- woodnymph, on 06/20/2008, -9/+55... head to the Hague to face war crimes charges?
- gavinhudson, on 06/20/2008, -3/+8I think woodnymph is right. He directly violated the Geneva Convention. He even had the audacity to pass a bill pardoning HIMSELF for war crimes. wtf??!
- noahhoward, on 06/20/2008, -15/+4Geneva convention does not cover nationless combatants, try again.
- pintomp3, on 06/20/2008, -4/+14you neo-con idiot. we agreed to the geneva conventions, therefore we abide by them.
“The Secretary seems unaware of the requirements of international humanitarian law,” said Jamie Fellner, director of Human Rights Watch´s U.S. Program. “As a party to the Geneva Conventions, the United States is required to treat every detained combatant humanely, including unlawful combatants. The United States may not pick and choose among them to decide who is entitled to decent treatment.”
http://www.hrw.org/press/2002/01/us011102.htm - cJw314, on 06/20/2008, -2/+3Haha, you idiot.
- noahhoward, on 06/20/2008, -2/+3"you neo-con idiot. we agreed to the geneva conventions, therefore we abide by them."
Read again, I know it's hard so I'll cap it for you "NOT COVERED BY THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS".
You get it that time? I don't care what Jamie Fellner says, there was nothing in the GC to cover unlawful combatants.
Trying to label me a conservative without knowing a damn thing about me, while expected, still doesn't make it so. - Verfel, on 06/20/2008, -3/+3noahhoward is right, there is nothing to cover unlawful combatants because the Bush administration made up the classification to torture them.
The GC covers two groups, civilians and POWs, which covers ALL classifications... =P - noahhoward, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Wrong, Verfel, what constitutes POW status is clearly defined in the GC:
"Article 4 defines prisoners of war to include:
* 4.1.1 Members of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict and members of militias of such armed forces
* 4.1.2 Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, provided that they fulfill all of the following conditions:
o that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;
o that of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance (there are limited exceptions to this among countries who observe the 1977 Protocol I);
o that of carrying arms openly;
o that of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.
* 4.1.3 Members of regular armed forces who profess allegiance to a government or an authority not recognized by the Detaining Power.
* 4.1.4 Civilians who have non-combat support roles with the military and who carry a valid identity card issued by the military they support.
* 4.1.5 Merchant marine and the crews of civil aircraft of the Parties to the conflict, who do not benefit by more favourable treatment under any other provisions of international law.
* 4.1.6 Inhabitants of a non-occupied territory, who on the approach of the enemy spontaneously take up arms to resist the invading forces, without having had time to form themselves into regular armed units, provided they carry arms openly and respect the laws and customs of war.
* 4.3 makes explicit that Article 33 takes precedence for the treatment of medical personnel of the enemy and chaplains of the enemy.

Unlawful combatant is not a term coined by Bush. Incidently I fall into 4.1.4.

- skazhy, on 06/20/2008, -8/+42frankly, but i didn't see 'learn how to speak english' on the list
- GunnerMan, on 06/20/2008, -6/+1Take a look at Obama for bad speaking, he can't seem to say a word right without his teleprompter.
- john2kx, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1Would you have preferred he memorize all his speeches?
- funkyloki, on 06/20/2008, -1/+0Are you ***** kidding me? Just about everyone uses a teleprompter or notes when making speeches. Live or on TV, it doesn't matter, that is common. Only a moron would go on stage without at least some freakin' notes. If whether or not a speaker uses a teleprompter is your basis for picking a candidate, good luck finding someone.
Obama happens to be one of the most eloquent speakers we've heard in a long time, AND he writes his own speeches. So he has to have a teleprompter. Big whoop-dee-doo. I'd like to see you give a 10 minute speech completely memorized. Hell, I'd like to see you even WRITE a ten minute speech that is half as eloquent as Obama's. also, so you don't think I'm just some Obama fanboy, I would have said the same thing to you whether you were talking about Obama, McCain or any other speaker.
And BTW, you should have used a semi-colon in your sentence (or broke it into two sentences) instead of a comma, you idiot. - verdouxkai, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1I wish Bush would read his, he might not sound like such a dumbass half the time!
- popstop785, on 06/20/2008, -4/+2Half of this country cannot speak English anymore. Hell, people lose jobs because they CAN speak English.
- falstaff, on 06/20/2008, -0/+6If you had stuck to either "frankly" or "but" without trying to force them together, that post would have been a whole lot less ironic.
- donkevin, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1I wish your post sucked so I could call you failstaff.

- DiggieDarko, on 06/20/2008, -7/+24Perhaps he could do some quality hunting with Cheney and they could accidentally blow each other's brains out.
- harveywalbanger, on 06/20/2008, -2/+3Or blow each other like they've been doing for the past 8 years.
- xtinamo, on 06/20/2008, -4/+8I would suggest that he buy his soul back from the devil, but I can imagine how hard it would be to suddenly empathize with the people whose deaths he is responsible for. I also bet it's expensive as hell.

- DuggDowner, on 06/20/2008, -1/+4I hope your book is better punctuated than that comment.

- km6847, on 06/20/2008, -15/+3Attention angry liberals... it's over. Bush is done. You can move on now and quit acting like a bunch of 4 year olds who got a spanking. Let it go so you can be ready for the total beat down you're going to receive after 4 years of Obamania ruining this country.
- pneininger, on 06/20/2008, -2/+8Hate to break it to you, but there is not much left to ruin.
- GunnerMan, on 06/20/2008, -6/+2So according to you the country is in shambles, nothing left in it is good, and you have nothing left to live for?
Then how about you GTFO- DuggDowner, on 06/20/2008, -1/+3Why don't you STFU? Everybody who disagrees with you is "filth" or should leave the country? Why don't you take your Stalinist, America-hating attitude elsewhere?
- GunnerMan, on 06/20/2008, -4/+1DuggDowner how about your read my post. Not at all, most of my best friends disagree with me in the nature of politics. They become filth when they say their leaders and representatives should "swing." BTW I am not America hating, I love this country more than you could ever imagine. I love it because it is one of the few places left where we have personal liberties(not for long though), we are free to speak, free to do anything we want.
Stalin was a dictator, read my other replys here in this topic you will see my belifes are FAR from dictatorial. America hating, if I hated America I would leave. - Aethirig, on 06/20/2008, -1/+4The McCainobots really suck at trolling.
- GunnerMan, on 06/20/2008, -6/+2So according to you the country is in shambles, nothing left in it is good, and you have nothing left to live for?
- bbqsalad, on 06/20/2008, -1/+6Nobody is going to forget his crimes. He will pay dearly for what he has done. And you will always know how stupid you are for voting him in. It must be depressing knowing how loony your beliefs are.
- km6847, on 06/20/2008, -4/+1It's depressing to know how to fix this country and to have losers like you be so blind. That being said, I do loves me some BBQ, so maybe you're not all that bad.
- GunnerMan, on 06/20/2008, -4/+0How loony his belifes are? Take a look at yours? You know what my belifes are? They are very very simple...
I belive in personal liberty, the power of an individual to make their own decisions and judgements. Not have a big brother up there telling me what I can and can't do with myself or my stuff. I belive the US is a land of great wealth but no one should be obligated to give you that wealth, if you want something you work for it. Don't come to the US asking/expecting handouts. I belive in a strong military that can protect the way of life of America.
When I read the Consitution and others this is what I see in them. A very simple document designed to put just enough power with the government to keep order and peace but not enough to hinder the way people want to live. The government was meant to be very conservative from the start, not meant to be in the way of anybody.
I think the definition of a conservative/republican has been skewed and/or misinterpreted over the years to look like something it is not, because the people that hate it try as hard as possible to change it to look evil and bad because they are afraid of it, just like they are afraid of FOX News. I am not afraid of liberals or liberalism, I can talk it out with them without resorting to a bunch of *****.
bbqsalad I don't think my beliefs are that loony...pretty simple and straight forward. I would be interested to hear what your belifes are in a paragraph.
- ricky125, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2how will Obamania ruin this country?
- km6847, on 06/20/2008, -4/+3Higher taxes, nationalized health care, more government control, more spending, less freedom. I mean, come on, are you really that confused?
- Verfel, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2I find it funny that you say that in the wake of a republican president who raised taxes, didn't nationalize healthcare, didn't control his government, spent us into a depressing deficit, and has taken away more freedoms than since we were controlled by Great Britain.
I mean come on, are you really that confused? - ricky125, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2less freedom? .. republicans, I should say conservatives, ALWAYS want to take away personal freedoms. Name me a personal freedom that the republicans want to give me?
- km6847, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1Verfel - are you drunk? Bush cut taxes. Nationalized health care would kill our economy and cause horrible conditions. I'm not at all depressed about the deficit and I would like you to name 1 freedom Bush took away. You're wild 4th grade level statements are based on nothing. Please, don't post here again until you graduate from high school.

Its obvious that the author, a Ms. Kate Carter, has never been to Houston, or Galveston in particular. NOBODY has ever called Galveston's beaches "lovely." Sand, rocks, and trash are the 3 defining features.
Dugg down for false advertising.
Edit: While I understand that sand and rocks are part of a "beach local," the shear amount of trash is disgusting. Especially how lots of it just washes in with the tide.- newwildlife, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1I am pretty sure she was being ironic..........................
