Kojima really needs to do some heavy editing, you can cut those cutscenes in half and still evoke the same amount of emotions....in fact it takes away from the story when you pile it up with needless cutscenes.

      However, I just don't like Yahtzee. Never did.

      Anything that features this over used canned sample looses all of my respect and all its credibility. It's cliche as much as that typical dog yelp/howl. The only instance of the dog sound I can think of is from The People Under the Stairs when the dog goes down the trap door. I know I've heard it enough times to make me groan and say "Seriously, that the only sample they could find?"

          The gut-wrenching scream however is less well known (by name) and therefore more fun, not to mention the countless gamers who were (subconsciously) introduced to it by starcraft.

The cutscenes did last forever, and it never became boring to make fun of that fact but the cutscenes themselves never became boring either. I had never played any Metal Gear games before, and though I didn't understand most of the ***** they were throwing at me, I still enjoyed them. This is one game that you aren't going to ruin for my Yahtzee, and I honestly hope that you are just trying to please the fans by being insulting to it, because I thought it was a gem, as I did Portal and Psychonauts.

I don't have much bandwidth (only 40 KB/s down) so I have to deal with extra loading of something I'm not going to be watching. Also, if it hasn't loaded enough and needs to stop to load more, the bar (used to seek) at the bottom doesn't seem to go past the point where it stopped, it plays, but I have to reload the whole video if I want to seek to a point past where the bar stopped.
    One more thing that effects anyone: it's cuts off some of the video, just look at the title, it is cut off.

I think about two reviews ago, I had this problem where in the middle of the ***** video, and ad would start playing. Not a popup ad at the bottom, but an actual video ad. It drove me batty, and I couldn't do anything to fix it. I never got to see the end of that review, because the video would stop after the ad was finished. Piece of crap.

    So, on to the topic itself.
    Personally, I don't like MGS for the same reasons Yahtzee mentioned (i.e. too wordy, too much *****), but he failed to mention the amount off detail that went into the game. Then again, I suppose that wouldn't be too funny.

He basically just rambles on about how much any game sucks. I mean yeah it was funny and unique the first time or so.     Here's an idea, if you think you are going to like the game, buy it. If you are unsure, rent it. If you have no interest in it, then don't buy. I personally don't care how much yahtzee hated it. I'll find out for myself.

        Let me start with a question. When you watch stand up comedy, how much of their time is spent taking the stupidity of the world around them in politics and the media, as well as the little things we deal with every day, and pointing out how humerus they really are?

        Every single one of the Jeff Foxworthy's "Ya might be a redneck if..." jokes are right on the money. Every single part of the George Carlin - Euphemisms skit is dead on. Every thing Robin Williams said about raising a kid in Live at the Met is true. It's that truth, coupled with the whimsical presentation, that makes them freaking hilarious.

        Yahtzee is the same to a degree. He is not the stand up commedian that Jeff or Geroge or Robin is, but he is providing a niche (for games) brand of humor that can't be found any where else. He is also, in a way, a shining beacon of hope in an otherwise rather muddied video-game-review world.

        He refuses to put scores on his reviews because he acknowledges the problems inherent in doing so and the fact that that is just asking for trouble from the publishing houses. He also doesn't pull his punches or gloss things over. He provides an alternative to the never ending litany of praise every game ever reviewed by any one has always received even when that reviewer gave it a absolute fail score of "omg! 4". Most of us are so tired of looking at reviews that are never honest because we can do exactly what you describe, rent the game and take it back if we don't like it, that we have stopped caring. He makes what that fun again.

        Mean while the reviewers at other sites are losing their jobs if they DARE give even the worse game ever made a score lower than 5 on what is supposed to be a 1-10 point scale. Look on freaking steam for god sake. All the meta scores are 50+. Not even one of them dips below that no matter how unsuccessful and even out right reviled the game was by the public or reviewers.

        And yes, he rambles on and on. That's his shtick. That's his southern drawl and flannel shirt. That's his anger at the world with words dripping of sarcasm. That's his Disney Land like goofiness and overly dramatizing the events he is lampooning. It's like Ben Stein's mono-tone voice or the way Gabriel Iglesias constantly rags on mexicans and fat people, both categories which Gabriel himself belongs to, or Jeff Dunham's Puppets. That's why his column is called "Zero Punctuation."

        *shrug* I'm not saying you have to like him. I personally can't stand Ben Stien and I actually like Gabriel Iglesias more than Dane Cook but I understand their shtick... even if I don;t think it's funny. Hopefully you can understand Yahtzee's now too.

He definitely tends to prefer sleeper hits and games that don't receive much hype. (After all, games that don't receive much hype are the kind that can perform beyond expectation.)

      But you are generally right that these days Yahtzee has become a bit of a one trick pony. You could almost literally imagine the entire review before even watching it, (save for an exaggerated analogy here or there,) then pretty much dismiss what he says because he's become a bit of a party crasher lately. Most of us legitimately enjoy the games he reviews. It's a little sad for some of the people who jump on the bandwagon and start hating something as well just because Yahtzee says so. I do agree, play what you like, who cares what anyone else thinks -- it's just entertainment value.

      Despite this damn bury brigade, I dugg you up.
