'Banned' Bush Video Surfaces -- Wall Street Got Drunk
huffingtonpost.com — The first moments form the July 18 event find him speaking almost incoherently in admitting, for once, that his friends in big business had screwed up: "There's no question about it. Wall Street got drunk ---that's one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras -- it got drunk and now it's got a hangover.

Rich folk who receive tax-payer money to maintain their lavish lifestyle after screwing up are called "capitalists" or "successful businesspeople" - people who have always earned what they have through good ol' American hard work.
If we permit the wealthy to suffer a lesser existence for their bad decisions, then the terrorists have already won.- geddon, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Dear Digg: Just a quick update to let everyone know that I'm designing software for the medical community. - d686, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1The 'got drunk' bit is vaguely coherent (despite referring to Wall Street as 'he')... It's the next line that is mindmelting: "How long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments?"
WTF? - megamod, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1I bet it's how someone was trying to dumb down the market situation to explain it to him. He liked it so much that he just thought he would share it and take claim of this EXCELLENT analogy...

A shred of evidence, just a shred- maybe even a sliver of a shred; SOMETHING to back your claims would help.
Also, don't bury Naieve, he's right. You're paranoid, seek help.

- taffyhealscrowd, on 07/23/2008, -13/+5Really? I find it really entertaining. Bush is a hilarious guy. I find a lot of times people call him out on stuff when he is clearly joking, and in on the joke. On the flip side, you can't tell me you haven't enjoyed the unintentional stuff he's done that's provided so much fodder for The Daily Show. I guess what I'm saying is, eliot, perhaps you should try laughing more instead of hating.
- TomFrost, on 07/23/2008, -3/+19While I really, really enjoy your outlook, I can't help but remember that it's the same dumbass things that are not only ruining our country from the inside, but also giving us an even worse reputation from the outside. It *would* be hilarious if it weren't so damn serious.
- samuelagesilas, on 07/23/2008, -3/+10Really? Yea OK, I guess thousands of young, full-of-life American soldiers returning from an unwarranted war in body bags is real funny. Maybe all of the Katrina victims that were treated like unwanted stray dogs or the unbridled raping and pillaging of those hard-working Americans that are in the lower income bracket through predatory lending. Yea I guess all those things are real funny huh? I don't know what you consider funny but none of the aforementioned items in my opinion are not funny, they are indeed calamitous.
- bbqsalad, on 07/23/2008, -2/+23I hear Hitler was pretty hilarious too.

Monty Python's "Killer Joke"
Hitler: "My dog has no nose!"
Crowd: "How does he smell?"
Hitler: "Awful."
Coincidently, sumdog referenced Monty Python too. - CaptainShaun, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2@samuelagesilas
People didn't have to sign mortgages that were so disadvantageous. Putting the blame of the housing bubble directly and solely on the person sitting in the White House from 2000-2008 is simply ignorant.
It's unfortunate what happened (and is happening) to soldiers, but there wasn't a draft. They signed up for service knowing full well that the life of a soldier is dangerous and life-threatening. They signed up knowing they may give up their lives. It's unfortunate when it happens, but it's not a surprise.

What he said wasn't very controversial, he just said it in his classic George Bush idoitic manner.
Actually, if you understand his language, it was one of the more accurate statements he's ever made.- bluezinc, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4Yeah, that's true. What he said is pretty much what happened, but put into Bush words. Words he can relate to like, "drunk" and, "hangover". Surprised he didn't use, "snort" and "OD'ed".

You had Howard, a really, really pathetic version of George Bush, as PM. He wasn't even Tony Blair lapdog status, he was like Tony Blair's assistant's cousin's lapdog. The looks of Dick Cheney with the spine of Nancy Pelosi.
He just wholeheartedly agreed with whatever Bush said and almost cried everytime the guys from The Chaser pulled pranks on him during his morning runs. - kingo123, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I like the one from Harold and Kumar.

Please excuse this rather obvious conjecture on my part, but was this an attempt at humor?
Because if it was, all it has succeeded in doing is showing your benighted thought process. - innocentsinner, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4It's a reference to Obama admitting in his book to doing cocaine when he was back in high school.
- villainousT, on 07/23/2008, -4/+27I completely agree. As Scott McClellan tried to point out also, he generally is well intentioned. He has just been put in a position, on his own accord really, where he was able to be run over by his vice president first and foremost as well as others.
It's sad how things had to turn out. Ofcourse plenty of the blame is and should be squarely placed on his shoulders. He just isn't a real leader and it goes to show just how far money and a family name can get you.- JoeJim, on 07/23/2008, -2/+10WOW - A thoughtful, spot-on criticism of our current president, with very little verbiage consigned to "I-wanna-feel-better-right-now" puns. We will someday get to the root problems of the current administration when 90% of the posters here start using just 5% of their brains. Go, vT.
- inkswamp, on 07/23/2008, -3/+4> he generally is well intentioned
I don't agree with that at all. I think Scott McClellan, despite finding his conscience at long last, is still a fan of Bush and is willing to put those kinds of excuses out for him, even while criticizing his administration. By most accounts, Bush knew plenty about the fact-bending and fabrications that went into justifying the invasion of Iraq. He also did his share of implying that Iraq was connected to 9/11. That behavior is not "well intentioned" by any definition of that term that I'm aware of. - PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5I can't surmise whether he is "well intentioned" or not. But I will agree that he has been unwittingly used by an organized agenda to do their bidding.
- PunkRampant, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Even if he fabricated evidence and used propaganda, it can still be well-intentioned if he truly believed Iraq was an immenent threat to the safety of America. I doubt Bush has done these things with a "Let's ***** up the country" sort of mentality.
- mikelieman, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Hitler *really* thought he was doing the right thing, too.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1yeah fabricating a war isn't really a basis for you being "good" or "evil". Alexius Comnemus (Eastern Roman emperor) is considered one of the greatest diplomatic leaders in history and bought rome a couple hundred more years because of his propaganda shenanegans that screwed over the various eastern and western threats to his country.
- ducati748, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1"I can't surmise whether he is "well intentioned" or not. But I will agree that he has been unwittingly used by an organized agenda to do their bidding."
That is what happens when a C student is put into a position of power like the freakin' president of the USA! Not that he was even elected...thats another argument completely.
- inkswamp, on 07/23/2008, -3/+23I have a lot of friends who are a right laugh to get drunk with as well. And you know what? I wouldn't want any of them as my president.

- peregrine, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Search the internet for Bush Drunk, you will see how 'fun' he is to get drunk with.
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3I especially like the story of how, when his daddy was president, he stood up from a dinner in the official white house dining room, went into the hall and pissed into a potted plant.
- thecatcantalk, on 07/23/2008, -3/+4Yeah, if you're down with raping sorority girls, using the peasants for target practice and smashing up Porsches while snorting coke off of your your sister's naked, shaved pussy...then finishing the night with a fistfight with dear old Dad, before drinking oneself to sleep in the pool house.
Those decadent old New England families certainly are a hoot. I can't imagine why they've mostly lost their grip on power, can you?- DuffyDirect, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1yeah ur right those new england scum... that f*ing ed kennedy and his workers disability act and immigration reform.. f* them all!!!

It may have gotten drunk, but you and your party ground up and added a few pills worth of wealthy tax cuts, fierce partisanship, and purposeful devaluation of the dollar. You and your policies dosed this economy, raping the public for the good of corporations who pay off the right people.- geekee, on 07/23/2008, -20/+11fierce partisanship? Look in the mirror idiot.

- phrenzy, on 07/23/2008, -7/+9name ONE ***** time the Reichpublicans didn't rubber stamp anything and everything Bush wanted to do.
- radiofrequency, on 07/23/2008, -3/+2If corporations were paying off the right people, why would they (or "the economy") be in trouble right now?
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Wealthy people benefit when middle class and poor people suffer economically, on so many different levels.
Plus, not every corporation is in trouble right now. Some are doing quite well. For every one that fails, the survivors gain in market share and eventually increased revenue and profits, lower labor costs and the ability to charge higher prices.
We don't even have to mention the Oil industry, do we? The industry that Cheney promised $100 a barrel oil to during his super secret energy policy meeting in the summer of 2001, you know?
You do know that they built the Empire State Building during the great depression, don't you? Had they tried to build it during better economic times, they probably couldn't have afforded to build it. Look around DC, NYC, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, you'll see construction cranes dotting the skyline. - DuffyDirect, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2uh, in better economic times, then, how did they manage to build the chysler building, the woolworth building, the new york city subway system, grand central terminal, yada yada yada???
there are a lot of cranes all over chicago, but i haven't seen any in NY except for upstate where chip factories are being built near albany. - timewarp424, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2So do wealthy people lose when middle class and poor people don't suffer? What a faulty assumption. When middle class people and poor people are employed, they're doing a service for corporations(who I'm assuming for this are mostly managers, ceos, ect) which increases the profits of their company. When profits go up, CEOs can demand more money. If profits start falling, the company can remove unnecessary jobs. And, I'm sorry but a CEO isn't an unnecessary job (someone like at my work who just sits at the dock in a chair waiting for delieveries to come... he doesn't even move the stuff that just comes in, he just signs for the merchandise. That's an unnecessary job that could easily be cut). In any case, in those times, it's worse for the CEO or wealthy person because profits are down all around, and he or she cannot demand a pay increase. There's a little economics for all you Marxists that think class can describe how the market works.
- black27696, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Lets look at the evil walmart chain. You do realize that the stores in the U.S. (the stores themselves, don't go off on a ***** tangent about them getting crap from China because that's not what I'm talking about) employ 100% Americans, right? The giant corporation creates thousands of jobs and the more money they make, the more stores they build, the more jobs are created. This is why I'm (currently) working class and will always be a conservative. Liberal logic that large corporations are horrible is a complete logical fallacy because large corporations are the ***** places that the WORKING CLASS works at! The same people (you) that want to kill big corporations are also pissed because you want more money from your job. This is why GM and Ford are getting raped by the other markets right now. Unions make them pay you more than you deserve for what you do so they can't compete with foreign manufacturers. I know guys that work for GM and for the most part the job isn't difficult. Stand in place, press this button, screw on a few bolts, repeat. 60+ thousand a year? Really? Are you kidding me right now? Paid to not work? That's right, they're hands are tied so much I have a personal contact that gets paid to go to work and hang around the break room playing pool. They can't fire him, so he does that. So if you want all these union contracts to continue maybe some tax breaks for these companies to be able to afford that tall bill wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Why would you suggest a website expressing views should be taken down? Is it because you disagree?- JoeJim, on 07/23/2008, -6/+3Sakumi - don't be a dick. rda1441 is probably just puzzled because YOU go back and forth on Huffington, depending completely on slant of the "news" that is covered. Diggers need to decide on Huffington's validity; they can't pick and choose which stories render the Post invalid.
- Tenlow, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4If biased stories render a news source invalid, where the hell are we supposed to get our news? Because actually unbiased news does not exist.
- rda1441, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Yeah, pretty much. Dont' really care to hear her BS.
- still0lil0wagon, on 07/23/2008, -14/+6how crappy is the sound on that "reporter's" stand-up?
I mean.... really- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4You're good. Really good.
Next time, try to watch it all instead of skipping to the "good parts".- still0lil0wagon, on 07/23/2008, -4/+2I'm talking about the HELLACIOUS background noise whilst that asian chick talks on camera.
I saw the shrub too... yawn ... loser say more blah blah blah....
but to put a camera on a tripod and talk into it like you're SOMEBODY ... and you can't get a ***** mic?
It's unbearable - ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Does it diminish the content in any way? Poor you, your ears must be so sore.

Rest assured you'll probably here about it tomorrow. I bet the big networks are negotiating($$) for a copy of the tape. - geekee, on 07/23/2008, -16/+24Home buyers were drinking from the bottle too, but Democrats aren't blaming them. They're falling over each other trying to bail them out, with Obama in the lead.
- einrobstein, on 07/23/2008, -5/+3And that's a bad thing? (that Dems are trying to stop people from becoming homeless)
- obsolite, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Yes.
I did not buy a house I couldn't afford. Why should I be penalized?
- obsolite, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Yes.
- megahan, on 07/23/2008, -4/+8Amazing how it's just fine to bail out the big companies with the trillion dollar mistakes, but home owners? Oh no! That's SOCIALISM!
- CaptainShaun, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1The logic behind bailing out the banking firms is that there's a tendency that when banks start to fail, people start to panick, take their money out of banks (out of fearing of losing them), essentially shutting down investments and capital markets.
With no investment-capital available or bank savings (or even banks), what do you think would happen with regards to economic growth?
- CaptainShaun, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1The logic behind bailing out the banking firms is that there's a tendency that when banks start to fail, people start to panick, take their money out of banks (out of fearing of losing them), essentially shutting down investments and capital markets.
- IHaveIssues, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2You mean like the current 'stimulus checks'?
- CaptainShaun, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Well, bailing people out of the housing crisis (that is, rebuying the homes at what the market price was before the bubble burst) will just cause the market to step back in time to the bubble, which would lead to just another bubble burst.
Bailing people out is not the answer. - ducati748, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1@geekee: the fact that the mortgage lenders APPROVED, and handed the home buyers the 'alcohol' had nothing to do with it huh? If no one had given them a mortgage in the first place, since as you pointed out they were not qualified, then there wouldn't be this problem now would there?
- einrobstein, on 07/23/2008, -5/+3And that's a bad thing? (that Dems are trying to stop people from becoming homeless)

You think this ***** man is capable of thinking?
Well, there's your first problem....- JoeJim, on 07/23/2008, -3/+7That's probably not an effective way to attack Bush's mistakes, algaeturd. But you spout off if it makes you feel better.
- DavidGX, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Effective way to attack Bush's mistakes? What? And who would that be for, the small number of people who still LIKE the jackass? They aren't exactly rational thinkers either, why waste any large amount of effort for them?

- poprocksandsoda, on 07/23/2008, -18/+12Freedom of speech is a vital right protected in our country, and there's no better example of someone taking advantage of it than the Huffington post. While I don't agree with anything ever coming from that site, it is certainly entertaining to watch someone filled with so much blind ignorance rant in a not even remotely coherent fashion. I would wager it caters to the lowest element of the political spectrum; in many ways it is to politics what 2 Girls 1 Cup is to porn.
- TalahRama, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7I resent the implications you've made toward 2Girls1Cup.
- rayfiend, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Unlike the intellectually enlightened offerings of say, Rush Limbaugh, right?

- rock42, on 07/23/2008, -8/+9I would just like to point out that we, the people of Texas, do not support Bush. The rich SOBs that we have living here as a result of the oil refiners support Bush, not normal people.
- hwy9nightkid, on 07/23/2008, -1/+9then howd he get elected?
- airwalke, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7God told the voters to.
- samuelagesilas, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3ROTFL!
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3I can explain it to you....
in 2004, Bush received 50.73% of the vote.
56.70% of the voting age population actually voted.
Less than 30% of the voting age population chose our president.
That also is confirmed by the fact that only 28% of the population currently believes Bush is going a great job. - PunkRampant, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I think the question was how did Bush got elected governor of Texas, specifically, if Texans supposedly don't support Bush according to rock42.
- DaDrake, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5And you must be Texans elected spokes person ... since you apparently speak for them.
- hwy9nightkid, on 07/23/2008, -1/+9then howd he get elected?
- Pusod, on 07/23/2008, -4/+8Did you see that? Miya Shay just got popped by the CIA towards the end of the video! She is now residing in Guantanamo Bay.

Also, the reason why we want to invade Iran is because they're smoking crack and cooking up crystal meth. The question is whether they want to sell that crystal meth to terrorists or to Israeli children.

What does this ***** ***** know about "sacrifice"?- sathias, on 07/23/2008, -4/+10He's talking about human sacrifices to his demonic neo-con overloards.
- MrTito, on 07/23/2008, -1/+16Actually, he's talking about Laura and in the video clip he says "after eight years of askin' her to sacrifice..." God I hate to seem like I'm defending that man, but the transcript on that page was wrong. I'll probably get dugg down anyhow.
- samuelagesilas, on 07/23/2008, -2/+10No reason to get dugg down. Your right, he was referring to his wife. That's the good thing about be a free-thinking rational person you can embrace facts. You pointing out that correction doesn't take away from the overall gaffe that whole video was so Thanks for pointing out that correction. :)
- JoeVet, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8Hey Bush sacrifices every day. He had to give up golf to show support to those families who lost their sons and daughters in his crusades in Iraq. What more could anyone ask?
- Stanks, on 07/23/2008, -5/+19Leave it to our "elected" leader to relate global economics to binge drinking.

- mediaspree, on 07/23/2008, -5/+8is this dosn't make everyone who voted for bush '00 or bush '04 throw up a little in their mouth then god help the united states of america.
- richardstaboner, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6...then god help the united states of america. most of the republican base would probably still vote the same, and are most likely voting for mccain in '08.
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Keep believing that.
I know Fox News and the McCain campaign have to keep pounding that idea into people's heads, but that doesn't make it true.
Lots of republicans are not going to vote for McCain. Some, because of his position on Immigration (you know, sponsoring a reform bill that he was later pressured by republican party officials to not vote for?) Some because of his position on abortion rights. Some because of his McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform attack against individual political speech. Some because he doesn't agree with some of the utlra-fundamentalist religious freak's positions.
If you stick to right wing news, you don't get to learn about things that do not support the party line. You should broaden your horizons. - richardstaboner, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0I guess I should have said "a lot of the Republican base would UNFORTUNATELY still vote the same". I am by no means a Republican or McCain supporter nor do I have a fascination with right wing news.
I'm speaking of the folks in the south and middle America who just vote Republican so the Dems 'don't take there guns and let gays get married or let the terr'ists win'. I guarantee you a large majority of these rural voters don't even know what McCain-Feingold is.
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Keep believing that.

- flogistan, on 07/23/2008, -5/+17I hate this guy more than the next guy, but videos like this do exactly the opposite of what they're supposed to do. Maybe I'm insane, but stuff like that humanizes the piece of ***** and dulls my hatred for him. I think even Houston has his back in a weird... a guy from our country (texas) is the president sort of way.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5I agree he seems down to earth in it
- 69fezz96, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1In a folksy kinda ***** you sorta way.
- flogistan, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4He seems ***** and half witted more than usual, which makes the neocon pieces of garbage that are responsible for every action his mildly retarded mind has ever taken seem down to earth and american regular guy. He's a retard, chosen by brilliantly wicked zionists to do nothing but nothing while they do whatever they want. He's nixon to kissinger when nixon was sick and dying. He's ronald reagan to the same people that run our government now after reagan's Alzheimer's allowed them to do as they wished. They search for brains like Bush's because they found them by accident before. It's not too hard to find.
- scattass, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3He is not from Texas he was born in Connecticut "then he got here as fast as he could"
- Alcoholicas, on 07/23/2008, -2/+0Oh, I definitely agree with you. I loathed the man until I saw this video and thought to myself, wow, the way he's so cavalier about destroying America really makes him seem down-to-earth. I would vote for him again.
- TheWriteGuy, on 07/23/2008, -9/+9W = Worst
- JK1150, on 07/23/2008, -2/+41what is so controversial about this? he is saying that big business got reckless, does anyone disagree?
- mkeydr, on 07/23/2008, -9/+4And he is joking how he hasn't done anything about it, how he continued to help them even as average Americans suffer. He is a terrible, terrible leader.
- DaDrake, on 07/23/2008, -0/+15mkeydr lets be fair --- the subprime fiasco was caused by congress. Congress encouraged these risky loans (to individuals and small businesses) by making programs that will back loans. While the intentions were good (greater home ownership) it also ignored the fact why these people weren't giving loans (it was risky). With the government backing up the loans (usually 65-75%... especially with the SBA), banks essentially gave out these loans like candies. Worst, when the loans were sold off to larger banks to be compiled into mortgage bonds for investors, the risk of these loans weren't properly assessed.
What happen when hedge funds (who, are often the first to discover fraud or a bubble like with Enron) reported their findings to the SEC and groups like the SBA ..... nothing. Why? Congress ranked the programs' success by the number of loans they were giving out. Even if the banks were handing out loans more risky then the legislation intended for, these groups wouldn't crack down on them since that would lower the overall number of loans being given out.
So lets be real... this problem started long before "wall street" and just shows what happens when you create programs with little safe guards or oversight.- julesbond007, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1umm..no it wasn't congress...bush came up with the 'homeownership' initiative. why? so that his associates at the big banks would get a lot of money from mortgages...simple...it never was in the true interest of the average american...look at the motives....i'm sure bush was taking sips with them too...his whole administration is drunk...
- AdmiralHalsey, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1Youre downplaying this a little. This isnt what happens to programs with few safeguards, because someone would recognize the problem before it was a disaster(its their job). This is what happens with intentional oversight.. Intentional oversight with common interests. Humans have a history of thousands of years of banking, and you think it was just a mistake? We also have a more than solid history of cronyism. lol fool.
- Mardala, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4Deregulation and putting idiots in charge of agencies that are supposed to watch over these people, well reap the rewards. So yeah ... he is partially to blame. Quit sending this guy sympathy cards, seriously. He's intellectually challenged, a bit mental and he's helped put this country to shame.
- RedStateRetard, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4Better watch it before 11:30 eastern. Before the Colbert Bump takes down that site.
- umbriago, on 07/23/2008, -14/+14Correct George. Wall Street got drunk. And you, Cheney and Greenspan were tending bar that night.
- geekee, on 07/23/2008, -5/+5Democrats controlled congress for the last 2 years. They were checking IDs, I guess, or not checking, as the case were.
- greaseddeafguy, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1would you say the same thing about Clinton and Greenspan during the Tech bubble?
- LilBoyLuver, on 07/23/2008, -6/+2You have to admit, though, that he has excellent timing.
- randall82, on 07/23/2008, -6/+12I hate Bush and everything he's done to this country, and truly believe the people pulling his strings are evil, but after watching this I think I like the guy. I'd never vote for him in a million years, I honestly think he's too dumb to realize that his advisors and party have been manipulating him, but I'll be damned if I didn't laugh when I watched that. If only people were smart enough to vote on their interests instead of the "guy they'd like to have a beer with".

He's making fun of the hardships people in US are facing due to his lack of basic understanding of anything relevant. That is not what a public figure like him should do. But he is a soulless prick so he is just showing his true colors.

- julesbond007, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2the big secret is GLOBALIZATION...many corporations support bush because he favors outsourcing. that saves the companies money while their shares climb up...so the CEO says he is doing well and gets to stay longer. If you look at bush's dinner invites they're all big time CEO's.
also it's a way of playing the game of politics. for example, if fannie mae and freddie mac's CEO's did not contribute a lot to his administration, they would be *****!! It's all manipulation
