Bob Barr's Racist Scandal
splcenter.org — In 1998, Barr gave the keynote speech at the national convention of the Council of Conservative Citizens; a hate group that routinely denigrated blacks as "genetically inferior," complained about "Jewish power brokers," called homosexuals "perverted sodomites," and accused immigrants of turning America into a "slimy brown mass of glop."

- StarofTroy, on 06/30/2008, -4/+9I'll save you a long three page read:
Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia, who touched off the brouhaha by delivering a keynote speech at the CCC's national convention in June 1998, said he had "no idea" what the organization stood for.
The only part of the article that mentions Barr. This should be retitled. Esp to include Trent Lott who is given most of the attention.
This is just another case of someone trying to get Dugg up by putting a ron paul type in their tag.- jontalisman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yeah right, I'm sure he had no earthly idea about that organizations activities.

- chicofaraby, on 06/30/2008, -9/+7Racism is alive and well on the American right wing.
- BillORights, on 06/30/2008, -4/+7Racism is alive on the Amerikan left wing as well. See:
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUI ...- reed311, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3That article is not accurate as Dems and Reps no longer have the same beliefs. That article is saying that Martin Luther King would have been a Conservative, which is absolutely laughable. They Dems and Reps have switched places in their stance on Civil Rights issues.

- WiseWeasel, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2I'd be interested in the content of the speech he gave. Still, it's disturbing that he was invited to keynote the forum, and that he accepted to do it. With all the flip-flops this guy has made within the last year, including some critical issues such as support for executive power over individual constitutional rights, I guess this doesn't really change my decision all that much, but I'm always for exposing these CCC people for the racists they are any chance I get. I'll probably still vote for Barr, as that's the most effective protest vote available among the current options, and he's paying good lip service to libertarian causes, but the more I find out about him, the less I expect anything great or insightful from this guy.
- BillORights, on 06/30/2008, -3/+2Then you're not paying attention. A political flip flopper is one who changes his/her stance for political expediency, i.e. pandering for votes. Bob Barr is someone who has changed his stance, while out of office, and actually WORKS to affect those changes! Additionally, does it disturb you that Obama sat in a racist church for 20+ years? Or, McCain's gook or burka remarks? Have you called Obama and McCain out on their little racist problems and exposed them? If Bob went to an affair to address a Black Panthers meeting, would you have a problem with that? Do we shut out racists or do we try to figure out a way that we can all get along? You can't do that by ignoring them and letting the hate fester! In case you are one who believes there are no other racist organizations other that white supremacists here's an article from the very liberal MSNBC for you to look at! http://boards.msn.com/MSNBCboards/thread.aspx?Thre ...
- fadeout, on 06/30/2008, -2/+8The "libertarians" repeatedly getting behind right wing Christian fundamentalist racists is as sad as it is funny.
My own personal favorite Barr/libertarian hypocrisy is his trying to ban pagans from the military. Or maybe it should be his trying to impeach Clinton on moral grounds when there were photos floating around of him licking whipped cream off of strippers chests at a "Leukemia Society fund raiser." Look for those photos to get rolled out by the McCain camp should Barr pose any kind of real threat that doesn't involve shrieking internet libertarians.- vault, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4So Barr licked whipped cream off a stripper's breasts and then sponsored the Defense of Marriage Act lol? Can't say I'm surprised, but I didn't know that...there's a lot of shady history with this guy it seems http://www.nerve.com/dispatches/almond/americastop ...

***** Bob Barr. - ssn697, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7"Trust Barr on the licking thing. He's an expert. He was photographed licking whipped cream off strippers at his inaugural party. His current wife was no doubt upset. But probably not as upset as his first two wives, to whom he failed to pay child support. (To his credit, Barr did pay for his second wife's abortion, though she still suspects he was cheating on her.)"
That thar is some serious Christian values!- BillORights, on 07/01/2008, -4/+1Evidence??????
- ssn697, on 07/01/2008, -1/+5Proof that he was married three times? You can't find that yourself?
Proof that his second wife sued him for non-payment of child support? Again, you can't find court records yourself?
Proof of the licking thing? AGAIN, you can't find Bob Barr admitting to it yourself?
Let me guess: Ron Paul supporter, right? It shows, from your inability to do any of your own research. Fine, let me hold your hand to start you off:
Gail Barr's sworn affidavit (pretty damn funny stuff):

Think you can find the rest on your own? It is REALLY easy. There is this cool thing called GOOGLE. Give it a try! - BillORights, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Let me guess: Obama supporter, right? It shows from your inability to post evidence. You're the one who posted these accusations, not me. You should be the one to have to back it up, not me!

- onetimer, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4Funny story:
While Barr was leading the impeachment movement for clinton for lying under Oath, Barr himself had lied under oath in divorce court less than twenty years ago.
Can you say, Hypocrite?- BillORights, on 07/01/2008, -3/+1Evidence?????
- ssn697, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6This is just too funny to pass up, on Bob "Marriage is Sacred" Barr:
"In September 1985, Gail Barr was helping out as a secretary in her husband's law office. As part of her duties, Barr would have Gail call to make luncheon arrangements with Jeri, the woman he later married. "Obviously, at the time, I did not realize Bob was having a romantic relationship with this woman," says Gail."
So he had his then wife CALL his mistress, to set up a rendezvous! Stay classy Bob!
This isn't nearly as funny, considering his stances:
"In his private life, Barr has been less aggressive in his opposition to abortion. Gail Barr became pregnant with what would have been the couple's third child in March 1983. At the time, she was 38 years old and concerned about possible health complications. Her husband's law practice was slow, which meant money was tight, and yet Barr was often away from home. "I asked Bob what we should do," remembers Gail, "whether I should have an abortion." According to his ex-wife, Barr told Gail that the decision was entirely hers.
"This was an extremely difficult choice," Gail points out, "but Bob didn't want to help in making the decision, even though he was the father. If Bob had said, 'No, don't have an abortion,' I never would have had it done."
In his deposition taken during the couple's divorce proceedings, Bob Barr swore under oath that he opposed that abortion. His definition of opposed is as quibbled as President Clinton's definition of sex. Gail recounts that Barr himself drove her to the clinic to have the abortion performed. Later he returned to the facility to pick her up and paid for the procedure.
"Any statement he made that he expressed his opposition to the abortion is simply not true," says Gail. "
