And we'll give a flag to their families when these poor bastards die
Nationalistic pride is ***** ***** why can't the people see
As long as flags fly up above us no one's really free
Free?

- foxhaze, on 05/23/2008, -9/+12Everybody knows that the proper way to display the flag is "on fire".
- RealmDown, on 05/23/2008, -3/+2But the proper way to respect it is make the one burning it have less teeth.
- Joshuarr, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1(Fewer.)
- RealmDown, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1As long as the teeth are removed in such as way as to deter future, similar "proper displays," then either way it is stated is fine by me.

- jordankasteler, on 05/23/2008, -1/+13For all the ignorant people out there..an upside down flag is STILL RESPECTFUL. It's a symbol that the nation is in distress.
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/23/2008, -3/+7I thought wearing a flag lapel pin made in CHINA showed my patriotism?
- RealmDown, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1Why, I believe you when you say you thought that.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/23/2008, -3/+3This is the best way to display a flag: http://i28.tinypic.com/2r2nbl5.jpg

- quaxon, on 05/23/2008, -8/+3Burn your countries flags
***** your patriotic pride
***** the politicians and the ***** they try to hide
...
And what of those who speak out? Will those "traitors" then be killed?
The only traitors that exist are the traitors to mankind
The ones who put the money first and the people's need behind
They say if we don't love our country then get the hell out
Should we be thankful to die in battle for what our flag's about?
Well ***** off
***** you
***** hear this
Your ignorant petty support doesn't mean piss
Don't support war, no matter what the cause
Your ***** flags and damn religion just feed corporate claws
I renounce my citizenship from the U.S.A. and I'd suggest the same for any country
Because countries kill the people's will with their patriotic lie
And every ***** day you're killing who they say and you never even wonder why
Why do we blindly follow what our leaders have to say?
Instead let's make them answer to the people they betray
We don't owe our leaders anything so ***** what they demand
Then disregard their ***** lies and bury them where they stand
The flags will cover coffins where these ***** will now lie
And we'll give a flag to their families when these poor bastards die
Natonalistic pride is ***** ***** why can't the people see
As long as flags fly up above us no one's really free
Free?- RealmDown, on 05/23/2008, -2/+3Extra strong kool-aid there, huh chief ?
- sgiffy, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1The flag made me do it.
- sgiffy, on 05/23/2008, -1/+6I used to not be a fan of the flag, being an ideologically pure sort and all, but the more I've thought about the more I kind of like it. Symbols are just that, symbols. They can mean what you want them to mean. Just because some use the flag for jingoism, war mongering, and other assholishness, that does not define what the flag intrinsically means.
Instead I choose to view it as the symbol for what we can and should be. A free, tolerant, and great country, that respects the rights of all, leads the world in research and knowledge, and works to better the lot of humanity. We sure as hell are not there yet, but ideals are not something you do, they're something you strive for.
And that's my essay on "what the flag means to me" - AoiTakuma, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4I personally hate it when people wear flags. Also, those stupid lapel pins that all the politicians wear piss me off, those are not accurate representations of the flag.
- ehalasey, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Apparently, though it is customary to fly a flag on Mother's Day, you're free to skip Father's Day at will.
- runnergirl20, on 05/23/2008, -1/+2It is also strange that Easter is one of the days to fly the flag, because it's obviously a religious holiday. But then Christmas is not listed.
- runnergirl20, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5I like the part about only buying made in America flags. A made in China flag says "outsourcing run amok" not patriotism.
- Nhmarine, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1These rituals and flags are only abstract things, hell, who would know what the stars represent if we didn't tell them? Due to the ambiguity of nearly all traditions in that their meaning is so abstract that it could be changed at society's whim I never understood why they demand all of our respect. The flag is only a bit of mass produced symbolism, not the blood, honor and pain so many people go through. Don't give accolades to the flag, instead we should all lionize our fellow human.
- INDOAZZ, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Flag etiquette should be an AMERICAN family essential. I liked this information.
- Gazelem23, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2I agree with the buy flags made in the USA. I read about flags being made in China with 54 stars and 14 stripes. WTF?
- allaboutdatiki, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Thinking I'll stop by the neighborhood hardware store this weekend to see if they might have a grand ol' made in the USA flag to spare ...
- atdigg, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1You respect the flag by not sending people to die senselessly in the name of "protecting" it.
- noseeme, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Sometimes it seems like people care more about the flag than the country itself.
President ***** up the most powerful economy in the world: Meh
Liberal college students in Berkeley, CA burn a polyester flag: OMFG I AM OUTRAGED!!
