Desktop Tower Defense 1.5 Released
handdrawngames.com — New creeps, weapons and graphics. Watch as office productivity drops to an all time low!
- 1901 diggs
- digg it
- getsalted, on 10/11/2007, -13/+60Like the new digg comment system, I must say that I'm not fond of the new interface. I also think that the dark creeps and ink towers feel gimmicky. Maybe it's just the change that bothers me, but a lot is change for the sake of change like with the gold/score/level info on the top. Maybe it'll grow on me. The new group creeps though with the Kongregate 'K' on them look like a sell-out and I hate in game advertising.
- GregLoire, on 10/11/2007, -15/+33Yeah, I hate it when developers of an extremely popular free online game can find a way to support themselves without charging money from their fans. HATE IT!
- ab9003, on 10/11/2007, -14/+3GregLoire, shouldn't you be busy digging a kongregate article or buying an I love Kongregate shirt right now or something?...sheesh...
- paedansu, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3Sadly this looks to go beyond self support. Kongregate probably pays more than enough to support it just for the ad at the beginning and the card in the background. As soon as a brand name goes on a gameplay element, you've taken it too far.
Also, that's really idiotic marketing. "Dude! Make the Group guys little Kongregate guys instead! That'll be awesome and it's... like... a pun or something!"- nobiology, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I don't really see what the big deal is. This isn't like EA putting ads in bf2142 where they're tacking onto the cash they already got from you for buying the game in the first place. Its just some guy making bank on his game, that you can play for free to begin with. What should he do? Turn down the money? If this guy is getting filthy rich off his game, I say more power to him.
- sockboy, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Haven't had much opportunity to play it, but what's with the dark creeps? Bullets just bounce off of them. They confuse me.
- caffiend, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I don't get them either. WTF
- BIGRed1022, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3The ink tower kills the dark creeps
- bluearch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I wouldn't say they "kill" them. Damage yes... but as of now I haven't been able to kill them with the ink towers.
- bluearch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3upgrade squirt tower to kill the Dark creeps.
- BIGRed1022, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I did some searching. You need a level 3 squirt or dart tower to kill them. I've killed them with the ink but it's not fast.
- Goner, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4why they gotta be DARK creeps, anyway?!
- spiffytech, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1It must be the color of the "armor" they wear.
- bluearch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I wouldn't say they "kill" them. Damage yes... but as of now I haven't been able to kill them with the ink towers.
- Moocat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4So do other towers, but I think they have to be upgraded first. Haven't tested but I think they might not be affected by just water towers and pellet towers. Pretty sure they were taking the hits from dart and freeze.
- merripen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I think they have damage reduction - they ignore a set amount of damage, and you have to surpass that amount to begin harming them.
- spiffytech, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Bash towers (even level 1) damage the dark creeps. By the time you get your bash tower to level three or four, they're destroyed in one stroke.
- bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2stop being such a bitch getsalted.
- sprinter9109, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4can we please all stop complaining about the damn Digg comment system, I think we've gotten the point already. We don't need ***** from people like you on every post.
- Slacker1031, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2who exactly are they selling out to, and why exactly do you care? The only way it's in-game advertising is if you interpret it to be that way, any other person would just see a K with a red circle around it.
- GregLoire, on 10/11/2007, -15/+33Yeah, I hate it when developers of an extremely popular free online game can find a way to support themselves without charging money from their fans. HATE IT!
- Shawn4168, on 10/11/2007, -7/+52Sweet...can't wait to get home and play. As for the in game advertising, so what? If you spent all of your time developing a free internet game that's entertained millions of people for hours and hours, wouldn't you want to be compensated for it? A guy's got to make a living somehow.
- swizzcheez, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I wonder how many of the folks who are diggin' the parent down actually have real jobs in the industry.
- meatwadlurker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This dude makes more than 10k / month because of this game...
- onestab, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Meat is right, he makes over $10K a month, from ads you see before the game and on the sidebars. Also, I shot him five bucks on paypal, and I'm sure others did too. The Kongregate creeps are overkill.
- caffiend, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28Great! Now I don't have to hold down Shift any more to create multiple of one tower.
- MarginOfError, on 10/11/2007, -19/+9I don't like it. The new menu is ugly. The new creeps/towers are stupid. Give me 1.21 back, please.
- DesignEx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Looks good... subtle improvements, the gameplay is still the same which is good.
- leftnut, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1Damn you Digg, you've killed it!
- seifried, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12This is the first Kongregate game I have seen with working volume control, yeha.

- TyroPyro, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Easy to see now with expand all. Wish I could make it default
- darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6You all just wasted 30 seconds of my life.
- LostnTransition, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I saw it... and logging in and then posting...deff. waste of 45 seconds!!! woohoo!!!

- qwerty1024, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Thank you a million times for not releasing that on a Monday
- sarimarton, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0HAHHHAHA!
- hevnsnt, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2*****!
- Grumby24, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I wish they still had a Pause button, they new way takes too many mouse clicks.
- caffiend, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Bring back the spacebar pause! Way too many clicks? Just click the Menu button. Only took me one click.
- harshalx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I want a pause button. Please bring it back the pause.
- willin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Just use the "Menu" button.
- counterstriker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7new tower defense? But I still haven't beat the old one!!!!!!
- indorock, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Have a look at Google's contextual adwords just above the flash embed. Sure it caught the "Tower" keyword well enough, but i still think it misses the proper context ;)
- lukasmack, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1is it just me or is this the same as xeno tactics?
- sgoogle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Xeon Tactics copied Desktop Tower Defence
- ShagratOfMordor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4He seems to have internationalized it by removing half the text! It would be nice to have the text labels like "cost", "range" and "damage" return next to the pretty icons. Maybe throw in a little more gold too because those new towers are expensive.
Both the bonus countdown on the "send next level" and the ability to build towers without re-selecting the type are nice improvements. - revjustin2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Me like.
- Sparda, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I noticed a HUGE bug in this new version. If you try to place a turret that is obviously blocking the path. Then place a missile turret over a patch of area, you get rapid fire turrets.
- sharkbaitbobby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Wow! I honestly didn't think that would work, but it does! It also seems to upgrade much much quickly too.
Thanks for the tip! Great for killing those annoying dark creeps. - jonlee, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2To be more descriptive. What you do is... select a missle turret.
Try to build it over a place where it is blocking. Click as fast as you can on that area (the blocking message will come up).
Then as quickly as you can, build the turret in a place that isn't blocking. The speed at which your turret fires depends on how much you clicked in a blocked area. - jonlee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Also, works with any turret.
- jerichokb, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0This has been fixed.
- sharkbaitbobby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Wow! I honestly didn't think that would work, but it does! It also seems to upgrade much much quickly too.
- Sparda, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4I noticed a HUGE bug in this new version. If you try to place a turret that is obviously blocking the path. Then place a missile turret over a patch of area, you get rapid fire turrets.
- thevoden, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5great game! does anyone know any way to get this on a cell phone or any portable device? if not then maybe offline? Like i Have vbulletin and would like to put it there
- Pilgrim, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Being able to play it on a cellphone would be uber sweet.
- fuckingusername, on 10/11/2007, -21/+1why do people play lame flash based games, play a real game , like guild wars stalker world of war crap something
- tsteenbu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1While playing at work it's easier to hide a flash based game.
- jworkin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Hate the new labels. Pictures for damage and range and cost are much harder to figure out than the old system.
- mkearl, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11You know, I'm not that impressed. The graphics look worse ( I mean, just keep them simple), and not a fan of the dark creeps.... The new ink tower seems useless.
- Beevo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It's ok, but really didn't change enough. My same basic strategy will get me though a normal game with no life loss and a hard game with 3 loss. I guess maybe if I wanted to get into a points chase it might hold my attention more, but really the additional tower isn't useful at all so I built one maxxed it out sold it cause it wasn't doing enough.
- coyo7e, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The ink towers really suck; their range, duration, and deadzones never change, so they continue sucking even though they can put out a lot of damage if they're lucky enough to hit something before the ink vanishes.. Most of the time they can't even hit their primary target!
- TheBigBrother, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4First digg, then this. Has the internet reached a point where everything is so perfect that it can't be better?
- anyo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18I've lost the bleeps, the sweeps, and the creeps.
The what?!
Thats not all he's lost...
/spaceballs- LostnTransition, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Your my new hero
- dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1does anyone know how to change the quality of the flash file? my comptuer freezes with this new one, i used to be able to put the quality on low to prevent it from freezing
- jeffkissel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I wonder if he'd consider putting out a non-KONGREGATE version that doesn't need to talk to homebase? I'd pay a couple of bucks for it, just to be able to go full screen, or to be able to play it offline. Oh well, back to the old version for me.
- streborzil, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1how do you play the old version? i still haven't beaten that one really yet. i'd like to before i play this new one to death.
- zodiac1233, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0I was a beta tester
- razrielle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I beta tested your mom
- dirtyhalfpipe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yet another tower defense game. i played the first one until it got boring. each one after that has been exactly the same with minor changes. the TD idea is really exhausted now.
- zapa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I love td
- psykiv, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I'd like to know how much upgrades cost... thanks.
Even though I've played it 1000000 times, I still don't have the costs memorized.- AltEfFour, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1The yellow writing, it says + 100 or whatever for the next upgrade.
- rideagain, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3This is less good than the previous one. The big add on the bottom right of the game screen when you play is unbearable, and the "K" creeps are a sellout.
- Uranium118, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Damn it, I must build additional pylons.
- DigablePlanet, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3ahhh crap...here goes my social life
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1There went your social life. lol
- LostnTransition, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3I hate to say it but you guys are very mistaken Kongregate is a great website that rewards the people that submit and design new games, and even holds a contest weekly to see which is best, it truly is the "Digg" of online games, I see no problem giving a little credit where its due. Kongregate isn't yahoo games or any of the new pay sites for games, I could understand the outrage if they were moving to something like gametap.com or another similar website, but that simply isn't the case.....P.S. Let the flaming of me begin because everyone has an opinion and I'm excited to hear about it!!!
- RobotChicken1, on 03/07/2008, -3/+1Since when is gametap a bad thing? I love it because they put a lot of my favorite under-appreciated games on gametap, giving them more exposure. Psyconauts is the perfect example.
- LostnTransition, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The difference is the subscription fees. Plain and simple...
- RobotChicken1, on 03/07/2008, -3/+1Since when is gametap a bad thing? I love it because they put a lot of my favorite under-appreciated games on gametap, giving them more exposure. Psyconauts is the perfect example.
- stephenhoffman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Cool, but you can beat it by just making a maze.
- JebJoya, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yeah, but the point is to perfect the maze - when you get up to medium, hard, or, even better, the 100 mode, you'll understand how important both the maze design and the art of juggling is. Too many commas. Oops.
- parkermauney, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Thanks digg for ruining an hour of my life. :D
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You know, I see people bashing the advertisements, but honestly, I didn't even notice them. Here's a clue... get over it. It didn't bother me any, and why should it bother you? It's free, and a little advertising is a small price to pay for a decent game. That is, of course, if the advertising doesn't actually interfere with the game play.
- thegoodsteer, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1This game is fun for about 15 minutes.
- EliteMacFreak, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Does anyone have a copy of the old version? I'd rather keep that one than this one.
- Urzeitlich, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I'd buy an offline version in a heartbeat.
- DeFex, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1i never heard of this. now i wasted 2 hours and i have to go to work in the morning :)
- c0y0t3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1No. Just no.
- memnok, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2for those who miss the old version, like me :-)
http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/DesktopTD121b.swf (it plays full screen too) - bar10dr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Digg NEEDS nested comments.
- Goner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1there ya go
- Goner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1there ya go
- DeathnLife, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Oh man. You can't use TSearch to hack it anymore.
- bmc152006, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1who cares
- user777, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Anyone beat Level 91, on for fun, 10K ? It's impossible, 20 flying sauces, each with 170K. My goodness. no problem with the rest. The boss at L88 is 1600K. Moly holy mother of gawd.
