30,000 Felons Illegally Registered to Vote in Florida...
sun-sentinel.com — More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential battleground state

- photonics, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3whats sad about this isn't really the fact that the election staff aren't able to properly enforce these laws but that the US, supposedly the leader of the free world, doesn't even have universal suffrage

- primaldefense, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4This article has been a big help for me to show that yes both sides do have voter fraud occuring but in the majority of press releases and news articles on these occurences, Democrats always outnumber Republicans in the number of Illegal votes.
- lonelymiddle1, on 10/13/2008, -3/+3So...the fact that there are more Democrats justifies the illegal Republican felons? I don't get your purpose here except to put a point on the scoreboard in some imaginary game. This isn't sport, it's the political process, and partisan hacks like this only perpetuate the moronic dialogue in this country.
- Ymeg, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4He never said that it did.
Nice straw man, though. - lonelymiddle1, on 10/17/2008, -0/+0Reading comprehension?: "in the majority of press releases and news articles on these occurences, Democrats always outnumber Republicans in the number of Illegal votes."
Diggers are always so clever with their use of logical fallacies! Even when it doesn't even make sense! I'm not misrepresenting his argument. His response was that more Democrats engage in voter fraud, which by the way is hardly a given, and my response is that it doesn't matter which side of the game does it more. They should both be punished.
Nice condescention, though, dick.

- knucklebusted, on 10/13/2008, -3/+10Yes, they are already used to living under the handout plan with a government provided "apartment" to live in.
- ZurMacht, on 10/13/2008, -3/+3It has nothing to do with socialism, it has to do with race. Yeah I said it.. sorry, but the fact is most felons are black and most people who are black vote democrat.
- exgop, on 10/14/2008, -3/+1When it comes to racism, more blacks are voting for Obama simply because he is black, versus whites who are voting against him because he is black. I pray America will have a black president one day but not that Commie loving, Muslim appeasing Socialist Obama.

- InRussetShadows, on 10/12/2008, -5/+34Now this is rather shocking, coming from the Sun Sentinel of all places, hardly a favorite for honest or fair reporting. "The Division of Elections has a backlog of more than 108,000 possible felons who have registered to vote since January 2006 that it hasn't had the time or staff to verify. Browning estimated that about 10 percent, once checked, would be ineligible."

So because Florida can't adequately fund their elections means that GOP crimes are excused?

The list goes on and on...
Meanwhile...The Obama advocates in the mainstream media continue to ignore this stuff completely and instead remind us over and over about Troopergate and that voting for McCain is racist. Huffington Post = NBC CBS ABC PBS NYT WASH POST AP REUTERS- Shabonkerz, on 10/13/2008, -5/+3Meanwhile, it was a democratic official that found it to be fraudulent. Additionally, ACORN flagged the forms as suspicious.
No one is saying that voting for McCain is racist, although a lot would say that it is stupid. Almost everyone is saying, except hardcore McCain supporters of course, that at least some supporters of McCain are, and have shown to be racist and that McCain and Palin do little to quelch the said racism and ignorance from spreading in their rallies. It seems, from the video evidence I have observed, that facts are of little value within McCain's rallies. I commend McCain for correcting that 75 year old lady though. I don't think it is nearly enough, but it is a small step in the right direction for McCain.- zelig, on 10/13/2008, -3/+6I remember specifically Obama telling his supporters to "get in the face" of Republicans. Of course there are racists in both parties. But for the press to start pointing to McCain supporters and calling them racist tells me two things: The press are mostly Democrat ( roughly 87%) and that they are using the written word and television to get their candidate elected. Have you seen the vitriol leveled against Republicans here on digg and elsewhere? Have you seen the film about Bush 's "assassination" or the myriad films, newspapers, television stories put forth by the MSM and others in the Democrat party to tarnish the GOP?
Not agreeing with, and not voting or intending to vote for a black man does not in itself make that voter prejudice against the whole race. If Obama was a Republican and shared their ideology, I am quite sure he would get the GOP vote.
And BTW, yes, a black man in the Presidential race is very good- but where's all that praise for Condi Rice? She has be vilified and called "a female Uncle Tom" and worse. She is the first African American Secretary of State in History!! But the left hates her!! Care to reply? - isamuelson, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7Zelig, the reason Condi Rice is vilified is because she's a Republican. If she was a Democrat, they'd be praising her left and right.
For example, if you're rich and your a Conservative, you're a mean, greedy person. If you're a Liberal, then you're a successful person.
There's more double standards like this, such as if you're smart and have a PhD. If you're a Conservative, then you're a snob. If you're Liberal, then you've worked hard and pulled yourself up from the bottom.
Beginning to see a pattern here? It's amazing how Liberals consider themselves "elite", which is more snobbish than anything. Hypocrites. - Shabonkerz, on 10/14/2008, -1/+1Zelig, to "get in the face" means what? To present an opposing view to a party of like-minded persons of a different view? I don't see how that translates into racism.
As for Digg being a "liberal" news media, it is a user-generated news site, and it is only as liberal its users. There are other sites that have a more conservative base, and they attract like-minded people, and sites like these diverge and pigeon-hole ideas into an echo chamber. This is a common and important problem, but it is not one that pertains to only liberal media on the internet. Similar can be said of TV media. Fox News attracts conservative viewers because it presents a conservative view, and likewise for all other media, and to keep said viewers, they keep presenting said views and it perpetuates. Now of course, if someone with a blank slate began watching a random channel, then said person is more likely to regurgitate the same talking points that they have heard, or the same rumors or fact-checking, and so forth. This is a problem, and an important one, but to imply that we must moderate media on what ideological filter they run their news through is to suggest that we limit the freedom of expression when no other freedoms have been violated. That I cannot support.
Not voting for a black man in and of itself is not racist, but not voting for a black man because he is black, is, however, considered racist. Of course, admitting that one is a racist is difficult to defend, and brings about an onslaught of social damage, thus those who hold such racist views do not admit, but rather find another reason to be against the black man, even if such a reason is outlandish and indefensible itself, it will not bring about the shame that being a racist brings, they'll just be considered stupid instead. That they can live with, especially when surrounded and reinforced by other like-minded people.
Liberals don't like Condi Rice because she is a conservative and tied to George Bush. Her actual political views are much left unknown because of her position within the government, but we'd assume a George Bush copycat in that regard until they are published. If she turned out to be Ron Paul in the form of a black woman, you might find a lot of liberals supporting her.
Having a PhD and being a smart don't always go together considering the ease of obtaining a PhD these days. Additionally, having a PhD doesn't qualify a person to educate in every field. Having a PhD in Computer Science does not mean you'd be able to teach a course in biology, chemistry, or business. That said, I know some intelligent conservatives such as Christopher Hitchens. I don't see him as a snob. Being a snob is entirely disjointed from being a conservative with a PhD.
I don't see your pattern. Sorry.
- zelig, on 10/13/2008, -3/+6I remember specifically Obama telling his supporters to "get in the face" of Republicans. Of course there are racists in both parties. - whoreable, on 10/13/2008, -4/+2I live in South Florida where the election was stolen. The recount that never happened. The state where Bush's brother just happened to be the Governor. I mean that the Dems are expecting the Republicans to cheat again so they are cheating also.
- aadyss, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3Yada, Yada, Yada...stolen, racist...blah, blah, blah.....
If, as a white man I vote for McCain, I'm a racist. If, as a black man, I vote for Obama, I'm a visionary.
ACORN says the blame for fraudulent voter registrations is the fault of their workers...What?? I guess they don't believe in Truman's ...."the buck stops here." They use the childish age old.."it's not MY fault." - randf, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3speaking of inconvenient truths...there was a recount after the fact that disproves the "stolen election" urban legend, carried out by the media--hardly Republican/Bush fans:
After the election, USA Today, The Miami Herald, and Knight Ridder commissioned accounting firm BDO Seidman to count undervotes, that is, ballots which did not register any vote when counted by machine. BDO Seidman's results, reported in USA Today, show that under the strictest standard, where only a cleanly punched ballot with a fully removed chad was counted, Gore won by three votes.[20] Under all other standards, Bush won, with Bush's margin increasing as looser standards were used. The standards considered by BDO Seidman were:
* Lenient standard. Any alteration in a chad, ranging from a dimple to a full punch, counts as a vote. By this standard, Bush won by 1,665 votes.
* Palm Beach standard. A dimple is counted as a vote if other races on the same ballot show dimples as well. By this standard, Bush won by 884 votes.
* Two-corner standard. A chad with two or more corners removed is counted as a vote. This is the most common standard in use. By this standard, Bush won by 363 votes.
* Strict standard. Only a fully removed chad counts as a vote. By this standard, Gore won by 3 votes.
only in one potential methodology did gore win. stolen election...puh-leeze...

- Nicholutso, on 10/13/2008, -8/+3well, there are bound to be more issues with registered voters WHEN YOUR PARTY ACTUALLY TRIES TO REGISTER PEOPLE AND THEY TURN OUT IN THE MILLIONS TO SUPPORT YOU! HA HA! I find (having worked on a political campaign) that the media makes all kinds of things sound nefarious, but in point of fact, most of these issues are incompetence by overzealous individuals. The organizations who are trying to register people do need more and better oversight, but with both parties I make it a point to always assume it was one douchebag who screwed up rather than some grand conspiracy.
- whoreable, on 10/13/2008, -6/+1If they turn me away for the election I will be pissed. I have been following it for over a year now.
- Nicholutso, on 10/13/2008, -8/+5Additionally, if we're going to talk about voter fraud, let me remind you that a false registration is only a problem if fictional people show up and vote on election day. Several states don't even have voter registration. You just show up and say, "I'm so and so and I'm voting for that guy" and they count it.
Its voter CAGING, or not counting people's votes on election day that is the real 4000 pound gorilla in the oval office that conservative groups love to go after. Lets talk about the 130,000 people in Florida last election who were told to go home on election day because they had names, "SIMILAR" to convicted felons. Preachers and school teachers who had done nothing wrong but have the misfortune of being named, "jesse brown" - dw4prez, on 10/13/2008, -2/+16criminals in Florida, illegals in New Mexico, and fake absentee in Ohio. - exgop, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3Your ***** stupid, they lose their privilege to vote. Voting is not a right its a privilege.
- jprewitt7, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2Lets not call names now. Voting is a right though not a privilege. I don't think it says anywhere in the constitution that felons should not have the right to vote. Plus if a felon is out of jail that means that they have served their time and shouldn't be punished anymore, especially if that that punishment is loosing their right to vote.
- Darren07, on 10/13/2008, -4/+6Most of them will vote Obama, so why is this a problem on a site like Digg?
- professor357, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7ACORN targets felons, the homeless, welfare recipients [in the welfare offices, no less], and blacks. Are they interested in bipartisan voter registrations? Heck, no. They are taking public money for "bipartisan" voter registration, then providing the country with voters predisposed to vote for Obama. That sounds like a felony for misuse of public funds.
- skmckinny, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7Socialism is not (easily) reversible. See how Russia is suffering it. Please take note.
- jprewitt7, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1And please take note of how our economy is suffering right now. I am not saying that our economy is worse then Russia's because that would be a retarded statement but our economy is suffering and it is because of deregulation. Socialism does not work (and it also is not proposed by Barack Obama) but pure capitalism does not work either. A mixed economy is the way to go, everything is not black and white.
- PaulfromPedro, on 10/13/2008, -6/+1So the opposite of what happened in 2000? When people with names and SSNs similar to those of convicted felons were denied access to the polls allowing Bush to win Florida and usher in the darkest 8 years in US history?
- Lord1Loki, on 10/13/2008, -2/+2Didn't Florida return the voting rights of felons last year?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-04-05-flo ... - DocOctavius, on 10/13/2008, -3/+3It's funny, because my uncle is an ex convict who out of curiousity tried to register, and was unable. I think they're just desparately trying to make a big deal out of nothing. Voter registration is always full of mistakes, and that's why there's people to weed them out- that's why we're hearing about it is the weeding out process, just like ACORN. The only reason we know about the registration problems is because the administrators at ACORN flagged the bad reg tickets as possibly bad. It's all a big ***** conspiracy theory put together to smear Obama.
- ZurMacht, on 10/13/2008, -3/+2All this ***** rhetoric needs to go. Socialism this and Liberal that, its not easy to take any of you seriously (even when you are correct) when you throw around buzzwords to try and make it seem like you're on higher ground.
Yeah we know Obama's financial stances suck, almost everyone on digg would agree, the problem is our choices. Most people (including myself) are voting for what we believe is the "lesser of two evils".
Digg me down and call me a socialist or liberal if you wan't, but I've had enough of the ***** from both party lines. - highlymodified, on 10/13/2008, -4/+2Uh, hello? Anyone home?
Being a felon doesn't automatically strip your ability to vote. It is highly dependent on state law...
and in Florida MOST FELONS CAN VOTE.

Just end all the whining. After the last election being actually stolen, don't cry foul when Obama wins fair and square. Republicans had 8 years to fulfill their promises, and we're now so ***** it'll take years to undo the damage. But I'm sure you'll all be around to blame it all on those evil commie gay muslim unpatriotic heathen Democrats when Bush's policies eventually collapse the economy. - dialup56k, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3it's the shawshank election!
