Anti-Lieberman Group Delivering 43,000 Signatures To Senate
huffingtonpost.com — Wednesday morning, Brave New Films and its allies will deliver a petition with over 43,000 names to selected members of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee, asking them to strip Senator Joe Lieberman of his rank and committee chairmanship when the 111th Congress takes its seats in 2009.

http://liebermanmustgo.com/- sanman, on 07/09/2008, -21/+14He's still winning the elections, and that's what counts. The shrill minority can gather whatever signatures they'd like, but it's the ballotbox that counts. The Left is always interested in short-circuiting and bypassing democratic processes. This is like the Ron Paul thing -- you can be as loud and as shrill as you want, but if when all is said and done you're only getting 10% of the vote, then all your ruckus was just your self-conflated opinions of yourselves.
- MorganMghee, on 07/09/2008, -7/+17RTA, they're not taking away his seat, they're 'stripping Senator Joe Lieberman of his rank and committee chairmanship when the 111th Congress takes its seats in 2009.' The committee voted him in and they can vote him out.

- arpad, on 07/09/2008, -13/+9Har! Maybe they'll try to strip Obama of any of his assignments as well. As fast as he's moving to the right he'll be to the right of Lieberman and McCain before the middle of the month.
Hey, here's an idea! Maybe the loony left can run an ideologically pure primary candidate against Obama when he runs for his Senate seat again after losing to McCain.
Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face to convince people to stop taking you seriously. - freebird09, on 07/09/2008, -5/+2I dislike this guy as much as anyone else here, but somehow I don't think that's a high enough number.

- sportsstar67, on 07/09/2008, -9/+27Petitions are as useless as Youtube and Digg..This will never happen..These folks are smoking Dope !
- bababoosh, on 07/09/2008, -10/+9Not quite. Email petitions are next to useless and rarely accomplish the change for which they are created. It is far too easy to generate fake names and email addresses and I doubt that the Senate is going to take the time to verify any of the names added.
That being said, signed paper petitions are very powerful, as they are much more difficult and time consuming to make and fake. Not to mention the power of their tangibility.
Internet petitions are generally just a way for someone to feel like an activist and like they are doing something useful. So by "virtually" starting a petition they, typically, will accomplish virtually nothing. Believe it or not, in this age the most useful forms of civil protest are the old fashioned forms.- sportsstar67, on 07/09/2008, -3/+1NO, they are relatively useless....Pelosi got one with 1 and a half million signatures to impeach Bush and yet the little ***** is still on his throne...Lieberman is safe on this one
- bababoosh, on 07/09/2008, -3/+1That has little to do with the overall efficacy of civil protest and more to do with corruption. In that particular case, congress felt that it would do more harm than good to impeach Bush (for whatever reason). But we are in agreement about Lieberman being safe on this one.
Paper petitions on state and local levels are much more effective. Email and other internet style petitions are almost completely useless and do little more than make the signers feel good.
- bababoosh, on 07/09/2008, -10/+9Not quite. Email petitions are next to useless and rarely accomplish the change for which they are created. It is far too easy to generate fake names and email addresses and I doubt that the Senate is going to take the time to verify any of the names added.

I think we need a A.I super duper quantum computer to be the 3 branches of u.s government no more corruption or the terminator is gonna get you.
- charlietuna, on 07/09/2008, -5/+3Pal, you don't have enough posse here to dig you up. I see it though, Lieberman is very much a Netanyahu style hawk. I'll skip the rule by president Executron however. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGxdgNJ_lZM
- DaDrake, on 07/09/2008, -3/+5McCarthy would be proud of you dalexandruz.
- Seldon2639, on 07/09/2008, -13/+7That would work pretty well if we pick up more seats in the senate. If the senate stays the way it is, he's going to have us over a barrel. Assuming it stays 49 - 51 with Lieberman, we still need him to maintain the majority (unless Obama wins, in which case we would have a one-vote majority either way). If he defects to the Republicans, and McCain wins, under the current split in the senate, that would not only destroy our majority, it would oust the president pro tem, and remove our ability to determine committee chairmanships (which are always held by the majority)
I'm all for symbolic gestures, but this would appear to the voters to be little more than a political disagreement (remember that he won his state despite voting for the Iraq war and losing the Democratic primary). It's probably a little late to be calling in party loyalty, seeing as we tried to boot him from his seat. I'd bet that he wins the election running as an independent (again), and then would have even *less* reason to help us out
I'm not supporting him, just saying that for the foreseeable future, we need him, not to mention that the party did screw him first.- arpad, on 07/09/2008, -2/+10Look at some of the comments to get a feel for the temper of your idealogical brethren.
Running an ideologically pure primary opponent against Lieberman was a pretty stupid thing to do. What made it a truly idiotic plan was losing the election to him.
Now the Daily Kos crowd is revealed as both intemperate and incompetent. Not a great combination if you expect to maintain political influence. About the only arrow left in their quiver is having some uber-rich types like George Soros and Andrew McKelvey on their side and even those guys have signaled that they won't continue to ladle out money without some results, evidence the withdrawal of their support for the anti-gun movement.
I figure even those rich lefties will get tired of the hysterical antics of liebermanmustgo.com crowd and start to put less money into those organizations. You don't get to be a billionaire by throwing good money after bad.
- arpad, on 07/09/2008, -2/+10Look at some of the comments to get a feel for the temper of your idealogical brethren.
- digbird, on 07/09/2008, -10/+14The Democrats won't do this for the same reason the Republicans wouldn't do something similar to Chuck Hagel. Which is to say, they need Lieberman's vote on a lot of issues that he can be counted on to vote Democrat.
Another reason why they won't do something like this is that it would mightily annoy the voters of Connecticut (who quite resoundingly returned him to office in 2006). Lieberman is a very senior Senator and that gives Connecticut more political pull than such a small state might normally have. Stripping him of his committee assignments might give McCain an advantage in Connecticut in November 2008.- snoogit, on 07/09/2008, -8/+5I remember that the Connecticut dems were willing to oust Liebermann out as well. Or do we forget that Ned Lamont was selected in the Conn. Democratic Primary?
- toekneebullard, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4I'm glad someone said this. He was voted in. If you don't like him, move to Connecticut and vote him out.
- Elranzer, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Connecticut gave us Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton and George W Bush. I say they be stripped of their "seniority" in government.
- IPublius, on 07/09/2008, -3/+31Lieberman is an Independent, not a Democrat. They already dropped him during his re-election campaign and he won anyway. I'm not sure how you strip an Independent of his Democrat title exactly, but it could be interesting to watch.
- TheInformer, on 07/09/2008, -0/+15He was dropped as the Democratic contender for his seat longer ago than the length of an episode of American Idol, therefore your comment is beyond the attention span of many people.
- pintomp3, on 07/09/2008, -6/+1Independent Democrat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lieberman- IPublius, on 07/09/2008, -2/+4Still not part of the Democratic Party. He has not relabeled himself as a Democrat. he's an Independent who works closely with the Democrats.
- infodoc1, on 07/09/2008, -6/+3He is still a leader in the Democratic Caucus... the petition is asking to strip him of this position.
- pinab, on 07/09/2008, -12/+9He was voted in..... no way a petition will work.
He'll have to be voted out. - Jeremyz0r, on 07/09/2008, -14/+9Americans are stepping up to take down a/all Bush Admin. follower/s?

- shauncorleone, on 07/09/2008, -12/+24Oh you people are hilarious, and not just because of the cute petition. If Lieberman held to the exact same principles and still had the "D" next to his name, you would feel completely differently about him. You think it's trendy to follow Obama and you'd follow any other hack in his party, including the great "leader" Pelosi and real traitors like Murtha.
How the Democrats even "dropped" him is beyond me. That would require having some kind of principles for him to violate in the first place. - proliance, on 07/09/2008, -16/+26Just more proof that the Democrats don't allow independent thought.
- riseabove, on 07/09/2008, -8/+4right, because anybody that excercises their independent thought is an america-hating terris right?
- crackberri, on 07/09/2008, -11/+14Why am I not shocked that Democrats are eating their own. Our country would be better off if they were worm food…………
- getjustin, on 07/09/2008, -15/+3I still don't know what anyone has even seen in this man. His record is middle of the road with a slight right lean, he's from a tiny, near powerless state and has the personality of a moistened maxi pad. His similarity to Droopy Dog is actually quite astounding.
- amightywind, on 07/09/2008, -11/+15It shouldn't be hard to round up 43,000 liberal hatchetmen. So what? Washington is crawling with them. They are powerless. He serves at the pleasure of Connecticut voters who like his maverick spirit. The liberals have another chance in 4 years. I look forward to his speech at the Republican Convention.
- soinie, on 07/09/2008, -15/+8It's time for Lieberman to register as an agent of the government of Israel.
- mmmmmbiscuits, on 07/09/2008, -8/+12Time for you to go outside and wait for the school bus, isn't it?
- soinie, on 07/09/2008, -7/+3You neocons are under every rock and dog turd.
- wkenri, on 07/09/2008, -7/+1Lieberman is a zionist whose only interest is that of Israel and its expansion and the genocide of the Palestinian people and a US attack on the sovereign state of Iran at the behest of Israel. He has no place in our government. If he wants to push the Israeli agenda, then the poster is correct in stating perhaps he should register as an agent of a foreign government.
- DaDrake, on 07/09/2008, -2/+6Not the school bus.... the short bus.
- wkenri, on 07/09/2008, -7/+1The only bus your mom will let you ride.
- mmmmmbiscuits, on 07/09/2008, -8/+12Time for you to go outside and wait for the school bus, isn't it?
- Lamadave222, on 07/09/2008, -8/+11The People's Socialist Demokrat party will do nothing about Lieberman. If they don't count independents as Demokrat but as Republican then they would have to talk about sharing chairmanships with the Republicans and since the only thing the Dems are interested in is naked governmental power for self-aggrandisement, they can't have that. The continuous ad hominem attacks on McCain may suggest that, as always, the Dems can't actually run on their belief system because their philosophy is anti-capitalist and pro-socialist. Veterans have always had complaints about post-service treatment and they are probably correct in their complaints but I hope they do not confuse speechafying by someone whose disdain for the military is palpable with actual concern. Really, Barry could give a crap as long as you vote him into office. You don't think his position on veteran's affairs might evolve once he has power? Sell now while you are still allowed to make a profit.
- linas199, on 07/09/2008, -16/+9This is antisemitism in its purest form. Be ashamed America.
- Moonkeeper, on 07/09/2008, -7/+13I fail to understand the hatred towards Lieberman by the dems. Outside of Iraq he votes with the dems nearly every time.
- charlietuna, on 07/09/2008, -12/+4I see, yes It's not like ths Iraq policy maimed and killed young US Marines and Soldiers needlessly, or all that good will toward the US was squandered shoving US unilateralism down the throat of the international community.
- mcquitty, on 07/09/2008, -4/+13Not only that, he votes with the democrats percentage-wise more than some other democrats. So, why is he demonized? Why aren't the others demonized as well?
- ender7074, on 07/09/2008, -4/+8Because its the trendy thing to not like Liberman. Just like the Obamanations that drool over his every word. The minute its not the trendy thing to do, both will go back to being ignored.
- Evilena, on 07/09/2008, -5/+2There are lots of examples of Joe Lieberman as a republican in drag. For the last 20 years Lieberman has been the most anti-video game senator in Washington and Lieberman is anti-free speech in general .
Lieberman "held the first hearings on the threat posed to children by video game violence"
That is enough to hate him regardless of his apocalyptic foreign policy views.- ieee, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0I can't believe you were dugg down for this. I'm digging you up by one. Screw the folks who are offended by the truth.
- truck87bp, on 07/09/2008, -9/+1I tend to think that this is only the start of something bigger that will become common place by each State in the Union that will demand the Expulsion of Elected officials that don't do their job as they were elected. The American people are finally sick and tired of these gold diggers. Instead of neighborhood watch will will have neighborhood petitioner collectors to act as a total team. We've all been taught how to be good team players and now we may see it in action.
- stanleyford, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7"I tend to think that this is only the start of something bigger...that will demand the Expulsion of Elected officials that don't do their job as they were elected." -- We've had that for a long time. It's called an election. The fact that Lieberman keeps getting re-elected tells me that, if no one else, at least his constituents think he's doing his job.
- 55mph, on 07/09/2008, -11/+4where do i sign ?
Lieberman is neo-con pretending to be a Democrat. He can't wait for us to attack Iran. WMD's? OIL!! I just wish they would go beyond the point of no return and into oblivion.

- tony979, on 07/09/2008, -1/+9Here we go again, the politicians are fighting among themselves instead of trying to solve problems that this country is facing. Get with it congressmen, do something constructive. I think it is time to replace everyone in congress with new blood. lets not reelect anyone that is in office now and get new people that might do something instead of trying to get re-elected. I am fed up with the lot of them.
- AgainstObama, on 07/09/2008, -3/+10If you don't agree with the radical left-wing views, you can't speak!
- tony979, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6amen to that. get rid of all of them and get new blood

- chipwalker, on 07/09/2008, -5/+7Obviously this will get me dug down, but here goes anyway since all the wacked out right wing liberal ***** on digg just makes me boil.
The democratic party is a joke and Lieberman realizes this. It's a shame that the party has no real direction, but i guess doing nothing makes it easier to point the finger. Keep up the good work investigating steroids in baseball dems and lets bring obama in so we can socialize everything. We may have to increase taxes and the size of the fed in order to maintain these programs, but thats a good thing right? Wait I got a much better idea, lets tax the ***** out of people who are successful and make a good living, obviously they are the ones who should be punished. F.CK OFF- sphoony, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5I think you mean 'left wing liberal' not 'right wing liberal'.
- j37hr0, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Steroids in baseball is an FBI and justice department investigation. The congressional hearings on it were done by the House Oversight Committee, not the Senate. Taxation isn't a punishment. In order to have a government where property rights are defended by the government taxes are required to fund the government to protect those precious property rights in the form of national defense and security, and law enforcement. Are you still with me Mr. Boortz? OK, so the people with more property, have a higher obligation to pay for those government services than those with less property. Why should those with less or no property pay for the defense of the property of those who have a greater share?
- mochaman, on 07/09/2008, -7/+3 The fact that Lieberman hasn't been removed from the caucus is an indication that the U.S senate does not stand on principles but rather is like good old boys network.
- bigjimslade, on 07/09/2008, -5/+7

Hey! A petition! A novel idea. Maybe they'll deliver another one that demands chocolate milk for lunch. - pbroker, on 07/09/2008, -7/+1Lieberman, who never had a problem sending an American to fight a war for Israel, why would we want to get rid of him?
- wkenri, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0When Lieberman realized that Gore politically would not stand for sending Americans to die for Israel in Iraq, he back handed the campaign and helped Bush win the election. If it crawls like a snake it probably is a snake.
- infodoc1, on 07/09/2008, -7/+2Lieberworm needs to retire to the nursing home already.
- homescrubb, on 07/09/2008, -2/+6oh democrats... wont you ever man up?
please? - Roger_Ramjet, on 07/09/2008, -2/+3Sour grapes. If you wanted him out, you probably should've, oh, I don't know, maybe defeated him in the election?
- jbrand45, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Get rid of Lieberman sounds like a great idea, right? Supporting President Bush? That's insane, right? Of course it is. Endorsing John McCain, a Republican lap-dog? Disgusting! While I would like to agree with the article. I really would . . . I can't.
I just simply cannot agree with this article. Just because he is making the poor judgement of aligning himself with John McCain, Democrats shouldn't be so quick to jump to this kind of action. As the article quotes, "'Americans are tired of this type of old, petty, partisan politics. Sen. Lieberman will continue to put the country's interests before partisan interests.'" Aren't we supposed to be glad this type of thing happens? Reaching across the aisle, working with our traditional opponents to better this nation and the lives of its citizens.
The problem, it would appear, would be does Lieberman, and by extension McCain, really have "the country's interests" in mind with what they do? That's a hard point to argue, at least influentially. People are going to have their own opinions, all backed up by their perspective of the facts. The point is, we have to assume that they, being elected representatives of the people, do in fact have our best interests in mind. As much as it pains me to say it, there is no real evidence that they have committed any sort of crimes (with maybe the exception of McCain's home tax problems) for which any removal of rank should honestly be considered.
It's not hard to figure out why Lieberman is teaming up with McCain; he, despite being a Democrat, feels that McCain will be the next President. He is aligning himself in hopes of incurring favor, perhaps a VP spot, or at least somewhere in the Cabinet. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, and has been repeatedly done, uncounted times, throughout history. It's the Art of Politics.
Like I've said earlier, the kinds of things that this article is denouncing Lieberman for doing are really things that should be applauded when taken at face value: supporting your President even though he's not of your political persuasion and supporting a candidate for the Presidency who has more experience and influence where it's needed even though he's not of your political persuasion.
Let's just hope more of this cross-aisle support continues on bigger levels, but perhaps with a little less controversy from here on out. - Rich711, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1Proof that liberals are the real fascists. It's called democracy. Or are we supposed to change all our laws for any film maker that shows up with 43,000 signatures. There was that many against gay marriage in California, there was even a proposition passed. More than 43,000 people believed in Y2K, should we have passed a law to ground all air travel and shut down all reactors? Heck, when I see what the left wants to do about "global warming" I don't doubt it.
- caponumen, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Better yet, an all expense paid, one way trip to Israel.........
