- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -11/+12Man, I'd be proud of a man who represented my state as being full of bigotry and hatred for black people, too!
- muerafidel, on 07/10/2008, -11/+13man are you an ignorant idiot.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -8/+10So says a person who thinks Jesse Helms was a good man.
- KJeffV, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2Apparently, you failed to read the art. Oh, wait! Reading AND comprehension!
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -11/+12Man, I'd be proud of a man who represented my state as being full of bigotry and hatred for black people, too!
- jb1965, on 07/10/2008, -11/+19I wish we had Senators like Senator Helms. His kind is a dying breed. Thanks to our socialist indictrination centers AKA public schools, we're not likely to see great men like him or Ronald Reagan.
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -12/+10"His kind is a dying breed."
I would hope most of us would think that a good thing. I know I feel no sympathy for racist bigoted pigs.- KJeffV, on 07/11/2008, -3/+1Rely upon the `NYT´ much?
- Barbary, on 07/10/2008, -10/+11Yep! Another ignoramus or a brainwashed product of the public education.
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -2/+6It might have done you some good to get an education barbary.
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -12/+10"His kind is a dying breed."
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -13/+15Man, Jesse Helms was such a wonderful guy. Remember the time he used racism in his campaign against a candidate of Greek ancestry? http://www.newsobserver.com/politics/politicians/h ...
And I don't think we'll ever forget that time when he helped Willis Smith's campaign for the Senate by warning that Smith's opponent would allow "Negroes" to work alongside white men's wives and daughters! Especially since he went to his grave never thinking that he was wrong.
What I think I'll remember most about Jesse Helms, though, is the time that he tried to make African-American senator Carol Moseley-Braun cry by singing "Dixie" while the two were in an elevator.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1871
Oh, yeah, and the part where he was friendly with Pinochet and Roberto D'Aubuisson... but we don't talk about that.
After hearing that, it hardly seems remarkable that Helms filibustered a proposal to make a holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Yeah, he was a really great guy, all right. Glad to see that witch Ann Coulter aligning herself with people who might just possibly be bigger douchebags than she is.- kittydee1, on 07/10/2008, -16/+11speaking of douchebags kayala,LOOK IN THE MIRROR
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -9/+7kittydee, you laughably ignorant little pest, why don't you let the grown-ups do the talking? You can go color or do something else age-appropriate.
- KJeffV, on 07/11/2008, -3/+1Speaking of grownups, who turned the conversation to vagina-washing?
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -8/+7"FAIR"??? THAT is your trustworthy source? Really? And you complain about Ann Coulter being biased...
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -1/+5It's not that I think Ann Coulter is biased. It's that Ann Coulter wouldn't know a fact if it slapped her in the face and the fact that Ann Coulter has no problem making ***** up just to keep herself in the limelight. She spouts vague but obvious lies that get ever-more controversial just so she can extend her brief moment of fame. Why she'd want to be famous as a world-class ignorant bitch is beyond me, but that's her call.
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -4/+1And you have specific references to facts she "made up"?
- kayala, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4Well, I'm at least pleased to see that you haven't read any of her books. They're trash, I wouldn't bother wasting your time or money on them.
Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:
http://slannder.homestead.com/files/chapter2critiq ...
The great part about Ann Coulter's books is that the claims tend to be so ridiculously vague, trying to find a single fact is a herculean task (don't even get me started on finding a thesis statement). But she's been known to make categorically false statements ("no evidence for evolution", anyone?), so those links should supply you with a bit of reading, if you're not too cowardly. Check out the links referenced on the first blog and you might just come out of your cave of scientific ignorance while you're at it! - KJeffV, on 07/11/2008, -5/+1I've read a ***** of history books; you'd be hard-pressed to find too many tomes sporting more footnotes/references than Ann's . . . proving you have NOT read them. Busted!

- kittydee1, on 07/10/2008, -12/+11because he was the opposite of assholes like you
- alkajazz, on 07/10/2008, -8/+11By opposite you mean a racist war-mongering friend of mass murderers right?
- flip2trip, on 07/10/2008, -11/+9AJ--did you read the article, or are you just destined to repeat the liberal mantra?
- alkajazz, on 07/10/2008, -6/+9You actually read WND?
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -6/+6I avoid reading anything written by that witch Ann Coulter. Each one of her vacuous screeds robs me of a couple IQ points. Alkajazz, you're right on the money.
- KJeffV, on 07/11/2008, -4/+1Ah, as I opined, above!
- kittydee1, on 07/10/2008, -12/+11because he was the opposite of assholes like you
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -4/+9I normally read these articles, but as soon as I saw the first image that popped up, I decided against it...
- rightwingattila, on 07/10/2008, -14/+13After reading some of your other comments kayala it's obvious you have very few IQ points to spare.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -8/+7How quaint. I'm sorry that facts and evidence scare you, but if you're that insecure in your faith in the first place, then perhaps not all hope is lost for you.
- ikbrooks, on 07/10/2008, -10/+14I would love to see the stats on those who actually knew Helms and Meredith and those who actually know or care to know kayala and see a list of their accomplishments. Helms an accomplished Senator who served his country for decades. Meredith, someone who came to know the man, respect his views and was fired "because he was became too right wing for Helms. Kayala - an angry insignificant with a keyboard that is in so much pain in her soul she is reduced to insulting any and everyone that disagrees with her with the spittle in the corners of her mouth and drooling on the keyboard as she bangs away at all us bible-thumpers because what we choose to believe. Sad.
Kayala when you accomplish half as much as Helms (and Meredith) and on their level then you truly will have a platform to vent your spleen. Until then you are just a God hating, angry, vile reprobate that is somewhat computer literate.
If Meredith came around to Helms point of view it may just be a possibiltiy that there was something about Helms aside from all the instances you listed above kayala that would make a black man with a totally different outlook on politics come full circle to see things even further from the right than Helms did.
After you interview him (Meredith) get back to us. I just sent an email for information to contact Mr. Meredith. I will continue to seek him out to see why he changed and what he believed before the change.- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -9/+6I hope I never "accomplish" half as much as Helms did. I could never rival his record of hatred and bigotry.
- ikbrooks, on 07/10/2008, -5/+6see below
- socialisthunter, on 07/10/2008, -6/+7and no one can rival your record of ignorance and stupidity.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -3/+5Oh socialisthunter, you mental three-year-old, it appears that your few neurons aren't firing today. Instead of simply calling me ignorant and stupid, why not present me with the good that Jesse Helms did? Show me some real Amurrican patriotism, not some racist old man with a bad attitude. Oh, that's right, you can't. Go crawl back under your rock, you braindead little pest.
- Barbary, on 07/10/2008, -7/+11Come on Kayala, humble yourself just a little bit. What are you doing on this site anyway?
- socialisthunter, on 07/10/2008, -6/+10her half bake brain keeps jumping from site to site.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -3/+6I belong to Digg as well. Are you suggesting I don't have just as much of a right to be here as you do?
- KCLorelei39, on 07/11/2008, -5/+2Kayala - how many times have you said to someone on Digg, "Go away, you're not wanted here"? with the usual accompanying assortment of junior-high level wit, of course....
don't be a hypocrite. What ARE you doing on this site, anyway?
troll away, perhaps you'll get enough attention, one day.... - kayala, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4Well, Lorelei, you are simply an arrogant little brat with a delusion to buck, so pardon me if I'm not terribly interested in the results of a neuron or two firing in your head. You'd have far more value on this site if you offered a fact once in a while, you know, tied yourself to the realm of reality. But as it stands, you're not interested in anything except your silly little imaginary friend, who apparently tells you that he likes his women crude, brainless and talkative. Try educating yourself a little bit, and then we'll talk.
- KCLorelei39, on 07/11/2008, -6/+2you, little girl, are a bigot in matters of faith.
lolol, you won't answer a simple direct question - have you ever had an abortion? - yet you troll the threads looking for the slightest hint that a person has faith in the Most High God, Elyon, so that you may tear that person down as part of your so-called "logical, rational" debates.
you have proven yourself repeatedly as a person incapable of self-control.
betcha a nickle you won't answer without some form of derogatory commentary. You're not bright enough to realize just how easy it is to rattle your cage, lol. - kayala, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5No, I have not had an abortion. Are you happy now?
- KCLorelei39, on 07/11/2008, -4/+2"Are you happy now?"
A disingenuously patronizing comment - where's my nickle?
p.s. I don't believe you. - kayala, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7I didn't ask you to believe me. I haven't had an abortion, and that fact does not change simply because your narrow little mind can't comprehend that maybe I advocate reproductive rights but haven't yet had the need to use one of those rights.
- KCLorelei39, on 07/11/2008, -5/+2Then it ought not to matter if I believe you or not - right?
I see....you're just keeping that door open for future use, are ya?
I suppose you view yourself as some kind of a champion of reproductive rights. Consider: Everyone has the 'right' to reproduce so long as his/her reproductive organs are in proper shape to do so. What you advocate is the 'right' to dodge the parent bullet. - kayala, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4Reproductive rights include the right to have access to birth control and an abortion, if they should become necessary. That's not a terribly difficult thing to understand, and yet you seem to have trouble wrapping your little mind around it.
Does your "God" give you points for being crude and bratty? - KCLorelei39, on 07/12/2008, -4/+2"Reproductive rights include the right to have access to birth control and an abortion, if they should become necessary."
exactly....that's the ability to dodge the parent bullet. I'm glad we agree on something.
Crude? what did I say that was crude? - kayala, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3To "dodge the parent bullet"? We have the medical capability now to decide when we want to become parents. Rather than having one's life paralyzed by the appearance of an unplanned child, we can make responsible decisions about when the time is right for us to have children. If you're not interested in using the medicines and techniques available, then don't use them, but you can't deny other women the right to this liberation.
- KCLorelei39, on 07/12/2008, -4/+2Rest assured, I have used the medicines and techniques available to avoid become a parent, back in the days when I thought only of myself.... been there, done that.
Why does my choice of words sting? Do you not care for the mental image my word picture brought to your mind?
Isn't that exactly what is going on? Don't like the word "Dodge"? How about... duck, avoid, evade, elude, sidestep, skirt, avert, circumvent, hedge, scheme, put off, shirk, bypass, escape, miss, eschew, shun. Pick any verb, the outcome is the same.
What is it that people are trying to escape from? Becoming a parent. Sex between a male and a female doesn't result in anyone else being unavoidably targeted for parenthood, now does it?
I've been pregnant 3 times. Never was my life "paralyzed by the appearance of unplanned child" (which is a purely hyperbolic description designed to evince panic, and sounds as if the stork dropped a baby from the sky, lol)
Only in the first instance did I believe the propaganda that my life was over were I to allow myself to become a parent.
And what was pitched to me as "freedom" and "liberation", very quickly became a heavy, seemingly inescapable prison of sorrow, guilt, and regrets.
My second pregnancy happened under similar circumstances as the first, only that time I faced all my fears....and guess what? My life wasn't over. Life went on, many caring people stepped up to help me during a difficult time that I brought upon myself - and as a result, I have had the blessing and privilege of parenting a beautiful daughter, one full of compassion and empathy for girls in just that situation.
I've been married to the father of that second "unplanned pregnancy" for going on 14 years now, and we had a second daughter. Yes, life is challenging at times. Parenting requires much personal sacrifice and putting everyone in the house before my own self-satisfaction.
I'm a much better person for it. I remember when I was .... well, like you, Kayala, and still I cringe when I think of how full of myself I once was.
The time is right to have a child when one becomes pregnant through voluntary participation in the the activities that cause pregnancy. If the time isn't right, cross your legs, exhibit self-control, and there's no need for all the drama about how "liberated" one can be, bleh. - kayala, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2Your choice of words, moron, is manipulative and does not tell the whole story. Not too different from most of the ***** you spew, to be fair. At least you acknowledge that parenthood is not always a positive and pleasant thing, the undertaking of which people should celebrate.
Like I said, you might have enjoyed your pregnancies (your invisible man in the sky does tell you that your only value as a person is to carry children), but not everybody does. You never seem to understand this fundamental concept: not everybody is like you. Some people are excited to get pregnant, and some don't want to get pregnant.
"And what was pitched to me as "freedom" and "liberation", very quickly became a heavy, seemingly inescapable prison of sorrow, guilt, and regrets."
If you felt sorrowful and guilty and regretful about choosing when was the right time for you to get pregnant, then you need your head checked. That invisible man's been messing with your mental health.
I feel bad for your poor children; it's likely they've already been indoctrinated into the same hatred and lies that you were. - KCLorelei39, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3ah, the usual fallback postition: attack my faith when reason escapes you.
I expect nothing less from a bigot. thank you for meeting my small expectation : ) - kayala, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3I'm sorry you're too narrow of mind to understand these very basic concepts. I'm done arguing with you, as you're more concerned about being a bitch than debating. Don't you have a Bible study or something to go to?
- KCLorelei39, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3nope, no Bible study until the morning. don't you have some wounds to lick, pup?
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -4/+4"I am perfectly humble to know that my holy book is right; now I'm going to go tell other people how wrong they are about living their lives. "
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4people are burying my comment without leaving a reply, I am a sad panda =(
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -9/+6I hope I never "accomplish" half as much as Helms did. I could never rival his record of hatred and bigotry.
- ikbrooks, on 07/10/2008, -7/+9p.s. That would be a great interview and the posts afterward would also be great. Much more interesting than your display here.
- Barbary, on 07/10/2008, -12/+12Take heart jb1965, the public schools do not have the monopoly on education. In every state of the union (even in California) dedicated parents homeschool their children. They are the hope of this country. They believe in God and memorize Scripture, they are patriotic, they reject Evolution for the lie that it is, they know that homosexuality is a perversion and they are getting an education studying many more days while the poor public school children are getting an indoctrination. So there is hope for some great men or women.
A new family of Coast Guard people, Dad, Mom and three little kids started attending our church. I introduced myself as a homeschooling grandma and sure enough Mom was full of questions about homeschooling her first-born and joining the local homeschool community. Birds of a feather...- Cate320, on 07/10/2008, -8/+9"They believe in God and memorize Scripture, they are patriotic, they reject Evolution for the lie that it is, they know that homosexuality is a perversion and they are getting an education studying many more days while the poor public school children are getting an indoctrination"
LOL! And you say public school children are being brainwashed. - lunchmeat316, on 07/10/2008, -5/+4If you believe any of those are false you've been indoctrinated. There is a creator God that gave us His word in inspired Scripture. What is wrong about patriotism? Macro evolution does not and could not ever happen (speciation - yes, molecules to man - no). Who could reasonably argue that homosexual behavior is not a perversion of the purpose for which sex was created?
- Cate320, on 07/10/2008, -3/+5No, I haven't been "indoctrinated". I was taught to think for myself, not spoon fed my parents beliefs until I would regurgitate them word for word. To be brainwashed means to be indoctrinated forcibly. What does that really sound more like to you? The public school system, where kids are taught to question everything (even their teachers) or the fundamentalists who would homeschool their children to make sure they aren't exposed to any thoughts but their own?
We don't know that there is a God. There could be, there might not be. And even if there is, how do we know God is the Christian God? There are so many different religions here on earth. *Someone* has to be wrong. How do you *know* that it isn't you? It is arrogance to believe that you personally hold all of the answers to the universe. The Bible was written by men. It could be inspired by God, or it could be just the rantings of crazy men. We'll never know.
That all depends on how you define Patriotism. I consider myself Patriotic in that I love my country and I'm proud of where I'm from. But I've also been accused of being "un-patriotic" just because I chose to study in another country. Some people take it to the extreme, like if being patriotic means "Lets be intolerant bigots, because we always have been, so why change?" Then no, I don't *want* to be patriotic.
Evolution is real - deal with it.
First of all, molecules to man - if by this you're referring to the creation of life from inorganic molecules (Abiogenesis) then you should realize that that isn't even part of evolutionary theory, and isn't required by it to be true. Also, there is much evidence for abiogenesis already and scientists *will* fill in the missing pieces.
If by "molecules to man" you mean you don't accept that we evolved from single celled organisms, then how do you accept speciation? There is nowhere you can clearly draw a line between what is "probable" and "impossible" since evolution produced a spectrum of all of the different organisms, not clearly defined boundaries.
Secondly, "Macro-evolution does not and could not ever happen" Oh really? Prove it to me. Just because you can't understand how something could happen, doesn't mean it didn't.
Sex wasn't created, sex evolved. There are many different species of animals that display homosexual behavior. It is entirely natural. There are reasons why homosexuality may have evolved, and why it persisted in the species. In some species, sex has been seen to not only serve the purpose of reproduction, but also social bonding (Most notably - Humans, chimpanzees, dolphins - any species that has sex for pleasure). Certainly in human culture, sex is used more for social bonding and pleasure than reproduction. There are few (if any) people that actually only have purely vaginal sex, only when the woman is ovulating and only when they want a baby. So by your logic, if reproduction is the "purpose for which sex was created", then almost everyone on earth would be "perverted". If, however, sex serves multiple functions (like it clearly does), social bonding being one of them, then homosexuals are no more perverted than anyone else. - Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -2/+6"We don't know that there is a God. There could be, there might not be. And even if there is, how do we know God is the Christian God? There are so many different religions here on earth. *Someone* has to be wrong. How do you *know* that it isn't you? It is arrogance to believe that you personally hold all of the answers to the universe. The Bible was written by men. OMG, don't you know they have FAITH!?!
"These militant atheist do their cause no favors." http://www.jesusandmo.net/2008/06/20/lake/ - lunchmeat316, on 07/11/2008, -2/+1Cate
Thank you for a reasoned response without name calling. I will strive to be equally respectful. There are many areas where we disagree, and I'm sure will continue to disagree. These are primarily areas where I have faith (the existence of God will never be proven or disproven on earth, but our collective opinions do not change the reality of whether or not He exists), and you feel science has conclusively resolved an issue, such as evolution. Recognizing that no one really changes any ones mind in these discussions I will at least try to explain a few of our differences.
"The public school system, where kids are taught to question everything (even their teachers) or the fundamentalists who would homeschool their children to make sure they aren't exposed to any thoughts but their own? "
I hope you can see the irony here. I believe many, most, or all homeschoolers at least acknowledge the existence of the theory of evolution, and I believe some teach it as fact. Why are so many in academia so opposed to even mentioning that some 'question' the validity of evolution?
Re: paragraph 2. There is little I can argue against objectively, faith is obviously subjective. However, don't confuse religion with faith. I believe religion is mostly man inspired or added to faith, and tends to put the emphasis on tradition or legalism rather than a relationship with God. As to which god is real, prayer to God, asking Him to reveal himself, and an honest effort to sort through the options will lead you to the right place. Of course that is my opinion and you probably disagree.
Regarding evolution. I believe you admit that the first one celled organism can not be explained at this time. I agree. However, I will point out that while we recognize and can accumulate all the 'stuff'' of life (you evidently know much about this) we can apply all of our intelligence and knowledge to this 'stuff' for years and not create life. We cannot even create plant life which I would think had to evolve prior to the first 1 cell organism so that it would have food. I find it highly improbable then that life happened simply by accident.
Since we know we exist, we search for an explanation. If your worldview rules out any interference or input from God or other supernatural means, then you have little choice but to believe in evolution. Therefore, any observable facts are interpreted within that framework and the theory grows and changes with each new fact that is discovered. If, however, your worldview is that God created everything according to it's kind, and gave us the Bible as His word, then the same observable facts are interpreted differently. No one disputes the hard facts, just the conclusions drawn from them.
Concerning speciation and upward evolution, no one can deny speciation within kinds. It is around us everywhere. I just don't see speciation which involves selecting or emphasizing certain existing characteristics while excluding or deemphasizing others, as having anything to do with adding new information into a population, and ultimately changing it into a different kind. The latter has not been observed, and is not present in the fossil record. Again, I am sure we view this differently.
I never understood how sex could suddenly evolve with male and female occurring simultaneously, but I guess with the right worldview, it is possible. I choose to say little concerning homosexuality. I really don't understand the temptation, and do not have a negative view on anyone who has that temptation. Private actions are also none of my business, each of us must ultimately account for our own actions.
I'm not sure what this has to do w/ Jesse Helms - Cate320, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3It doesn't really have anything to do with Jesse Helms. I apologize for going so offtopic. I just get a little sick of all the public school bashing that is done by certain people on Digg. I find it incredibly ironic that some say public school children are being brainwashed when it does seem evident to me that (some of) the homeschool proponents on these boards only want to homeschool their children so they aren't exposed to any outside "evil" influences.
As far as the "irony" in my statement. I think that comes from a failure to understand what exactly they teach in public schools with regard to evolution. Its been 10 years since I took basic high school biology but from memory, evolution was only touched on very generally. After all, they do have the entire rest of the subject to squeeze into those 180 school days. The reason that students aren't taught to question evolution is because the purpose of high school classes is to give the children a basic understanding of the general principles of the subject. IIRC, basically you are just taught the principles of Natural Selection. As far as evolution goes, there is really no question of it's validity at this most basic level. The "problems" in evolution (which really are not problems at all, just stuff that is still debated) require that you have a deeper understanding of the subject before they can be addressed. This isn't typically appropriate to bring into a basic science class, as the students would most likely just get confused.
Please don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-religion and I do not frown upon people with faith. I just am Agnostic in the general sense that I realize I can never know for sure if a deity (or deities) exist. I also grew up Catholic and can see the good that religion can do for a community. I certainly hope there is something more after all this, but I just can't have concrete faith in something that there is no evidence for. However, I am not one of those people that will tell you that you are wrong or silly for believing, because there is nothing to prove that opinion "right" either.
I would look up abiogenesis if you are interested in reading about how the first life could have been created "by accident". Keep in mind that the evidence of the first life on earth is 2 billion years old, which would leave another ~2.5 billion years for the "accident" of life to form.
I don't rule out God or supernatural interference. I just have no reason to believe in those things, since evolution can occur by natural means, and there is no evidence for God or supernatural interference. I could, perhaps, believe that God created the process of evolution and let it run its course.
The most commonly accepted way to determine whether or not something is a separate species from something else is whether or not they can produce viable offspring. That is all it takes - "reproductive isolation". Whether it be because their genitalia no longer fit together, the sperm is unable to fertilize the egg, mating seasons are different or the resulting offspring have reduced or no fertility or do not develop at all. Basically, anything that prevents them from reproducing successfully with each other.
This is relatively easy to achieve, especially since traits with a large role in reproduction - like genitalia shape - are very rapidly evolving traits. DNA duplication is not a perfect process. Considering how it is self replicating, i actually find it astounding how low the mutation rate is, but nevertheless, mutations DO occur. Mutation errors, in addition to merely copying something "wrong" can add new information when a sequence is accidentally repeated, or subtract information if something is missed. If that is what you mean by add new information? Also, species don't spontaneous "change type". It is a very gradual process, not something seen from one generation to the next. The offspring of organisms will only look minutely different from their parent generation, but over millions of years, all of those small changes can make a big difference. Remember 2 *billion* years to go from first life to what we see today. There ARE transitional fossils in the fossil record.
"Sex" does not necessarily mean sex as we know it in vertebrates. "Sex" in the genetic sense, only requires the exchange of genetic information. You do not necessarily need "male and female" for this to occur. Single celled organisms have "sex" just fine. Even in the animal kingdom, there are some hermaphroditic species (like some slugs). Also, many plant species are hermaphroditic.
I apologize again for going off topic, I didn't mean to, but I felt a compulsion to respond to your initial post ;) You seem like you are a refreshingly open minded guy (for these forums) and interested in the topic so I would suggest that you do some more research into it - even if it is just through Wikipedia.
Or you could try here: http://www.talkorigins.org
Thank you for the friendly debate. - lunchmeat316, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1Cate320 - For now we will remain of different opinions re: evolution. I will continue to study and will check out your suggestions.
The one point I would like to make is - the only reason I care about the Creation/evolution, young earth/ old earth debates is as follows. While it is possible to be saved (and many are) as a Christian and at the same time believe that God created in an old earth evolutionary manner, it is very difficult for someone to be saved if they believe in an unguided, accidental evolutionary history.
I can relate to the Catholic experience. Catholicism is a Christian religion (see my comment on religion above) that in my opinion gets in the way of a true relationship w/ God. This is not to insult or demean Catholic believers, just an opinion. I also went my own way as a youth, ignoring God for 20+ yrs until He made me acutely aware of my need for Him.
While the existence of God cannot be proven, and you do not accept Scripture as infallible, I do believe the Bible is correct in saying that God reveals Himself in our surroundings so that we have no excuse. Also you can experience and have a relationship with Him, but of course that is subjective. If you look you can find Him.
I appreciate the discussion
- Cate320, on 07/10/2008, -3/+5No, I haven't been "indoctrinated". I was taught to think for myself, not spoon fed my parents beliefs until I would regurgitate them word for word. To be brainwashed means to be indoctrinated forcibly. What does that really sound more like to you? The public school system, where kids are taught to question everything (even their teachers) or the fundamentalists who would homeschool their children to make sure they aren't exposed to any thoughts but their own?
- Cate320, on 07/10/2008, -8/+9"They believe in God and memorize Scripture, they are patriotic, they reject Evolution for the lie that it is, they know that homosexuality is a perversion and they are getting an education studying many more days while the poor public school children are getting an indoctrination"
- ikbrooks, on 07/10/2008, -8/+10Yet you continue to set your own records for arrogance, cruelty and rudeness to total strangers just because they/we have a different opinion than your own. You are among (many) friends judging by the support you receive from others commenting on your posts. No shortage of folks making appeals to you, and others like you, to cool or calm the rhetoric either. Yet that continues to be met by more arrogance and cruelty.
I am only an observer here and am far from perfect. Just a quick glance at my history will show I have made my stumbles and I am sure there will be more. A good humbling every once in a while is good for the soul and my soul is real good right now :) . You have yet to be brought low but that time is coming. It happens to us all and I am certain you are not immune to this eventuality.
Pride goeth before the fall, and a haughty spirit before destruction. Life will bear this out. It will be your choice whether you allow the lesson to be learned. Everyone will have their Damascus road experience in one form or another. You, too, will have that experience if you have not had one already. Pearls among swine? Time will tell.
Nite all. - socialisthunter, on 07/10/2008, -8/+9her half bake brain keeps jumping from site to site spewing her ignorance
- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -3/+7You mean Ann Coulter, right?
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -2/+5Oh, shut up. If you can't do more than spew insults and not even put them in the right place on the thread, you really don't need to be here. You can go crawl back under your rock now, ignorant fool.
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -5/+2Kayala, if you really believe "spewing insults" disqualifies someone from posting on these sites, maybe you should re-read the things you have written. You pretty much set the standard for hatred and insults.
"Kettle, hello there. This is the Pot calling to tell you you're too black." - kayala, on 07/10/2008, -1/+5Oh, I certainly do insult people when they declare to me that they need to be ridiculed. I do so, however, within the context of a well-supported argument; the instances of me actually posting "OMG SHUT UP U LIBRUL FAG LOVER" (or, I guess, the anti-conservative equivalent) are quite rare. I merely asked socialisthunter to 1. post comments on the relevant thread and 2. try actually making an argument instead of stupidly insulting people in a roundabout way of exposing his own ignorance. Note that I said he should not be on this site if he can't do any *more* than insult people. Insults within an argument are fine; insults with no context, not so much.
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -5/+2Kayala, if you really believe "spewing insults" disqualifies someone from posting on these sites, maybe you should re-read the things you have written. You pretty much set the standard for hatred and insults.
- MisterWonderful, on 07/10/2008, -10/+11Wow this thread is like a ***** Klan meeting.
Only Ann could come to the defence of a scumbag like Helms. Real classy.- Phyraxus, on 07/10/2008, -4/+6"I love the color of your skin!"
- viejoverde, on 07/10/2008, -7/+2another government indoctrinated serf
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -2/+8I wonder if people using the term "serf" have ever taken a class on European history and actually understand what a "serf" is. From the use I've seen so far, the answer is clearly no. It saddens me to see that these people don't bother to educate themselves before they spout the latest talking point they got from Fox News.
- StaticThunder, on 07/10/2008, -1/+8Yeah viejoverde, you're such an "intellectual rebel" to be protecting the name of such an abject bigot and tobacco industry shill. Hold on, lets have a quick prayer.
Praise be to Jesse Helms, righteous defender of the tobacco industry who in his wisdom declared the jury was still out on cigarettes causing cancer as he valiantly fought to keep subsidies and tax breaks for tobacco companies. Hail to his name in the highest, and lucre to his followers on earth.
- MadKennyP, on 07/10/2008, -6/+6Jesse Helms was nothing but a shameless RACIST. Good riddance to bad rubbish!
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -8/+7Funny how the same people who viciously attack Jesse Helms will rabidly defend racists like Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, and Jeremiah Wright.
What the heck, let's throw Senator Bird (D) in there as well.- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -3/+6Yeah, those poor white people are sooooo oppressed! We should do something to end their plight!
- lunchmeat316, on 07/10/2008, -6/+3So you're selective in your racism?
- whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -6/+3the point, lunchmeat, is, that the democrat leftists and the media are.
It's okay for those I listed above to spew their hatred for America every time they get in front of a microphone, but the fact that Jesse Helms used the word, "Negroes" back in the 70's and 80's means he should be burned at the stake. The left is blind to its own hypocrisy. - socialisthunter, on 07/10/2008, -6/+2no, she is just another moron than is allowed to vote.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -2/+4Good to see that there's no hatred from the people on this site :) (Talking to you, socialisthunter. Didn't your mother ever teach you manners?)
On to the racism crap. Lunchmeat, I'm not "selective" in my racism. I'm not racist. I hold no race to be better than another; in fact, I find the concept of "race" to be nothing more than an excuse to divide among otherwise equally valuable people.
2k, I actually do not support Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan or Jeremiah Wright, so your assertion falls flat on its face. I merely pointed out that while there is a definite history in America of brutal racism against African-Americans, there is no such history in America against people of European descent. There are still men and women alive who can testify to the humiliation of having to use the "colored" water fountain or go to a "colored" school.
Socialisthunter, grow up. This isn't preschool. We expect you to make real arguments, not stupidly insult people in a roundabout way of exposing your own lack of education. - whyknot2k, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2"Yeah, those poor white people are sooooo oppressed! We should do something to end their plight!"
Ever hear of Affirmative Action? - kayala, on 07/10/2008, -0/+32k, you'll forgive me if it turns out that you're not a white, Christian male - but for the sake of my point, we'll assume you are. When was the last time you were denied a scholarship because you were white? The last time you were denied a job because you were a man, or a Christian? White, Christian males have held ridiculous amounts of power throughout history - even your savior BillO and his disciple McCain affirm the "white, Christian, male power structure". I'd like to say that employers should be trusted not to make choices based on racism or sexism over actual qualifications for the job, but the sad fact is that we simply can't. "Land of the free" this is, but "land of institutionalized discrimination" this is not.
My questions stand, whenever you're ready to answer them. Tell me of a time when your race and sex were disqualifying factors in a competition (ostensibly) based on professional qualification.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -3/+6Yeah, those poor white people are sooooo oppressed! We should do something to end their plight!
- tedknutson, on 07/10/2008, -6/+5Kayala shows its true character when it must tear down others (a dead man; Ann the "witch" and "douchebag") to elevate itself. I doubt it is capable of a disagreeable, yet respectable, dialog.
Ignore it, and it shall crawl away.- socialisthunter, on 07/10/2008, -6/+4she is the reason we are in this mess, she and brain dead serfs like her are allowed to vote.
- kayala, on 07/10/2008, -2/+5Oh, I'd tear him down if he were still alive, just the same. Death doesn't protect him from having the horrible things he said publicized. I'm not "elevating" myself, but rather informing you sad folk. (I am a girl, by the way. I wonder if your use of the impersonal pronoun was more to imply that I am not human or a poorly executed attempt to avoid using a gender-specific pronoun.)
Socialisthunter might want to do a little research and find out what a serf actually is before he goes off on his silly rants. He might also want to consider the Constitutionality of only allowing people with opinions similar to his to vote. (My apologies if you're actually a girl.)
