"I think that what we're seeing is an escalation of this sort of thing since the election," Riffe said in an interview. "Instead of hiding behind white hoods, they're hiding behind the Internet."
Indeed. - zurama, on 11/17/2008, -1/+17That is very disturbing, but not surprising-there are a lot of nuts out there. I hope the president elect has the best security team around him.
- NocturnalLee, on 12/08/2008, -1/+13I have mixed feelings about articles like this. On one hand, I suppose it could give people "ideas" about doing this themselves. On the other, I think we need to remember keep on top of this kind of racist attack and send a strong message that it is unacceptable. Personally, I'd like to see more stories about people who do this getting prosecuted, because I think that would be a real deterrent.
- Gemfinder, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9We knew it would come to this, last year when Mr. Obama announced he was running. This is why Secret Service attached a detail to him the second he did. Now they're probably going to need a detail on him the size of most standing Presidents, when his term's up. Now that he is our President-elect, soon to be President, they'll probably have to increase his protection tenfold.
Land of the free? Nope. Home of the brave? Oh, yeah. - SoniaS, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5If we have to drag that 15-20% of America forward kicking and screaming if necessary. This kind of thinking and behavior is not acceptable in America. You have to be forceful with prosecution right up front.
- oldgal, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2With the election of Obama racists have been deemed irrelevant. They are no longer seen as superior to anyone. They are now at the bottom of the heap where they belong, and unfortunately they are performing acts to prove that this is where they belong.
