The New Yorker was indeed satire...of moronic racists who believe every email they get about how bad Barrack Husein Obama is, and who believe the nonsense spewed by Rush, Sean and Bill-o. The idea that this was satire proves that he has no idea what satire really is. This is racist, sensationalist,and plays to people's deepest fears. He claims he hoped to begin a dialogue. Sure. But I don't think plans on voting him out of office was what he had in mind.

The "lady" on the phone tried to explain that it was "satire' - as I pointed out to her that for many her constituents IT WILL BE SEEN AS THE TRUTH... I must say I didn't like the New Yorker cover. Had the New Yorker been as ruthless and biting with Bush and Cheney, with equally inflammatory covers, I would let it pass as fair for goose is fair for the gander BUT I DON'T RECALL ANY New Yorker cover criticizing Bush and it causing such a sensation..

transcendsmas, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5This is outrageous! The caller was right "we are still fighting the civil war." I would add we are fighting a bigger war that of "Racism." Racism is a parasite in our world not just the U.S. But we have to start changing one person at a time. I strongly believe the Racist are outnumbered in our society. Many who hold the belief that "slavery was good for black people" as stated by Pat Buchanan are dying off. There grand children and great grand children are being educated to live in a global society. The global society is majority people of color unlike the U.S. Our children can no longer afford to ingest Racism and hope to function in the world. Many of them have just reached voting age and are registering by the thousands. We have the can of RAID to kill Racism it is "Hope", exposure to different cultures, dialogue, and a President who has multiculturalism in his blood. And that is "Change We Can Believe In."
