- rjwusa, on 10/05/2008, -1/+29This brings a tear to my eye. Why has my beloved country moved so far off it's course? Read enjoy this, and share with your children. They will never be given the opportunity to read this address in a public school. We may come upon a time when those who endeavor to remove all references of God from society will then endeavor to remove all references to great leaders from our society. Cherish that you still have the freedom to read this great president's words.
- nbnj, on 10/05/2008, -15/+0It brings a smirk to my mouth that anyone would be gullible enough---and dumb enough---to worship a shopworn blowhard like Ronald "*****" Reagan.
Get a life, small man.

Common sense told us that when you put a big tax on something, the people will produce less of it. So, we cut the people's tax rates, and the people produced more than ever before. The economy bloomed like a plant that had been cut back and could now grow quicker and stronger.
But back in the 1960s, when I began, it seemed to me that we'd begun reversing the order of things--that through more and more rules and regulations and confiscatory taxes, the government was taking more of our money, more of our options, and more of our freedom. I went into politics in part to put up my hand and say, "Stop." I was a citizen politician, and it seemed the right thing for a citizen to do.
I think we have stopped a lot of what needed stopping. And I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.
An informed patriotism is what we want. And are we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world? Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America. We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American. And we absorbed, almost in the air, a love of country and an appreciation of its institutions. If you didn't get these things from your family, you got them from the neighborhood, from the father down the street who fought in Korea or the family who lost someone at Anzio. Or you could get a sense of patriotism from school. And if all else failed, you could get a sense of patriotism from popular culture. The movies celebrated democratic values and implicitly reinforced the idea that America was special. TV was like that, too, through the mid-'60s
But now, we're about to enter the '90s, and some things have changed. Younger parents aren't sure that an unambivalent appreciation of America is the right thing to teach modern children. And as for those who create the popular culture, well-grounded patriotism is no longer the style. Our spirit is back, but we haven't reinstitutionalized it. We've got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It's fragile; it needs protection. - Ferretman, on 10/05/2008, -1/+21Damn I miss him. A great man.

- Madrigalian, on 10/05/2008, -1/+19"And in all of that time I won a nickname, "The Great Communicator." But I never thought it was my style or the words I used that made a difference: It was the content. I wasn't a great communicator, but I communicated great things, and they didn't spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation--from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in principles that have guided us for two centuries. They called it the Reagan revolution. Well, I'll accept that, but for me it always seemed more like the great rediscovery, a rediscovery of our values and our common sense."
... - linuxdad, on 10/05/2008, -1/+18Amen.
- Pitofdoom, on 10/05/2008, -1/+12Let us presume, for the sake of argument that Republican's/ capitalists are thieves.
Republicans may steel your money thru government bail outs,
democrats intend to steel your liberty using government bail outs!
Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, Kerry.
These people truly "believe" THEIR government is the solution, YOU are the problem !
Your to "stupid" to have endowed liberty, their "intelligence" thru caesar might grant it.
It's your patriotic duty to give all you are or have to the state, because the state is you !! - ThinkOutTheBox, on 10/05/2008, -2/+10Neo-cons or Marxist..... Give me the neo-cons that way at least they will have to come get me through a wall of flying lead.
- bernk1, on 10/05/2008, -1/+6What? "Give me the neo-cons that way at least they will have to come get me through a wall of flying lead." Your meaning is what?
Many "neo-conservatives" backed Reagan.- ThinkOutTheBox, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6What I mean is that the Neo-conservatives will let me keep my guns where as the Marxist want to take them away. SO if the bad guys try to come and get me for what ever reason.
- bernk1, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Thanks for the clarification. I thought that you were saying that the neo-cons would have to come through a wall of flying lead.

- rightwingattila, on 10/05/2008, -2/+12It has been 20 years since Reagan left office and in this time we have not seen any politician who could hold a candle to him, until Sarah Palin stepped on the national stage. She shares Reagan's moral beliefs and can connect with a majority of Americans with her common sense approach to the problems facing our country. No matter what happens next month, I say Palin 2012!
- Pitofdoom, on 10/05/2008, -1/+8Common sense doesn't hold a candle to the left's intelligentsia !
- kaosethema, on 10/05/2008, -6/+2yes, i don't know of any other president that gave more to the rich!!
- Nannybell, on 10/05/2008, -2/+11We are in a serious war within our own shores. I think this is just now dawning on some, but it needs to be realized by us all. We cannot continue to sit by and just let the govt. happen by itself. Forces are at work attempting to take us into serious socialism and curtailed liberty, including our freedom of speech (Fairness Doctrine, hate speech laws). When a just war comes our way, we have to fight. I read statements here on Digg to the effect that the liberals are taking over, so we need to resign ourselves to that. Why? I'd rather die trying than just give in. They have a headstart because we weren't paying attention. But now we are.
I believe very firmly that we can change this thing by the simple act of breathing down the necks of our elected officials with weekly, if not daily, phone calls, letters and emails, checking up on what they are doing, what they are voting for or against, pushing them to work toward our goals as defined by us rather than lobbyists. It isn't enough to let conservative organizations inform us occasionally when there is an especially odious piece of legislation threatening. No, we have to watch what is going on with ALL legislation. It's a tedious task, but we can't shirk our duty. It's either that, or go quietly into that dark night of socialism.- machinepolitick, on 10/06/2008, -2/+5You are absolutely right. I could fill pages with the things I've heard from Liberals lately that make my skin crawl.
Fortunately, people are waking up. Lots of them are young.
Because I am not a people person, I will not go into politics. However, I have chosen to use my art to stir people up and remind them of what our country should be and what our government should do. If you're interested, I'd love some feedback. www.machinepolitick.com
You're right about being aware and spreading awareness. Things happen every day that we never hear about. It is our responsibility to hold these politicians accountable. Don't stop trying.
- machinepolitick, on 10/06/2008, -2/+5You are absolutely right. I could fill pages with the things I've heard from Liberals lately that make my skin crawl.
- thepalineffect, on 10/05/2008, -2/+8Thank you Ronald Reagan for all you've done for our country.
- kaosethema, on 10/05/2008, -8/+1yes, trickle-down economics do so much good for the rich.
and the poor... umm, what poor?- thepalineffect, on 10/06/2008, -1/+5Are you talking about the richest poor in the world? Maybe you should be introduced to the poor in other countries so you can have a first hand introduction to the effects of other economies on the lowest denominator.
- kaosethema, on 10/05/2008, -8/+1yes, trickle-down economics do so much good for the rich.
- kaosethema, on 10/05/2008, -6/+2yay, celebrate trickle down economics (harsh for reagonomics)
give to the ailing rich, there are no poor people in America.
oh, wait, aren't we doing that today?- machinepolitick, on 10/06/2008, -1/+5I hope you realize that rich people are typically rich because they work hard. No, I'm not rich. I've worked 2 jobs to pay the bills and gotten an education. Take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming someone else.
- kaosethema, on 10/06/2008, -4/+1yeah, i didn't go to college. i just got rich on being naturally more intelligent than you. yes, i am rich.
but i remember being poor and i remember reaganomics stepping on the necks of every working class american.
- bradysbeau, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4The only time in my many years of voting that I voted Republican. I am not now or will ever be ashamed of that. Today I am a Libertarian. I cannot see myself voting for anyone else in the two parties as they haven't the dignity, grace or spirit this man possessed.
- machinepolitick, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4You are absolutely right. The Republicans of today like to invoke Reagan's name, but they have no right. This country won't change until people stop voting for the major parties and start voting on principle.
- zephyear, on 10/06/2008, -6/+1ronald reagan was pure ***** evil.
