- mrcaulfield, on 11/29/2008, -0/+10I sincerely hope to God that these people don't get wiped out.
- Alheithinn, on 11/29/2008, -0/+8This is very sad, and one of the sad things about this process is that the missionaries who are often responsible for this cultural genocide are lauded as heroes, or even as martyrs, if one of them is killed in the process. Leave these people alone. Leave them the customs and traditions of their ancestors. Keep Christianity to yourself and respect their right to belief.
- MediaWeasel, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6Me too, mrcaulfield, although compassion and humanitarianism aren't likely to prove to be big obstacles in the way of a big company's profits.
Why should these people be forced to live on reservations and reduce their access to food or limit their survival. My feeling is that not only do we need to reduce our need for oil we also need to reduce our reliance on tropical forests for wood. You can see the deep scars of logging from space. - Equinamin, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2I hope that indigenous cultures can outrun the cogs in the wheels of what, Progress?
Worked with many tribes and as the old film, The Gods must be Crazy... still highlighted...so futuristically and so damn funny...
we can look to past tribes' to see the future, that they want for their communities.
