The Duke lacrosse case turned me from a typical left-winger into a right-leaning race realist. I followed the case very closely, and was appalled at the hatred white liberals and non-whites had towards these players, even after it was obvious they were innocent. It made me realize that liberals and non-whites view justice very differently than I do, and I couldn't support them any longer.
To the liberals and non-whites, this was never about establishing what truly happened in that house that night. If it was, they would have supported Reade Seligmann from the start. Timestamped photographs, phone logs, and ATM surveillance video showed conclusively that Reade Seligmann could not have raped Crystal Magnum, not to mention the fact that all his friends, family, teammates, and members of his hometown community came to his defense and said there was no way Reade could have committed such a crime. Instead, the liberals and non-whites were unanimous in their support for black prostitute with a history of mental illness who had made a previous allegation of gang-rape which she never followed through with. And they continued to support her after all of this was known.
To them, this case was about collective guilt, and white innocence would mean black guilt, so even as the evidence of a hoax piled up they refused to accept the possibility these players could be innocent. Liberals and non-whites wanted to ruin these three men's lives by sending them to jail for 30 years (a likely death sentence, given the racially charged nature of the case), even after it was obvious they were factually innocent, in an effort to atone for the sins of whites in the past. Realist3, I would continue to point to the Duke case at every opportunity. In my opinion, this case is our best recruiting tool.
