he opposed a "ban on gay marriage". i'm pro choice, and i disagree with RP on this issue. however, what he's trying to do is let LOCAL governments handle this issue. think about it. the US is a big country each state wants different things. why is the federal gov't trying to impose one rule for everyone? that's where a lot of this hate comes from... with red and blue states and such. and regarding public schools.. he's just talking about how much money our dept of education wastes. he's not against public schools. he wants these things localized and not handled by the FEDERAL government but rather the LOCAL government.

- Neph, on 12/18/2007, -2/+2I'm kind of torn on this. It's easy to forget, but as a society we owe our cops a debt of gratitude for putting themselves in harm's way on a regular basis. If they break some minor regulations in light or nonexistent traffic for less-than-life-or-death reasons, I'll willing to give them a pass. It'd be nice if they led by example, but meh.
On the other hand, it's the same sort of attitude exhibited in the completely unjustified taserings and beatings that we've all seen in the news, especially lately. This pair seemed fairly laid back, given the circumstances (being accosted by a not entirely friendly dude with a camera), but I suspect that tolerating that kind of behaviour could embolden the kind of cops who taser naked deaf guys. - Hoogs, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Sure, just what we need, give them MORE power...

- AngusMustang, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12Most police departments deal pretty severely with complaints against officers. If you have grounds (other than, "but I -never- speed!") to make a complaint, there is usually an investigation and a letter of warning or reprimand issued to the officer. That stuff will stay with them forever.
Granted, this is the bigger cities I've dealt with... small towns probably don't have as many protections in place against officer abuse.- drastik21, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Yeah like Mike Corona the sheriff from Orange County, CA is being indicted with charges of federal corruption and he still gets a paid leave of absence.

- martoq, on 12/18/2007, -15/+4Believe or not, he was not breaking the law. There are certain laws that actually do not apply to certain manciple groups. Of course this varies from area to area but mainly things like parking, cell phone use and seatbelts do not apply.
- cawpin, on 12/18/2007, -0/+11Believe it or not, you're wrong. He WAS breaking the law because he wasn't dealing with an emergency, or even a police situation. He parked illegally and got called on it. There is no MUNICIPAL group that is above the law.

- RescueJoe, on 12/18/2007, -18/+10What people forget is the fact that cops are told they have to be with in 50 yards (or some close easy to sprint distance) of their cars at all times. This way if the cop gets an emergency call they can get to their car fast and get to the emergency fast. If you are in an emergency do want the cop to have to run and run and run to find his/her squad car then drive to you and then help you... or would you rather that cop being parked close to his car and only have to sprint a short distance then drive to come help you.
When we go to buy food for the firehouse we always park illegal yet who on digg has ever raised a bitch that firemen get to break the law all the time? Why is it that people do not follow around firemen looking for them to break the law?- cawpin, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9A typical 2 lane street is only 26 feet wide. A four lane road would be 52 feet. That's about 1/3 the distance you just stated. They could have easily parked legally and still been within their "rules". They also could have parked in the PARKING lot that they pulled into during the video. Lastly, rules don't trump laws.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4The cop could have easily parked in the same exact parking place by going with the flow of traffic down that one way street, rather than against the flow. They almost drove head on into on coming traffic pulling out, and I can only imagine how many people they cut off getting into that parking place.
